In Which Donald Trump Admits ISIS Hasn’t Been Defeated and North Korea Hasn’t Denuclearized, Then Attacks US Intelligence Services (Again)

Politics • Views: 33,728

In yet another early morning extended Twitter rant, Donald Trump made a series of surprising admissions, although I’m sure he’d deny that’s what they are. First, he admitted all that boasting he did about “defeating ISIS” was, yes, a lie.

It’s gone from wiped out and defeated, to “will soon be destroyed,” and in either case it’s pure bullshit, of course.

Then he admitted that all his boasting about convincing Kim Jong-Un to abandon North Korea’s nuclear weapons program was also…. another lie!

It’s gone from “denuclearized, yay me!” to a “decent chance of denuclearization.”

This is so pathetic it would be laughable if the subject wasn’t so deadly serious.

He also posted several demented rants about his imaginary border wall, but the last ones I’ll highlight today illustrate what a threat this guy is to US national security.

That may be the first time in history anyone has ever accused US intelligence services of being “passive and naive.” But the fact that we have a president who willfully ignores and attacks them isn’t funny any more — it’s incredibly dangerous.

But I do have to point out the sad irony of a dimwitted con man who says “intelligence should go back to school” — right after beclowning himself by misusing the word “there.”

Trump is a clear and present danger to the United States and its national security.

Period.

There’s no qualifications or limitations on that statement. His utter dumbfuckery re: national security and ignoring intel briefings, policy statements, etc., to spew nonsense that come from derp knows where puts our nation at grave risk.

It doesn’t matter if he thinks he knows what he’s doing, or he’s addled and has no clue - the outcome is the same. He’s a threat, and his choices all benefit some nation other than the US.

So, they weren’t using it before? That’s the presumption here, because if they were using it before, they would have not hired all those undocumented persons.

They looked the other way to maximize their profits. They ignored the law to maximize Trump profits.

i have no doubt they helped at least some of these people ‘find’ their dox so they could then hire them

re: #5 The Vicious Babushka

In a new filing in the Internet Research Agency case, Mueller’s team says they’ve found evidence discovery documents were forged as part of a “disinformation campaign aimed (apparently) at discrediting ongoing investigations into Russian interference in the US political system.”

Another reason Mueller is being so terribly careful and methodical: he knows that his opponents will go to any length to discredit his findings so they have an excuse to disregard them.

How many of you, when reading “all the files Mueller had about the IRA and Russian collusion” first thought IRA = Irish Republican Army and not IRA = Internet Research Agency?

Maybe it’s because of this cold I can’t shake. Maybe it’s because for much of my life, IRA meant the former, not the latter. Man, these recycled acronyms…

This thing with Mueller and IRA and the Russians… is getting seriously down into the weeds for most American, I think.

And this is going to be one of the big problems facing us - getting our society back on track after Trump, as many people will just not want to pay attention.

Getting rid of Trump will not be the end but as Churchill said the end of the beginning. We have to make sure 2024 or 2028 isn’t like 2000 and 2016 and have amnesia set in.

They are soulless jackals. I told one “leader” off this morning when he was pontificating about how awful it was that Virginia was considering legislation similar to the recently-passed New York law that protects the life of the mother in childbirth. I gave him an earful, including how it’s very clear from his very own dogma (he’s an obnoxious Calvinist whose church organization makes a point of excluding women from any authority) that women are second class. (Behind the lock and key for a couple of tweets.)

Dude, if I had to follow that rule, I’d be out of a damned job.

It should have. He was a prick beneath the facade he created.

And the right wingers would be okay with that.

Yeah, the “Handmaid’s Tale.” Just a rant for a moment—Evangelical (and other) churches don’t know what to do with women who are not married. If you’re a divorced woman and you have kids, there’s an outreach for that, but for the rest of us? Naaah. Instead if we go to these churches, it’s sermons on how to spice up your sex life in marriage biblically and how to be a good parent**. I have never been married and I don’t have children. None of this advice helps me in the least. And I’m hardly alone. For the first time in American history, slightly over 50 percent of adult American women are in a not-married state—either never-married, divorced or widowed. And so many of these churches don’t have a clue except to retreat into their whole “everything centers around the faaaaamily” shtick.

If these right-wingers had their way, they’d force us into marriages with “headships,” men who would control us. F*ck that noise. I’m not interested. (I’d add, “Lock and load,” if I had a gun, but I don’t.)

**ETA: that includes using spanking as the primary tool to get conformity. *grrrr*

Yep. Vaccines have a high success rate, but they aren’t guaranteed. And even then, most times if you don’t get the full immunoresponse, a vaccine will still make the resultant illness much less severe if you do end up catching it. Not to mention that the effects of vaccines DO weaken over time, which is why booster shots are a thing.

re: #60 The Vicious Babushka

Herd immunity - some diseases like measles are so infectious that you need nearly perfect immunization to prevent spread. There are people who can’t get immunized - infants, people who have compromised immunity, and vaccinations protect those folks too.

It protects everyone else.

For some diseases, it’s the difference between life and death - like polio or smallpox. We eradicated smallpox and are almost all the way there with polio but there are pockets of polio in the wild. Measles was virtually eliminated in the US until the antivaxxers latched on to the bogus MMR vaccine-autism link.

For other diseases, it’s a life or death or serious complications, like the flu. You can prevent/limit the spread, or even reduce how bad it’s going to hit you if you do get it (and you can get it despite getting vaccinated).

My personal take is that federal law should be enacted that all religious exceptions to vaccination are null and void because of public safety. Only way to avoid vaccination is if you are immune compromised. And it should be at the federal level because travel/transit means anyone can cross state lines and infect people (and we get stories about this regularly - like people who travel overseas, stop at multiple airports, and potentially expose thousands of people in the process).

Dear Mr. Woods:

In fact the Supreme court is fully seated.
‘Viability’ is not relevant.

here’s just a bit, h/t electoral-vote.com

Roger Taney (Dred Scott) in his final years he was so infirm he could barely walk or write. He stayed on the bench until he died at the age of 87, in a time when being 87 was like being 100 today.

Nathan Clifford needed the paycheck, and so he remained on the court well into his seventies, and after a severe stroke. His capacity was so reduced in his final years that his SCOTUS colleagues referred to him as the “babbling idiot.”

William O. Douglas also suffered a severe stroke, and was so dysfunctional that his colleagues agreed that they would postpone any case where he was the deciding vote.

Frank Murphy spent the last several years of his decade-long tenure going in and out of hospitals. During this time, his clerks and/or his friend Wiley Blount Rutledge wrote most of the opinions that bore Murphy’s name.

My Grandmother made the best damn fried chicken in the whole fucking world. Period.

She grew up on a farm in Missouri. She used an unconscionable amount of salt. She didn’t coat it with buttermilk or anything like that. The parts were dredged in flour mixed with salt and pepper. She fried in Crisco, in two pans - one wide, flat skillet and a second tall-sided pan with a lid. She turned it with a fork. She was always moving pieces from pan to pan, taking the lid off for a bit, putting it back on for a bit, raising the heat, and lowering the heat, all for no obvious reason.

None of us who watched her and have tried to replicate the magic have come close.

No, not really double frying. This was strictly pan-fried, with the Crisco no more than about 1/2” deep.

The pieces went into one pot or the other at the start, and just moved from one to the other. And back. My best guess is that the lidded pan served as sort of an oven to heat from top and bottom, whereas the open pan heated only from the bottom.

I suspect she turned the heat up and down based on the sound the bubbling oil was making, and lid on/lid off based on how the pieces were browning.

Pan fried chicken is a balancing between cooking the meat and browning the crust.

Nah. I don’t think it’s the oil. I think that battery’s a couple years old, and while it holds up just fine in warmer weather, the extreme cold just sucked the juice right out of it. It sits outside, not in the garage. What I need to do is run an extension cord out there and get a battery tender on it.

Oh yeah—Safety doctrine and personal experience: A frozen auto battery is VERY happy to explode, even after you think it has thawed. By dumb luck I had stepped behind the open hood when one went off. Yes, I’ve heard that. This battery is fully charged, so I wouldn’t say it’s frozen, but I haven’t looked at it. I am always extremely cautious with batteries I think are frozen, and if they are conclusively frozen - visibly bulged - I don’t even bother. It gets replaced forthwith.

It was a kid’s car. The temps had been above freezing for a day, but after a hard NJ freeze. Blast was super-impressive.

Yeah, I can imagine. I know the battery was fully charged because Mrs. Fish drove it on a 22-mile round trip just yesterday afternoon, and that’s the last time it was touched. I should have tried it this morning, but at -29 degrees F actual air temperature, I assumed it’d be dead. I hoped for warmer afternoon temps to restore enough power to get it to turn over. I hoped wrong.

No, this is a solenoid-on-starter vehicle. That’s actually the most likely cause. I did a visual inspection and the battery isn’t bulging, so I’m going to assume it’s something like that, and just try it again tomorrow afternoon when temperatures are supposed to be closer to 0.

re: #137 Decatur Deb

Oh yeah—Safety doctrine and personal experience: A frozen auto battery is VERY happy to explode, even after you think it has thawed. By dumb luck I had stepped behind the open hood when one went off. The blast is about as powerful as a 12 gauge, scattered acid and case fragments over the yard and roof.

It takes a good bit to freeze a half-charged battery, but a lot of Lizards are in the zone now.

Sometimes freezing a battery will also kill it. A warm battery is a happy battery. I used to take ‘em out in some of my old cars back in the 70s during cold snaps. Take it in the house, put it on a wood plank somewhere warm. It takes a few minutes to hook it back up, but it is faster than running a cold battery down and having to deal with it.

UCF student arrested, had fully automatic AR-15 in vehicle at campus dorm, police say

An engineering student at UCF was arrested after police discovered he was keeping a fully-automatic AR-15 in his car at an on-campus dorm, authorities said.

UCF police began investigating Max Bennett Chambers, 19, after receiving a tip that he possessed drop-in auto sears, which can be used to convert a semiautomatic rifle into an automatic weapon.

According to an affidavit, Chambers allowed police to search his vehicle at the Towers at Knights Plaza, a complex of apartment-style dorm towers on the main campus. The AR-15 was found inside the vehicle and Chambers admitted to owning it, police said.

Fun fact, originalist category:

During the Jefferson Administration, Aaron Burr was being tried for treason, and Chief Justice John Marshall was handling the trial (back in those days, the Supreme Court Justices would “ride the circuits” and hear appeals and/or handle trials individually). Marshall issued a subpoena to Thomas Jefferson to produce documents, and contemplated issuing a subpoena for Jefferson to appear and give testimony. He decided against the testimony subpoena after determining the produced documents were sufficient.

Schmidt does a lot of justification dancing for Schultz and says the need is because the political system is broken.

Of course he gets into bothersiderism and also leaves out why the system is broken and who helped break it.

This thing with Mueller and IRA and the Russians… is getting seriously down into the weeds for most American, I think.

And this is going to be one of the big problems facing us - getting our society back on track after Trump, as many people will just not want to pay attention.

There’s just so much shit we’ll never catch up and people will lose interest. Bannon said their strategy was “flooding the zone with bullshit” and it worked to perfection. Mueller has to go public with the small fraction he’s uncovered. He’s waiting to get it all and that’s impossible. Meanwhile we’re dying out here.

That’s a great analogy and that movie was hilarious.

I was kinda thinking teleskiguy was being snarky when he said retirement. His backing Trump might bring about that retirement.

But then I could be wrong. I’m just here literally chilling in a cold Ohio.

re: #68 lawhawk

Antivaxxers immediately scream “There’s no such thing as herd immunity!!” Don’t like the word “herd”, I guess. My response is always that if there’s no such thing as herd immunity, then there’s no such thing as a subcritical mass of plutonium. Any amount, no matter how small, will explode. The arithmetic is exactly the same.

In the classical senses of the term, both conservatives and progressives have their place in government. The problem is that both political parties have slowly been edging toward the conservative side ever since the Southern Strategy exposed conservative voters as a politically reliable power base. We don’t have any political party that is truly “progressive”; think about how radical the idea of single-payer health care is even to the modern Democratic Party… and contrast with the fact that many other civilized countries already have such a thing.

The only time I could drink Starbucks was when they made discs for the Tassimo coffee system.

Up here in Toronto they learned to make proper coffee.

Many Canadians wouldn’t touch the stuff that Starbucks offers, which is barely even ‘coffee based’.

Batteries get so cold in that open-underneath engine compartment. I miss my VWs. In the Squareback it was under the back seat and in the 412s it was under the driver’s seat. Stayed much warmer.

Just got home.

-20 on the drive. Low wind (so only -34 wind chill) but a clear crisp sky with Orion’s belt as clear as it is cold. Supposed to hit -30 tonight.

Hot water heater is not flowing but the cold is fine because I left it running a trickle. Next time both sides get cracked open. Well, I can shower at work easily (the best thing about working at a hotel is the options when housing problems arise.). Now to make supper and a mug of tea.

Napster lives!

A few years ago I got together with my best friends from high school to re-record a couple of songs from a demo we had done. We actually put out an album in 1982, but the quality sucked. So one member who has done ok financially paid for the recording and also to remaster the album for CD and other platforms. Anyway….

He just shared with me that he’s made a whole $12 since the last check from various accumulated sources (which was less that $12 as i recall). Someone paid for about 1/2 with a $6 purchase. The rest were mostly 0.01 payments from iTunes, Spotify, and, yes NAPSTER. That thing still exists? But hey! 35 years later we’re ready to catch on!

The 73 LandRover has 2 times 12 volts in a bank just under the drivers right elbow. That much power has never failed it, but it has a hand crank just in case.

That’s why the GOPers and their flacks are so invested in smearing and discrediting her, because they know she’s telling facts in a way people can understand it and that’s bad, real bad for them.
