That would be hilarious if she got more viewers. Trump would blow a gasket when she teased him about it.

The only reason I’m watching this is because it’s unusual for Trump and he’s been threatening to do some evil shit.

I am going to watch because, while I will probably want to scream, it’s kinda important just for the sheer lunacy.

In other news, saw the specialist about my broken thumb, surgery scheduled for monday so I can get some pins put in it, that way I have full range of motion and grip.

From downstairs:

Here’s something to take your minds off the Trump thing. Jordan Reeves is a 13-year-old who has only one hand. Her left arm ends just below the elbow. While still in elementary school, she started designing prostheses for her left arm that do a variety of actions. Some are quite clever.

Anyway, she has a book coming out. And she’s 13.

There was no national address after Las Vegas. Or any other mass shooting. Nothing after the goddamned Nazis murdered Heather Heyer. Rather, he equated goddamned Nazis to the people protesting them.

Trump is a motherfucking white nationalist and his policies reek of white nationalism.

I’m assuming this is the usual assortment of lies and exaggerations to claim he has to act when he had 2 years to act for this self-declared “emergency” while the GOP controlled Congress, and did nothing.

Good.

Trump’s shit is dying out. He’s got nothing. Tonight was proof.

It is like Chris Hayes and Nicole were saying prior to Rachel. He followed the recommendation of Stoner and None-the-burger to use the wall as a way to remember to talk about immigration. It caught on with the Fox followers and the rest of the American flotsam.

He then used it and used it to get to be president, and he was too chicken shit to ever pivot away from it once elected.

From that point on this whole thing is a sham even he doesn’t believe in.

He’s got nothing!

Keep the case under your bed…unless you too want to buy into the fear.

Trump wants that…because he has nothing.

They’re preparing the terms of their surrender. They’re hoping against hope that Nancy and Chuck are gonna sit down now, at their lowest point, and save their asses by exchanging funding for DACA restoration. The very last thing they want is what’s becoming inevitable: Unconditional surrender.

Why did Trump demand the time for the speech in the first place? Or is this not what he was planning on saying? Certainly our panic over a potential declaration of national emergency was unwarranted. Or maybe that was his original intent but he was persuaded not to unleash a Constitutional crisis.

Most likely answer? Jared and/or Miller convinced him that giving a prime-time speech would get people on his side because they’d see how much he “cared” about this crisis and it would help put pressure on Democrats to come to the table. That if he brought the sort of energy and arguments he used at his rallies, it would shift the balance amongst voters.

Several administration officials/nepotists were making that argument. Trump would bring voters who were undecided or opposed to see his point of view.

What we saw was a monumental failure.

That, coupled with S.1 going down in defeat in the Senate today means the GOP is caving, and Mitch McConnell is losing control of his caucus.

Yes, because the ask was for the campaign fund, though they tried to tricked the Red Hats into thinking its for the wall.

I’ll never forget watching people dancing on top of the Wall; the greatest party in history.

I was watching with my six-year-old stepdaughter and she asked me what it meant. I told her it meant she wouldn’t have to worry about atomic bombs like I did when I was her age. Then of course I had to try to explain all that. But she seemed comforted and content, and I was right for at least a while.

This assumes that there’s people in the WH who are competent. There’s no evidence of competence anywhere in this WH. None.

They may have thought this was a good idea, and this was the best they could do with Trump’s limited grasp of reality or Trump’s refusal to accept any info that broke with his skewed view of reality.

Rank amateurism was clearly on display tonight.

My youngest sister was there (her first husband was stationed in Bremen at the time and they went to Berlin for the big event).
When they came home for a stateside assignment, she brought a bunch of chunks of the Wall.

My brother was in the Army at the time and married to an East German girl. Her family had been allowed to leave East Germany because they were giant pains to the government, but they had to leave everyone and everything behind. It was wonderful to see the wall come down and know that she was finally going to be able to see all of her extended family. Oh, and my brother went to the wall and got some chunks to bring home as well!

Why did Trump demand the time for the speech in the first place? Or is this not what he was planning on saying? Certainly our panic over a potential declaration of national emergency was unwarranted. Or maybe that was his original intent but he was persuaded not to unleash a Constitutional crisis.

I’m betting Lord Dampnut broached the idea to the JCS and they asked, “Are you fucking kidding us? We are not your personal military!”

So that was that.

No shit. We’d be good and fucked if they were.

This is why I go on and on about consequences, severe consequences. They had to be a deterrent to make the next criminal want to follow this path. Like prison, losing everything they own and ever might own, etc.

There must be consequences.

This is the US; there are rarely consequences for rich people. If Trump is smart he will resign before his first term is over so that Pence can pardon him.

He still had to deal with SDNY. He’s not going to escape this.

You just can’t hide writing talent like that.

I would LOVE to see Trump or our Texas State government try to confiscate land for that stupid wall from the border ranchers. They have held up construction with lawsuits for years. Try to take it by force and this state would blow up. Even liberal Commies like me would be marching for them.

He probably thinks he can skip the country and Putin has a nice dacha all laid out for him. If he trusts Vlad he’s as stupid as…we all know he is.

The SDNY is federal, so Pence can save him from that. The NY AG, otoh, is another story.

Gotta have that magic balance fairy, AP. On one side, a racist monument to ego. On the other, no willingness for taxpayers to fund that. Both sides!

Meanwhile, if you’re interested (I imagine not), Sen. Sanders made his rebuttal on Faceplant, YouTuber, and Twizzler.

commondreams.org

If he was relegated to those platforms, stick a fork in his campaign, he’s done.

Just an observation: I ain’t watched any of these speeches tonight but the one thing that strikes me is absolutely nobody seems to be talking about Bernie fucking Sanders. Wasn’t he supposed to give a second rebuttal or something?

Crickets.

But Lawrence did play a clip from a Beto response to Trump. That probably sent the BernieBros up the wall.

$2.50 per heir? That’s it? Not acre (which would still be ludicrous)?

There are LGBT Christians. It’s a paradox!

There is no bottom to bothsiderism. You can bothsiderise anything.

“Next: The debate on torturing dogs. Good policy or no? Sen. Romney and former Gov. Huckabee will face off against the ASPCA.”

Right, and they’re being fought….the government is trying to seize the land and those seizures are ending up in court and challenged. That’s where we are today. If he declares a national emergency he can confiscate the land for nothing, without legal challenge. What is happening now is unacceptable but it can be fought through the courts. If he declares a national emergency (or the State of Texas does) they can just seize it, kick the ranchers off, and move forward.
