I’m trying to find out how one of my matches and I are related. Unfortunately we think the connection is with my grandmother’s maternal grandfather, a man whose name we don’t know and her paternal grandmother who we can’t find much about. Really nice lady. I like talking with her since she doesn’t care about the ethnicity stuff. Just the story aspect of it all.

I think the reason why the science of dna ethnicity is complicated is because we don’t know exactly how long every group has been in their area. I have a lot of Eastern European but I can see and know there is Germanic influences in surnames in my family. Now is that because the original people with that surname were Germanic or were they Slavs who had their surnames Germanized in the Austrian Hungarian empire days? Hard to know for sure. My results, experienced, & personal beliefs tho have been reenforcing. I’m certainly proud of the cultures I descend from but I’m happy to share it and feel inclusion is the way. To my relief quite a few of my extended family I’ve met share that sentiment.

I had a training in Delaware. I stayed in north dover and the training was in southern Smyrna. It is a standard recertification training for a crisis intervention system. Loved it.

Many people were there that I knew already. Some new faces as well. One lady and I got on the subject of bread, which I have been making enough masse since the first stroke in 2017. The lady makes challah bread and pointed me to some books and also got into a discussion with lady #2 about proofing and rising of bread. All in all excellent. I am sincerely hoping that this is happening because Mueller is wrapping up. A couple of days ago, he asked for an extension of the Grand Jury, six months, which is apparently a one time thing. He would have to impanel a new GJ if it goes beyond that. I am hoping and praying he is in his end game now.

Yesterday’s redaction disaster for Manafort clearly shows that this is a big deal, likely the biggest nugget we have gotten thus far. I am pretty surprised it’s not a bigger deal. We’ll have to see how today’s news cycle plays out but that really was just shy of the MOAB’s (with the final mother being donny and junior).

Also, it was noted on twitter (which is famous for accuracy, I know) that Jr was saying he was getting indicted (again).

In a statement, Turning Point says underage drinking is grounds for attendees to be expelled from conferences.

Johnson told The Daily Beast that she joined Heal Our Voice in part because of a feeling that some political views are off-limits at Turning Point events.

“Charlie Kirk can be a little bit of a snowflake — or a lot a bit of a snowflake,” she said.

This isn’t Turning Point’s first brush with controversy on the right. Attendees at previous conferences have also spoken out about sexual harassment and assault at the events. The group has also clashed with other college conservative groups, and is still dogged by a disastrous diaper protest organized by some of its members.

Meanwhile, pro-Trump activists blamed Kirk in part after rapper Kanye West distanced himself from the group amid a merchandise spat with a related group, “Blexit.”

Democrats didn’t want a shutdown and they weren’t going to be extorted into paying for Trump’s boondoggle wall. Trump then explicitly said he’s taking credit for the shutdown.

This is about a bunch of Republicans who don’t know how to govern, think that sabotaging functioning government is their right and obligation, and that all of the GOP actions are meant to result in more tax breaks for millionaires like Trump while the burdens flow to everyone else. They figure that if they break government and nothing bad happens they prove the case that government is too big and they can gut essential parts of the government (again for the sweet tax breaks).

All the while, this immigration policy is straight out of the white nationalist playbook and plays well with angry white guys who are furthest from the actual border with Mexico.

The people who live in border states and live closest to the border are opposed to the shutdown and the wall - because they see how all this works, and they’d be the ones bearing the burden (from the government seizing land by eminent domain for the boondoggle, etc.) White nationalist immigration policy might play well in Iowa with the Steve King GOP base, but these are also the people least likely to encounter someone who isn’t white. They’ve got themselves a bogeyman and aren’t going to give up that ghost. This is how the GOP operates.

McConnell has put party over nation in giving Trump cover.

That puts the shutdown squarely on the GOP, and we’re even starting to see some Senate GOPers bristle at this.

Having media outlets try to both sides this bulkshit is just that - bulkshit. AP isn’t the only ones to do this- even NPR was trying to both sides this but they’re getting pushback from folks who rightfully point out that Trump explicitly took credit for the shutdown.

The GOP is no longer a responsible political party. It’s a party of saboteurs and agents provocateurs who are compromised and complicit. The more we learn about Mueller’s ongoing investigations and the spinoffs to federal prosecutors, the more we’re seeing the web of criminality that springs from the Russia-GOP-Trump-NRA nexus.

After 17 days of a government shutdown temper tantrum, Trump needed a game-changing home run of a speech to change the political climate in D.C. He failed.

This speech wasn’t about saving his utterly fake wall. The $5.7 billion dollars he’s demanded as his vig for ending the shutdown isn’t even close to being seriously considered, and this speech was an overt admission he’s out of airspeed, altitude, and ideas. The crisis he proudly created will end without a wall, and he knows it.

This speech was supposed to be about forcing the national dialogue to stay on the border wall. No such luck. He reeked of defeat, clearly didn’t want to be there, and it showed.

Trump looked exhausted, squinty, and bored, reading in a near-monotone from the Teleprompter. It went over like a wet fart.

The hysterical Know-Nothing show that flooded America’s airwaves on Tuesday evening was Trumpian boilerplate: Scary immigrants are coming to kill you! Drugs are coming over the border!

I’ve seen a couple of things where she’s needed to do a bit more research. But I don’t see anything where she’s just made stuff up out of whole cloth, because that would end the power she’s gained by being open. And I’m looking at the whole tweet. I was looking at the second part of that tweet, the “don’t stop blocking the wall on my account”. That just sounds so contrived. So, either she did make it up, or someone came in selling the kind of bs that O’Keefe’s group is known for.

That got me to checking which agencies are open and which ones are closed can’t pay their workers right now. And HUD is one of the shut down/furloughed agencies.

It wouldn’t surprise me if O’Keefe’s thugs tried to get some Dem congresscritter to say how bad it was that the employees of an agency were being furloughed when the employees of this particular agency were not.

I’ve met Boysko. She was a huge backer of her fellow, Jen, her predecessor and now our Congresswoman Wexton. She’s unashamed to be a liberal and she has a special place to me since she before going to Richmond played a big part in why my hometown became more progressive. The Republican she beat, Joe May actually was my State Senator here just west of her district and he’s really not that bad but he needed to lose. And I am glad he did.

So far though, Wexton has been great. She showed solidarity with the many federal employees we have in VA-10 by refusing her salary during the shutdown, she’s offered her support to the trans community, and she’s backed DC statehood too. It’s not even been a week and I’m thrilled with what my work and the work of others got us here in VA-10.

In past shutdowns, everyone has been timely paid for work performed before the shutdown started. Paychecks go out about a week after the end of the pay period. It’s possible some folks fell through the cracks this time, but if so I haven’t heard about it.

I am sincerely hoping that this is happening because Mueller is wrapping up. A couple of days ago, he asked for an extension of the Grand Jury, six months, which is apparently a one time thing. He would have to impanel a new GJ if it goes beyond that. I am hoping and praying he is in his end game now.

Yesterday’s redaction disaster for Manafort clearly shows that this is a big deal, likely the biggest nugget we have gotten thus far. I am pretty surprised it’s not a bigger deal. We’ll have to see how today’s news cycle plays out but that really was just shy of the MOAB’s (with the final mother being donny and junior).

Also, it was noted on twitter (which is famous for accuracy, I know) that Jr was saying he was getting indicted (again).

And we only learned that stuff yesterday because of lawyers screwing up.

In a way that tells me Mueller has a lot more as he holds his cards tight.

He probably already knows how those poll numbers were used. We have to remember he already indicted the Russian troll army. To me that means he has actual computer info as to how they worked.

If he has data that shows after Manafort passed them the polling numbers there was immediate activity at Facebook, Twitter and YouTube that ties to areas the numbers showed there influence was needed, then he knows the manner in which they worked.

Now he knows how they knew where to work. He probably already had people go to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to check files of activity and where they came from, maybe even has tweets directly tied to the trollers.

A problem Grassley has is that IA needs migrant workers. A multitude of stories are saying just that. It is hurting farmers as is the pointless trade war.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out in the polls.

One of the things we have going against us is that the POTUS office used to be revered and a broadcast message meant something. Just like news used to be Walter Cronkite and Peter Jennings.

Breaking out of that trust, especially for older people, is going to be tough. I think that’s why Fox initially was so well received (and it wasn’t as nuts as it is now). So, we’ll have to see how this all plays out.

I listened to Pod Save America interview with Dave Weigal yesterday on Warren’s campaign appearances in Iowa. I’m not throwing in with any particular candidate, but Weigal was really impressed, he said, with Warren’s approachability (likability) and focus on issues (over taking on Trump by name). She’s going to do better than pundits think.

Asylum is legal immigration. Federal and international law permit it. This is a proper way to seek to immigrate to the US. You can enter via a port of entry or surrender to a law enforcement officer and claim asylum. The time to process has been screwed up thanks to inadequate funding, and the shutdown makes it even tougher. Trump’s family separation policy was intent on trying to deter/deny people seeking asylum from even coming to the border to present themselves.

The wall wont stop drug trafficking, when the majority of drugs come through ports of entry or by sea or by mail (see fentanyl coming via China).

The wall wont stop the opioid epidemic (see above). Opioid addiction gained traction because legal pharmaceuticals lied about the addictive nature of the newest drugs, and people got hooked so fast that they began needing a fix beyond what doctors could prescribe. The epidemic has taken a tragic turn as people don’t know what’s in the drugs they’re buying off the streets, which can include the most addictive class of opiods, including fentanyl, which can be fatal if you don’t dose precisely.

The wall wont stop anyone who overstays a visa. The majority here illegally are because they’ve overstayed their visas.

Crime by illegal aliens is at a lower rate per capita than natural born Americans. Murder, rape, and all crime categories are committed at higher rates by natural born Americans than by illegal aliens. Trump focuses on illegals because it’s easy to demonize the nonwhites than to address gun violence (which is primarily by Americans against Americans).

Trump’s boondoggle doesn’t address any of those.

But he’s not, because it’s all about dominance politics for him and the need to show that he’s the one in control. So the DNC have to come to him, they have to ask him for something in exchange for that money, and the fact that they’re not has left him in a spot he absolutely hates: Not being the one in control.
