On the bright side, this might just be the admin to actually see a cabinet secretary thrown in the slammer for contempt.
…Yeah, still not likely, but imagine the popcorn sales if that were to actually happen.

Someday a young man or woman will sue the US government for being kidnapped by ICE in the asylum process and separated beyond reunion. I hope sovereign immunity fails the feds. Reparations will be due

It will be yet another issue we’ll say never again to and another Trump will use similar rhetoric. We need to defeat Trump and Trumpism next Fall.

Bad idea. Senate won’t go for it in the end anyway, and the next 18 or so months need to be about Trump’s corruption, Trump’s obstruction; Trump’s impeachment. Drag that out, every last Dem legislator humping any TV camera in sight with focused, repeated, concise reminders why the bastard needs to go - and then make any R senator who votes against bleed for it.

Yes, drag out the bloody Benghazi playbook already. It’s justified, and it’s way past due.

I know it’s popular to complain how media seems to go for R talking points a lot of the time but a lot of that is because they actually give the media something to run with. Time the D’s take a bloody hint already.

(and stop glorifying their own pet project or issue over the party line all the time. I get it, you’re more than one issue - that’s great! Now maybe focus on the elephant in the room for a bit, already…)

Jack at Twitter: I can’t tell the president what he can say on Twitter.

You could if you actually held to your supposed standards you wimp.

Hate speech and drumming up others to threaten a member of congress surely isn’t allowed by your standards is it? Then it should be no different for anyone using the service.

Big Baby Trump is going to have to learn “no” sometime. Why not teach him a lesson?

Or, is it because you know he can turn against you and hurt your business as he is a petty ass that will get revenge?

Yes, I think that might be it. Protect the money stream. Fuck doing the right thing.

Yes, open skies treaty aircraft. A spy plane that can fly anywhere to monitor our compliance with SALT etc. We can literally watch the Russian plane as it flies. For free it’s delayed I think, but if one pays the twelve bucks a month you can live track any plane short of certain military flights. We recently flew Ukraine at length watching the Russians.

If nothing else, I agree with both of these paragraphs:

It wasn’t a cautious move. Calling the president a supporter of white supremacy, racism, and anti-Semitism isn’t a tepid opening to a campaign. It’s white-hot rhetoric coming from the white male establishment candidate with a reputation for bipartisanship and moderation. It’s social justice rhetoric coming from the supposed champion of the white working class.

I think it’s a fascinating approach.

He’s got a hill to climb to get anywhere near where I would support him, but I will take that fight.

90
retired cynic  Apr 25, 2019 • 7:49:38pm

Biden focusing on white supremacy could be very useful, but it is one hell of a double edged strategy.

E.g., if he talks like Trump is some alien dropped into the Republican party, he’ll likely lose an important block of (D) primary voters because of wishy-washiness, but if he gets real about the long and racist road the GOP took to get to Trump, the media will crucify him and important idiot swing voters in the general will likely be lost.

Agreed. The fight has to be held, even if the outcome is way too uncertain.

Edited to add: That’s also why impeachment proceedings in the House are a must. The only concession I’ll make there to political reality is that the timing of sending the articles of impeachment over to the Senate for a vote can reasonably be poll and election-cycle driven

So, here’s my sitch job-wise now.

I have two offers, plus the option of just retiring on my SS benefits.

Job 1: continue at my present post, a known quantity, with a nice, free apartment, and two long vacations (winter and summer) plus shorter holidays in May and October. Likely, I will have a whole new teaching staff to manage next year, as all but one are leaving AFAIK now. My main assistant will remain if I remain. If we both go, well, that would be bad for everyone else.

Job 2: work in Shanghai for a college placement agency that matches Chinese high school students with American colleges, and shepherds them through the application process. Peak working time: July to December, with long days, including evenings and weekends. Off-season: teach prep classes, like SAT, TOEFL, etc. [This part is still a question mark.] Pay and benefits have yet to be offered, but a free apartment is not one of the bennies. I asked for a high enough salary to make it possible to find a decent place to live, but now I wonder if that pay would be for the whole year, or only during the peak months.

I’m leaning to stick with job 1. Though there are aspects of this job I don’t really care for, those long holidays are hard to beat. I’m still at heart a classroom teacher, too. But the Shanghai job might pay quite a bit more.

Waiting for salary offers from both of them now.

Good on Minhaj. Sadly, as Rick Wilson often says: you can’t shake the shameless

Not having to move is itself a nice benefit.

One. Don’t stress yourself out, unless the $ is fantastic.
