You would think, at some point during a conversation with FBI agents, that the cotdam National Security Adviser would wonder why it was that said FBI agents were asking him questions about a counterintelligence investigation. And that maybe, just maybe, as the NSA, lying to them about your actions would be… what’s the word? A really fucking terrible idea.

Flynn is a treasonweasel who got a sweetheart deal from Mueller because he’s giving Mueller and other federal prosecutors the goods on Trumpworld.

The judge wanted to know why it was such a good deal and why the prosecutors didn’t charge him with the more severe cases.

The answer? Because he provided the kind of information that would indict everyone in Trump’s inner circle, Trump included? Yeah, that’s the kind of deal Mueller would give. That’s what any prosecutor would give to someone who takes down a crime syndicate by being first to turn state’s evidence.

Seeing the suggestion being made by a few legal eagles that Flynn’s lawyers may have still believed he’d receive jail time and so the whole “I was framed!” bit was a legal Hail Mary in the hopes that a judge known for being critical of gov’t overreach would sympathize. If that’s the case, then it’s understandable why they were poleaxed when he lit into their client today and were quick to agree to more cooperation.

of course it doesnt work that way at all
governmental income (taxes) is…income
how it’s spent depends on the budget that’s passed (or is supposed to)
employment taxes are earmarked

Democratic administration, “The deficit is going to destroy us as a country.”.

Republican administration, “Deficits don’t matter!” (h/t to Darth Cheney and St. Ronnie)

And I have to say that Darth and Ronnie kinda mostly correct. Mostly in that deficits do matter a bit, but not a huge factor of economic destruction like the rightwing makes it out to be when they need a talking point lie to keep the rubes frothy.

I have decided to buy a new laptop. I have selected the one I want. I have the money for it. Costco is selling it for $50 less than Apple. I just can’t bring myself to push the button to order it. I am hopeless.

Actually, the fact that it would be at my local Costco before Xmas is a disincentive. Who wants to go anywhere near a warehouse store right before Xmas?

Republican administration, “Deficits don’t matter!” (h/t to Darth Cheney and St. Ronnie)

And I have to say that Darth and Ronnie kinda mostly correct. Mostly in that deficits do matter a bit, but not a huge factor of economic destruction like the rightwing makes it out to be when they need a talking point lie to keep the rubes frothy. for when the dems are in power

The formula for successful rightwingnutjobbing

The problem with this whole “Sullivan was open to tossing the case” argument can really be summed up in one word: Petreaus. As in Sullivan said aloud in his initial reading of the Riot Act to Flynn that he disagreed with the plea deal in that case as he felt Petreaus deserved a harsher sentence. Generally if a judge thinks that a ruling in a similar case was too lenient, you’re not going to walk out of that courtroom a free man.

Of course, it also correlates with poverty and its attendant lack of health care options. I don’t know why people wouldn’t want everyone to be fed, sheltered, and given health care. It’s not only the kind thing to do, but I’d guess it was cheaper in the long run too.

Putin showed how easy it was to make sure the president of the U.S. wouldn’t care, and Putin is all for the murder of journalists; somehow Trump got journalists to get in a cage to cover his (ongoing) campaign for President. MBS just wanted to join the club, he had all the ingredients; journalist, in Turkey (land of imprisoned journalists), worked for U,S. paper, resided in U.S., and MBS went for it.

But Donald Trump is not the first man to cheat on his wife with an onscreen prostitute this year. Presumably, thousands of men engage in adulterous behavior with pornographers and strippers every day.

Culturally we may not believe it, but each time a married man watches pornography, he commits an act of adultery. This by no means justifies President Trump’s behavior. He slept with another woman while his wife was home caring for their son, and he deserves every second of criticism from his affair with Daniels.

Isn’t this the old Jimmy Carter “I’ve sinned in my heart” bullshit?

Ok, one more excerpt because, these people are so repressed that I’m not sure how they haven’t collapsed in upon themselves:

To be clear, I do not intend to argue that pornography objectifies women, robs them of their dignity, treats them like commodities, and pushes them further into the bottomless pit of depravity. It most certainly does all those things and more, but that is a topic for another time. Rather, I want to focus on the fact that as an industry, pornography has created an entire generation of unwitting adulterers.

Then again, I clicked on the author’s byline to see what else he’s written and, shockingly, he wrote against Ireland’s repeal of Amendment 8, and things like the persecution of Chic-fil-a in New York.

The Trump Foundation’s single largest gift — $264,631 — was allotted toward renovating a fountain outside the Plaza Hotel when Trump owned it.

Trump used foundation money to pay off legal obligations, promote his hotels, and purchase goodies for himself.

mis-spending of any donations received from third parties - we’ll you knew who you were donating to

mis-spending of donations received from trump (and family) - ie donating to his own foundation (which is legal) were inevitably used as tax deductions on his individual tax return

I thought Carter had a line about that, too? In Playboy, of all place.

Hefner, creator of the Playboy empire, died Wednesday at 91. Perhaps the most famous one-liner from the many interviews in his magazine was uttered by Democratic presidential candidate Jimmy Carter, who confessed during the run-up to the 1976 election, “I’ve looked on a lot of women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times.”

Ok, I mixed up the quotes a bit, but same basic idea.

American soldier released after years in Taliban custody after desertion suddenly becomes a treasonous bastard who killed American troops and denounced his country because…the president had a (D) next to his name.

By contrast, an American soldier freely admits he and his buddies engaged in the summary execution of a man whose only “crime” was being accused by a tribal chief of being a Taliban soldier who’d rat him out, becomes portrayed as an American hero who deserves an award…because the president* had an (R) next to his name.

Wasn’t there an election 6 or 7 weeks ago? Did all those contests get decided? No? What’s left? Oh, ‘loser recounts’.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A Republican who lost a closely watched U.S. House race in southern New Mexico says her campaign hasn’t ruled out “further legal action” to contest the results.

State Rep. Yvette Herrell announced on her campaign’s website last week that her team is examining copies of absentee ballots and other documents. She also says her team is looking over “various reports of inconsistencies” but declined to give details.

Democrat Xochitl Torres Small defeated Herrell last month after absentee ballots in the Hispanic Democratic stronghold Dona Ana County put her over the top. Herrell has refused to concede and her campaign has repeated claims of election irregularities without providing any evidence.

A state judge allowed Herrell’s campaign to inspect the absentee ballots.

That’s the whole story, so far. (Sorry, AP.)

Jimmy Swaggart lusted in person, then made a tearful confession (once he was caught) and plea for forgiveness.

Trump? His followers say he’s asked God for forgiveness. Ask them to prove it, and they say, “Can you prove he didn’t?”

*This tells you something interesting about the late 1970s - the degree to which Playboy had become mainstream, an upscale magazine for thinkers, and not just a girlie mag. Similarly Penthouse became mainstream to the extent that Bob Guccione also published ‘Omni’, an upscale science fiction magazine. Hustler had to kind of step into the role of sleazy whacking material, and Larry Flynt was glad to oblige.

At one point, a girl from my tiny hometown appeared in Hustler. There were a couple copies of that issue that circulated surreptitiously around the town. I think the town was strangely, and very quietly proud. True story.

Richard D. Land is the president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary, so you can imagine that he sees evil in a lot of things: Planned Parenthood, gay marriage — but when it comes to the walking obscenity that is Donald Trump, he has nothing but praise.

During an appearance on the Focus Today program last week, Land lauded Trump’s stamina as president, despite reports that he has a “shrinking schedule” and only works just a few hours a day; this is of course in addition to his obsession with watching Fox News and posting rambling rants on Twitter.

The formula for successful rightwingnutjobbing

Every once in a while, the fact that the Wingnuts and the rest of the planet operate in completely different universes stands out in stark relief. This is one of those times. It was abundantly clear that the judge was about to throw the book at Flynn in a major way, even if you take out the comments re: Petraeus. There really is no other reasonable interpretation of his questions. If Judge Sullivan was, in fact, about to consider anything related to gov’t or prosecutorial misconduct, why would he care if Flynn wanted to stick by his plea? If there was a problem with the plea deal and the circumstances that led up to it, the judge would have had an obligation to immediately throw it out. Christ…why would his attorneys not actually argue the point? I can’t. My evens are out. Next shipment expected to arrive in November, 2020.

Flynn did sell his country out; his behavior toward Russia was treasonous; but I object to applying the word “treason” to his illegal, immoral actions on behalf of Turkey. Turkey is still an ally of ours and treason should be reserved for assistance to enemies, such as Russia.

It may not have been treason, but he would have sent Fethullah Gulen back to a certain prison term and likely death. And I’m no fan of Gulen; he’s got a cult of personality going and his followers have figured out that American states are stupidly throwing money at charter schools. But he shouldn’t be shipped off willy-nilly.
