OK, so, let me give you one of the reasons why our healthcare is so borked: I needed a refill of one of my medications I take daily-and due to my surgery, I have to take it in a liquid form vs. a capsule. I tell my MD where to send the 30-day supply (Walgreens)-I was notified that on my corporations insurance plan, I’d have to pay $260.00 out-of-pocket to meet my deductible.

So I fired up goodrx.com and it showed that I would only need to pay $27.00.

WTF?

Now I know there’s a big push for “Medicare for All”, but it won’t mean squat until we get to a true single-payer system.

It may be fixed but Safari cannot open it.

Look at vice.com and search for sumo and California.

LONG BEACH, California — “At first, they’re thinking it’s just big, fat guys pushing each other,” says Byamba Ulambayar. “But after they see our show, they respect us.”

Los Angeles wouldn’t seem like an easy place to make a living as a sumo wrestler, but Byamba is living proof that it can be done. He’s slowly watched the American appetite for sumo grow over the past few years, as both an athlete and an actor.

Byamba left the Japanese pro circuit long ago, so his most high-profile matches now take place in Long Beach, which has turned into a kind of sumo mecca. For the last 19 years, Long Beach has been the home of the U.S. Sumo Open, the longest-running annual sumo tournament outside of Japan. This year’s event, held in late March, was bigger than ever, packing a stadium with over 5,000 people.

Visiting a tournament is like a crash course in Japanese sumo culture – the program booklet contains a brief rundown on sumo rules, and Andrew Freund, the head of the U.S. Sumo Organization, also acts as an evangelizing hype man during the tournament, explaining sumo techniques to the crowd. But as novice-friendly as the tournament is, Freund takes tradition seriously, and regularly makes competitors re-enter the ring after a match is over bow to each other if he thinks they didn’t bow properly the first time.

But amateur sumo trophies don’t pay the bills, which is where Byamba’s second career as an actor comes in. He’s already been in “Oceans 13,” and plenty of commercials, starring him as a sumo wrestler. And both he and Freund are hoping that he’ll soon be able to find a career outside the ring.

VICE News visited this year’s tournament to find out how an American organization may hold the key to an alternative career path for retired Japanese sumo wrestlers.

Got in a heated argument with family about why it was Wrong for a corporate beancounter to ration care and they reply that corporations need to make a profit…

I mean, technically, they’re right, corporations - at least for profit corporations - need to make a profit. Which is, arguably, why health insurance companies - if they are to exist - probably shouldn’t be for profit entities. There is an inherent conflict of interest between the insurer and the insured when it comes to medical care. Something that doesn’t necessarily exist in other forms of insurance (which isn’t to say that insurers in other areas aren’t terrible, they pay many, many dollars to “coverage attorneys” to “make sure” claims are covered by the policy).

Unless the answer is “Restore the Win 7 requirement for you to consent to the update” rather than just giving us the option to delay it to a time we find more “convenient,” then I’m going to remain pissed at Microsoft. I get it, there were a lot of businesses who delayed until they got a virus and then blamed Microsoft, but getting that “We’re about to ram through this update” message in the middle of a game or a conversation is maddening.

Microsoft announced it’s making big changes to the way Windows 10 updates. You’ll have much more control over the way Windows 10 installs updates—or not.

Specifically, Windows 10 will no longer automatically install big updates like the May 2019 Update and October 2018 Update every six months without your permission. Now, you’ll see a notification and it’s your choice when you want to install the update.

Don’t want to install the update? That’s fine. You can keep using your current version of Windows 10 for as long as it’s supported with security updates—that’s 18 months after release. But, once every 18 months, you will be forced to update to keep getting security fixes. This is much better than once every six months, and it gives you a lot more control.

On top of that, Microsoft will now let Home users pause updates—just as Professional users can—for up to 35 days. You must pause in seven day periods, but you can pause up to five times. And, after you check for updates in Windows Update, Windows won’t automatically install them—you’ll have a choice to pause the updates, if you like.

The idea is that UKIP has spent years selling the idea of getting the UK out of the EU as some sort of “liberation,” that once it’s done they can set their own policies and be better for it. Yet Brexit is only proving that nobody takes the UK seriously and they’re not going to be able to use non-existent power to bully smaller countries around anymore. It doesn’t really help the “sovereignty” crowd when their supporters now are being told to stock up on TP and booze because such will be in short supply once the customs and trade regs become a convoluted mess in two weeks.

Oh, somebody wants them…generally either the execs or a very vocal minority of the development staff who cherry-pick emails/message board posts to insist that there’s a real desire for the ideas they’re pushing. Meanwhile, features and additions that were promised or which a majority of users actually want sit in development hell.

From a purely business standpoint, Nashville producers should be happy that Lil Nas X and Billy Ray have opened up country music to an entirely new demographic group. None of those kids would have admitted they even listened to a country song just a year ago.

I’m not a big country fan, but I like this song. It’s old school country, not all flash and glamour like Nashville usually pumps out.

Heh, almost like my dad’s reaction the first time he heard Iron Maiden’s ‘The Number of the Beast’.

He never liked heavy metal (or even rock music in general), but he did comment, “They’ve got one helluva drummer there and a damn good bass player”, referring to the late Clive Burr on drums and Steven Harris on bass guitar.

(Mostly) white people behaving badly. The named streets basically surround the TTU campus so the whole area was a no-go zone for a while tonight.

Lubbock Police Use Tear Gas to Disperse Rioting Mobs.

Lubbock police eventually used tear gas to disperse a rowdy crowd after Texas Tech’s big win in Minneapolis.

A huge crowd clogged the streets around Texas Tech campus, shutting down traffic on Broadway, 19th, University and Marsha Sharp Freeway, with the most activity concentrated at Broadway and University.

Witnesses saw people burning couches and damaging cars, including one flipped over.

Another argument for legalizing marijuana. If these savages were stoned rather than drunk, the cops could leave the tear gas in their cars and arm themselves with bags of Oreos instead.
“Here kid, have a cookie and go sit on the curb.”

A body believed to be that of missing Mouseketeer Dennis Day has been found at his home in Oregon.
Police in the town of Phoenix were called to Day’s property on Thursday, but the body has not yet been identified, Oregon Live reported.
Day, 76, was an original cast member of “The Mickey Mouse Club” in the 1950s.
In July, his husband, Ernie Caswell, who suffers from memory loss and was hospitalized at the time, reported him missing.
Nelda Adkins, Day’s sister, told “Dateline” in February that Caswell alerted police after Day hadn’t visited him in weeks.
“He had someone from the hospital call the police and report Dennis as missing,” she said.
The report said that on the day he disappeared, Day “uncharacteristically” left his dog with a friend, the local news site says.
According to NBC, that friend said he watched Day, who said he was going to visit friends, leave on foot.
Almost two weeks later, Day’s car was discovered on the Oregon coast being driven by two strangers, NBC said.
Day’s family has been disappointed by the case’s lack of development, and called it a “poorly handled investigation.”
Concerned fans and family members started a “Help Us Find Dennis Day” Facebook page to generate tips.
Rosanne Reynolds, an active poster in the group, wrote, “The investigation, in some ways, is just beginning,” in reaction to news of the body being found at his residence.

A breakthrough in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

A diagnosis of pancreatic cancer has long been viewed as a death sentence, with less than one per cent of people surviving for five years, and many dying within 12 months.
But at The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, surgeons have spent seven years trialing a new kind of treatment which is allowing people to live for at least five times as long, and some patients may even now be cured.
Cancer specialists have found that giving chemotherapy and radiotherapy to patients before surgery has a dramatic outcome on survival.

Since it was a lazy Sunday here, I had free time. So, I watched a video of an Englishman taking a spiffy passenger train between Dublin and Belfast, which (as he was careful to mention) requires no border stops because the UK is part of the EU, baby! Who TF knows what will happen with Brexit?

Also, with his shiny EU passport, he can travel freely throughout Europe without messing around with visas and such. He didn’t remark on that, but it occurred to me.

He showed some of the menus available to first class passengers on UK long haul trains, too. Lots of continental fare that will be way more expensive if the UK pulls out.

Yeah, those people won’t know what hit ‘em.

In the event of a “hard Brexit”, the quality of the provisions on railroad dining cars will probably be WAY down the list of problems they’re going to have to deal with. That “border stop” - or “not” - is likely to be a far more pressing issue. Which still hasn’t been resolved AFAICT.

It’s easy to get discouraged. But Zinke is gone. Sessions is gone. Almost all of his appointees are gone. He didn’t get wall funding. He didn’t get rid of ACA so far. He didn’t shut down the border. So I don’t think they are doing anything they want to. They are doing nasty shit it’s true but opposition is working. But it’s damn frustrating.

so… when Ilhan Omar is accused of using “divided loyalty” tropes, or accused of saying American Jews have allegiance to Israel, it’s an outrageous anti-semitic slur that must be attacked and she must resign.

But when Donald Trump blatantly, on camera, in exactly those words, explicitly tells a roomful of Jews that their allegiance and loyalty is to Israel… it’s being supportive and we should applaud him for it.

I grew up with Cocker Spaniels; at one time my parents had four. Yappy and God, they were not smart dogs. And piddled on the floor constantly.

So when I found Kira at a shelter I brought her home. I love that dog. She is a good girl, does anything I ask, but God did not gift her with smarts. She will usually be quiet when I tell her to be but last night was one of her nights. There’s usually a varmint in the yard, I let her out, she scares it off, and we move on. Not last night. It was just something in her head. And she has that deep Lab bark.

If I understand it correctly, the law where congress can demand and “shall” be given a president’s tax returns was created out of the Teapot Dome Scandal. That was about using an elected office for office holder’s own benefit. Grifting.

It appears the media and most others discussion about the Democrats demanding Trump’s taxes is about trying to find a connection to Russia through business deals.

Are the Democrats saying that is the reason for the releases or have they not defined the reason for their request and the media and everyone is running with the thinking the tax forms are a “gotcha” because the Mueller Report didn’t make the connection (so they say)?

To me all the Democrats need to say is they are using the law exactly for what it was intended, the president is being looked at for profiting off the office. Tell the media it hasn’t anything to do with Russian collusion it is all about the questions of Trump benefiting from the office, which many investigations are doing.

That has been and remains a concern from the day he took office, even before Mueller was put on the job.

When the squirrel went head down, that was definitely the case. Switching back and forth kept me and the doggo guessing.

My first experience with squirrels doing things because they can was a long time ago. I was at a friend’s house for a barbecue. We were all gathered around partying while the food was grilling when all of a sudden there was a “bing” on the top of one of the Webber grills. It freaked out one of the women as something bounced and hit her.

She looked down and saw a fractured walnut shell. She mentioned it to my friend and he said it was the squirrels, they liked to sit in the tree right above the grill and throw nut shell pieces and plink them off the grill tops. But they only did it when they had an audience.

Someone suggested to move the grills, he told them to look up, his whole back area had tree branches covering it. That person didn’t understand, then my friend told them the grills used to be over there pointing to a spot, and then over there, pointing to another spot. It didn’t matter, the squirrels would sit above wherever the grills were and plink them will nut shells.

Funny little creatures.

Well, what SHOULD happen is that the Administration, as usual emptying a whole clip magazine into its own foot, will shift the public perception from “what do they have to hide?” to “what incriminating evidence are they so desperately hiding”? With the existence of said evidence* becoming ever-more-apparent with every attempt of the Trump Crime Syndicate to try to bury it…

nada, because if the House calls/subpeonas someone to testify, they come and testify. SCOTUS has bupkis in jurisdiction in this case. The House makes the laws and calls who they wish to testify in front of them.. Remember HRC appearing in front of the House for 11 hours of testimony while the GOP looked like fools on their Benghazi fishing expedition, in this case, my guess is there’s better bait. Mueller will WANT to testify and it all goes into the Congressional record and will likely even be broadcast live on CSPAN.

The GOP controls a LOT of levers, they do not control ALL the levers.

Actually, you do have to consider stamina for the presidency. 80 probably is too old — especially since the 80-year-old might be in office to the age of 88.

Stamina can be tested (and observed, to some degree). You might be surprised at the differences between 80 yr. olds. You might not. They vary as much as people of other ages.

Seems odd to follow US conspiracy in Sweden, so there has to be a connection. Or, are things that global now to where even a strange US conspiracy becomes a thing elsewhere around the world?

Damn internet.

This is what the Nazis thought were a “clear and present danger to Germany”. A friggin’ two year-old child! And this is far from the the most gut wrenching example of who the Nazis thought were threats.

That one goes to an archeological survey at Treblinka, they didn’t go more than a foot (30 cm) down and the first thing they find is the remains of a 4 to 5 year-old girl. They decided to end the trench there and close it up.

How the fuck do people refuse to believe it happened, when the sites to this day are littered with remains? How the fuck do people not recognize the same toxic values which makes the Drumpfistas see children not older than the above as such threats they have to be drugged, locked up, and separated from their parents?

Trump, being antisemitic? But that’s unpossible! After all, he said that it was the Dems who were the real super-massive antisemites! That would have to mean he lied, and that’s just not right, only Dems do anything bad! The GOP told us so!!!

Clearly the only answer for this is to punch Democrats some more, mock their concerns and be extra credulous of anything the GOP says the Dems are for, because the only way to not be liberal media is to believe every fucking single thing the GOP says!

Why… I would surround myself with the most adroit hi-jackers, learn every trick of the highest banking and stock manipulations, avail myself of the laws under which to hide my own crimes, create a smoke screen to throw into the eyes of men, and believe me, I would become the world’s champion crook… I would get everything for myself that I could lay my hands on in this world.”

Those arguments are tortured because they don’t have arguments. They have regurgitation of what they have been told.

I doubt they know much about the actual debate other than it is bad to change something we have had for so long.

I had a pretty good liberal college-prep education with civics, history and government covered and I can’t say the EC was ever discussed in a why-it-may-not-be-a-good-thing manner. It has just been accepted.

So, it is going to take a lot to overcome the history and the why-touch-it thinking.

I have little faith in what these anonymous “Whitehouse insiders” keep leaking, remembering that the biggest insider of them all is Trump.

She ought to be indicted for kidnapping along with Miller.

Think Cuba, but self-imposed. If the only car you can buy is one built on the island, and only with available parts, you get what you can get. It’ll be the same with the other stuff.

For those who didn’t catch the headlines, speaking of WWE, at last night’s “Hall of Fame” show, legend Bret Hart was attacked by a fan (who was quickly apprehended by the many wrestlers.)

Anyway, notice the headline from the NY Post:

Inside the bizarre Twitter account of Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart’s attacker

“Bizarre”.

But when I went to the twitter account:

what I’m struck with is how NOT bizarre it is, compared to so many twitter accounts, compared to the many MAGA ranting twitter accounts.

Like his facebook account, it just seems like a young man stuck in juvenile behavior.

Yet his facebook account strikes me as far less juvenile than Trump’s twitter rants.

So if this guy is “bizarre”, why is the NY Post and so many outlets shy about labelling Trump’s rants as “bizarre”???

Which is not uncommon with a certain stripe of self declared “socialists”.

Note that the reason Brexit is even a thing is because Corbyn and the Labour party is itself split on the issue, because part of the British left is out to lunch in regards to the reality of the need to integrate into larger world trade.

Ayep. A lot of members of Labour including their own leader are Leavers who believe that if they just get all the “foreigners” out of the country, then social spending programs will run more efficiently because they’ll only be going to “Britons.”

I tend to disagree- I doubt whether (presumably/possibly soon-to-be-“ex”-) Sec’y Neilsen has enough inbred empathy to even care about the hate directed her way. If she did, I can’t imagine she would have taken Trump’s Deputy Fuhrer job in the first place.

And as little empathy as she has/had, i’m sure Trump would want to replace her with someone who has even less. But whose confirmation by Mitch McConnell’s Senate is a given…
