Most measle outbreak clusters surround vaccinated patients. Hate to tell you.

And those vaccinated patients tend to *checks notes* not get measles. Funny that.

Yeah, it’s almost as if vaccines do what experts and ordinary people alike have been saying they do for many, many decades…

My new prediction: The shutdown collapses and tRump gets to make his SOTU address. Since his dementia is obviously getting worse by the day, he completely blows a gasket and starts gibbering like a monkey in front of both Houses of Congress on every network.

Of course the MAGAts will say he’s speaking in tongues, and that proves he’s the Second Coming, or some shit….

If Trump goes with the presidential emergency powers nonsense, I think the appropriate (D) response would be to aim straight for the jugular: The GOP donor class, the GOP itself, Fox News, and Hate Radio are clearly a much more serious threat to America than illegal immigration.

i know, everyone streams everything these days, it still seems to me that there’s a market and a need for AM radio, because you could have public service broadcasting, sports, weather and news because you could use the same media weapon against all of the culture war programming that has been in place, the thing is, you wouldn’t need to make a profit from it.

Coulter would in fact be one of the most dangerous primary opponents vs. Trump in 2020. She has a decent chance of taking away Trump’s base by being even more hateful and bigoted than he is, and the rest of the Republican party wouldn’t know whether to shit or go blind.

Let’s face it…what we needed in Congress coming into this year were leaders on a war footing to go up against Trump and Pence and we got that in Pelosi. The jury’s still out on Schumer, given his history the past couple of years, but having Pelosi to lean on seems to have helped him find his spine as of late.

At first blush, the thing seems like it’s setting up the return of Lebowski, Walter, and everybody except Donny in an honest-to-god Big Lebowski sequel—but don’t get your hopes up just yet. There’s basically no possible way that Bridges and the Coen Brothers secretly shot another Lebowski movie in 2019 without news leaking out somewhere, and look at that date again. February 3: Super Bowl Sunday.

[…]

In any case, the whole thing is at least a nice excuse to wonder what, exactly, the Dude might be up to, all these years later. Shouldn’t his and Maude’s kid be in college by now? Has he finally found a new rug? And Walter Sobchak definitely voted for Trump, right?

Unfortunately, the closest thing we’ll probably ever get to a Big Lebowski sequel is John Turturro’s Jesus Quintana spinoff movie—and no promises that will be anything more than truly bizarre. Sorry, everybody. At least we’ll likely get to see Bridges reprise his iconic role for a minute or so to sell us something during the Super Bowl, which honestly sounds depressing as hell. But, well, that’s just, like, uh, our opinion, man.

Have you all seen this via politicalwire.com

“Jared Kushner’s application for a top secret clearance was rejected by two career White House security specialists after an FBI background check raised concerns about potential foreign influence on him — but their supervisor overruled the recommendation and approved the clearance,” NBC News reports.

“The official, Carl Kline, is a former Pentagon employee who was installed as director of the personnel security office in the Executive Office of the President in May 2017. Kushner’s was one of at least 30 cases in which Kline overruled career security experts and approved a top secret clearance for incoming Trump officials despite unfavorable information, the two sources said. They said the number of rejections that were overruled was unprecedented — it had happened only once in the three years preceding Kline’s arrival

That tweet by Bridges today… the video already has a claimed 5.4M views. Talk about a ready fanbase, if the Cohen brothers are going to do something then they will not be in need of an audience.

Ted Lieu

@tedlieu
I’m think we’ve been asking the wrong question about Kushner. Instead of “why does Jared have a security clearance?” the appropriate question should be, “why is Jared a Senior White House Advisor?”

From firing Comey, to no peace plan, to this shutdown, his advice is horrible

My senator just had his “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” moment. The first five minutes are great, and so is the rest of it.

Michael Bennet’s full speech on the shutdown

Why was Trump allowed to hire, assign, and appoint family and co-conspirators to seemingly every position of consequence? Because oversight failed to exist.

It’s pretty remarkable that Trump hasn’t thrown Jared under the bus yet after all that winning.

Probably because he knows the SCO will scoop him up in a heartbeat.

If Jared gets nailed because of the Deutsche Bank scandal, Trump will run him out of the White House in no time. But I bet he keeps Ivanka around.

So the great Jared Kushner isn’t fit to be given secrets materials. And he is dealing with people internationally

Trump has been cut down to size, with Mitch along for the descent, over his wall and government funding by The Heavy Hand of Arch Radical Rightest Pelosi.

(But everyone knew her as Nancy)

And people that are not getting paid and fear financial collapse should go out and get some small loans and an I.O.U. tab going at the local grocery giant, maybe at the bar and the gas station down the road.

This is America today. Ignore the witness tampering, The Republicans do.

Yay US.

Part of my work includes a shop where some of the most powerful acids are being used. Platinum if famously stable. So much so expensive platinum vessels are made for the most delicate chemical processes where conditions disallow glass. Even ht pyrex.

When platinum has to be purified it is pretty spectacular as lab processes go. It’s going to take days for one ounce of scrap platinum jewelry to dissolve completely. The violent off-gassing is nitrogen and NOx.

Posted this public on my FB, I hope it plays well. Who recognizes the borrowed theme music?

Dammit, Elizabeth Warren. Wealth taxes don’t hurt trust-funders nearly so much as they do the just-retired, who then find that their nest egg runs out before their hourglass does and have nothing to pass on to their children.

It’s really easy to avoid wealth taxes, or inheritance taxes:

SPEND IT OR GIVE IT AWAY!!!

See how simple that was?
