I’m just going to put this here, because it’s such a perfect look into the depraved mindset of this family of criminals and racists, as Lara Trump goes on Fox Business to do some good old fear-mongering about immigrants and reveals once again that Trumps have a problem understanding what’s so bad about Nazis.

It’s not only bigoted, it’s a shockingly ignorant comment. But then, do we expect anything else from this gang?

Trump barely beat the most unpopular Democratic nominee ever by the slimmest of margins, and he remains very unpopular. Here is what happened, the share of the electorate who voted third party or independent increase from nearly 2% in 2012 to nearly 6% in 2016. About 3/4 of that 4% came from Democratic voters and the rest from GOP voters. If the Democrats just get those voters back they will win, because Trump has done nothing and will do nothing to win over any new voters outside his base. And that’s before his dirty laundry gets aired out in televised congressional hearings.

Well, talked to the bike shop (the most expensive in town but I trust their people more) and explained that I needed a “just get it working don’t worry about a tune up” kind of thing. Replaced the tube, replaced the chain front shifter works fine, rear one not so much. It’s pretty flat around here - I’ll put the sucker in a middle gear and live with it.

$60.15. Can’t really afford it but can’t not afford it even more. Shrug. Easier to bike a mile or three with a backpack full of groceries than it is to walk it. Maybe I’ll lose a pound or two this summer.

No it is not. The maps actually favor Republicans; Bruce Rauner won 58% of state House districts with 50% of the vote. It’s just a blue state where Dems normally win more votes. Their gerrymander just cancels out the impact of segregation in Chicago

There has to be more to the story. I have more guns and ammo in storage than this guy. They also charged him with illegal possession of Tramadol, which is relatively low grade as far as opioids go. They threw that on so they could get him for illegal possession of firearms by an unlawful user or addict of narcotics. Without that they’d only have him for the National Firearms Act violation of illegal possession of unregistered & unserialized silencers.

So my guess is that they couldn’t get him on anything else. If he never communicated his plans then they can’t charge with making terroristic threats. If he didn’t involve anybody else then RICO is out the window. And if all he did was research where people lived then my guess is the federal prosecutors didn’t view that as an overt enough act for attempted murder or stalking.

It’s a fucked up situation but it really does look like they threw the book at him as much as they could.

Gerrymandering can take many forms. In California we had a bipartisan gerrymander where the incumbent state legislators basically created an incumbent protection scheme in the state legislature and the Congress. Republicans were guaranteed just enough seats to prevent Democrats from having super majorities in either state legislative house and between the three chambers, not one seat changed parties in a decade (might have also happened with the state board of equalization). It’s one of the reasons that we have a non-partisan committee redraw lines now.

I’m kind of tired of everyone acting like the Democrats have to be absolutely perfect to beat Trump. Trump barely beat the most unpopular Democratic nominee ever by the slimmest of margins, and he remains very unpopular. Here is what happened, the share of the electorate who voted third party or independent increase from nearly 2% in 2012 to nearly 6% in 2016. About 3/4 of that 4% came from Democratic voters and the rest from GOP voters. If the Democrats just get those voters back they will win, because Trump has done nothing and will do nothing to win over any new voters outside his base. And that’s before his dirty laundry gets aired out in televised congressional hearings.

NO NO NO. Hillary was not, by any stretch of the imagination, the most unpopular Democratic nominee ever, and she WON the popular vote with the second largest vote total EVER, and I am so tired of having to write this. She was my candidate from the time she was first lady of Arkansas, and it was a total gut punch to have Comey-Russia-Wikileaks-complicit media beat her by a handful of votes in the Electoral College.

P.S. the good news about the Hasson case is that the NFA violations are incredibly fucking serious. Because even if they technically don’t justify holding without bail they carry a sentencing range of up to 10 years in prison. Possessing unmarked silencers seems like it would be really hard to defend against, especially if his fingerprints are on them, and after conviction you can be fairly certain that the judge will take all of his genocidal ideation into account when calculating the time he gets.

Yeah I hear ya. I don’t see Bernie building relationships with the leaders of the EU like Merkel and Macron because they’re not on the same page economically. Now Warren is someone I think while she is to their left would work with them. You definitely underscore why I don’t feel comfortable with Bernie domestically or internationally. I want someone who I know will have our allies back because I appreciate that our allies have had our back despite the lies Trump says.

I’m saying I don’t get why a white working class guy gets bothered by a Democrat like HRC saying that immigrant family has the same right to dream the American dream as you. Yes we need to unite but I have no desire to welcome into our coalition people who have no desire to welcome people who are part of our coalition whether formally or informaly as fellow Americans. We can appeal to working class interests without throwing allies under the bus and the left wing econ uber alles types don’t acknowledge that.

That really wasn’t what set me off, TBH. I mean, I disagreed with him on that but he was reasonable about it and frankly, that was something that was quite easy to disagree on. Finding a bunch of 10+ year old sources is going to be a bit tricky now but I’m pretty sure he was hinting at a whole lotta US disengagement, globally.
Of course, that might have just been electoral strategy, but given how many on the left complained how Obama turned out more centrist than he seemed to campaign I wasn’t the only one who felt like that (of course, they soured on the guy for the same reasons I came around to him, but isn’t it nice if we can at least agree in some way? )

To me that seemed like just a bit of politically expedient hindsight 20/20 (and who can blame him for making some use of that - that’s just politics).

Also, do note that I’m not saying Obama was ever as bad as Warren is/would be - so I don’t think we disagree all that much (on Obama that is, at least).

Funny thing, I suspect I made the same mistake on o’Rourke. Figured a lot of his more abstract lip service to somewhat more libertarian ideal, where appropriate of course, were just that - lip service. Then a bunch more came out about his background and it seems he’s actually quite genuine on that. Still don’t agree with some of his legislative positions, but damn if he doesn’t seem like the sort of sensibly-liberal type I’d like to see in the white house. So hats off to you on that one, I guess ;)

I would love some more seasoning before he gets there but IMO the entirety of the rest of the Dem field is either even less seasoned (Buttigieg), overly seasoned (Biden), or f***ng terrifyingly wrong for the job (everyone else).

Honestly though, nothing really properly prepares anyone for that terrifying job anyway, and Obama wasn’t exactly a super-seasoned legislator either - he seemed to do fine. Sure, he had somewhat more experience, but I think that can be overcome. And Beto seems like he’d be flexible enough to compensate for his own inexperience by picking some appropriate advisors - and then actually listening to them. I think y’all could do a lot worse. But wide as the field is, it’s kind of terrifyingly thin.
