Lyrics

I feel stupid, I feel useless, I feel insane
I feel toothless, man you’re ruthless, oh…yeah
i go to Loving Hut, i get my hair cut, i feel the same
i feel putrid, i’m getting used to it, these days

you said, “it’s only in your head
they’re probably thinking
the same thing”

i’m bleeding, you’re leaving, i feel strange
you been distant, you seem different than yesterday
everybody hurts, everybody breaks, n everybody fades

we’re gonna tell everyone it’s ok
we’re gonna tell everyone it’s ok

you said, “it’s only in your head
they’re probably thinking
the same thing”

I did! Had to go 3 places to find what I was looking for, but I’m lucky enough to *have* 3 places in town.

Got Dylan and Van Morrison for me, Lennon and ELP for Mrs.

I’m going to say this here but Dan Crenshaw is an asshole who uses his military service as a shield against criticism of the party and ideology he’s thrown his lot in with. Thanks for your service Dan but you’re nothing but a right wing hack who lies as much as the Republicans who were too cowardly to serve.

No, I went and visited my mother and brother. Where I found that my mother has truly, honestly and completely quit smoking. (She’s on the patch.) My brother scrubbed down the laundry room where she would smoke and it looks great.

I’m of course referencing how Crenshaw joined the smears and lies about what Representative Omar said and then cried because people rightfully called out his membership in the party that did in fact deny benefits to 9/11 first responders because some of them ZOMG MAY HAVE BEEN UNDOCUMENTED. Sorry. The guy’s a fucking pos. He served his country honorably as far as I can see in the military but he’s not serving it honorably as a member of Congress.

You know what’s pathetic, Donnie? You. You’re constantly bragging and crying on Twitter about how great you are or how you’ve been wronged. How about you just leave our country and go to a place that would actually welcome an autocratic bedwetting coward like you as its leader, maybe Putin will let you succeed him.

A quick test to see if you have a record that used virgin vinyl instead of re-ground vinyl is to hold the disc up and see if it’s translucent - you should be able to see light through the LP that used virgin vinyl, even though it’s black.

Also, one of the big bugaboos during the Golden Age of records was the pressing process, which over time would cause the mother disc to degrade - some mother masters would be pressed many thousands of times, which would degrade the mother disc and it’s resulting disc.

It is. I just fear that Crenshaw is going to win out in public opinion because of the optics because America as we know it will definitely take the word of a wounded American born combat vet over a Somali born former refugee. I hate it but Crenshaw isn’t stupid enough to realize that’s exactly the case. If Crenshaw had any of the political integrity he thinks he had, he would have realized that what Rep. Omar said was no different than what a fellow Texan of Crenshaw’s did after 9/11 and remind us that we were not at war with Muslim people and that the 9/11 attacks touched us all regardless of our background. By playing into the lies about what she said, Crenshaw is showing himself to be no different than Trump or any of the other GOP liars politically. He may have served honorably but I have no respect at all for him as an elected official. In fact, I have less because he should fucking know better IMO.

That’s exactly the problem. However, it may hurt Omar. That’s why it’s important that the Dem leadership stand with her and defend what she actually said rather than letting bullies like Crenshaw, Trump, and the NYP distort what she said.

Exactamundo. I was really disappointed with how the leadership handled the whole Benjamins thing tbh too. Here’s an uncomfortable truth that right wing hacks will never admit but Representative Omar is more tougher on Islamic extremism than Trump is. Trump is the one who bent over backwards for Saudi state who killed Jamal Khashoggi.

I know man but I do think leadership should stand by her and we need to make it clear what she actually said. She’s getting tons of death threats as is but maybe if we push back and point out what she actually in fact said, it could be just a bit fewer. It’s not right for anyone to receive death threats. It’s even worse that it’s coming based off distortions of what she actually said.

Yep. These guys aren’t stupid. And even if Omar isn’t in trouble herself, she’s definitely going to be used as a lightening rod against Dems running in more contested districts. The Dems need to continue to push back in support of her and point out the truth when it comes to this President especially with 9/11 insensitivity.

I think we need to stay on negative messaging on every craven Trump lie. Yeah I admit, an abundance of riches devalues the money… But the wedge to insert is the old mans escalating deficit. The hammer on the wedge is the nonsense. Show the derangement, the senility the WEAKNESS. That’s how maybe we talk to the right. Keep hammering. He is weak in all but bluster volume. Big deficit = bigger government.

Remember at heart the right wing is insecure. Fear is easily exploited and we need not hesitate.

A 23-year-old man with a rare condition is fighting for his life after being checked into Oklahoma University Children’s Hospital weighing only 30 pounds.

Jackass arrested for threatening to shoot up children’s hospital.

everythinglubbock.com

LUBBOCK, Texas — Thomas Matthew Fricke, 45, of Midland was arrested this week for terroristic threat; specifically, he was accused of threatening a mass shooting at a Lubbock hospital.

According to an arrest warrant, Fricke called Covenant Children’s to get information about his grandchild. The child was in “super critical” condition in late March having been, according to court records, the subjection of violent abuse.

The baby’s parents, Gary Lee Fox, 20, and Makayla Fricke, 22, were both arrested for injury to a child and as of Thursday both remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center.

On April 3, police were called to Covenant Children’s.

According to the arrest warrant, “Someone had just called the PICU at [the hospital] and threatened to shoot all of the nurses and the baby in bed #8.”

As I understand it, Trump came with *his* demands written on a piece of paper, which he then handed to Kim to read. Shortly afterward, Kim and NK declared the meeting over, and Kim headed back home. It’s not hard to figure out that the Trump team had no plans other than those devised by Fearless Leader himself on the spur of the moment.

Starting with the sheriff of Weld County, Colo., a bunch of the rural county sheriffs in Colorado have now said they will refuse to enforce Colorado’s new so-called red flag law. They say they’d rather go to jail on principle (upholding the Second Amendment and due process rights).

The due process thing is nonsense since the order to seize firearms has to go through a judge, and the person who is the target of the order gets to present their own case.

In the meantime, Nebraska state senator Adam Morfeld (D-46th district, north half of Lincoln and northern rural area beyond the city) introduced a red flag bill in the Unicameral this year. It’s on the legislative schedule to be debated.

Well, after they had Hegseth on FOX to call disabled veterans “welfare cheats,” I figured conservatives would be doing something like this.

In my entire life, I have never seen conservatives give a diddly damn about active duty, reservists, veterans, or their families. It is an amazing lie they’ve perpetrated on the voters that they are the party who “cares about the troops.”

As a disabled vet myself, I know which party that is, which is why I’m a Democrat.

I watched The Highwaymen just now. Well done flick. Charles had mentioned that we don’t see Bonnie and Clyde’s faces till their final moments, but in fact we get a glimpse of Bonnie just before she shoots a motorcycle cop lying in the road. I’d have to watch it again to see if we see Clyde, aside from seeing his face dimly through their car’s windshield.

I don’t think I ever saw the 1967 Bonnie & Clyde, since I was 11 at the time and it wasn’t the kind of movie my parents would have taken me to see. Will correct that omission soon.

Also I filed my taxes. Woo-hoo! Of course, I had to pay an arm and leg for the privilege, because mine is not a straightforward, “file on a postcard” return.

RCP8.5 is not the likely future, though. It already hasn’t been the past few years.

Fossil fuels are only cheap when they are easy to produce.

As the easy to produce fossil fuels deplete, the cost/benefit of wind and solar dooms the hardest to produce fossil fuels.

This is why Trump hates on wind so much - it is already cost effective where there is optimum winds (such as in the central US.)

The share of CO2 in the atmosphere in 2100 is more likely to be around 600ppm, maybe 650ppm.

When I grew up in fly-over country, tornado warnings were a common thing. We had no basement so only had to hope that we wouldn’t be blown away. Usually that worked well, but I remember once we headed over to a neighbor’s to be in his basement. Another time I was home alone and just stayed in my bedroom - I could see the cloud circulation to the NW… and among other things hit in my town was my school.

You might look into building yourself a reinforced shed - rebar in poured cement block, etc. It can do double duty as a garden shed when you’re not hiding in it.

We used the KY shelter a couple times. Wife loaded kids and freakout German Shepherd into the car and drove them a hundred yards to the hatch. The real story of that shelter was the hundreds of pounds of pumpkins I had shelved there for the winter. You don’t store pumpkins in the old and damp. Threw up a couple times shoveling the goo off the gravel floor, but did get to see colors I had never seen in Nature.

Around here they sell an aboveground 4-person capsule of about 7/16th steel that bolts to anchors on a patio or garage.

Disagree. Pelosi has often supported what (in her time) was indeed progressive policies.

Pelosi is a real-life politician with a record of public service. It needs to be considered overall and not just picked apart and attacked at random spots you might disagree with.

OTOH, the GOP nominated a candidate with no record of public service and a record of private self-service that is overall awful and almost devoid of any redeeming features.

Let’s hope you set a record for your family and live to be very very old. (And healthy enough to not be suffering, though thing always start breaking down.)

Regarding America, maybe if the Democratic party wins the next election (either the Presidency or the Senate) you should just declare victory on that goal?

A Dem victory is necessary but will not be enough. We must see a revolution in the hearts of men. Without new thinking, new art, and even (puke) a new religion we will sink back into the muck. That’s what Trump and his worldwide brethern have shown us.

That religion, art, philosophy, music will all bootstrap together as a package. The question is how many deaths and how many decades it will need. Whatever it will be, we cannot even set the loose parameters.

The real problem will be that our society is a wreck, in regards to having yet to build a belief in new social institutions that can hold up to the challenges we have. In many ways Trump is just the walking encapsulation of the end-of-the-line situation in which the past’s dominant institution (here in the US that would be the Christian religion) has now found itself.

One of the signs that changes are happening is that young people (those under 30) just don’t hold the same views of sexual orientation that Trump’s generation holds. Being gay, for example, is not a bad thing in the view of the majority of young people.

That is making it hard for the old paternalistic religions, given part of their schtick is the control of sexuality.

I see the film executives are determined to beat the Charlie’s Angels franchise to death.

It was perhaps the shining example of ’70s jiggle television - but that era is long past and let’s stop trying to make it a thing again. It’s fine for the nostalgia value (I’m a child of the 1970’s) but that’s about it. Sort of like the Six Million Dollar Man…..it was cool in its era, but that era is over (though I admit wish I still had the toys; I had the Steve Austin and Maskatron figures, as well as Steve Austin’s rocket/bionic repair station, and some of those go for a small fortune on eBay).

A young boy discovered, growing up, that he had a golden screw in his belly button. Nothing he tried could remove it or the increasing embarrassment, so he turned to prayer. After much supplication, an angel appeared to him, and told him where he could find the magical golden screwdriver deep in the woods. He went there, found it, turned the golden screw just once, and his ass fell off.

Strangest things come across my twitter:

He’s referring to this tome: Kip Thorne & Roger Blandford on Modern Classical Physics

It’s actual inexpensive for a 1500+ page college textbook.

The indices of which Cox quotes probably has to do with tensors (which are vectors on steroids.) Classical physics is a broad subject and even being a physics major one gets usually only one semester of dynamics, one semester of thermo/statistical physics, and perhaps a year of E&M (though often only one semester is required.) In these classes, even if one has a Special Relativity class (which tend to be only a couple of credits), the problem quickly arises for the student that getting hung up on mathematical formalisms (the “indices up or down” in the Cox tweet) stops any and all intuition and thinking about the physics.

As much as I wish the whole report came out and Republican senators said “we’ll convict” I don’t think that would ever happen. A long drawn out obstruction will damage Republicans more. Republicans have learned they can stonewall anything for a few weeks but months of incremental shit will take a toll. Plus NY AG should be in the mix soon as well as SDNY being thwarted by Barr coming to light? Impeach Barr sounds like a good idea.

Bullshit Sarah. He enjoys every minute he can use the bully pulpit to get his deranged supporters on someone. We’ve all seen him encourage violence at his modern Nuremberg Rallies. You can lie to yourself all you want if you think it helps you sleep at night but he relishes inciting hatred and violence towards people and if he had any character at all, he would apologize for lying about what Representative Omar said.

The response should be:
“TRUMP DIRECTS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO ENTER, STAY IN USA”

To me, it’s just another point in the stupidity-vs-malice debate*, but I’ve noticed even more-or-less official pronouncements re the “sanctuary cities” flap tend to conflate the notions of “illegal immigrant” and “asylum-seeker”/“refugee” into one undifferentiated mass. And letting that mass being unsubtly defined - mainly by the Administration’s RW media enablers - as “threatening horde of brown foreign criminals”. Very nice.

* and, it being the Trump Administration, the option of “why not both”? usually fits.

The one song that Rogers and Hammerstein both fought for because it made people think even though quite a few wanted it dropped.

Indeed: As per the Wikipedia entry for the song,

Rodgers and Hammerstein risked the entire South Pacific venture in light of legislative challenges to its decency or supposed Communist agenda. While the show was on a tour of the Southern United States, lawmakers in Georgia introduced a bill outlawing entertainment containing “an underlying philosophy inspired by Moscow.” One legislator said that “a song justifying interracial marriage was implicitly a threat to the American way of life.” Rodgers and Hammerstein defended their work strongly. James Michener, upon whose stories South Pacific was based, recalled, “The authors replied stubbornly that this number represented why they had wanted to do this play, and that even if it meant the failure of the production, it was going to stay in.

Strange Journalistic Fact of the Day: Sometime in the late ’60s, it was noticed that the NYT Sunday Fashion section had, from time immemorial, been airbrushing out the belly buttons of swimsuit and lingerie models. No one knew why, and they stopped.

There was a rule, back in the dim times of broadcast TV, that women were not supposed to show their navels on camera. So, Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeannie had to wear a ridiculously modest harem costume. This was about the same time as the James Bond flicks showing navels and bare backs.

EDIT: Dang it! Someone got there first, and with a video, even.

Heh. You nailed it: from Theiss’s Wiki:

In the course of his career, Theiss was most famous for creating alluring female costuming that censors typically could not credibly forbid, employing what came to be called the “Theiss Titillation Theory”: “The sexiness of an outfit is directly proportional to the perceived possibility that a vital piece of it might fall off.”

And old Bill certainly got his chance to shine with Star Trek…..

Yeah you need political freedom for economic freedom and there was none of that in Pinochet’s Chile. The free market is more than just goods. It’s about the free market of ideas and yes despite what Capitalist diehards claim that does include less than savory ideas like Socialism and Communism. Capitalism needs competition to thrive lest it become the same system(Mercantilism) that Smith was trying to replace Capitalism with.

Which was why we screwed up in Latin America big time. I’m not going to act like Allende’s ideas would have been the best thing ever for Chile but the people in that country did elect him and they did NOT elect Pinochet. We were so fixated with being as Anti-Communist as possible in the Cold War that Anti-Communist stopped meaning Anti-Authoritarian and just whoever hated Communists the most that we could support.

I’m banging my head against a wall at the moment as I see in slow motion the way the blame for Ilhan Omar’s treatment is getting shifted from Trump and the GOP for actually putting her at risk and demonizing her, to the Dems, Pelosi in particular, for ‘throwing her under the bus’. I barely see any blame toward Trump and folks actually trying to instigate violence against her, just more ‘burn down the Dem party’ purity politics once more.

I’m fucking exhausted goddammit. Again, to be a Dem is apparently to be the root of all evil and to be to blame for every single goddamn thing.

They do, but in their ears what they say sounds truthy, or they believe themselves to be so far above “the others” that they may “bend” the rules… Both are common effects of pathological collective/group narcissism.

And they can ask law professors, tax experts, and even get the IRS to testify under oath about policies, procedures, and ask very specific questions about those returns to get answers about how those returns were filed and whether they are consistent, under audit, etc.
