I fell asleep (not unexpected, I was dog-tired at work today, stressing out about a meeting) and woke up when someone rang my cell at 11 minutes after the hour. I hopped on Twitter to find out his speech was over and the talking heads were waiting for the Dems. Pelosi and Schumer were sane, level-headed and straightforward. My youngest sister was there (her first husband was stationed in Bremen at the time and they went to Berlin for the big event).
When they came home for a stateside assignment, she brought a bunch of chunks of the Wall.
My brother was in the Army at the time and married to an East German girl. Her family had been allowed to leave East Germany because they were giant pains to the government, but they had to leave everyone and everything behind. It was wonderful to see the wall come down and know that she was finally going to be able to see all of her extended family. Oh, and my brother went to the wall and got some chunks to bring home as well!

Right, and they’re being fought….the government is trying to seize the land and those seizures are ending up in court and challenged. That’s where we are today. If he declares a national emergency he can confiscate the land for nothing, without legal challenge. What is happening now is unacceptable but it can be fought through the courts. If he declares a national emergency (or the State of Texas does) they can just seize it, kick the ranchers off, and move forward.
