Fantasy time: Muller, being the paragon of unassailable virtue everyone says he is, steps forward and releases the report himself after watching the bullshit Barr has been doing all week.
Key word there is “fantasy”. In my darker moments, Muller is a typical Republican and puts party and power before country, and has set up the report so that with Barr’s help, Trump skates.
Part of this driven by the fucking “Bob Muller is a saint” narrative that keeps getting rammed down everyone’s throats. Similar to the “If you see a person in uniform, you aren’t a True American™ unless you immediately fall down and worship them” crap I hear all the time.
Really rubs me the wrong way.

I’ve instigated(?) two rescues in my life because I was the only person to see a signal flare. Once in SF bay, and once in the Sierra. Both times I thought about how brief that signal flare was visible. The sierra rescue happened when the hiker popped the flare as the helicopter was heading directly away from him and they didn’t see it. We were climbing Horsetail Falls and saw it and waved the helicopter back and pointed to the hiker on the ridge above us. The flare was up for maybe 3 seconds.

He’s absolutely afraid of the full contents being released because it would reveal all kinds of criminal misconduct and impeachable offenses that fall short of the evidenciary standard of a conviction (beyond a reasonable doubt). But it’s more than enough to impeach and remove from office - as obstruction is clearly an impeachable offense.
Meanwhile, Democrats continue to see more people throw their hat in the ring if only for self-gratification as they have no chance of success. With that in mind, here’s my updated list (dropping out those who have decided against running).

I’m beginning to edge away from conspiracy and look at another crime listed under impeachment that would seem to be easier to prove: Bribery. It seems fairly clear that what happened was Donny was made an offer: Russian help influencing the election in exchange for payment to be discussed after the end of the election. If Hillary had won, she’d be weakened by the rodent copulation campaign and Vlad would help Donny get Trump Tower Moscow built. But if Donny won, then the payment would be sanctions relief.

Wasn’t a big fan of Nirvana so while i was sad for him, for his wife & daughter, I wasn’t as busted up as some. I lived less than a mile from Butch Vigg’s studio at the time though; wish I’d taken advantage of that.
About a month? month and a half? after the, suicide though, Courtney Love and Hole performed in Madison. Verruca Salt opened. Insane - literally insane - show that night. Between the drugs and the grief, I can’t imagine how she was functioning but most of it was an amazing and intense show up until it totally went off the rails at the end. She started stripping out of her dress, pulled a guy up out of the mosh to dance with, then accused him of taking her dress off and trying hard to start a bar fight. At that point her band pulled her back into the dressing room and IIRC VS played a short set just to calm things down and the owners shut the club down for the night. Def the most punk night of the 90’s for me O_o

Motel 6 reached a $12 million settlement with Washington state on Thursday after prosecutors said the chain violated privacy rights by giving information to immigration officials that sometimes led to the detainment or deportation of former guests.
Attorney General Bob Ferguson said that the company improperly provided U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents with “Latino-sounding” names of tens of thousands of hotel guests for two years. Some of those guests later were detained or deported as a result of those targeted investigations.
“Motel 6’s actions tore families apart and violated the privacy rights of tens of thousands of Washingtonians,” Ferguson said in a statement. “Our resolution holds Motel 6 accountable for illegally handing over guests’ private information without a warrant.”
Motel 6 can fuck right off. I am NOT Latino but my real last name definitely sounds Latino to people who don’t know any better (it’s actually European), so I probably would have been targeted had my name ended up one of those lists.

The Fed is making the right decision to stop raising interest rates since inflation is still muted and it looks like a global economic slowdown is brewing.

The GOP has hamstrung IRS enforcement, culling their ranks so that they don’t have the ability to conduct audits as frequently as they did in prior years.
0.5% of all returns got flagged for some form of audit/examination in FY 2017. Returns with AGI over 10 million saw 15% flagged for examination, while those making under $25k were flagged in under 1% of the cases.
In more than a few cases for lower income levels, the issues are discovered by matching W2 and 1099/1098 forms reported by financial institutions and employers with the income being reported by the taxpayer. Mismatches can result in corrective actions.
But with the superwealthy, most of their income comes from other sources and it’s easier to obscure the income.

Well, while this is certainly true for the hardcore Trump “base” (invincibly armored in self-righteous ignorance) that base is (AFAICT, and fervently hope) far from a majority in the country as a whole. And if one thinks about what should be the principal goal of the 2020 General Election - i.e. getting the fuck rid of Donald Trump and as many other Republicans as possible - the target electorate is likely to be at the fringes of The Donald’s 2016 margins: i.e. voters who are going to be disappointed/disgusted with the current Administration, and who will be susceptible to a campaign message from an “acceptable” Democrat. Not just nominal “Republicans”, but also members of the largest political bloc, the Apathetics. And like I said yesterday they already have a baked in legitimate legislative purpose for demanding the returns. When Trump was pushing the GOP tax cuts he publicly stated that he personally was going to be a big loser under it and that the law was going to make his taxes go up. All the Dems need to say is that they want to repeal that tax cut and need to know if Trump was lying to the American people in order to secure a financial benefit for himself.

So, something to think about: while my interest in lotteries may be some late-age quirk of my mostly-forgotten mathematics classes, there is a movement about which you may need to know and which gets too little coverage.
Among the movers and shakers in entertainment, there is a move to make gambling more widely legal. There is interest in sports betting being legal (like in many places, e.g., the UK). The usual billionaires are involved, because they will be the ones setting up the gambling corporations.
And they will make billions more.
So if you are anti-gambling (and I think there is much to worry about in regards to gambling addiction and such), it might be something that you will be concerned about.
Even if you aren’t anti-gambling, many of your least favorite people will be much richer and because they will be involved in politics that means more marginal-to-society activities will be part of the pay-to-play scheme into which our society is falling.

Kurt Cobain and I were born on the same day of the same year and we were/are both bipolar. At the time of his death people were still trying to tell me i had an, “artistic temperament” and nothing was really wrong with me. Nirvana’s music reflected what was going on in my head and so did Kurt Cobain. As cliched as it is, I was devastated when he died.
Took 5 more years for me to be properly diagnosed and i got pumped full of anti-psychotics and Lithium, quickly. I was never suicidal but damn, I understand how people get there. Lithium saved my life, but it’s a bitch of a medication.

We have a terrible outbreak of measles in Detroit and want to help protect your city. PLEASE PLEASE take this crisis very seriously and use your platform to literally save lives. Measles in adults can cause pneumonia, blindness, deafness, heart disease and even death.
Three weeks ago we had a visitor with measles who traveled through Detroit. TWENTY people, ALL IMMUNIZED, caught it from that one individual! Without knowing, we all spread it and now we face a second even larger wave. It takes 7-12 days after initial exposure for the virus to take hold and become active (in some people). I was one of the people in the first wave of twenty and I gave it to my immunized wife and ten-year-old and they are a part of the new even larger wave. I started having symptoms two weeks ago and, although I’m recovered from measles, I still have residual effects that people don’t always consider: I am still VERY WEAK, have bronchitis, and my cornea was injured so my vision is very blurry. And I’m going crazy watching this horror play out. My Purim seuda consisted of weak tea and crackers, and I shudder to think of all those who had active viruses who went to megilla reading, Purim celebrations and distributed shalach manos.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
a) Those born from 1957-1985 should get re-tested for immunity and if need be re-immunized for measles. It takes about five minutes at your local health center or doctor’s office. (It wasn’t standard to get 2 MMR shots till 1985. Many born before then probably received only one and that is not enough, as the vaccine wasn’t perfected until the mid 70s.)
b) If you have ANY flu/virus symptoms, assume it’s measles until you rule that out (with a healthcare professional)! The contagion factor is what is overwhelming our cityFOUR FACTS
1) For the FOUR FIRST DAYS after the virus is active, a person might not know he/she is infected, and for the first THREE days, that person may feel relatively good and go out into the community. There lies the problem. Every building that person enters, wherever the person goes, he/she leaves the virus in the air for TWO HOURS.
2) Even people with full immunization have a 3% chance of getting it when exposed.
3) For the first four days, measles appears like a regular virus. Treat any virus symptom as measles until this is brought under control. .
4) People born before 1957 are presumed to have had measles and are immune but we had one case of a 65 year old man who got the measles too._____________________________
LAST NIGHT’S UPDATE:
I just spoke to the head nurse at the county health department. She said they anticipate the next wave will be much lighter because of mass immunization. 2000 immunizations were recently given in the Detroit frum community to persons born between 1957-85 before they had exposure.
That’s the value of education.
One person infected 20 uneducated. Those 20 hopefully will have less impact because of education and immunization.
Let’s get the word out and organize a mass global education and immunization program in every city coast to coast.
Let’s get into action to get every single person born between 1957-85 immunized before Pesach. The Orthodox community is particularly vulnerable because of frequent travel and Shul attendance. Everyone needs to be educated not to go to Shul or any public place if they have virus symptoms. (Aching or temperature). Yeah, I have a friend who was a minor punk musician in Detroit at the time that was pushing that crap. He brought it up again a couple of years ago and I said, “Look, he was sick. He’d attempted suicide before she ever came along. He went off his lithium because he hated the side effects. If there is any “blame” here it’s his for going off his meds. No one “drove him to suicide.” No one killed him. He was sick and couldn’t get through it.”

To me it feels pretty disrespectful of the deceased to ignore the real pain he was in in favor of dumb-ass theories. Yeah, I’m such a huge fan that I am going to trivialize both his life and his death so I can peddle this ridiculous theory - and for what? To be thought an idiot? Some people, I guess, need to be reminded that these artists whose work they enjoy are actual flesh and blood people with real flesh-and-blood people problems. They aren’t just images and sounds.

Didn’t kill him - but she had been bugging the shit out of him. To be fair, he needed to go to the rehab in Venice that he eventually just broke out of. Then again, Courtney was a hot mess - she was holed up in the Peninsula Hotel (where a friend of mine was a security guard), and had shot up a mix of heroin and Valium, and had to be taken to the nearby Century City Hospital when that went wrong and she started convulsing.
They left behind a trashed hotel room and a whole bunch of cassette tapes of songs they had been working on together. I have one of the cassettes out in my garage. Wonder if anyone would want “Unreleased Kurt Cobain Demos”?
