HOUSTON—Former Enron Corp. Chief Executive and felon Jeffrey Skilling is looking to get back into the energy business after serving more than 12 years in prison for his role in one of the biggest corporate scandals in history.

Just weeks after being released from federal custody following his 2006 conviction on fraud, conspiracy and insider-trading charges, Mr. Skilling has been holding meetings with former Enron executives and others, hoping to win backing for a new energy venture, people familiar with the matter said.

The exact nature of the project is something of a mystery, with the people briefed saying it was at an early stage. Some of those who have met with Mr. Skilling have signed nondisclosure agreements, the people said. Several described it as a digital platform connecting investors to oil and gas projects.

Mr. Skilling has met with individuals who specialize in cryptocurrency, blockchain and software development in recent weeks, two of the people said.

Keep in mind that the ships have to report every outbreak of noro (defined as 2% of the ship’s complement) and your home town doesn’t. Also, I’ve walked off every cruise ship I’ve set foot on.

I was seasick on a Whale Watching cruise, just off the Marin coast. I felt so bad, I actually thought if the boat sank, it would be okay with me. I could try swimming to shore - except it was all rocky cliffs - but if I didn’t make it, at least I wouldn’t be feeling like that anymore.

This is apparently not an uncommon thought among those afflicted.

been a scuba diver and instructor more than 20 years
i get seasick all the time - in dead flat calm water

one time the boat was rocking and rolling and i was sick getting into my gear (happens a lot). get in the water! that’s the goal

descended past 20 feet and it calmed down
the dive was to more than 100 feet so it was a short one

i remember returning to the anchor line to ascend and for a moment said to myself i could just stay here, be very happy and not care…

A black man who maybe once possessed a little weed as a teenager would have been:

- imprisoned for longer
- have no prospect for any employment at all once released
- be disenfranchised for life

This man, who defrauded people for more money than that black man’s family will see in generations, will walk back into a high-paying job and suffer no consequences even if he commits further crimes.

But unless someone calls that black man a ‘n*****’, America doesn’t think this is racism.

re: #41 Blind Frog Belly White

I was seasick on a Whale Watching cruise, just off the Marin coast. I felt so bad, I actually thought if the boat sank, it would be okay with me. I could try swimming to shore - except it was all rocky cliffs - but if I didn’t make it, at least I wouldn’t be feeling like that anymore.

This is apparently not an uncommon thought among those afflicted.

I was in Hawaii and went on a deep sea fishing trip where I spent six hours puking. First over the side but the captain thought I was going to fall out so he gave me a bucket. Diesel and waves in the open ocean makes for a shitty tour.

There was a guy on the tour who was the same as me (sick for hours) but when we got back in the harbor he jumped up on the bow holding something akin to a mast and was like all Joe Sailor. I kept thinking, dude, you, like me, spent the last several hours ralphing like nobody’s business.

No more ocean Waters for me. Nope. No siree.

Could you just use an OCR scanning package? I think it is a service offered at kinko’s, if you don’t have one available.

While I love OCR, its accuracy does still leave a bit to be desired. Unless they also throw in corrections, it’d probably be as worth it to find a good typing service.

She’s considered “fat” because she’s 130 pounds and 5’8”, and Korean beauty standards expect women of any height to be around 105 lbs.

Meet The Controversial Winner of Miss Korea 2018 | ASIAN BOSS

Another Asian woman who is fighting against body-shaming is Mia Kang of Hong Kong, a former skinny-as-a-rail fashion model who finally said fuck it and started eating in a healthy way and training in muay thai. She now models in her normal size, including for Sports Illustrated.

From her Instagram:

Mia Kang, then and now

I have female students here in China who at 100 lbs tops still say they are trying to lose weight. I just shake my head in amazement.

No, actually, that is enraging! Absolutely infuriating. That human worth could come down to that. And I will bet you any money that (most of) the assholes that are belittling those woman are overweight men.

(There may be some pressure from Asian women who are applying a double standard; I don’t know.)

- “Democrats need to accept the results of the report, as they said that they supported Mueller and his investigation, and so continuing to investigate [Trump] would mean contradicting Mueller’s conclusions.”

- “‘Everybody’ agreed that the Clinton investigation was ‘mishandled,’ so it’s totally not hypocritical of Republicans to demand Democrats end all their investigations into [Trump] now while continuing to demand further investigations into the Clintons.”

He’s claiming that Hitler only wanted to kick the Jews out, it was Grand Mufti al-Husseini who pressed for extermination because he did not want Europe’s Jews to migrate to Palestine. It’s a twisted version of an assertion that fringe researchers have made over the years that it was his refusal to allow Jews to move to Palestine that left Hitler with “no choice” but to pursue the “Final Solution.”

He’s brought it up before, back in 2012, for pretty much the same reason: Stoking hatred of Palestinians to shore up his political position.

I happen to think Warren is better in the Senate, but this infuriates me, a white male:

Warren is bursting with what we might call “charisma” in male candidates: She has the folksy demeanor of Joe Biden, the ferocious conviction of Bernie Sanders, the deep intelligence of fellow law professor Barack Obama. But Warren is not a man, and so those traits are framed as liabilities, rather than strengths. According to the media, Warren is an uptight schoolmarm, a “wonky professor,” a scold, a wimpy Dukakis, a wooden John Kerry, or (worse) a nerdier Al Gore.

The criticism has hit her from the left and right. The far-right Daily Caller accused her of looking weird when she drank beer; on social media, conservatives spread vicious (and viciously ableist) rumors that Warren took antipsychotic drugs that treated “irritability caused by autism.” On the other end of the spectrum, Amber A’Lee Frost, the lone female co-host of the socialist podcast Chapo Trap House, wrote for The Baffler (and, when The Baffler retracted her article, for Jacobin) that Warren was “weak” and “not charismatic.” Frost deplored the “Type-A Tracy Flicks” who dared support “this Lisa Simpson of a dark-horse candidate.”…

There’s an element of gaslighting here: It only takes a reporter a few sources — and an op-ed columnist a single, fleeting judgment — to declare a candidate “unlikable.” After that label has been applied, any effort the candidate makes to win people over can be cast as “inauthentic.” Likability is in this way a self-reinforcing accusation, one which is amplified every time the candidate tries to tackle it. (Recall Hillary Clinton, who was asked about her “likability” at seemingly every debate or town hall for eight straight years — then furiously accused of pandering every time she made an effort to seem more “approachable.”)…

Warren is cast as a bloodless intellectual when she focuses on policy, a scolding lecturer when she leans into her skills as a rabble-rouser; either way, her intelligence is always too much and out of place. Her eloquence is framed, not as inspiring, but as “angry” and “hectoring.” Being an effective orator makes her “strident.” It’s not solely confined to the media, but reporters seem anxious to signal-boost anyone who complains: Anonymous male colleagues call her “irritating,” telling Vanity Fair that “she projects a ‘holier than thou’ attitude” and that “she has a moralizing to her.” That same quality in male candidates is hailed as moral clarity.

Warren is accused, in plain language, of being uppity — a woman who has the bad grace to be smarter than the men around her, without downplaying it to assuage their egos. But running in a presidential race is all about proving that you are smarter than the other guy. By demanding that Warren disguise her exceptional talents, we are asking her to lose. Thankfully, she’s not listening. She is a smart woman, after all.

And what if Mueller’s report finds that Trump did in fact obstruct and interfere with the investigation? I’m so sick of being told that I need to accept this and that when Trump still hasn’t even acknowledged that the Russians interfered. I can concede that Mueller may not have found evidence of Trump asking the Russians to interfere on his behalf. Trump doesn’t get to trash the investigation non stop and lie about it and get off totally scot-free. This hot take sucks big time.

Also, that Hitler didn’t want to exterminate the Jews is also a narrative among the Holocaust denying contingent of the alt-right world-wide. Which is more than a little concerning as my view on Holocaust denial is that it is not not as much about the “researchers” and that conspiracy theory’s believers not wanting to face reality, but to sow doubt enough to be able to grab power again, at least for the upper echelons.

One of my favorite ways to fuck with a fundies mind is to say that the rapture happened in 1033 and that we’re coming up on the end of the 1000 years of tribulation and that everyone on earth is already damned. I don’t believe a word of it but if they do, it’s a guaranteed mind fuck for them based on their end times heresies.

Heh that just gets me to the Enders. People have been saying the world’s going to end for much of recorded history. Why is their “prophecy” more special than others who were just as faithful who came before them. They were saying that Obama’s election and presidency meant the end of the world and I guarantee they’ll have some bullshit about why Dem Nominee 2020 is doing Satan’s bidding to end the world through SOCIALISM or some crap like that.

I woke up on the early side this morning to take my wife to the train station, so she can join some friends running around Brooklyn for the day. As we pulled out of the driveway, she said ‘Where is that water coming from?’ Upon closer inspection, it looks as though the water main is damaged, and water is bubbling up from the curb right at the end of our driveway.

Water Authority has been called, and I fully expect that they’re gonna roll a backhoe up and dig up my driveway either today or tomorrow. Lucky for me that I don’t have to go anywhere for the next couple of days, but I get the feeling they’re going to tell me to park the cars out in the street…

re: #238 PhillyPretzel

No, but IIRC, this petition was placed on a official Parliament site, and by some by-law or other, petitions with more than a certain number of valid signatures (100K? 500K?) must be put up for consideration in the HoC.

But then, given the imbecilic shambles the Tory Government has made of the whole Brexit mess, it’s an open question if they will follow their own rules or not. However many millions of citizens demand it.

And via Daily Kos: a vast number of Britons turned out in London today to protest the Brexit shambles and call for a second (binding) referendum. Police there apparently don’t release crowd estimates, but “hundreds of thousands” is the reasonable guess (on the low end).

re: #233 Joe Bacon 🌹

Actually, I’m rooting for the Rapture to take them. Think about society once they’ve left: federally funded Reproductive Choice, gay people with rights and are being left alone, religious diversity no problem anymore. A lot of states would turn purple just because the remaining right would just not be enough to hold back progress. Even Christianity would be more moderate just because of no more pressures from the crazy faschist side of the religion. More ritual and better social policies for all, more community.

As for HItler not wanting to kill Jews: he had every opportunity to at least suspend the Holocaust during the war. Any excuse would have done and been believed: we need the extra materials for war, we’ll just work them to death (they tried that to some extent), there’s no rush-lets wait until we could do so at leisure once we win, bigger and better later. The fact that he didn’t even try for a fig leaf here shows his real intentions. Sure, he would have moved them away to somewhere else for a time, but his killing intentions would have just manifested later in some fashion.

I”ve never understood the logic behind Holocaust denial: if you are a Nazi, why not just acknowledge it happened, and somehow come up with some “reformed” version that says we learned our lesson and we won’t go that way again? I know it’s less plausible than BigFoot, but I fear that enough people would have/would buy into it enough to make these guys at least a minor factor.

The guy from the water authority was just here, and he confirmed that the water main was cracked and leaking. He said the mains in our neighborhood run under the road, so they’d probably dig a 3’ x 3’ hole in order to get to it.

We do have Belgian block edging the end of our driveway, and I suspect that’ll take a hit. But the crews around here usually do pretty good work - one of the perks of paying high taxes. We’ll probably have to lay out to get the Belgian block put back in, though.

We had recurring water pressure problems here for months, until a couple of weeks ago, when the water pressure went to zero for anyone living higher than the third floor in the whole neighborhood. Finally, there were enough angry people to convince the city and the water company to work together (amazingly hard to make happen even in a nominally communist country) and fix the leaking water main creating the problem.

Zooming in on Star Cluster Terzan 5

NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day: Zooming in on Star Cluster Terzan 5

Explanation: Globular clusters once ruled the Milky Way. Back in the old days, back when our Galaxy first formed, perhaps thousands of globular clusters roamed our Galaxy. Today, there are less than 200 left. Over the eons, many globular clusters were destroyed by repeated fateful encounters with each other or the Galactic center. Surviving relics are older than any Earth fossil, older than any other structures in our Galaxy, and limit the universe itself in raw age. There are few, if any, young globular clusters in our Milky Way Galaxy because conditions are not ripe for more to form. The featured video shows what it might look like to go from the Earth to the globular cluster Terzan 5, ending with a picture of the cluster taken with the Hubble Space Telescope. This star cluster has been found to contain not only stars formed in the early days of our Milky Way Galaxy, but also, quite surprisingly, others that formed in a separate burst of star formation about 7 billion years later.

Why would Gym Jordan worry about Trump’s payoffs for affairs before he became president?

Gymmy has time limits. Like when he decided what he may have known about abuses when he was on the Ohio State University wrestling team was too long ago to care about now.

And if you wonder why Gym Jordan can be how he is and keep his seat, the answer is he is just like a lot of the people in his district. Haters of anything of color and considered new. It all scares them, yet none of them are touched by any of it.

Dre pretty clearly referenced the scandal when he said:

“My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!”

And $70 million goes a long way. Jared’s dad only donated $2.5 million if I recall correctly. His daughter may well have deserved to get in, if he had just congratulated her without taking the dig at others I doubt it would have been a story.

The fact remains that you don’t have to make a significant contribution the year that your offspring applies to the university — a 70 million dollar contribution in the past 20 years would probably be sufficient. The daughter may have been qualified — a good portion of the applicants who are rejected are also highly qualified — the 70 million may just guarantee entrance for someone who meets their standards but would have been declined because there were others who were superior in some way

I’m up early for work tomorrow, so I’mma have to call it a day, but before I go, I saw this story floating around:

Two Russian air force planes landed in Venezuela’s main airport on Saturday carrying a Russian defense official and nearly 100 troops, according to a local journalist, amid strengthening ties between Caracas and Moscow.

A flight-tracking website showed that two planes left from a Russian military airport bound for Caracas on Friday, and another flight-tracking site showed that one plane left Caracas on Sunday.

The report comes three months after the two nations held military exercises on Venezuelan soil that President Nicolas Maduro called a sign of strengthening relations, but which Washington criticized as Russian encroachment in the region.

Reporter Javier Mayorca wrote on Twitter on Saturday that the first plane carried Vasily Tonkoshkurov, chief of staff of the ground forces, adding that the second was a cargo plane carrying 35 tonnes of material.

An Ilyushin IL-62 passenger jet and an Antonov AN-124 military cargo plane left for Caracas on Friday from Russian military airport Chkalovsky, stopping along the way in Syria, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24.

Curious. Perhaps Putin is taking some measures, albeit small-scale, to shore up Maduro.

Certainly I could see Trump resigning if the deal was he would keep all his misbegotten gains — but until the entire report is officially released (with the few redactions necessary for intelligence purposes), it’s idle to speculate on what it contains — although it’s fun and does provide news channels something to occupy their time

Considering the lack of further indictments, I rather think the best we might hope for at this point is the Mueller report to say that there’s enough to sustain a criminal indictment, but existing DOJ policy prevents that from happening. Next down the list would be “unindicted co-conspirator,” i.e. Donny wasn’t directly involved but he knows so much that he might as well have been the mastermind. Beyond those two conclusion, everything else is just “It looks bad, but it’s not criminal.”

taint over, while the media is going to report this the way that we expected to report this, this full report will be going to Congress where Dems have the power of subpoena and this will continue…

tbh, I expected this, and while I had hopes that the findings would be so conclusive that Mueller would have no choice but to indict every fucking body, he doesn’t have any drawings of Trump and Putin passing intel via a note that he has somehow obtained by legal methods that show what took place conclusively.

This will continue to be a case of making connections and showing likely events based on the already observable outcomes. These guys may feel safe for the moment, but the gears are turning in other jurisdictions and namely my own feeling is that these fuckers are not smart enough to have tied up every loose thread that exists because imho Putin, DJT is most likely a burnable asset as far as Putin is concerned and the same is true of Senator McConnell. He’ll gladly use them as far as he can ride them but when the final worm turns, he’ll burn them to create even more outrage and discord.

Fundamental to the problem is again, in this day if one can’t hit the ground running and finish the race in 144 characters or less, then you lose. Or at least you don’t “win”.

All told, Trump is bad by any metric that a serious student of history may want to use.

So, the guy who was picked to replace the guy who was fired for not being loyal enough to Trump as Attorney General got to write a summary of a report about his boss. That letter amounts to nothing. Either we see the full report or I keep concluding that all of the indictments of Cohen, Manafort and others means Trump was working with Russia to influence the election.

473
Targetpractice  Mar 24, 2019 • 1:41:47pm

Here’s one way to look at things: It has not even been a full hour since the letter was made public. The press has not even begun to have time to parse it, to look into it, and to start questioning people beyond the initial responses. There is so much that can be done with just this letter alone that to conclude that comments made on a Sunday afternoon in the midst of March Madness will be what carries the day all the way to next November.

So let’s keep things in context, PLEASE!

Think about the things that House Dems can do just based upon the events of the past 48 hours.

They can now call Mueller to testify in an open session about his report because he is no longer bound to secrecy about an ongoing investigation.

Barr and Rosenstein can be drug before the House to explain how they came to their conclusions about the report and why they are stalling the full release.

And the biggest thing is the push to make the full report public, something that the GOP is going to have a hard time pressing against now that they’re running around screaming “WE WON! HE’S TOTALLY IN THE CLEAR! MUELLER SAID SO!”

Regardless of what is stated in the report, the right was going to scream something, something, innocent. The barrier to entry for a conclusion of obstruction is high; courts look at facts histoplasmosis laughing) and there is probably mor3 than enough plausible deniability that the orange shit-goblin wasn’t going to be criminally anything.

More important is that the Overton window on acceptable president behavior has shifted, yet again, towards the dichotomy of our political system being the driving factor in what is correct behaviour.

There is more happening out there in the legal realm; cheetohlini will continue for the next two years, other people may get in trouble he may have some state level shit hit him. Depending on what happens in the next election, societal norms will start to have a chance to resume, or we’re fucked as a country, re: standing and social progress. By Jan 2021 Trump and his Republican allies in the Senate will have transformed the US courts into right wing courts.

By Jan 2021 Trump and his Republican allies in Congress will have ballooned the total debt so much that the only way out is significantly cheapening the dollar.

By Jan 2021 Trump and his Republican allies everywhere will have significantly outlawed abortion.

You get the picture.

All the topics I raised are well underway.

The point is, the problem is now, not in the future.

I’m not so much doom and gloom over the Mueller thing - it was never going to be what some in the alt-left wanted it to be.

But I am very certain by looking at how US media are handling today’s letter that our for-profit media really do like Trump for what he does to their bottom line.

Very much agree there. Since late 2016. Saw it coming, did not see the damage it could and would continue to do.

No. We largely suspected this was going happen when Barr was announced.

re: #473 Targetpractice

Here’s one way to look at things: It has not even been a full hour since the letter was made public. The press has not even begun to have time to parse it, to look into it, and to start questioning people beyond the initial responses. There is so much that can be done with just this letter alone that to conclude that comments made on a Sunday afternoon in the midst of March Madness will be what carries the day all the way to next November.

So let’s keep things in context, PLEASE!

Context used to mean the state of the actual facts of a situation.

Context now means the state of mind and the impression of the facts of a situation.

As far as facts, I have one question right off.

Barr says Trump and his campaign did not conspire with the Russian government.

Okay, just for giggles, what if it was other Russians not associated with the government directly. Say all those oligarch (Russian mob) types and ex-friends of one Paul Manafort?

Barr did not say Mueller made other connections not directly Russian government but beneficial to Trump because of those ‘disconnected’ connections were middle men.

What if all of the stuff in that report is a stack of bad that Trump and gang dealt with all kinds of shady characters but it was too hard to make the ties for regular crime charges to them?

What if no collusion with the Russian government is simply that. The Russian Government. Think how easy that is to say, and write.

At that point would the Mueller report say that directly or is that to be determined from the facts and evidence collected that we don’t see? And Barr made that distinction.

Barr could easily pounce on the no collusion with the Russians (Government) yet be hiding the fact it was The Russians (Mob) all along. Or, who knows the actual connections, Mueller may not have found them.

Or how about Ukrainians? They aren’t Russians are they.

I’mma wait for more to come out. I want second critical opinions of the summation of the report, not just Bill Barr’s. Or let’s see the whole thing and go from there.

Of course in the meantime there will be tons of smoke and mirrors. And bitching.

And Bill Barr standing in the way looking like he is doing his job, which is protecting Trump at all costs.

If Mueller’s report is released, and comes out and says that, no matter how many people around him are corrupt, Trump managed to stay above board, his opponent will get my support for ending his corrupt regime, for ending his willingness to upend presidential norms and violate US laws because Republicans won’t hold him accountable.

You know what? I know we were all hoping on Robert Mueller to save us from Trump, but that isn’t why we fight. I’m not going to be a fair-weather patriot. Yeah, it sucks, but guess what? The Trump DOJ was never going to pursue an indictment before Congress, no matter WHAT the Mueller Report had in it. The 2020 election is not a foregone conclusion. It’s not the end, it’s another lost battle, and yes, I know that losing too many battles is called “losing the war”. But that doesn’t mean we stop fighting. If we lose the war, so what? We went down swinging, and history will acquit us well for it. I know that means little to the here and now, and seems like an insignificant reward for a bitterly disappointing fight, but it’s worth it to me.

They were that way last year and we ran the board. They started 2018 convinced that the Tax Cuts were “THE BEST THING EVAH!” and the GOP would win big last November because of it. And yet, we saw more people vote than showed up for 2016 and vote for Dems in greater numbers than Donny lost the popular vote by.

But why pay attention to that when we can just conclude that 2020 will be a rerun of 2016 and thus we’re fucked no matter what we do?

Take time off and heal. We have a big movement, and a long battle. Justice doesn’t come in movie-sized bites. We will be around when you are ready to engage again.

And even if Mueller recommended indictment, it would have been at least two years as lawyers did everything they could do to delay until after the 2020 election in the hopes that the string would somehow run out.

And for those who worry about the Democrats, its abundantly clear the only one they care about is Lord God Trump. Nobody is going to bail out Cohen, Manafort and Butina. Even his kids aren’t going to be bailed out-he doesn’t love them or Melania either. And there’s no political price to be paid for investigations. It’s clear the only people who are going to be offended will be people who would never vote for any Democrats regardless.

What we have to do, with the left hand, while we pursue the bastards with the right, is protect the right to vote. I just saw this. Nancy LeTourneau again, on the Right to Vote, quoting:

In a recent paper, Schraufnagel and two colleagues ranked the 50 states based on ease of voting: Of the 20 states they identified as making it most difficult to vote, Trump carried 17. Hillary Clinton carried 12 of the 20 states where it is easiest to vote.

Yeah, Papadopolous. What to look out for is how Barr and Rosenstein say the report didn’t “find” collusion or conspiracy, whereas the quote directly following says “did not establish”; to me that indicates that they couldn’t meet the extremely high bar necessary for criminality. Barr only got this job because he said that Trump was in the right in firing Comey and Barr’s own history of clearing the Iran Contra folks definitely played a role in him getting this post.

Because nothing can ever discredit a Republican in this country. And the things that should discredit them only make them even more powerful and beloved. Because GOP bad faith is as infinite as the country’s acceptance of it.

I just think we give the GOP way too much credit for getting away with it. Did they not lose the House? Is Trump’s approval not in the toilet? Don’t get me wrong. That Trump won or even got close to winning to me is forever gonna be a stain on the nation but I think 2020 is going to be a rude awakening for him and the Republicans.

So, no different than the last 150 years of US history. And we started with our leaders owning slaves.

I’m sorry. I never hung my hat on this report, especially since the guy it targets is in charge of the people who get to control it. It has landed a number of convictions, there are still more ongoing, and the best Trump’s handler can do is say it doesn’t exonerate Trump. If you did, well, I’m not sure what to say.

The country is exactly the same one it was two hours ago. One where I have three children, two of them gay. One where a whole lot of minorities live in who still deserve to be treated fairly. One where women still deserve to be treated as equal, autonomous individuals. And they will need me and others to continue doing what we have been doing, though not always in a straight line, and that is making this place better.

This country didn’t just suddenly disappear. And I know it’s tiring, but you have to be Bruce Banner in this, always angry, but definitely in control of your rage.

Key to the coming days is Barr made a point in his letter of saying that the decision not to prosecute for obstruction was his and not Mueller’s, based upon his reading of the evidence collected. That’s all the more reason to demand the release of the full report, to judge the evidence and his decision-making process.

Barr also made a point of saying specifically this did not exonerate Trump; which is definitely not what Trump is saying in his public remarks.

My problem isn’t the Dem narrative. That’s been remarkably consistent, well thought out, and prompt as they can manage. The problem seems to be it simply doesn’t matter, because the GOP narrative always ends up superseding it in the media anyway, despite how nonsensical it is, and forcing Dems on the backfoot anyway because their narrative rarely, if ever, gets to be heard to begin with. Just the GOP’s version of what the Dem narrative is.

We’re constantly forced to hope the GOP steps on its own dick just to be heard. And while that thankfully happens all too often, we still seem to be beholden to the incompetence of our opponents, and the public’s acceptance and/or ejection of said incompetence to make any headway. And we’ve seen how flimsy the idea that the public would reject an incompetent GOP out of hand is.

I keep saying it, but I’m just fucking exhausted by it all, and hate the feeling that the most cynical read on anything today ends up being the most correct one because nothing seems to fucking matter except assuaging the country’s love affair with conservative dominance.

But every time, we have found inspiration, and hope, and small victories to keep us going while we seek the big win. We don’t have that big win yet, but if we roll over and die, we have a 0% chance of getting it.

Yep. I will get up and get in the ring again tomorrow.
Today I’m going to let myself indulge in the necessary release valve of whining and venting and cursing to high heaven because our current reality sucks big wet hairy moose whangs. I am sick (ear infection) and tired (chronic lack of sleep) and discouraged and disgusted and terrified (Trump & Republicans). This should bloody not be happening in a sane and just country, and the fact we’re not living in one is a perpetual outrage to my soul.

Tomorrow we fight. Today I whinge about the necessity of doing so. Sufficient unto the day.
phlllllbbbbbbbttttt…

Totally unrelated to the main topic, I rode 33.6 miles today, the longest ride so far this year! Also the most miles in a week at 65.9! If all goes well, I should be able to ride a Metric Century before I turn a metric century old, come November.

Nice day for it, with the sun playing hide-and-seek among the clouds and only light breezes. Everything’s GREEEEEENNNN!!!!! and the wildflowers are starting to bloom.

Poppies….Poppies will put them to sleeep…..

For any of us faith based folks just a friendly reminder that there is a power of justice out there far stronger than Mueller and completely incorruptible.

Eventually, some way, Trump WILL get his.

But it turned up this morning, on the dining room credenza equivalent, of all places it could be.

Yup. The asparagus of the poor.

Never heard leeks called that. And poor or rich, still one of the better of nature’s little green creations (IMO).

OK: minor qualification: I love leeks, myself (and yes, particularly in soups) - but a steady diet of them would probably pall in time (like everything else).

Ah yes, the typical Republicans searching for the truth by limiting who can testify, especially the biggest fucking liar in all of this.

Protected like Kavanaugh.

The party of (limited) law and order.

Fuck ‘em. Democrats have to make this a law and order thing and take back that stance from the Republicans. This next election has to be about defeating a whole nasty political cancer in this country, The Republican National Party.

We’ll see what unfolds but I have never thought it is collusion or obstruction in the Russian investigation that is going to end him. It’s his finances and corrupt, illegal business dealings before and during the election. He never expected to win so he got as much money out as he could. Pigs at the trough.

The cases in the SDNY and the investigation into his tax returns are where the fire is. In my opinion.

However, when it comes to Croce, fight me bro.

Helen Reddy was such a babe, though—with a wonderful set of pipes. Second only to Karen Carpenter as wanting to just dive into her tonsils and disappear from view.
