What the hell did Greta do when she tweeted some nonsensical conspiracy bulkshit about CNN, Mueller, and the fact that CNN was there when the FBI knocked to arrest Stone this morning.

Oh yeah, she started a conspiracy theory.

That why the next few weeks are critical to see what lies the Republican and both-siderist parts of the political media come up with to support this latest Lost Cause.

If you are familiar with Hong Kong and mainland Chinese wu xia (martial arts) movies, you’ll see many parallels between them and Aquaman. The movie is a big hit here for that reason. Plus, there’s a lot of Chinese women daydreaming about Jason Momoa.

Actually, that’ll be his second major movie role here lately; he reprised his iconic role of Ivan Drago in Creed 2. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but, from what I’ve read, he did a helluva job in playing Drago as a man that had everything taken from him after his loss to Rocky in Rocky IV, who has literally had to fight to survive, and has trained and pushed his son to do what he couldn’t in the ring.

131
jaunte  Jan 25, 2019 • 8:44:38pm

House Practice, 2017

Standing, Select, and Joint Committees Distinguished
House committees are of three distinct types: (1) standing committees,
whose members are elected by the House, (2) select committees (also called
special committees), whose members are appointed by the Speaker, and (3)
joint committees, whose members are chosen according to the provisions of
the statute or concurrent resolution creating them. Variations of these three
categories are discussed in later sections.
Standing committees (created in the standing rules) receive bills and
other measures within their jurisdiction upon referral from the Speaker. See
INTRODUCTION AND REFERENCE OF BILLS. Select committees are established (usually outside the standing rules) to consider a particular matter or subject and may or may not have legislative jurisdiction. A select committee often expires when it issues its final report on the matter for which it was created.
4 Hinds §§ 4403-4405; see § 12, infra. Joint committees take up matters of
concern to both Houses. See § 14, infra.

Indeed.

I periodically wander over and check out the Freepers - in my view, they’re the real hardcore base of Trumpland.

I’m seeing cracks in their unity; if the Freepers turn on Trump wholesale and start calling him a “beta cuck” or a “RINO” or whatnot, then Trump may as well just announce he’s decided he’s not going to seek re-election after all, that come January 2021, he’s going back to his tacky, gold-plated penthouse suite overlooking Central Park and write his memoirs (or more accurately, have someone ghostwrite it for him).

When or if the Freepers turn on him, it’s game over.

He needs to do something dramatic to reunite them back behind him. War with Venezuela or the like. Remember, he still has a lot of aces up his sleeve as Prez and CinC and he is not cornered enough yet to start pulling them out.

I’d think maybe a war (or at least some kind of military campaign) against Iran would be the most likely to really get them fired up. Ties in with a lot of the apocalyptic End Times fantasies that the GOP base faps to.

Venezuela is closer, fewer other powers likely to get directly involved and would also serve as a good excuse to seal off our southern border for reasons of national security.

Iran is too much of a logistic and geostrategic mess. Venezuela is at our doorstep and offers all the same advantages: installing a US-friendly regime that will supply us with oil, supplying us with bad guys (South American terrorist-socialists) and an excuse to close off our border with a Wall of Steel.

Aquaman also features a return to the silver screen that nobody asked for ever- Dolph Lundgren.

I saw Dolph (didn’t meet him) a coupe times in Houston in the late 80’s when he was filming the movie Dark Angel. They were filming around the courthouse district (I worked for Harris County data processing at the time, just around the corner from where they filmed some grocery store scene). My friend and I would get off our shift, grab a beer and go watch the filming, setup, whatever they were doing at that time. They “blew up” the little grocery on the far corner of the block our building was on.

Short of an outright German win over North America, which was beyond any sane short-term Nazi wet dream, a successful Sea Lion and British surrender would have certainly worsened Canadian and US domestic politics. In the end that would have led to a crippling of Jewish life on our continent. (Think of the Vichy-US dominated by a Klan and Silver Shirts fostered from abroad.) That’s another reason to put T-34s and B-17s on monuments.

Also, Brazil’s population is mostly on the eastern and southeastern coasts, and any military cooperation with Brazil would have to find its way through 1500 miles (by air from Belem) of mostly undeveloped jungle. Need we repeat this? Had he been at all serious, he would have named a planning commission to do an engineering and feasibility study on the wall including design proposals, legal and environmental impact studies, a proposed budget and a timetable, like any serious construction project.

But The Wall is not a construction project, it is a Construction and a symbolic expression of how fucking xenophobic and cussed Trump’s supporters are.

Yeah, it was handled so badly it makes me wonder how long McConnell will remain as Senate Majority leader.

The next set of elections were already going to be ‘a bit difficult’ for Republicans, and now they’ve shown:

i) They will hurt Americans for no particular reason.
ii) They can’t deliver on their promises.
iii) They have no plan on what they are actually trying to do.

Probably the main thing protecting McConnell right now is that until the Republican base separates from blindly supporting Trump (which might be in progress) the next Senate leader is going to initially have a lot of noise against them, as well as have to handle guiding the party when a large number of indictments are made against its members.

If there was a betting market for it though, I would like to place a small wager on Mitt Romney being the senate majority leader before 6 months are over.

Mitch loves to wield power but I can’t see him being willing to cover for Trump all over again on this. Trump’s capitulation following weeks of stonewalling by the GOP senate is probably the most disrespectful slight Mitch has ever seen in his long career of ratfucking.

Mitch was the loyal Republican team player, and made to look like a fool by Trump’s ineptitude and outright failure.

They have great examples to follow. Often times their fundie preachers are doing exactly what they preach against.

This story actually brings something home to me, though: A lot of times, I think of conspiratards and other assorted idjits as “them”. They are, in fact, real people, often ruining real lives in real ways. It’s sad, it’s infuriating, but we need to treat them like real people (including telling them off when they’re just being assholes).

You work with them
You work under them
they’re driving the cars around you
they are elected and in your local state and natl govts
They perform surgery on you
They prepare and serve your food
They prescribe drugs
Fly planes, trains, drive the buses

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but… Ronald Reagan’s son was a ballet dancer.

Ronald Jr. is one fun political subject.

He is so forgotten in conservative world I wonder how many people even know he exists.

He is definitely one that fell far from the tree.

Daddy did everything he could to ignore him. A fine father that.

Shows the true conservative mind, if you don’t fall in line they can forget you are part of their family. How Christian. Probably why Ron Jr. is an avowed atheist.

I’m lucky since Social Security’s appropriation bill had been passed and signed into law on time—the first time in 22 years that we had our FY appropriation before the start for the fiscal year on October 1st.

And you can bet that I am pumping as much of my salary as I can into a savings account in preparation for being forced to work for no pay starting October 1st.

contractors, programs, snap, fbi, coast guard, on and on and on

I’ve learned to never say never with the Trump gang and the McConnell Senate.

If they shut the government down in three weeks it will be one of the strangest political moves ever seen in a lifetime. It would make zero sense both in the meat world and the political world.

And you can then go down the list of all the bad things they would be trying to pull if they do.

But none of that is in the minds of the people that have to put up with these very strange moves by Trump and Mitch.

The USA remains a democratic republic, so Trump and Mitch still answer to the people they fuck over. And they will. Folks have had it with those two.

Actually, Aquaman is quite enjoyable. Easily the second best DCEU movie. A wee too long for my taste, but it doesn’t drag too much. Momoa’s Aquaman really earned his superhero stripes here.
