Sure. Why not.

Chao has met at least 10 times with politicians and business leaders from the state in response to requests from McConnell’s office, according to documents provided to POLITICO by the watchdog group American Oversight. In some cases, those people later received what they were hoping for from Chao’s department, including infrastructure grants, the designation of an interstate highway and assistance in getting state funds for a highway project — although the documents don’t indicate the meetings led to those outcomes.

That may McConnell’s real end game. I know some think he’s a Kremlin tool and he still might be but this could be simple old greed where he agreed to do Trump’s bidding if Trump put Elaine in his cabinet and help Mitch’s pals out. And yeah he’s very corrupt. Kentucky Democratic Party needs to find a good candidate to run against him. Make the Turtle live in political fear that his political career might be over and he might be investigated for criminal activity.

I’ve been wondering that since pretty much the entire right had one giant shit fit when we elected a guy named Obama president and then they nominated a chickenshit asshole who in his own words thinks it’s bad that we don’t hurt people anymore for the office that Abraham Lincoln once held. The right? They can go fuck themselves for all I care. They really need to get their political asses kicked to learn that their ideology is unacceptable for a modern and civilized nation. And if that means Trump is the first President that dies in prison, so be it, he will have deserved it.

OMG

Baltimore Fire spokeswoman Blair Skinner says a security guard saw a man engulfed in flames running from the portable toilet. The man was dead by the time medics arrived, and three portable toilets were on fire.

The man has not been identified. It’s unclear how long he had been in the toilet. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

I mean even going from Romney to Trump was a giant shit leap for the GOP. Fuck Romney, obviously but at least he tried his hand at governing and he wasn’t just being Governor of Massachusetts for the people who voted for him. Trump? Trump only cares about the people who voted for him. He’s disgusting. He’s amoral, undemocratic, has nothing redeemable at all about his character, etc. I can’t even say that him and I are both sports lovers because his type of sports fandom in contrast with George W Bush’s fandom of baseball which I share with GWB is exactly what I hate about sports.

Man, the Nobel Peace Prize voting is going to be unanimous. //

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he wants North Korea to end its nuclear program, but has no pressing time schedule for this, as he dispatched his special envoy to finalize preparations for a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next week.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said sanctions against North Korea would remain in place in the meantime and noted Pyongyang’s freeze in nuclear and missile testing since 2017.

“I’m in no rush. There’s no testing. As long as there is no testing, I’m in no rush. If there’s testing, that’s another deal,” he said. “I’d just like to see ultimately denuclearization of North Korea.”

That’s one way of looking at it. I do think most people know how they feel about Bernie by now. Question for the linux guru types (hidden so as not to bore the rest of you):

Because I bought myself an RTX 2070 to do machine learning, and I’m having to manually build some of the libraries, I am going to reinstall the OS a few times in order to figure everything out (I’ve had to do this with Windows as well, so no one’s perfect). The one thing I have to change on the installer is add “nomodeset” to grub. I would like to do that on the usb stick installer I have created, so that I don’t have to remember to make the change every time. Is there a way for me to make that change? I cannot seem to find anything describing how to do it, and I think that’s because I don’t know what to look for.

Whenever Trump and his cronies are swept from office, one of the most important duties for his replacement will be rebuilding the world’s trust in the U.S.

What is there in Bernie’s experience or known skill set that qualifies him for that part of the job? What are his foreign policy bona fides? His relevant expertise?

(For all my misgivings about Biden’s age and relevance to younger voters, it’s hard to argue that he’s not head and shoulders above everyone else in the current field in this particular area.)

Which is of course concern #2 that my Bernie-lovin’ friends don’t like talking about: after all those years in Congress, what evidence is there that he has the skills he’d need to make deals and get imperfect, pragmatic real-world bills passed?

For as few years as Obama had been in the Senate, that was clearly a skill he possessed in droves. It’s a plus, to my mind, for Klobuchar, Gillibrand and Harris right now - and especially for Sherrod Brown if he gets in.

I really think a lot of our Bernie supporting friends and family want an ideologue and not a leader. Obviously I want our next president to share my principles but I’m not voting for whose ideology is the most left. I’m voting for who is going to be the best President and I don’t see anything that suggests that is Bernie.

I don’t like how he shits on the Dem coalition and then shits on our past leaders like they did nothing. He’s got a massive ego on him and I’m sad that more people on our side can’t see that personality wise he’s got more in common with Trump than he doesn’t but they’re too blinded by ideology.

I don’t know. I think that territory was already entered when Trump asked Comey to drop the case against Flynn. Not to mention when he fired Comey and explicitly said that it was to try and stop the Russia investigation.

I liked Bernie for about a half second. I don’t like him anymore. Not at all. He can’t win, because he will never ever get the Dem coalition votes. He will get white moonbats, both male and female. Not nearly enough. But he will ratfuck the hell out of the primaries.

The Bernie supporters are loud but few. I think “electable” is on everybody’s mind, and Bernie, who has already failed once, won’t make the cut. Even former Bernie supporters of my acquaintance feel that way, and I hope my experience matches the rest of the country.

18 years after WTC Sikhs are still being attacked because there are people who feel entitled to inflict their anger on a target, but also entitled to not know what a Muslim…the putative deserving subject of violence…is.

Compare and contrast with the insane bathroom bill logic in which trans people are predators (even though there’s no evidence), people that visually code as appropriately gendered are okay (even though there’s ample evidence that predators are…anybody…with no discernable exterior features), where predation is done by strange weirdos (nope), and bathroom choice should correlate to chromosomes but also policing of external appearance as masculine/feminine (the former being impossible unless the crapper does PCR, the latter being purely aesthetic and lateral to trans identity).

Here’s the things folks: the incoherence is the point in the same way the cruelty is the point. It’s a form of exercising power over others. Ignore autonomy of bodies, ignore common humanity, ignore the reversibility of empathy…ignore the conceit that ideas themselves have value external to their originator and the “side” the originator is on.

They are not gloating about “FACTS” and “LOGIC” because they value these things. They are not mistaking rhetoric tricks for descriptive analysis by accident. They are trying to hollow out the meaning of the words and substitute whatever the fuck they want that’s convenient to declaring their latest impression “true.”

They’re too cowardly to be nihilists, so they just change the definitions of ideas that they want to value, as needed, to do whatever they fucking want. God, justice, law…they’ve dissolved the wall between idealism and cynicism, so the given meaning of any word is exactly what they need it to be, in the moment, and nothing else. (Until the next moment)

They’ve basically made a Ed Gein suit out of Jesus.

They do not want to make sense. Whenever a plan or argument doesn’t make sense, the subtext is “I just get to say what is and what should be, and you don’t get to contradict me.” It’s fun; all the fun of being righteous and intelligent and the argument winner, with none…none…of the effort.

And generally they’re planning and arguing that somebody deserves their suffering…or deserves more suffering inflicted…so they also get to be sadists.

McD’s in China tastes like McD’s in the USA. Same with Burger King and Subway. However, there are more spicy sandwich menu items than in the States, AFAIK. KFC used to replace the French fries with a kind of corn salad, but now that Chinese customers have grown to like French fries, the corn salad has been replaced by fries as the default side dish.

McD’s in Italy had most of the usual, which we didn’t buy. We got their side dishes, which they had a wider assortment of - jalapeno poppers, mozzarella bites, bacon cheese fries (which are now in the US, I note). I like vegan burgers (some of them, anyway — I still miss the organic vegetarian restaurant I used to visit, that went out of business about 30 years ago), but the “cheese” they inflicted on us at the convention was made from tapioca. Eaten by itself, it didn’t really taste like cheese, but as an ingredient of a cooked dish it wasn’t bad.

I think Naples is the place for Pizza. Dunno as I’ve never been to Italy. Gonna get hell for this but Italian food outside of pizza is meh for me. I much prefer my Slavic “pastas” of pierogis, halupki, etc. My one cousin who is half Sicilian otoh felt the other way. She was really craving the Italian cooking she likes when we were in Slovakia. Because he leaked the story of the Abedin laptop to the press to fuck over Hillary and then lied to Comey and investigators about it (or at least left them both with the distinct impression that they’d been lied to.) That leak plus the reported threats from the NY FBI office are apparently what helped push Comey to release his infamous October surprise letter.

Also, even if what McCabe is saying about Rosenstein’s offer to wear a wire (everyone else seems to have understood that it was a joking rebuke of McCabe along the lines of “what do you want me to do, wear a wire?”) what the fuck does McCabe think he’s accomplishing by revealing it now when all that does is feed Trump a rationale for purging the DOJ? Same thing with the talk about the 25th Amendment, who the fuck benefits from revealing that now?

Point being they are all a bunch of shitweasels who actively helped Trump win and then were horrified by Trump’s behavior, but none of them have ever taken real responsibility for actively getting us to this point.

It’s probably because they were/are way more anti-HRC than they’re admitting. I’m fully convinced a lot of these guys (Comey in particular) figured if they could help sandbag Clinton, Trump would repay their loyalty.

Because apparently you can’t Google “Trump business practices” on FBI computers.

Definitely a lot of arrogance to Comey. Trump was wrong to fire him but I don’t like the man.

If you need to change the bootloader options, you have to edit /etc/default/grub. Maybe this article will help howtogeek.com

This one is specifically about nomodeset. ubuntuforums.org

And you may have helped me solve a problem with my kubuntu install booting into a black screen.

Thanks. I have that set for my existing install because I had the black screen problem. What I cannot seem to figure out is if I create a custom installer, how can I have that be the default install option.

I love Slovak Rusyn food. It’s simple. It’s not exotic but man it’s hearty.

I suspect you may be right, but I’d have to visit Naples to be sure. ;)

As for Italian food, I generally don’t disagree, if you’re considering the stuff that you get at chains or out of a box. A real live Italian cook with a real Italian grandmother’s recipe, on the other hand, is a whole different story. Think of it like the difference between getting a Reuben from a gas station versus going to a Brooklyn delicatessen.

And there’s the catch. I have no Italian mother or grandmother. :) But then again my sister in law makes good pasta so maybe she’s got some Italian ancestry she doesn’t know about heh.

I, on the other hand, am an Irishman, the son of an Irishman, who is himself the son of an Irishman, all the way back to the point where my Irishmen were Scotsmen. I know only two basic food groups: Meat, and Potatoes.

Yes, the lungs have to be inspected to make sure the animal wasn’t diseased. I don’t even know of any facilities in the U.S. that process kosher game animals.

I will have to ask my grandson who was recently ordained as a rabbi and is also certified as a shochet (kosher slaughterer). He trained in South America.

Having all those offspring gives you immediate access to an expert on every aspect of halakha. :)

Dude when you’re Slavic-Irish-German. It’s meat, cabbage, & potatoes. I live for the stuff still even though I love Indian, Mexican, & Thai now too.

There was an interesting show I caught on American brands overseas. One of the things they talked about was Subway in Israel. All of the ham was replaced with Turkey substitutes and there was no cheese.

Another one was McDonald’s in India. A lot of ingenious ways to use chicken, and a lot of the sandwiches are spicy. McDonald’s creates the menu items there in the same kitchen lab they have set up for their other restaurants.

Trump citing Rosenstein’s letter as justification for firing Comey when A.) He’d demanded the letter, B. Said he was going to fire him regardless because of the Russia investigation and C.) Rosenstein’s letter actually cited Comey’s treatment of Clinton as unfair and unprofessional when Trump was on record strongly praising Comey for that behavior is a Mobius strip of pure fuckery.

I don’t think Comey was necessarily trying to have her lose, but hobble her and signal to people that the men would be in charge. I don’t think anyone actually thought she would lose.

Don’t remember anything different about the German McDs. I don’t go to places I can get at home abroad. That said, I was a regular at the Irish fast food place that McDonalds just lost to. Supermacs ain’t bad for a quick bite after a night in the pub.

I was in Kumamoto, it was the 10th day of my trip to Japan and I went for a Quarter Pounder and fries because I just wanted something familiar and not quite as salty. I loved Japan, but the next trip I’m eating more (non-salty) vegetables because the quantities of salt in the meals made my calves swell up scarily. I did like the fried lotus root and the venison (different meals) a lot. /must stop thinking about Japan and Japanese food

If I understand you correctly, you want grub automatically to provide that setting whenever someone installs Linux. IOW a custom “flavor” of Linux. If so, you’ve got me there. You could try posting a query on the usual boards.

Since kosher doesn’t allow mixing meat and dairy, I can’t eat a cheeseburger. I was browsing the vegan “dairy” cooler at Whole Foods but the vegan cheese was full of all kinds of stuff that was not recognizable as “food” so I wasn’t inspired to sample it.

The vegan burgers made from various combinations of beans and mushrooms are more appetizing imo.

If you haven’t already, try the walnut based veggie burgers. As a confirmed carnivore, I’ll eat them anytime. Since they aren’t beef a bit of cheese does go nice with them too, especially swiss.

Try living in Brunswick Georgia, why is the site of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (trains all Federal LE *except* the FBI).

You see the fed clones everywhere. Short cropped hair or bald. Short mustache. Mirror aviator classes. White.

Even weirder is when you get a notification that you were the subject of a practice monitoring exercise where a fed trainee tailed you for a week. Yeah, good times.
