New York Times: The FBI Launched an Investigation Into Whether Trump Was Secretly Working on Behalf of Russia

Drip, drip, drip…

WASHINGTON — In the days after President Trump fired James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, law enforcement officials became so concerned by the president’s behavior that they began investigating whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests, according to former law enforcement officials and others familiar with the investigation.

The inquiry carried explosive implications. Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security. Agents also sought to determine whether Mr. Trump was knowingly working for Russia or had unwittingly fallen under Moscow’s influence.

The investigation the F.B.I. opened into Mr. Trump also had a criminal aspect, which has long been publicly known: whether his firing of Mr. Comey constituted obstruction of justice.

The investigation mandate allows Mueller to pursue this if it ties into the investigation. Otherwise, he can refer findings to other investigative groups.

Well, that’s the rub. There’s nothing in the Constitution about illegitimate appointments, other than impeachment.

While cabinet members would be immediately removed (presumably by Pence, but if he’s also involved well not sure what happens), officials duly confirmed by the Senate are there unless formally removed from office.

Blanket impeachments are not provided for in the Constitution. Each is a separate case.

Religion is well represented in Lubbock. The joke that you can stand on any street corner and see a church may not be 100 percent true, but you can stand in the parking lot of Lubbock City Hall and see churches from three different denominations.

Spirituality was on the top of everyone’s mind in the city’s council chambers as the invocation for Thursday night’s meeting was given by Tracey Benefield of the atheist community of Lubbock.

Despite not being addressed to a deity, the invocation deity, the invocation was heard loud and clear by its intended audience.

Well, that’s the rub. There’s nothing in the Constitution about illegitimate appointments, other than impeachment.

While cabinet members would be immediately removed (presumably by Pence, but if he’s also involved well not sure what happens), officials duly confirmed by the Senate are there unless formally removed from office.

Blanket impeachments are not provided for in the Constitution. Each is a separate case.

That said, there’s nothing wrong with applying pressure to get each to resign.

After reading that LawFare piece, I’m thinking pence isn’t going anywhere. Which in itself is scary as shit.

At least we all hopefully won’t die because don’t wants to play with his nuclear toys.

Pence may or may not have done anything.

However, he is one of the senior leaders in the party now. That brings up the old Nixonian question “what did he know and when did he know it?”

If he knew of a conspiracy that bordered on espionage, and failed to report it, he could be charged with misprision of espionage.

On the other hand, wouldn’t that chap Donnie’s ass if it was Pence giving Mueller the critical information he needed.

Y-tube started to recommend Shields and Brooks on PBS. I was surprised they still did this.
Last week I had to stop watching after Brooks, in reference to the wall debate, blithely said Dems should just give in to Trump because Trump won an election on the Wall.
This week Brooks had the same take. BOTH SIDES, Trump and Pelosi, were at fault because they reside in Towers of Ego.
Mark Shields did a good job laying out the facts.
Brooks thinks paying off Trump with a few billion is what Dems should do.
Republicans are so weazelly with their words.

thanks for this. I’d forgotten that I wanted to explore Itunes to see what Seger they had. They’ve got the early capital recordings, which are a cool, unheralded part of what radio typically thinks of as a career that started with Night Moves.

The Last Herd was the rockin-est Seger. ‘Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man’ is still one of my favorite songs. Short, sharp, shock.
