Yesterday, Joker from the video game “Persona 5” was added to the Smash Bros video game on the switch. With this one, though, they didn’t just add a character. They added a level to represent the game, that changes colors and music to represent the other Persona games. They added a level builder. Joker’s moves and attacks are drawn from the game. They added other characters from Persona 5 as support. When he wins, the screens look like they’re from Persona 5 and not Smash.
My youngest is so excited.

During President Xi Jinping’s tour of state media outlets in February 2016, he emphasized that they must “speak for the Party,” and, further, that they must expand their influence abroad in order to “tell China’s story to the world.”[10] After registering with the FARA, CGTN America director general Ma Jing and a dozen other staffers were recalled to Beijing.[11]
CGTN initially claimed that it had “editorial independence from any state direction or control”. This was debunked by New York Times reporter Paul Mozur in interviews with “current and former CGTN employees [who] say CCTV editors in Beijing often dictated plans for covering China. American employees sometimes pushed back, they said, and Ms. Ma allowed some flexibility when Beijing’s orders didn’t specifically forbid or dictate content. But three people interviewed said they had little choice but to air propaganda clips when Beijing said so”.[12][13] CGTN employees were disciplined when a news report mentioned Falun Gong, the religious group labeled as a cult and banned by the PRC. The flag of Taiwan, the self-governing island that is claimed by PRC, are banned from broadcasts. In November 2018, amid growing international criticism of China’s imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of Muslim Uighurs in indoctrination camp programs designed to discourage Islam, CGNT America aired a piece portraying the camps as successful vocational training and antiterrorism centers and Uighurs as grateful. In addition, CGTN America has broadcast “exclusive” coerced confessions of people accused of a wide variety of crimes in China, most notably the example of a Briton, Peter Humphrey.
It really wouldn’t surprise me if sometime in the next few days to a week Trump does some really horrible thing like actually following through with closing the southern border or taking the “Little Rocket Man” anti-diplomacy against N. Korea to the next level (using their recent military announcements as provocation) to fire up/distract his base and try to retake control of the news cycle.
And the media will be obligingly stupid enough to drop the bone and chase the squirrel.

My brothers listen to his podcast. From the little I’ve heard, I think Rogan is a clown and way too nice to people who don’t deserve it and he loves to MBF. I’ve been to Portugal btw. Testing was conducted on 119 Vietnam War veterans who suffered penetrating brain injuries to a particular part of the brain, the ventromedial prefrontal cortex.
This part of the brain is considered critical to religious belief and extreme political conservatism. The study compared the test subjects to a control group of 30 Vietnam War veterans with no brain damage.
They found that in addition to damage to the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, damage to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex also causes rigidity in religious belief.
They also noted that people so injured tended to rate radical political positions as moderate.

In general, religious beliefs tend to differ from empirical beliefs. Although people may think subjectively of religious belief as a true or false representation of how the world is, it is notable that certain religious beliefs do not generally update in response to evidence, and that conservatism is especially notable in the case of fundamentalist beliefs. Empirical beliefs are indications of how the world appears to us and are updated according to accumulated evidence. Fundamentalist religious beliefs, in comparison, do not track and predict variation in the world. Rather, they appear to track, and predict, social group-level commitments (Bulbulia & Schjoedt, 2012).
Further down in the study, they note the issue of intelligence and religiosity, previously studied by a different group in 2013. That study showed a small but measurable difference in intelligence.

This study used the Armed Forces Qualification Test, since those scores were available for the Vietnam veterans. They noted a significant drop in AFQT scores amongst the veterans who had brain injuries and increased fundamentalist beliefs, with no change in those who were not injured.

The claim of the study (besides the usual claim in any study of “this needs more study”) was on medical issues affecting behaviour.
It’s well-known that changes in the brain in anything from disease to brain injury to Alzheimer’s Disease cause changes in behaviour. In the case of that study, they were looking for specific behaviours (change to fundamentalist beliefs).

A commentator over at emptywheel had this to say on their article on William Barr’s performance piece yesterday.
That might have helped, but FCC regulations are pretty harsh if you broadcast stuff like that (as George Carlin adeptly demonstrated and Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” showed).
FCC rules regarding the seven deadly words only apply to broadcast transmissions, not cable or satellite feeds. And broadcast networks have become adept at bleeping just enough of a word to stay within the FCC regs while making clear what the word is.

The London meeting between former high commissioner Alexander Downer and Trump adviser George Papadopoulos was first reported by the New York Times in December 2017, reportedly revealing how Downer had been told by Papadopoulos that Russia had political dirt on Hillary Clinton.
Until now, the Australian government and Downer have refused to confirm or give any details about the meeting central to the beginning of the Trump-Russia investigation, repeatedly citing the need to preserve national security.

(Reuters) - The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico on Thursday called for state authorities to investigate a small group of armed U.S. citizens who they alleged are illegally detaining migrants entering the United States.
The United Constitutional Patriots, who claim to be mainly military veterans, have been patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border near Sunland Park, New Mexico, since late February in search of illegal border crossers.
They post near daily videos showing members dressed in camouflage and armed with semi-automatic rifles holding groups of migrants, many of them Central American families seeking asylum, until U.S. Border Patrol agents arrive to arrest them.
The small volunteer group says it is helping Border Patrol deal with a surge in undocumented migrants but civil rights organizations like the ACLU say it is a “fascist militia organization” operating outside the law.
“We cannot allow racist and armed vigilantes to kidnap and detain people seeking asylum,” the ACLU said in a letter to New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Attorney General Hector Balderas.
“We urge you to immediately investigate this atrocious and unlawful conduct.”
The offices of Lujan Grisham and Balderas did not respond to requests for comment.

I guess part of my point is that they *don’t* have to prove their citizenship to a bunch of armed men who are not acting in any official capacity. Verbally claim you’re US citizens in a place you are allowed to be in - especially for instance if it’s private property and one of them owns the property. And if the armed mob attempts to detain you call in the police to deal with them.
It would be a pretty brave act to confront this bunch like that though, and have a notable amount of risk involved. But otherwise I cannot think of much that would make them desist.

I guess part of my point is that they *don’t* have to prove their citizenship to a bunch of armed men who are not acting in any official capacity. Verbally claim you’re US citizens in a place you are allowed to be in - especially for instance if it’s private property and one of them owns the property. I’m reading the TDPRI Telecaster forum this morning, and some dude in Delaware posted that he found what looks to be a 1953 Telecaster at a flea market - and bought it for 20 bucks.
The experts over at the forum are weighing in, and it does indeed look like the real deal. Even with the so-so varnish refinish, the guitar is easily worth $10 grand. Fully restored, it will be worth twice that.

You might remember that earlier this week, I posted a link to Roy Buchanan’s 1953 Telecaster, on sale by a dealer in NYC for the princely sum of $45,000.
I’m reading the TDPRI Telecaster forum this morning, and some dude in Delaware posted that he found what looks to be a 1953 Telecaster at a flea market - and bought it for 20 bucks.
The experts over at the forum are weighing in, and it does indeed look like the real deal. Even with the so-so varnish refinish, the guitar is easily worth $10 grand. Fully restored, it will be worth twice that.
I am obviously not livin’ right. I gotta get out to more flea markets…

So many talented artists have a lot of inner demons when you think about it. I’ve been learning a lot more about the artistic process by reading both a DaVinci biography and talking with one of my old camp counselors who is a songwriter based in Portland. And honestly I can relate because I do know depression and anxiety even though I’ve gotten better.

I’ll agree on #1. The Welch lineup never really did it for me, although Bare Trees was a damn fine record. I saw that lineup, back when Christine McVie was still Christine Perfect. I had a mad crush on that woman.
The Hit Machine FM would be #2 for me - the first two albums with that lineup, anyway. I think Warner Brothers could have taken that massive budget for Tusk and thrown it into the Pacific and done the world a favor. They totally lost me with that record.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw, Republican of Texas, has upped his attacks on Rob Serra, a retired firefighter who survived 9/11, by claiming that Serra is conspiring against him with Democratic Rep. Max Rose. Which, if you’re keeping score, pits Crenshaw—a former Navy Seal who takes credibility from his war injury—against a 9/11 first responder and a fellow congressional Afghanistan veteran.
After Serra came forward to say that Crenshaw had refused to shake his hand in a Capitol Hill hallway as he lobbied for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund—a claim backed up by a fellow 9/11 first responder who witnessed the snub—Crenshaw insisted that it was a dirty attack intended to get him back for his own attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar. Now Crenshaw says that Serra is “conspiring with Max Rose” and “There’s a more malicious underlying motive here I think.” Oh, but he wasn’t done there: Crenshaw brought it back around to Rep. Omar (who, by the way, has co-sponsored the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund), saying, “This accusation is a nefarious attempt to undermine me because I spoke out against Omar. It’s highly dishonest.”
Crenshaw’s evidence for a conspiracy is that Rose retweeted Serra’s accusation that Crenshaw snubbed him. Serra is Rose’s constituent … and it’s a single retweet. As evidence of malicious conspiracy goes, it’s not the strongest. As Serra put it to the New York Daily News, “I’ve met Max Rose once or twice. All I did was respond to Max’s tweet. If that’s conspiring then I think we have different definitions of conspiring.”
Serra also returned to the key point: Crenshaw’s refusal so far to co-sponsor the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund: “I wanted to shake (Crenshaw’s) hand because I had respect for him. He may have been in a rush… and I’m by no means an important person, but I still stand by the fact that he needs to support this bill.”

After college I needed money to get to Japan for a teaching gig, so I sold it to a friend for $250 and asked him to sell it back to me. It was old when I bought it in 1985. I’ll agree on #1. The Welch lineup never really did it for me, although Bare Trees was a damn fine record. I saw that lineup, back when Christine McVie was still Christine Perfect. I had a mad crush on that woman.
The Hit Machine FM would be #2 for me - the first two albums with that lineup, anyway. I think Warner Brothers could have taken that massive budget for Tusk and thrown it into the Pacific and done the world a favor. They totally lost me with that record.

Bob Welch wrote Hypnotized for the album, and although not as big a hit as The Hit Machine Mac it was a pretty solid hit and a great song.

It is the same thing as the opinion writers you see in the NY Times and WaPo. These big media entities put in opinion pieces so they can be seen as balanced. The problem is most conservative opinion writers anymore are just GOP talking points over and over. There really is no original point or opinion it in.
