The governor called us back into special session last night “to attempt to fix the issue,” not to be secretive or retaliate against anyone, Speaker Osborne says. This isn’t being done in the dark, he says. (Technically, it’s dark outside.) ^JC

Sure seems like every Republican in a Republican-controlled state wants a dictatorship. And if a Democrat is elected governor, the Republican legislature strips power from them before they take office, as opposed to the Illinois approach where the Democratic legislature runs roughshod over the governor, regardless of the governor’s political party. :-)

I like how all these Trump apologists are aghast that FBI agents had negative opinions about Trump but love love to share third hand stories about how “HRC staff hates her.” What the hell is anyone in the FBI to make of a guy like Trump? Stzrok is a human being. He had a reaction to Trump because Trump’s a douche. He also wasn’t too kind in his words on Clinton, Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren if I recall either so it’s not like he was this zealous Clintonite and if you know anything about investigations, investigators definitely aren’t always nice in how they view the people they’re investigating and given what Sztrok was investigating with Trump, yeah he was angry because why the hell not.

I sincerely hope everyone is okay. Property can be replaced but lives cannot. Having gone through two tornadoes just this year, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

Tornadoes, the bane of the Midwest and the Plains. Capricious fuckers that appear with little warning, wreak incredible havoc, and disappear without a trace. I’ve had a few close calls, but the closest one to me was about 10 miles away, a few years ago.

The closest tornada to me as a weak EF-0 a few blocks away. Messed up some siding on a house.
The scariest one was the EF-4/5 that hit La Plata. That storm flew over us and then dropped that tornado after it crossed the Potomac. Never say blacker clouds in my life.

Yeah. My dad sent me video of another one from just a couple of years back (that, ironically, also came pretty close to my mom - this time, at her part-time job in town). It was just this big angry black cloud that swept behind the tree line and you could see stuff flying around and out of it.

Many, many years back, I’d just started my summer break from college. I’d volunteered to go pick up my brother from school one afternoon. I’d gotten there early, rolled down the window, and was listening to a tape and watching clouds.

“Wow, those clouds up there are really interesting. That one just overheard — it looks like it’s going around in circles, over and over and over and FUCK.”

I ran inside the school to get my brother, right around the time they released classes early. We drove home watching the funnel swing around in the distance.

I mentioned that my mom watched a tornado destroy her town. That was in the 1960’s. Round about 1996-1997, I was in middle school when we got an emergency page to the office. My mom and dad were waiting with their SUV fully loaded. Worried, we piled in, and learned that my parents’ hometown had been struck by another tornado and we were headed south to take care of our two elderly grandmothers. We arrived to the sound of tornado sirens and the police cruising the streets, announcing via loudspeaker that another twister had been spotted and to stay in shelter until further notice. I never did see the second tornado, though I know from after the fact that it was just a few miles away. We sheltered in my dad’s mom’s basement until the all clear was sounded, then went out to pick up the devastation.

In May we were struck by an EF-2 tornado which tore the roof off our house and damaged most of the buildings in town (and destroyed a couple homes and farm buildings).

We fled to Yukon while our roof was being repaired, and we were hit by another EF-2 when we were in Saskatchewan, which tore out the electric wiring from our house when part of our elm tree came down on the electrical wiring. (It ripped one side of the knob-and-tube wiring out of our house.)

That was why we were without electricity all summer after we got home. (Not enough electricians here, too much damage.)

The commission of a military officer is actually a Presidential commission, confirmed by the Senate.

As such, the only way to strip Lt. Gen. Flynn (Ret.) of his rank is for President Trump to do it. That ain’t happening. If he was still on active duty he could be courts-martialed if he violated the UCMJ.

The last time a flag officer was considered for that was Gen. Patreus. President Obama did not strip him of his commission, because he admitted his guilt and apologised for his actions.

Flynn will never suffer any military rank loss or be court martialed simply because none of his crimes are alleged to have occurred while he was in the Army. He’s a fucking criminal, compromised foreign agent and hypocritical disgrace but it’s a dangerous thing to start advocating that veterans be stripped of the benefits they earned in service for stuff they do afterwards as civilians.

His official rank is Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (Retired). Retired is held up to the standards of civilian law. His benefits from the military remain unless the President revokes his commission.
