I’ve been off-grid all day today. I had a meeting that was 2.5 hours away from the office, so I turned on the local public news station as I left the office to hear “AG says report shows no Trump collusion with Russi-” CLICK. I left the radio off until the trip back home and the first thing I hear is “Trump says report shows no collusion with Russi-” CLICK. I like MN public radio but screw NPR’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered

Reluctantly catching up now that I’m home…

CBS has a special tonight at 10:

The Mueller Report: A Turning Point
An in-depth look at the findings of the investigation into President Donald Trump, his aides, allies and associates concerning whether there was coordination with the Kremlin to win the White House and if the president obstructed justice.

How the fuck are they going to take an in-depth look at a report they haven’t fucking seen.

Gah—I guess I need to find a movie to watch this evening. (Last night, I watched all 6 parts of the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, for about the 20th time. Five plus hours of Colin Firth calmed me down some, until I turned the computer back on. Sigh. Spit.)

When I took my driver’s test in 1969, we still had to know those hand signals. I’ve often wondered if my turn signals didn’t work now and I used them, whether anybody would know what the hell I was doing, or if it would keep a cop from giving me a ticket for turning without signaling?

Something to contemplate: The DNC winning the House last November is the only reason that we can even contemplate things like bringing Mueller and Barr into an open session for questioning or waging a fight to get the report’s full release. If the GOP had kept the House, the matter would have died yesterday and we’d already be gearing up for Emailgate 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Treason is a rare charge in the United States. One who was charged, and convicted, was World War II AAF pilot Martin James Monti. This mastermind defected to the Nazis with a P-38 Lightning in October 1944, when the Reich was clearly on the ropes and just had 6 months to live. He was sentenced to 25 years on the treason charge and actually served 11. He died in obscurity in 2000, aged 79.

That was “adhering to their (the United States’) enemies, giving them aid and comfort”. Unfortunately, after fighting wars without declaring them for 75 years, we have no enemies.

I used to say what tRump did therefore didn’t qualify as treason, but I now realize this is a two-way street. Since the GRU, not just the FSB, was involved in the cyberattack, that makes it an act of war, and therefore makes Russia our “enemy”, to as great an extent as is necessary to hang Donny.

That’s always good advice. I remember now, though, we were required to give the left hand signal when pulling out of a parallel parking space, because your taillights could be hidden by the car behind you. I’ve never seen anyone do this in the wild, in 50 years of driving.

Through serious overreach, as per SOP. Another president, a smarter president, would have declared the matter “resolved” and pushed the country to “move on.” But he’s instead going to start demanding punishment for those who questioned his divine right to rule and it’s going to only fuel the demands for the full report to be made public.

re: #71 Targetpractice

What it seems the HoC did was probably the smartest thing they could do given the circumstances, namely given any fence-sitting MPs the confidence that whatever they decide Wednesday will actually have a chance of becoming reality. It also pretty much means that May’s deal is dead, at least as it is right now.

One would think so, but according to the BBC’s final update tonight:

Prime Minister Theresa May indicated earlier that she will engage with MPs over the result of the votes but said there is no guarantee she will abide by their decision.

Fun times. Though I think the first thing they would want to vote on would be acceptance of the EU’s two-week extension of the deadline - if not longer.

If this continues, what stops each administration’s DOJ from refusing to enforce any laws passed by any previous Congress? Chaos would ensue.

The USA has been a stable republic (except for that one little incident around 1861-65) because The Law and The Constitution have been considered sacrosanct by every sitting government since 1789. Once someone yanks that foundation stone out, the stability of the USA ends. We’ll become another, but larger banana republic.

True it would be devastating for the GOP and Trump, but tens of millions would lose their health insurance. It would be fun looking at the GOP suddenly facing a massive national revolt without a clue as to how to proceed. If that happened, Pelosi should just introduce a bill to let the uninsured sign up for Medicare, and dare the GOP to come up with an alternative.

No, his caucus will instead insist upon blaming the DNC for the “crisis,” declaring that if they’d just worked together with the GOP in 2017 as they were asked, then there would be an alternative in place by now. But they refused because they wanted to deny Trump a “victory” and so are responsible for the “crisis” that now exists due to the DOJ refusing to defend the ACA.

They will try, because it’s really all they have at this point, blaming the DNC for the “crises” they create. And offering “solutions” that can only be enacted if they keep the White House and regain the House of Reps. Oh, and a filibuster-proof Senate, but they’ll settle for just ending the filibuster altogether if they can attain the first two.
