From downstairs.

There are two things that everybody should be yelling at R’s on Social Media right now:

“Trump promised Mexico should pay for the wall! Why should we?

And this:

re: #145 Targetpractice

If the Dems are the ones “playing politics,” then why are some Republicans moaning that Nancy refuses to allow a single cent to go to the wall because she’s “shoring up support”? Or “denying Trump a win”? No offense, but it seems pretty political when you’re spending less time arguing the need for your wall and instead arguing about your opposition’s motives.

Why are the Republicans moaning when, as of today, Paul Ryan is the fucking Speaker of the House of Representatives? Pelosi is a representative from a district in California.

Tokyo Bon 東京盆踊り2020 (Makudonarudo) Namewee 黃明志 ft.Cool Japan TV @亞洲通吃2018專輯 All Eat Asia

Lyrics are in the comments. For example: スターバックス Sutabakkusu (Starbucks)

They do the same thing in China, transliterate foreign words into Mandarin. It takes a while to learn how to reverse the process to arrive at the original word or name. For example: 星巴克 xing ba ke (Starbucks) Though in this case, the Chinese name replaces “star” with its Mandarin equivalent “xing” and uses “ba ke” to phonetically replace “buck.”

My apologies for my foolish statements a couple days ago expressing concern that Trump would start behaving with decorum. Others here chastised me for suggesting that he would resist reverting to form. They are so right — Trump’s automatic response to anyone who dares criticize him is to spew lies and hatred.

Hopefully, our liberation will begin on Thursday. I am so ready for President Pelosi.

He’s getting more unhinged by the minute. Come Thursday he’s going to go into full meltdown mode.

I would not be surprised to see the Republicans using delay after delay to stall Nancy from being elected Speaker. Watch the Republicans demand that Mark Harris be seated and the Democrats say No. The Republicans will use every dirty trick in the book to stall the House from organizing.

We can’t let them get away with it.

OTOH the Repugs might just use the Democrats as cover for getting rid of the Orange Menace. Pretty sure a fair number of the corporate Republicans would like to dump Trump, but don’t want to risk either his ire or the ire of his fans in 2020. Now, at least they can pin the blame (publicly) on Pelosi and the House Democrats, while (privately) saying to themselves “thank our lucky stars.”

Well, we’ve been saying it for years, and it keeps not happening. Let’s face it. Drumpf is going to keep doing what he has been doing since he started his run for the Presidency until someone or something makes him stop. *Makes. Him. Stop.*

Legally, are there maneuvers that they can employ to postpone the election of the new Speaker? What tricks are you suggesting they can use to stop the House from organizing? And for how long can they actually prevent this?

The FDA’s shutdown directly affects the bottom line of food manufacturers; there are companies out there that will not be able to further advance their product lines because my office is furloughed. Quite a few of those companies have very high powered K street law firms behind them. Of course, my perspective is very specialized and means little to most people, but my tiny slice of the shutdown isn’t unique in pissing off corporate America. I am curious how big money can push a change is the orange shit-goblin’s perspective, or if that outside push will have no effect?

The theory as I saw it the other day was that the Congressional GOP may decide to force a Nixon-style situation, with enough House Republicans voting along with the Democratic colleagues to pass articles of impeachment, creating a situation where it seems very likely that the Senate will vote to remove him from office. Then the party leadership will sit him down and tell him that he needs to resign “for the good of the party.”

OK but the fatal flaw in that scenario is that Trump ain’t Nikon. Trump doesn’t give a shit about what the party leadership wants because he owns the fucking GOP base, and they know it.

True, but the base aren’t the ones paying the bills, the business wing of the party is. And they’ve every reason to want his orange ass gone post haste. Pence would pretty much put up the same judicial appointments as Trump would, perhaps better ones as he’d be reading off the Heritage checklist rather than the guys that Donny heard about off Faux. And his legislative agenda is DOA, even if he could move most of the bills past a Dem filibuster, Pelosi is going to stomp them flat in the House. The fights over those would play out much the same whether it was Donny or Pence in the White House.

The real window to get anything done has come and gone. Mitch now has no incentive to keep Donny in office and every incentive to consider a removal vote if it can be done under the cover of a very negative Mueller report.

That’s probably the only plausible scenario but the problem I see is that even the business wing is wedded to a medium term game plan where small population Red states control the Senate, gerrymandering keeps the House in play and Trump’s judicial nominees tip the balance in the courts. It’s gonna take a long motherfucking lever to pry his ass out of the Oval Office.

Problem is that the political reality has to give way to the economic reality, which is that Cheeto Benito is murder to their bottom line. Jamming the country into another recession in a presidential election year where the Senate map favors the DNC and the guy at the top of the ticket makes Nixon look like a piker? The midterms just proved that a big enough turnout can and will overcome their gerrymander firewall, so they can’t even really rely upon that going into 2020.

In my experience most GOP donors don’t actually have that good a sense of their own economic self interest. Like most people they have an ideology, and the assumptions underpinning that ideology all too often do not comport themselves with reality, and when that happens these people tend to towards reevaluating their concept of reality instead of reexamining the assumptions behind the original hypothesis.

All that to say I don’t expect the Koch’s, Mercer’s, etc to change their tune any time soon.

I agree that if it was up to them they would, but it’s Dr Frankenstein vs. Frankenstein’s monster, and they know it. Also, key, is the fact that their only leverage is to stop donating now, after they’ve boosted invested Trump’s 2020 campaign above the $100 million mark. Really, in the end it all depends on what Mueller says when his final report drops. Since the only “good” scenario that Donny might hope for at this point is an Iran-Contra-style “Everybody around the man is a fucking liar, but there’s no evidence he knew about any of it,” the most he can hope for is to be labeled as an “unindicted co-conspirator” and go down from there.

The Koch’s are 100% pragmatic and realistic. Their main interests are lowered taxes, and reduced regulation. They lie about global warming because some of their untapped reserves are under permafrost and it benefits them for it to melt (and none of their real estate interests are coastal); they don’t care at all about social issues, they just tolerate the religious crap because it provides voters.

The Mercers… I think they actually buy into the religious bullshit. They actually care about social issues, in addition to their financial interests.

It seems there is evidence from human genomics that the Aryans were not the original settlers of the Indian subcontinent, but came about a thousand years after another group originating from what is now Iran, and these two groups came into the subcontinent some 60,000 years after the original settlers who came out of Africa.

The Chinese have a similar bias toward belief that they (the Han) could not possibly be descended from people from Africa, and that the Han are the bestest ethnic group in East Asia, despite being invaded and occupied at different times by the Mongols, the Manchu, the Japanese and others. The “official” explanation here is that the Homo erectus - Homo sapiens line that leads to the Han was a separate, parallel evolution from everywhere else in the world, a proposal that flies in the face of all common sense and more importantly DNA evidence. Dr Alice Roberts ran into this peculiar Chinese bias in the course of her documentary about human evolution and migration.

In a similar vein, many Native American nations are not very keen on the scientific evidence that strongly suggests their distant ancestors were Asians who migrated from what is now Siberia, and not peoples who were somehow created or born within the Americas.

It’s not just white people who want to believe they are somehow special.

Sarah Kendzior has also noted this habit of Trump and likens it to the disinformation campaigns of autocracies, which rewrite history or delete entire segments of history to suit their hold on power. It’s hard to say if Trump does his disinformation deliberately — which presupposes some kind of strategy — or whether it’s just a useful habit he developed in his youth. It’s a tendency even his lawyers and associates noted long before he started his campaign. Trump says whatever suits the occasion, whether it be true or not. He is a man completely divorced from objective reality.

Clearly, that’s a power others, like Bannon, can use to their advantage. Trump has a following, and his followers believe anything that comes out of mouth or his Twitter account. If he said the Earth is flat and the Sun a big glowing disk of fire, his disciples would accept it as objective truth. So, when he says everyone coming from Central America is a hardened criminal, even little kids, it’s objectively real to his disciples. Show them photos of bedraggled, starving kids with their moms, and they will see invaders coming to take their homes and jobs away.

Conceivably, Putin saw this power of Trump to alter reality and has decided to use it to his advantage, too.

Japanglish lesson

Video

Lyrics are in the comments. For example: スターバックス Sutabakkusu (Starbucks)

They do the same thing in China, transliterate foreign words into Mandarin. It takes a while to learn how to reverse the process to arrive at the original word or name. For example: 星巴克 xing ba ke (Starbucks) Though in this case, the Chinese name replaces “star” with its Mandarin equivalent “xing” and uses “ba ke” to phonetically replace “buck.”

That was fun. About twenty years ago there was a government memo demanding that agencies cut back on the use of English loan words, but the memo itself was chock full of English loan words. Common English names usually end up getting shortened. So Sutabakkusu becomes Su-ta-ba, Makudonarudo becomes Makudo, etc.

There are so many Chinese tourists in Japan now that it makes me wonder if English will sometime become a thing of the past.

I suspect SF writers will turn out to be prescient, and the future common language will be amalgamation of English, Spanish and Chinese, with other useful words throw in as needed. At this point in history, though, English has primacy, courtesy of the British Empire and American dominance since WWII. Chinese (Mandarin), Spanish and Arabic have many, many speakers each, but not worldwide influence - yet.

Yep. I think also that alphabet-based languages will have some advantage. (This neither here nor there, but some of my Chinese students have raised eyebrows when I explain that coinages for things like “democracy” and “human rights” came into Chinese from Japan during the Meiji period—they like to think the flow is one way.)

Alphabetic languages have the advantage of being flexible and more easily learned, especially if they use the Roman alphabet. OTOH Chinese can convey a host of meanings more compactly, once you learn several thousand characters. I’m lucky if I recognize a few hundred.

good morning sunday lizards

in our house, today is “i love my wife sunday”

before she woke up, an effortless 13 was scheduled
the way i do it, came out closer to a tad more than 15

if you’ve been following my sunday exploits, i’ve been writing a bit about things a log book can tell you, and things to ignore

im in a wind down / taper before the big Dopey, and coincidentally am on a streak of consecutive days run
today i realized a sort of phenomenon related to these two things coinciding

- as the runs are getting shorter and easier, extending the consecutive streak becomes easier as well
- of course it does
- consider the opposite - building miles. adding 10% a week and trying to not take even one day off…

this kind of relationship is obvious once you see it
sometimes a log will point a thing out

today was run #68

Fair enough - disinformation is lying; it’s willful and deliberate, not misinformation, which is believing in or espousing erroneous info.

Disinformation can lead to a misinformed public, and that misinformation can end up spreading like wildfire (see modern flat earthers, conspiracy theorists, etc.)

Morning!

It is pretty easy to find out who will be on the political shows.

Go to this link…find the show listing on the network click on the “box” the show is in and they list the show, the guests and the panel. You can set your provider for your zip at the top.

I use this site to search for auto racing coverage and other sports. Since sportscar type racing is a niche sport it is sometimes difficult to find the shows. This site helps a lot with that.

Wanting power by any means is the tool of the desperate. Politically, when you don’t really have the power given to you by a democratic process, you have to find ways to take it.

Wanting power by any means is the tool of the desperate. Politically, when you don’t really have the power given to you by a democratic process, you have to find ways to take it.

It’s been said that when a conservative has to choose between power and democracy, they will choose power.

If Republicans face a choice between democracy and power, well, guess what? (Washington Post, opinion piece by Tom Toles, more at the link):

The thought experiment for today is how much Republicans actually care about representative democracy. But don’t spend a whole lot of time thinking it over, because it’s more than a thought experiment, and the results are already in.

It has been reported many times that overall, voters prefer the basic platform of the Democratic Party. They don’t like increasing wealth disparity, they want access to health-care coverage, they believe climate change is real, they believe in a moderate and humane immigration policy, they support reproductive rights for women, and of course, they support the federal safety net.

And yet, the government is controlled by the party that opposes all these preferences. Huh. How does that happen, exactly? It doesn’t happen by accident; that’s for sure. Yes, history has vicissitudes and anomalous outcomes, and no electoral system will produce results in perfect harmony with voter wishes all the time. But we are in a period where the divergence is so longstanding and becoming so stark that our democracy is being stretched to the breaking point.

It seems there is evidence from human genomics that the Aryans were not the original settlers of the Indian subcontinent, but came about a thousand years after another group originating from what is now Iran, and these two groups came into the subcontinent some 60,000 years after the original settlers who came out of Africa.

bbc.com

Right wing Hindus are not happy about these conclusions.

I’ve been occasionally reading about Indian history and culture since the 1970’s, and I’ve never heard it suggested that the Aryans were the original settlers.

The fanatic “fundamentalist” segment is just getting noisier — which is going on everywhere these days. While not discounting its danger, I consider it an act of desperation by groups that are steadily losing influence, as temples lose business (just as churches are here).

Thankfully the Republican in charge of that is Richard Burr who for the most part acts like a real US Senator. You can tell by the fact they are still investigating the Trump mess and doing it in mostly legit ways.

If you watch Burr, you can tell he wasn’t real impressed with people like Jason Chaffetz, Trey Gowdy and the Free-to-be-dumb Caucus.

Graham would be the Senate Judiciary Committee and they are in charge of overseeing the Department of Justice. That is why they had the big deal with Kavanaugh. They also can look into the FBI as an office, not necessarily what it investigates.

So in a way, Graham can’t dig into Hillary. He will be worried about all the shit coming at Trump and the role of people like the Attorney General and his underlings.

Oh totally but I’m talking about in terms of governance. Brown has accomplished a lot in his tenure as California’s governor but you are right to point that out too. I myself of the likely contenders am undecided between Beto and Harris. I like Booker too.

I also like Kamala Harris.

On the GOP side, Jeff Flake is making noise about running a primary challenge to Donald Trump. Gee Senator, you might have established yourself as the so-called “voice of reason” in the Senate. How’d that work out?

L’il Belle Lindsay has repeatedly said he will continue to investigate Hillary’s e-mails, Benghazi, Uranium One and the Clinton Foundation.

And I can’t wait for Dianne to just pimp smack him down.

True: however - whatever bullshit “investigations” Graham’s (?)Subcommittee might gin up to try to deflect attention from Trump and his criminal Administration, since the GOP has the Majority in the Senate, they can basically do whatever they want (as long as Mitch McConnell signs off on it). A better idea (IMO) would be for Senate Democrats to boycott ol’ Lindsay’s sideshow altogether, and make it quite clear that it’s mere partisan hackery. But politely, of course: it’s the Senate….

Yeah he showed his true colors on Kavanaugh and ACA. If anyone’s going to get away with primarying Trump, it would probably be a governor like Kasich but I don’t see anyone primarying Trump. Trump is more liked by Republican voters than disliked. The person who primaries Trump has to realize that it will be career suicide if they primary Trump but it will also take out Trump more easily than had they stayed put. Is Kasich that person? I honestly doubt it given OA and BD’s stories about how arrogant and how much he wants POTUS but that’s what it would take.

I challenge Mueller to put up or shut up. You have no evidence of the President being involved in a conspiracy with anyone including Russia to hack. And you also have no evidence of collusion. It’s been 2 years so submit a report to DOJ and we will answer it.

The biggest problem I see with parliamentary systems is when a party does not get an absolute majority. They then have to dig up coalition partners from minor parties to form a government.

That leaves the majority party beholden to every last demand of the minority partner if they want to remain in government (see: UK with the Conservative Party beholden to the DUP, Israel with Likud beholden to a bunch of minor religious parties, &c)

In effect, the majority party in the coalition then is beholden to the minority party’s voters, not their own voters.

re: #200 Anymouse 🌹

The biggest problem I see with parliamentary systems is when a party does not get an absolute majority. They then have to dig up coalition partners from minor parties to form a government.

That leaves the majority party beholden to every last demand of the minority partner if they want to remain in government (see: UK with the Conservative Party beholden to the DUP, Israel with Likud beholden to a bunch of minor religious parties, &c)

In effect, the majority party in the coalition then is beholden to the minority party’s voters, not their own voters.

That’s a great point.

The argument, from the state and from the agency, is that the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act should not force a Protestant group to work with Jewish people if it violates a tenet of their faith.”

State sanctioned anti-Semitism.

Antisemitism, pro-racism, anti-Catholicism, anti-Islam, anti-atheism.

Those are the sorts of laws I fear here as an atheist. Libertarians and conservatives will argue “well muh property rights; if you don’t like that business you can go to another one.”

The usual argument I give to that is we have one store in my town. If they discriminate against atheists, then there is one store sixteen miles away. If that store (whose owner also knows me) discriminates against atheists, the next stores are sixty miles away.

The same would apply to any disfavoured group.

Irritating — irritating — irritating: someone on MSNBC repeated that Democrats were willing to provide 25 billion for the wall earlier in the year and then the rest of the panel failed to point out (as had been done previously in the day) that was contingent on making DACA permanent and providing other improvements to the immigration process. So this dishonest snippet was allowed to continue uncorrected.

That article on religious discrimination in adoptions leads to The Intercept. The final paragraph notes this isn’t just about Jews.

Even in the Miracle Hill’s online application for interested foster parents it’s clear they intend for children to be raised in a Christian home.

In addition to basic information, the application asks for “denominational affiliation,” a pastor’s name, phone number, and “a brief, personal testimony of your faith/salvation,” and that of a spouse, if applicable. If you and your partner are the same sex, Miracle Hill will not allow you to adopt children in their network, according to lawyers, foster parents and employees at agencies who have worked closely with Miracle Hill.

theintercept.com

They note the leaders of the adoption agency are tied to the leaders of South Carolina’s government, which is why the government is getting involved on their behalf.

The appeal by the state and Miracle Hill is to the Department of Health and Human Services, which has been stuffed with Evangelical Christians.

I think that Trump definitely likes general. For Mattis, he probably heard that his nickname was “Mad Dog” and he thought that he had to have the guy even though he knew next to nothing about Mattis’s values. Mattis certainly is hawkish but more complicated than that and Kelly, I assume he read that the General’s son was KIA and that Kelly could and turned out did get a lot of the less savory parts of his agenda and personality ignored because of that. Trump I’ve concluded is all about image. Remember when he almost didn’t pick Bolton because he hated Bolton’s mustache?

If you’re looking for a fantastic essay to read today, here it is:

A cut cable line was worth 10 points, whether we tried to fix it or not. We could try to splice it if we found the cut. Or we could maybe run a temp line. But you can’t run one across a neighbor’s lawn or across a sidewalk or street. That’s what happened with the guy who was adding a swimming pool. The diggers had cut his line. I knew before I walked in. But he still wanted me to come stare at the blank cable box while we talked. I did because the Fox News cult loves to call in complaints about their rude techs.

The tap, where the cable line connects, was in a neighboring yard. There was a dog door on the back patio of that yard. I like dogs, but I’m not an idiot. I told him it would be a week, 7 to 10 days to get a new line. He said through his teeth he needed an exact day. I gave him my supervisor’s number. This whole time, his wife was in the kitchen wiping a clean counter.

I was filling out the work orders and emailing my supervisor to give him a heads-up on a possible call from a member of every cable tech’s favorite rage cult, when his wife knocked on my van window. She stepped back and called me “ma’am.” Which was nice. Her husband with the tucked-in polo shirt had asked my name and I told him Lauren. He heard Lawrence because it fit what he saw and asked if he could call me Larry. Guys like that use your name as a weapon. “Larry, explain to me why I had to sit around here from 1 to 3 waiting on you and you show up at 3:17. Does that seem like good customer service to you, Larry? And now you’re telling 7 to 10 days? Larry, I’m getting really tired of hearing this shit.” Guys like that, it was safer to just let them think I was a man.

She said she was sorry about him. I said, “It’s fine.” I said there really wasn’t anything I could do. She blinked back the flood of tears she’d been holding since God knows when. She said, “It’s just, when he has Fox, he has Obama to hate. If he doesn’t have that …” She kept looking over her shoulder. She was terrified of him. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I just need him to have Fox.” I got out of my van.

The neighbor with the possible attack dogs wasn’t home. The next-door neighbor wasn’t either. But I looked up his account. I got lucky. He didn’t have TV service. I pulled up his modem on my laptop, perfect signal. There was an attenuator where the cable connected to his house-wiring to tamp down the signal — too much is also a problem. I got enough running a line from the neighbor’s house to theirs so the asshole would be able to get his rage fix from Hannity. I remember leaving a note on the neighbor’s door, some ambiguous lie about their internet service being urgent. I figured the neighbor might be more understanding about internet service than Fox. I sure as fuck was.

I’m sure Alep and our other British isles Lizards would agree but British wingnuts are just as obnoxious as ours. They both share a nostalgia for a past that was never theirs and one that never existed.

And apparently, also have the same propensity to fabricate “studies” to reinforce their inane opinions: viz: (from the Mirror linked piece):

The research showed that while “the rest of the world saw Britain standing 10 feet tall - when actually we stood six feet tall - Britons saw us standing five feet tall, not the six, and certainly not the 10”, he said.

Of course, they saw “Britain standing 10 feet tall” - when you’re ROFL, everything looks taller….

And who, exactly, is going to pay for all these new far-flung bases? And how? And why? As usual for the Brexiteers, Mr. Williamson seems rather long on overblown Imperial rhetoric, and fairly short on practical answers.
It’s what I’ve always thought about most Brexit-flogging: there has always been a nostalgia-for-Empire aura about it: as if, once “free” from their European “shackles”, the UK is going to boldly emerge into the glorious future. Of 1910.

And Chuck Todd will now almost certainly have to show he’s “impartial” by having another show full of right wing deniers and liars. You know they’re screaming about it already.

i’ve been railing on this for quite a while. (I posted that poorly written polemic “Do not legitimize crackpots” on the right side some time ago).

I think the approach of confront, explain, persuade has been terribly damaging to ‘science’.
Thirty or more years have demonstrated that the idea that skeptics should face and cultivate in these people an understanding and love for the scientific outlook has not worked.

It legitimizes their crackpot ideas. And worse, it give every new one instant credibility as their lunacy is elevated to be equal with actual provable science right out of the gate.

When we give them legitimacy by explaining, debunking, etc., they then just cloak themselves in the trappings of science and reason we just gave them and then they tear the whole nature of science down.

With respect to global warming, “the overwhelming number of ….” is not science. It is a bad ‘argument’. It doesn’t ‘prove’ anything. It’s a persuader. And, again, it then bestows on the 3% the Galileo myth legitimacy. (what if you’re all wrong and I’m right…could happen.)

Yes, governments and private businesses lobby and control and spin. It doesn’t change the science. Yes I know the dangers of ignoring or ‘waiting’ w/r/t climate change. Still, the tool for ‘winning’, if that’s the word, is not “4 out of 5 dentists surveyed agree”.

It’s the science.

Meanwhile, it seems the press shop itself has been nearly abandoned. This is not much of surprise — Trump has long considered himself to be his best spokesperson, and he has proven incapable of sticking to any coherent media strategy. And part of the problem, an anonymous source told Yahoo News, is that no one credible wants to work for the White House press office.

“No professional in good standing will even interview for a job,” the source said. “It’s a zombie comms shop. Night of the living dead.”

How did he get away with that fake attack on Mueller? I’m hoping the FBI is investigating that.

This comment in that tweet thread is probably a good bet.

Graham’s trying to set up a rhetorical path to Trump’s signing the clean CR when it hits his desk next week.

I’ll say it again. Bernie and Trump are both going to miss Clinton big time in 2020.

Hey Happy Warrior…the Browns must be moving up in the world of football.

Jim Nantz and Tony Romo are doing the Browns vs. Ravens game.

Please beat the Ravens today. God if you guys could knock them out. That would be great. All wishing and hoping aside, I really think you’re on your way up. The key though I think will be finding a HC- I don’t know if Williams is your longterm HC and you’re going to need to continue to draft well. Drafting in the teens is a bit more tougher than in the single digits but if I were a Browns fan, I’d be excited.

No matter what happens today, I’m already a happy Browns fan. They already have a decent and very young team to build on.

One note about the Ring Video Doorbell: The apps from Apple’s App Store work beautifully. I have both loaded to their respective platforms and I have so far very few problems. I tried to get the amazon version and stopped when I read the reviews. One would figure that paying for an app it would be a better one. According to the reviews it is not. So I did not download it. This means that my kindle fire tablet which I purchased to be used for this doorbell is not. Even when I went to the ring website it transferred me back to amazon’s App Store.

Oh yeah there’s room for optimism no matter what happens today in Baltimore.

So worked the overnight shift at the hotel, filling in. Went to church. Came home and napped a bit. Decided that I really ought to use up the 1 kg pork roast my ex gave me. So I sauted it in the instant pot, added some herbs, some cream of mushroom soup for liquid, roughly chopped carrot and potato and gave the stew button a poke. In less than an hour I’ll have dinner for the next couple of days. My pot was a lizard gift last year and I remain profoundly grateful.

No clue. Probably back burnered. Trump is the brass ring.

Could you not sideload the standard Android Ring app (which appears to be free)?

laptopmag.com

Edit: I didn’t notice that link was really old and that Handango doesn’t run an app store of its own anymore; see below for a way to get Google Play Store apps on Kindle Fire devices that’s much more recent:
