Seth Meyers Mildly Disagrees With Meghan McCain and Absolutely Enrages Her Plagiarist Husband [VIDEO]

Politics • Views: 27,511

YouTube

The really entertaining part of this interview with Meghan McCain is when she gets really snitty (oh so snitty!) with Seth Meyers when he challenges the way she continues to attack Rep. Ilhan Omar over comments she sincerely apologized for.

This fairly mild criticism drove her husband Ben Domenech (founder of far right propaganda site The Federalist, who was fired from the Washington Post for plagiarizing several articles) into a frothing rage, leading him to tweet this lovely homophobic comment calling Seth Meyers “anti-Semitic.”

Conservatives say the darndest things.

They want women to die. They want women to suffer. They want women reminded that they exist solely for men, and any attempt at agency is subject to all the above reminders.

And the way things seem to be going, they may very well fucking get their way.

We were also talking about states who grant paternal rights for rapists. Those, I am sure, were instituted simply to have an argument against allowing abortion in cases of rape.

They’re not “pro-life” or even “pro-birth’ bills. They’re anti-woman “forced incubation” bills. And if the woman is forced to carry an un-viable pregnancy, even fatally so, then it’s ‘God’s Will’ that the woman was supposed to die, ho hum, guess she shouldn’t have been such a slut, next babymaker please!

It’s nothing less but a criminalization of womanhood.

- anything that inhibits implantation must be made illegal, like The Pill.
- Barrier methods that keep egg and sperm apart, (condoms) are fine.
- Even spermicides that kill sperm prior to fertilization are ok.
- Anything that does both (an IUD works to prevent fertilization and/or implantation) must be banned because the “preventing implantation” mechanism may come into play.
- Plan B is no good.

At the end of an individual human life, there seems to be general consensus among doctors, lawyers, clergy and laypeople that brain activity (or lack of) is how we draw the line between “human being to take care of” and “meat bag we can dismantle and use for parts.” I’d be happy to use that same criteria for the beginning of a human life.

Roe v Wade in fact uses that benchmark; anybody wanting an abortion after 22 weeks damn well better have a medical reason for it.

There’s a case before the US Supreme Court this term on that same issue. I suspect that the loophole is going to be closed, since Orrin Hatch and RBG agree on it. And even most of the opposition seems to be arguing more for nuance than a straight “no don’t do that”.

now we have to have a look at IVF

- the harvesting of eggs is fine. Eggs are not life apparently.
- Eggs can only be fertilized if implantation is certain, therefore eggs can be fertilized and immediately implanted.
- Eggs cannot be fertilized and frozen unless there is 100% certainty that every egg fertilized outside the body will be implanted. (Extremely stiff penalties if eggs are not used as life has been destroyed).
- This is not to say that the IVF process must succeed in a pregnancy, but if a zygote is formed, it must be implanted and given a chance.

- unfertilized eggs do not (currently) survive frozen. So while not specifically illegal, the process must be radically altered, or shelved until new techniques are developed. Whether IVF is playing god as far as conception is concerned, is not an issue - only the point at which life must be protected is.

no half measures //

“Potheads killed! Police fire 21,000 rounds, destroy hotel!”
A bong shaped like an AR-15 triggers reports of a gunman, California police say

An oddly shaped bong put California officers on high alert, police say.

A passerby Tuesday night spotted what looked like a rifle poking out the blinds of a third-floor hotel room and toward nearby police officers in San Diego, KGTV reported.

Officers evacuated the area around The Palms Hotel in the 500 block of Park Boulevard and halted a nearby trolley in the incident, KSWB reported.

Police also called a helicopter to the hotel about three blocks from Petco Park, where the San Diego Padres were about to play the New York Mets, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

But police say when officers investigated the hotel room, they found a couple with a gold bong, used for smoking marijuana, shaped like an AR-15 , according to the publication.

Police took the man and woman in the room into custody, but later released the woman, KSWB reported.

The man faces charges of pointing a replica gun at police, KGTV reported.

you know that’s not where I was going

im saying to be consistent, this has to be their position on:
birth control
IVF
stem cell research
abortion

oh, and they havent talked about forced cesarean’s yet:

- why force ‘babies’ to go through a birthing process that might not ‘succeed’? and right now we dont punish everyone involved if the hurdle is not crossed successfully (short of malpractice)

all other stages of human life post birth gain rights and privileges based solely on survival and age, but surviving the separation - this one stage - requires the passage of an obstacle course event, essentially as a nonparticipant.

if the ‘pre-born’ have rights but then the “baby” has to survive the gauntlet, and if it doesnt, nothing happens….why haven’t they talked about it yet

Over the past few days the internet seems to have become obsessed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s boyfriend, a web developer called Riley Roberts. Ocasio-Cortez is pretty quiet about her private life but Roberts makes an appearance in Knock Down the House, the new Netflix documentary about four women who ran in the 2018 midterm elections. And, though brief, his appearance generated rather heated discussion.

“THIS is what AOC’s boyfriend looks like?” one writer tweeted. “[I]ncredible scenes, truly representing all the ambitious and stunning millennial women shackled to boyfriends who look like bin raccoons out there.” The internet immediately rushed to the (actually very handsome) guy’s defense, and the tweet was later deleted. It didn’t escape Ocasio-Cortez’s attention, however, and the couple seem to have taken the raccoon comparisons with good humour. On Sunday AOC posted an Instagram clip of Roberts showing off a new haircut, with the caption: “The Internet roasted Riley into getting a haircut/glowup after #KnockDownTheHouse.”

I once ate a 12 egg omelet from Beth’s Cafe in Seattle. It was served on a large pizza tray, and under the omelet was probably four potatoes worth of hash browns. It was incredibly good, probably the best omelet I ever had honestly. I also then ate a couple of pancakes my mom didn’t finish. I don’t think I ate the rest of the day, but it was wholly worth it just to say I did it.

I remember later telling someone about it and I said, “it’s actually not that much” and they responded with “yes, it is!”

Yes, it’s what you’re thinking…

As we left Atlanta, we gave the horses free rein, and our great carriage set sail down the broad, cypress-lined highways. Our easy progress, however, was not to last. As the hours stretched on, an oppressive mist began to rise from the accursed marshes that surrounded us. Cedric and I spent uncountable hours peering into the gloom, and just as I was about to lose all hope, at the side of the road, a faded sign shewed forth:

“It’s the first congressional subpoena — that we know about — of one of President Trump’s children. The subpoena sets up a fight that’s unprecedented in the Trump era: A Republican committee chair pit against the Republican president’s eldest son.

Key detail: “The fact that they’re subpoenaing Trump Jr. is a strong signal that he declined a request to appear before the committee again.”

That doesn’t excuse him for what he did, nothing can. But it (bullying) may well have been a contributing factor. We will have to wait and see. Either way, it WILL put a negative light on the Trans community as a whole.

I was reading a story about Tom Petty on NPR’s web site, and this was one of the comments (it’s long so I’m putting it behind a button, but it’s a really nice read).

I’m a single full-time dad. My wife and I split just before my son Connor’s third birthday. I was faced with raising him on my own six days a week and it was somewhat terrifying: Will I be good at this? Am I going to mess him up somehow? How do I get him to eat anything other than chicken nuggets and mac and cheese? But, as I had done a lot of times in my life when I was stressed or in pain or scared, I turned to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The music would ease the stress, numb the pain, and make whatever I was scared of a lot less scary.

One day early in our us-against-the-world battle, we decided to set out for Southern California for a few days to leave the “real world” behind. I glanced in the rearview mirror and looked at Connor sleeping in his car seat, the endless desert stretched out behind him in the rear windshield. Again, the thought crossed my mind: How am I going to do this and do it well? Not even 10 seconds later, “I Won’t Back Down” came on the radio. I let out a loud “Ha!”

There was TP once again, letting me know that everything was going to be all right as long as I didn’t give up.

Fast-forward to a few years later. We’re in Hollywood in a guitar store because I wanted to buy a T-shirt. After I bought my shirt, I found Connor standing next to a three-quarter-size guitar. “Can I get this?” he asked. “I can learn to play Tom Petty songs with it.” We were on our last day of vacation, low on money. I checked my bank account. If I returned the T-shirt, if we ate fast food for dinner, and if we could get home on a tank of gas, we could pull it off. He slept with that guitar in the hotel that night. He was 6 years old.

Arriving home, he took lessons. The first song he learned? “I Won’t Back Down.” He soon played every day and learned one Heartbreakers song after another. A year later he asked for a “real” guitar, specifically a Telecaster, because TP played a Telecaster in concert when we saw him here in Phoenix.

He picked one out he liked, but it was $2,000. I never wanted to let him down, so I explained as best as I could why we couldn’t afford something like that. “But,” I said. “Maybe I could just make you one.”

I’d never made anything in my life. I didn’t own any tools. We lived in an apartment.

“OK!” he said.

Honestly, I thought it would just buy me some time to find him a cheaper one. But one of our golden rules is, “Do what you say you’re going to do.” So I found a cheap Telecaster on Craigslist and tore it down to refinish it, just to see if I could even do that. It turned out all right, so I started reading websites and books on how to make an electric guitar.

I ordered wood and parts off the Internet, and over the next few months, I made an electric guitar. I finished it about 30 minutes before Connor’s eighth-birthday party. I found out I was pretty good at it and made a couple more.

Looking at a block of wood one night in our apartment, mouth full of spaghetti, Connor looked up at me and said, “You could build one for Tom Petty. You make nice ones and he likes guitars.”

“I don’t think it works that way,” I said.

“Sure, but you didn’t think you could even make one and that happened,” he said. “We already have tickets to see them in LA in June, anyway. Plus, if you make him one I could give it to him and I’d get to meet him.” He smiled.

So, as any single dad/crazy person would do, I fired off a long email to Tom Petty’s management company that probably made them think I was bananas. A few weeks later, Evan from the company contacted me, said Tom got my email, and if I could bring the guitar to the show, there was a really good chance we’d get to give the guitar to Tom.

On the day of the show, we received a call from him letting us know that it was going to happen: Tom was going to meet us prior to the show so we could give him the guitar. Later at the Fonda Theatre, we were sitting in the lobby when Evan came to talk to us. “I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but … he wants to meet you on his bus. And no one gets to go on his bus.”

He led us to the back of the building and suddenly, I was standing next to my wide-eyed 9-year-old son, on Tom Petty’s tour bus, holding a guitar I built for him. A moment later, Tom emerged, with his wife, Dana, right behind him. He was larger than life (but actually shorter than I expected; onstage he looks 10 feet tall).

Tom smiled, walked right up to my son, leaned over and shook his hand and said, “Hey, you must be Connor. I’m Tom. Nice to meet you.” He then shook my hand, introduced us to Dana, and just fell into conversation with Connor. It was — and still is — surreal. He greeted us like family he’d never met. Despite Evan telling us the meeting would be brief, we spent a good 15 minutes on his bus.

He gushed over the guitar when we opened the case and gave it to him. As he went to put it back into the case, Connor was in conversation with Dana, so I leaned over to Tom. “There are no words, man,” I said. “Thank you so much for doing this. He’s going to remember this for the rest of his life.”

Tom looked at me and then down at the guitar.

“But look what you did for me,” he said. “I know these aren’t easy to make. And you thought enough of me to go through all this trouble.” He put his hand on his heart and said, “Really, I’m just touched. I’m humbled. Thank you for doing this for me.”

He gave Connor some guitar picks and signed a concert poster for him. We shook hands, he hugged Connor, and off we went back into the venue. We probably weren’t in there more than a couple minutes before the Heartbreakers took the stage.

About halfway through the show, a woman leaned over to me and said, “Your boy knows all the words to every song! He’s so cool! You’re such a great dad!” I thanked her and thought, “You have no idea where we were an hour ago.”

After the show, we went to a Denny’s and ate biscuits and gravy and rehashed the evening over the next few hours. We were too amped up to sleep.

“I’m curious,” I said to Connor. “Does this whole experience teach you anything?”

“Yeah,” he said, slurping on a chocolate shake. “Anything is possible. Anything.”

I seem to have something in my eye.

Interesting possible fertilizer reduction:

“…While it’s unlikely that one solution alone will be able to replace 100 percent of the synthetic fertilizer humans use, perhaps together these projects could make a serious dent in nitrogen pollution. Bennett hopes that Sierra Mixe and what his team has learned from it will be part of the nitrogen revolution, though he admits it’s a very long leap before his slimy corn fingers start producing nitrogen in conventional crops. He now wants to identify the genes that produce the aerial roots and pin down which of the thousands of microbes discovered in the mucilage are actually fixing the nitrogen.”

Apropos of our discussion yesterday about trying to save angry old white conservative voters from themselves, the WaPo has a piece about Trump’s former deputy campaign manager scamming the dimwit racist fucks out of their bingo money:

The political pitches and the snake-oil pitches are aimed at the same population of the angry and credulous, people who spend hours every day watching Fox News and then, when they get a letter asking them to contribute $45 (in honor of our 45th president!) to a group like the Presidential Coalition claiming to have Trump’s back, whip out the checkbook to give all those rotten libs the what-for.

Christ, the hits just keep on a-comin’ with the Grift.

Always the grift with the RWNJs. They steal money from gullible dimwits to run political campaigns that promise one thing … and then deliver another. And then they blame Democrats when their absurd promises can’t be kept.

Still John Cusak’s best movie.

All you need is some seed money to buy a list of suckers who have donated to conservative causes or given their names to a publication like Human Events or World Net Daily, and you’re off.

For instance, here’s a story about Dick Morris getting nearly $2 million in donations to fight Barack Obama, virtually none of which went to fighting Barack Obama. Here’s a story about tea party groups paying prominent conservative radio hosts to promote them, and using the proceeds to keep paying the radio hosts. Mike Huckabee uses his email list to hawk scam “biblical” cancer cures. Herman Cain will help you cure your erectile dysfunction. Ben Carson sold “glyconutrients.”

This story goes way back to the 1960s, when the rise of the conservative grass roots — and the mailing lists that they produced — created an opportunity for right-wingers of an entrepreneurial bent. As historian Rick Perlstein details, it amounted to a “strategic alliance of snake-oil vendors and conservative true believers … designed to corral fleeceable multitudes all in one place — and the formation of a cast of mind that makes it hard for either them or us to discern where the ideological con ended and the money con began.”

So this subpoena from Republicans from the Senate: Is this an actual interest in getting to the bottom of Don Jr.’s previous testimony (in other words, their reëlection chances are in trouble), or is it obfuscation (they’re trying to throw up chaff to hinder anything the House is trying to do)?

Wonkette, which regularly dunks on the Kardashians, is actually praising something Kim did.

In her prison reform idea, what was not known was she quietly funded the legal representation of seventeen non-violent drug offenders, along with funding their transition to freedom after released.

The not-for-profit organisation which she has been funding for this released that information today.

That is awesome! Good for her! I am very serious! She did a good thing, she is helping people, and she seems truly dedicated to this cause. It is certainly a better way to spend the $1 million she gets per Instagram post than anything else I can think of. When compared to what Paris Hilton is doing these days—which, I shit you not, is trying to promote her forthcoming single “My Best Friend’s Ass” —this is pretty freaking great.

Kardashian has also used her celebrity status to manipulate Donald Trump into signing The First Step Act and commuting the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, which is probably the least terrible thing he has ever done. Kardashian is not particularly fond of him (and reportedly took some time to “educate” Kanye about how terrible Trump is when he was going through his MAGA phase), but was willing to do whatever it took to free this woman. Even if it meant having to smile during a photo-op with him.

I thought Kim Kardashian’s “apprentice to a lawyer” thing was mere vanity, but this makes me think there might be something to it. Strictly, at two weeks no foetus exists (since pregnancy is counted from the last day of menstruation), at two weeks the most you can have is an egg.

Self-awareness doesn’t seem to be the whole extent of the problem here: just WHY would Kamala Harris not be eligible to run for President? Her parents were (presumably legal) immigrants who had been living (presumably legally) in the US some years prior to Kamala’s birth (in Oakland). Thus, the Senator is a “natural-born citizen”, and well qualified to become President (in more ways than one: she would certainly be an improvement on the incumbent).

LOL, of course.
America’s Republican Form of Government
by Kurt St. Angelo
amazon.com this universe there are two forms of government: republican and non-republican. The U.S. constitution promises all Americans the republican form. Monarchies (rule by one), oligarchies (rule by the few) and democracies (rule by the majority) are each of the non-republican form. Each of these versions are characterized by government’s sole reliance on Man’s written and decreed law, called positive law. In contrast, republican governments rely on two kinds of law: both Man’s positive written law and Nature’s unwritten law. In a republic, Nature — and not Man — defines such concepts as case, crime, property, gender, marriage and natural born citizen. If republican legislatures could define the meaning of crime, then they could define who belongs in jail. If Congress could define the meaning of natural born citizen, then it could allow a foreign king to be U.S. President. Instead, as this book demonstrates, natural law - and not Man’s positive law - determines both who are criminals and who are authentic U.S. Presidents. America’s republics cannot exist without recognizing the duality of natural and positive law. Thus, the U.S. constitution’s guarantee of a republican form of government cannot be fulfilled without understanding the political laws of Nature. When attorneys and government officials take oaths to the U.S. constitution, then they are taking oaths to uphold the republican form of government. Because this is the first book to define the republican form, then it is essential reading for such oath takers. As well, it is through this book that U.S. citizens can fully understand the meaning of their citizenship and the scope of their political rights.

I was looking up info on a CT attorney who was disiplined and I came across this little nugget.

Paul Manafort Jr.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort Jr. was barred from ever practicing law in Connecticut.

The Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel brought its presentment case against the 69-year-old New Britain native late last year in light of his guilty pleas on two conspiracy counts. Manafort, who now lives in Virginia, could face more than 10 years in prison when he is sentenced in two separate court hearings this week and next week.

Very much drive-by, probably be a bit before I jump back.

My mother died last night. Three of her daughters gathered around her; three of her grandkids with us. My poor college kid holding her hand and crying, trying desperately to hold her here, to give her his strength.

She knew she was home. She knew we were there. She was where she wanted to be. But she’d slept most of the time since we got her home, only flashes of response. I wanted longer, I wanted her to have time to enjoy the sensation of being home, to see her great-granddaughter play, to see there were things worth fighting for, worth staying with us. But she was so tired after the ordeal of the hospital, had lost so much strength.

I am certain she is with the Lord she believed in. I am sure that she is at peace, finally out of pain. She went gentle, but I’m still raging against the dying of the light.

I wasn’t ready yet, dammit.

You never are ready.

But you also have to realize that the only way to avoid it is to have her outlive you - and you do not want to inflict that loss on her. The best you can do is keep her in your memories* and move on and carry on living in a way that would make her proud of you.

This is a good article on the we’re a republic not a democracy bullshit.

The most impressive thing about the ubiquitous comment-section incantation “We’re a republic, not a democracy” is its versatility. Those six simple words fill the very different needs of several key demographics in the ascendant right.

For glib elitist types who openly believe in their own superiority, it is a straightforward endorsement of paternalistic, Burkean, “your interests, not your will” representation. To Fox News Stepdads who have spent decades venerating the Founding Fathers and the Constitution, it is an appeal to authority—So was it written, by the great Men themselves!—with the condescending tone natural to the mediocre white guy who doesn’t know what he’s talking about but is certain of its accuracy. And in the most common scenario, it is simply a way to create the appearance of having said something profound while saying nothing at all.

In the end, invoking republicanism is little more than a way out for the many Americans who honestly think they support government Of, By, and For the People but are perfectly happy with undemocratic processes that produce the outcomes they want.

In every usage it is a statement of simple fact relying on a definition of “democracy” that nobody uses. It is, in short, the essence of a dumb person’s idea of what something smart would sound like. Checkmate, libs.

With 8 guns, I fall into this group. There are 2 reasons for this, my sense of history, and the local feral hog population. Thanks to the eradication of apex predators, the latter pests grow in number and range every day. They are hard to hunt and allowing sport hunters onto your land to go after them can often do more harm than good. I have heard all kinds of horror stories about clueless slob hunters shooting up livestock, vehicles, buildings and sometimes each other, with little effect on the wily hogs. List behind barrier.

Yeah, me and my mom went sightseeing across the bay to PC proper while we were staying in PCB back in April; the further east we went, the more fucked up it still was, several months out. You glanced off Lynn Haven, then. It was the worst-hit in that area. Our last trip to the FL/GA/AL border showed lots of damage and blue tarps, even last month. Our useless GOP congresswoman makes a point of bitching about Democratic obstruction of the relief purse at every opportunity.
