Donald Trump and Candace Owens Cited as Inspiration for Horrific New Zealand Terror Attack

World • Views: 46,247

Donald Trump has now inspired another mass murderer to commit horrible crimes, against the people our shameful president demonizes relentlessly.

Another mass murderer. It’s so far beyond disgraceful at this point. This will be Trump’s legacy: hatred and murder.

Don’t let anyone tell you we shouldn’t “politicize” this situation. It’s already politicized, by the most vile and disgusting person ever to occupy the White House. Donald Trump’s hands are covered in blood.

A mass shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday has left an astonishing total of 49 people dead, according to The Associated Press. The shooting was carried out by at least one gunman who posted on online “manifesto” stating white supremacist viewpoints and naming prominent Donald Trump supporter and right-wing American media personality Candace Owens as the person who most inspired him to commit acts of violence.

He also praised Trump himself “as a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose.”

I saw a Tweet, I think, that said unless you understand the internet trolling culture that one shouldn’t comment on this manifesto. I’ve read the clipped parts about Owens and it’s clear that it’s a trolling meme meant to sow discord. In this case, I do think it’s unfair to drag that wretched person’s name into this conversation. There’s a lot more to drag her through the mud about and not try to pin this with her.

Someone else will need to bring it over, but there have been warnings to dig through the manifesto to determine what is real and what is repeating a lot of memes in order to incite fighting amoung the two sides that really has nothing to do with his ideology. His hatred of muslims is real. He’s mentioning of Owens seems to be an attempt to get people arguing with each other rather than about what he’s done.

The shooting happened one day after Trump talking about the “tough people” on his side not playing it “tough” enough.

My approach here, especially when it comes to the channer crowd, remains ‘the more you do something ‘ironically’, the less ironic it becomes’. Even if the choice of shout-outs isn’t genuine, it is most likely telling.

And Candece still did say that the Nazis were fine until they invaded Poland. If she still doesn’t see what the hell is wrong with that kind of rhetoric, she’s either a fascist or woefully uneducated to be talking about anything on politics IMO.

He’s the AOC of the moment.

The big thing with Beto is that he is inexperienced and whoever is behind this push (I’m not willing to say it’s only Republicans) is hoping to bait him into making a mistake that derails his campaign.

Fortunately, Beto is smart and I’m hoping was prepared for something like this.

Yup. Seems so. And the articles are curious given the lack of curiosity when Trump ran - there was a dearth of stories about Trump’s scams, his bankruptcies, and lack of knowledge about basic governance. The media rather focused on empty podiums than drill deeper on Trump’s decades-long racism and bigotry.

Now, they’re going after Beto (and others coming up).

At same time, we do want all the candidates examined closely so as to avoid another Trump.

I realize it appears to be merely an overhyped PR exercise/lawyers’-grift, but (even assuming someone is willing to finance this folly as far up the judicial ladder as it can go), what is the likelihood of it ever returning him anything? Other than more undeserved exposure?

It is an undeniable fact that the entire Right, beginning with the GOP and Fox News, promotes the replacement conspiracy theory the Nazis were chanting about in Charlottesville. Disaffected whites are then easily sucked deeper an deeper into extremism through video links on Youtube and other social media. Eventually, some of them turn into terrorists slaughtering people in Mosques and Synagogues. Here, from the prior thread to make sure that everyone has a chance to see it is seven minutes (if you can stomach watching that long) of Laura Ingraham promoting the replacement conspiracy theory, in which she all but chants the 14 words. huffpost.com

A quote about Beto running for office from dailykos.com:

But what caught my attention immediately was something that he said in the portion of the speech that was aired yesterday on MSNBC. He quipped that “There were 13 candidates in the race right now, and no, he probably couldn’t name them all off the top of his head right now,” which evoked honest laughter. But it was what came immediately afterwards that jolted me. He said something like, “And it really doesn’t matter, because any one of them is far superior to who we have in the White House right now. It doesn’t really matter which one of us you like the most right now, what’s most important is that whomever the eventual candidate is, that we all rally around that candidate, because that’s the only way that we can win in 2020.”

Think about that for a minute. On his first day on the campaign trail, not only is Beto O’Rourke acknowledging the simple fact that he may not win, he’s already swearing loyalty to the one that does. And he’s actively planting that seed in the minds of anybody who hears him, regardless of which candidate they currently back and support. And that message is, “Be passionate for the candidate of your choice. But when this is all over, put that passion behind whichever candidate wins the nomination, because that’s the only way we can beat Trump. And Beto O’Rourke is exactly the kind of hopeful, youthful, energizing candidate that these people fell in love with in 2008 and 2012.

Reporter: Did you hear what Rush said?
Candidate: Rush? No, I never really listened to Rush, I preferred Led Zepplin.
Reporter: No, Rush Limbaugh?
Candidate: Name sounds familiar, wasn’t he a lineman for the Eagles in the 80s?

I think Mayor Pete could too. Mayor Pete is in fact younger than Limbaugh’s infamous “White House Dog”, Chelsea Clinton. But yeah I’d like Rush to fade into obscurity and be forced to take the kind of menial job that he belittles to his listeners.

I also think the Democratic Party should be courting small business owners and understanding their concerns too. I’m skeptical towards corporations but small business owners should be a group that we include in our coalition.

There’s a lot of diversity among small business owners - and depending on how you define “small” their interests might not always align. There’s a big difference between having three employees and thirty employees.

But I do tend to agree with you. I also think we should make it easier for people to start and build businesses - and there’s an argument that Medicare for All or at least a public option, would help on that front because it would allow people to keep insurance while they chase their dream.

“We are determined to protect the American and allied military and civilian personnel from living in fear of unjust prosecution for actions taken to defend our great nation,” Pompeo said.

He said any wrongdoing committed by American personnel would be dealt with in U.S. military and criminal courts.

The visa restrictions would apply to any ICC employee who takes or has taken action “to request or further such an investigation,” Pompeo said.

“These visa restrictions may also be used to deter ICC efforts to pursue allied personnel, including Israelis, without allies’ consent,” he said.

The ICC prosecutor has a pending request to look into possible war crimes in Afghanistan that may involve Americans. The Palestinians have also asked the court to bring cases against Israel.

Yes. I’m pretty frustrated that a lot of lefties fall for this “economic anxiety” bs. It’s not. Trump did better than Clinton among people whose economic lot had improved since 2008. Brexit was more popular in prosperous areas than staying in the EU. And you know what? We do ourselves no favors when we act like the people in those areas had a “right” to feel resentful. They didn’t. Their resentments were their own prejudices. And truthfully even if we do fix class economic problems, we still got other problems that a certain candidate think are just a “distraction.”

The copy protection hacks were fun. One of the floppy disk tricks was to put a piece of sticky tape on the disk sleeve that stuck out of the drive, then when the boot program tried to read the bad sectors on the disk (the copy protection trick), you’d pull on the tape to cause the drive’s read/write head to sort of skew, and that generated the same kind of disk error and let you copy the disk.

One small quibble is that Republicans have been whining about so-called socialism for far longer than AOC’s voting-age life.

One way or another they have been doing it for at least a century.

I think she agrees but was just pointing that it’s all she’s known as a voter. I definitely lost a lot of respect for McCain when he called Obama a socialist for supporting taxes on the wealthiest 1%.

Admitting states won’t be a solution because it’s too late to push that through. Democrats are going to have to win in the smaller states.

Splitting large states and merging small states is a possibility, but highly unlikely as it requires federal and local approval to happen. Also, there’s rarely political will for that.

This is the insanity that Hoft is spreading - an OANN nutter:

That’s $266 million out of the pockets of the people being smuggled. That’s not money costing Americans a dime. These are people so desperate to come to the US that they’re willing to do anything.

Why do they want to come here? Because Trump and right wing dirtbags want to shit all over them and treat them like second class citizens.

No, the reason why is because they believe in the best of the US and of us, and are coming here to better their lives and those of their children. They’re coming to escape depravity and persecution and failed states like Venezuela. They’re coming and seeking asylum is legal immigration.

Immigration is what made the US what it is today (including forced immigration aka slavery), and there’s always been bigots who seek to stop anyone who didn’t look or sound like them to come after the prior wave of immigrants (like trying to keep Asians out, Irish, Eastern Europeans, Jews, etc.).

A good piece, but I think Serwer condenses the concept a bit: Myself, I think the case is more that “White Supremacy”, then as now, is more of a pan-national/supra-national movement: that the high-minded intellectualization of racism (and its introduction into countries’ immigration/citizenship legal systems) which began in the late 19th Century wasn’t so much a matter of one country “inspiring” another, but of all the racially-based enactments stemming from a single pool of sources: each nation adopting whatever principles they thought would fly with the (white) citizenry.

Whiteness exists to scam most “whites” by giving them symbolic victories and tiny material gains temporarily, while they do the heavy lifting of fucking over the non-whites…but in the end-game those “whites” will be cut out of real gains and ruled undeserving if they push for it.

This is why the largest governmental implementation of white fascism ended with the Nero Order. This is why white fascist groups have no internal loyalty. They were told the same story that every descendant of white immigrants was: “Your family came over in the perfectly legal fashion and became Americans, which is why you’re so much better than all those ignorant and filthy foreigners who want to come here and take our jobs and tax dollars.”

I am certain they probably got that narrative. That’s the thing with white America. We’re convinced self-righteously that ours did it right. Thankfully there are genealogists out there that are happy to show people like Tomi Lahren, Donald Trump, and to a smaller extent John Kelly (I won’t fault his grandfather for onlt speaking Italian after being in the country a long time as it’s not a crime like waht Lahren and Trump’s ancestors did.).

Genealogy is an expensive hobby lol. That said, maybe the fact that they don’t know the full truth should make them less judgmental. I wagerto say that I’ve probably researched my direct line than most Americans and you know what, I still can’t find the emigration records for all my direct line. And even if I have, I have no idea if they were all strictly law abiding in the US. Odds are they probably were but you never know.

I tell ya the worst are those who are aware of the crap their ancestors endured but twist to insist it was worse than slavery. The actual Irish people I know despise Americans of Irish descent making the Irish-American experience out to be worse than chattel slavery. My Irish historian buddy puts it this way “Our history is already tragic, you’ve got no right to lie and make it more tragic but putting down other people’s histories to suit your own narrative.”

We’re talking about people for whom the accepted method of tracing lineage was the family Bible or baptismal records at their local church. Hence why they’re always shocked when they find out that they’ve relatives in a whole ‘nother state because their granddaddy “sewed his wild oats” in his youth and then came home to marry his high school sweetheart to whom he’d been totally “faithful.”

So, the House is in recess next week. I wonder how many Republican district offices are going to see protests/demonstrations in support of overriding the veto? And if that’ll change anything.

I hate to say it, but even if there are any demonstrations at Republicans’ offices, it’s probably likely that the Reps (not wanting any repeats of the Obamacare flaps) will make themselves scarce.

Either that, or make sure that any “protests” are carefully-scripted MAGA rallies.

Their heritage being meaningless since European history is not White history…

…but they know that.

They pick the “good” stuff from the history of Europe, label it “white” and form an identity where they get derivative credit…some kind of trophy for participation, if you will…and ignore any nuance.

In raciallized history “whites” gets to take credit for everything bad but aren’t responsible for anything that went wrong.

This scam includes celebrating the good bits of people that weren’t “white” were specifically attacked or persecuted as “non-white.”

It’s not about describing reality or even being consistent.

Hell though I take that back about my ancestors being law abiding. I remember my grandfather telling us his father bootlegged during prohibition. I doubt he made a big profit but he was likely violating the Volstead Act when he was still an Alien. And yet Grandpa and while I loved him dearly still was a bit judgmental towards illegal immigrants. I thik the problem is so many native Americans have no idea what immigration is like these days for people. It’s more pricey and timely. My grandfather’s parents emigrated in 1910. By the end of that decade, Great Grandpa had already put in his papers and he was a citizen in the early 20’s.

I like to think of it being like the Boomers and Gen Xers who look at our generation and think we’re a bunch of “lazy pricks” because we don’t “find a job.” The ones who still think the method of getting a job is going down to the local hardware store and asking to speak to the manager. Or calling the same shop constantly and inquiring if they’ve had time to look at your application, in an era where unless they’re a small-time mom-and-pop operation they have to wait for the digital application to land on their desk from corporate HR.

Here’s another thing and this is why I find it so angering as a so called white ethnic when white supremacists tell white people that we should ban together. Their ideological ancestors were the same people like the Grant in Serwer’s article insisting we’d never integrate. Well assholes, my grandparents’ brothers served in WWII and my grandmother’s big sister was a secretary for the War Department. My one uncle enlisted when Lindburgh was in Des Moines spreading Pro-Axis propaganda. So no I’m not going to stick with you because our skin tones are close. I’ll stick with people who share my values and some of them come from vastly different places than my family did but you know what that’s okay because the people who are why I am me did too.

See, that’s the difference between you, I, and them. You and I would agree that the current system is a total clusterfuck and needs major reform to make it easier to immigrate legally to these shores.

To them, that’s actually the opposite of what they really want, because easier immigration means more of “those people” that they want to keep out. No, what they really want when they talk “reform” is a system that streamlines the system for people like them, while “those people” are face greater obstacles or are simply told to fuck off.

For example, the article tries to use the fact that the shooter supports unions as evidence that he’s a “liberal.” Thing is, that doesn’t prove anything because conservatives used to love unions…until they realized they couldn’t restrict union membership to those with skin tones lighter than a paper bag. Then suddenly unions became the enemy of the “right to work.”

And then she goes in, takes one piece of kibble, comes back out again to crunch it up, then goes back in for more, comes out again to crunch…

All the while, Rango quietly whines in a surprisingly high pitch.

By that metric, I was also a “hacker” in the early 90s. The sort of thing I was doing with demo screens on the Atari ST- removing the borders on the display, displaying more than the standard colour palette using interrupts, playing samples on a sound chip designed for chip music- were all about circumventing the limitations of the hardware using undocumented techniques.

Quite a lot of this was learned by looking at other demo coders code. Which often entailed hacking their demos- and their protection was often more fearsome than on commercial programs.

The Union Demo in particular is infamous for having it’s own special disk format which could not be copied by the common disk copy programs of the day- it could only be copied by it’s own in-demo disk copier.

I don’t agree with that obvoiusly but it was refreshing to see an American conservative admit that he probably would have sided with the crown because honestly a lot of them would have. Conservatives love to insist the Founders weren’t liberals and yeah I admit it, they weren’t especially in the modern sense but by 1770’s standards? Talking about replacing colonial rule with independent democratic government without the king? That’s down right radical.

If Dark were born and raised Southern, or, at the very least, Virginian, he would’ve spent his time here defending Lost Cause revisionism and romanticizing Robert E. Lee. His reverent ancestor-worship and regard for “honor” would have demanded it of him. And he would’ve posted “Dixie” as his permanent response to transplanted Yankees rather than “Marching through Georgia” as his mocking response to Neo-Confederates.

re: #315 Targetpractice

You always have to marvel at the dance moves that go into arguing that a white shooter is a “liberal” who is totally not part of the far-right…but he has “legitimate” beefs that “liberals” should listen to and accept because they’re what the far-right have been preaching.

But they have practiced that dance for a long long time, so the moves are easy to pull off. Like all practice, if you do it long enough it becomes natural.

re: #254 Jay C

A good piece, but I think Serwer condenses the concept a bit: Myself, I think the case is more that “White Supremacy”, then as now, is more of a pan-national/supra-national movement: that the high-minded intellectualization of racism (and its introduction into countries’ immigration/citizenship legal systems) which began in the late 19th Century wasn’t so much a matter of one country “inspiring” another, but of all the racially-based enactments stemming from a single pool of sources: each nation adopting whatever principles they thought would fly with the (white) citizenry.

This is absolutely true. You can’t account for WWI if you follow my summary of the article. It wasn’t so much inspiration as “hey, that’s what we’ve been saying and the ‘shining beacon on a hill’ does it legally.” Anti-semitism goes back centuries in Europe, so it’s fair to say that the Europeans who founded our country planted the seeds here, too. But it’s still a good article.

Well, to own the Right, really. I mean, if it’s a False Flag and all.

But, yeah. Killing 49 people you consider blameless, risking being shot yourself by police responding to the shooting, making yourself a symbol of what you hate, to the entire world for the rest of your life and beyond, and all to make the Right “look bad”.

If you have to be crazy to go out and kill 49 brown people that you, as a white supremacist, see as invaders and a threat, how much crazier do you have to be to kill 49 people you see as blameless refugees seeking a better life, just to make people think that white supremacists are bad people?

Pretty amazing, because the cop said that before he arrested Gates he KNEW it was Gates’s house, and all those white people were disappointed that Obama didn’t side with the cop.

Hitler did this for the army’s (Wehrmacht) support. Thus clearing the only force able to stand up to him by 1934.
