You’re sure we haven’t already, except that it was just an oncoming train?

Everyone’s world ends one day, and on certain days a lot of folks’ end at once. It looks like those type of days are about to become distrubingly common.

Mueller *was* with the FBI. As Special Counsel, he’s an independent investigator. It is true, however, that the FBI has their own investigations going on.

I think at this point you have to look at all alternatives (and breaking up CA may indeed be one, but not in such a way as for only SF and LA to be capitals of blue states unless there are only three created). Another suggested one was to somehow make the bribes so strong that there’s #OneDakota, which would help somewhat. And of course, granting statehood to the remaining territories. 16 Senators for half the country is something that even the Founding Fathers never intended and had it started happening in their era, the OP agrees THEY would have done “something” about it.

Boy, a pack of coyotes just sounded off right outside my door. I don’t want them bothering the horse, or going after my feral kitties, so I yelled and banged on the house and waved the flashlight around. Packs were in full cry off to the north and to the west, so there was quite a conclave going on. Haven’t heard them that close in many a long month.

My new theory (which I swear I developed before this episode) is that this ends with the Seven Kingdoms again being 7 kingdoms.

I could see something like Tyrion as King of the Rock, Sansa as Queen in the North, Robin Arryn as King of the Vale, whoever the new prince of Dorne is, Yara Greyjoy ruling the Iron Islands, maybe Gendry as king of the stormlands ruling from Storm’s End. But I don’t know who rules the Reach…

Of course, he could be doing the George Forman thing — naming all his sons Aegon.//

I agree with you- always thought it would be Aemon. In any case, I think the past three seasons are the Barr interpretation of GRRM. But unfortunately, we’ll never see the unredacted novels. I refuse to believe much of what the showrunners did is actually George’s will. The books and the show have so diverged, they are different animals.

What material is it? If it’s aluminium, boil water in once or twice it so it darkens to regenerate the oxide layer, or your coffee will taste like a chemical factory. This is also a good rule to follow with any Aluminium kitchen implement.

The coffee, is it something which still tastes like the froth from the bottom of hells dumpster when milk/cream and sweeteners are added? If it is acceptable, one thing to consider is making iced coffee. Also, some types of coffee are very sensitive to standing with the heat on, the rule in the house of Teukka is to transfer the coffee to a thermos or turn off the power once the brewing machine is done.

It is a glass pot and a Cuisinart brand with a tapered gold filter. The “clean” light comes on and won’t go off until I run the clean cycle. I just used straight vinegar, and again with water to flush. I really think it is the coffee I use. I thought about donating it to the local food pantry, but I really didn’t want to inflict that kind of suffering. Maybe to my local church.

I used to buy cheap coffee. Now I get this instead: smile.amazon.com

Boil some water, let stand for a a couple of minutes adn a much better cuppa than 90% of the coffee i used to drink.

I’d suggest “flushing” a couple more times without coffee in the filter. And btw, maybe the problem is in the water, not the coffeemaker. If your “clean” light isn’t timed, it probably means you have mineral buildup. We use [the finest] tap water [in the world] here in NYC, but at our summer place, where the water is moderately hard, we’ve never used anything but filtered water for tea or coffee, maybe that will help.

Oh, and cheap/bad coffee never helps. Sorry about that.

Basic rule of thumb is keep any part that touches coffee grounds or liquid coffee as clean as a whistle. Rinse with lots of water, unless you like the flavor of dish detergent. Vinegar is good for removing scale inside coffee makers, but rinse rinse rinse after treatment.

But if your coffee beans/ground coffee are shite, then all is lost.

China tells Trump, “Oh yeah? Two can place this game!”

China says it will raise tariffs on $60 billion in U.S. goods starting June 1 after ‘escalation’ in trade frictions
The announcement from the Finance Ministry in Beijing comes days after the United States raised tariffs on some Chinese imports as talks to resolve a trade fight between the countries faltered.

China has not burned its bridges with other trading partners, either. In fact, it’s picking up the ones the USA has lost, thanks to Trump’s mercantilism.

China’s central bank can pump up the economy to cope with the trade war. China has huge gold reserves, and billions in US securities. Hard for me to say how the tariffs will affect JQ Public here, though.

So, just for the sake of review, in the past two weeks:

- The US-backed coup in Venezuela failed and the opposition leader had to take refuge in a foreign embassy to avoid arrest

- Kim not only got buddy-buddy with Putin in a very public meeting, but resumed missile tests after Donny took credit for having got the regime to bring a stop to them

- And now the US-China trade talks have effectively come to halt as Xi has called bullshit on Donny’s “negotiations” and also called his bluff on tariffs, knowing that the US economy is the Trump campaign’s only real card to play.

Trump’s potted plant advisers tell Trump what he wants to hear, and when they don’t, it ends their time in Trumpworld.

Kudlow is on the hot seat as the trade war continues to backfire on Trump, and Americans are paying an average of $500 more for goods thanks to Trump having no clue how tariffs work - Americans are the ones paying for the imported Chinese goods, not China.

Meanwhile, Chinese tariffs end up hitting American businesses trying to sell their goods in China, because they become more expensive, so the Chinese go elsewhere. We see that with the farmers - China is getting soybeans from places other than the US so American farmers got whacked. Trump offers up a bailout to the farmers for the damage Trump’s done to their livelihood.

What’s worse is that these folks who are harmed most continue voting for Trump. They think they’re winning? Trump lies/misinforms, and his base goes along with it no matter what.

No, people don’t vote in a vacuum. When they’re feeling comfortable, a lot of people will vote racism and controlling women (see 2000, 2016). When their livelihood and pocketbooks get hammered, they vote Democrat. And Trump really seems to be trying to repeat that.

From interview transcript:

DK: So congresswoman, you’ve created something of a stir by coming out in favor of a one-state solution, Israel and Palestine, and I think you may be the only Democrat who’s publicly supported a one-state solution, what is your vision for a one-state solution that meets both Palestinian and Israeli-Jewish national aspirations.

RT: Absolutely. Let me tell you, I mean, for me, just two weeks ago or so, we celebrated, but just took a moment I think in our country to remember the Holocaust. There’s kind of a calming feeling, I always tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust and the tragedy of the Holocaust and the fact that it was my ancestors, Palestinians who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in some ways had been wiped out…all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post the Holocaust, post the tragedy and horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And, I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right? In many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, right? And it was forced on them. And so, when I think about a one-state, I think about the fact, why can’t we do it in a better way where — and I don’t want people to do it in the name of Judaism, just like I don’t want people to use Islam in that way — it has to be done in the way of values around equality and around the fact that you shouldn’t oppress others so that you can feel free and safe. Why can’t we all be free and safe together?

In defense of Tlaib though, I don’t believe there is any rule, guideline or law requiring congresspeople to support Israel.

I think non-Jews and I’m among them need to look at the Holocaust as not the actions of good groups and bad groups but individuals. The Jewish people were specifically targeted by the Nazis for genocide. Yes, other groups suffered including the Slavic peoples and political groups like Socialists and Communists but the Jews were the group singled out. There were individuals in occupied Europe that did their best to help Europe’s Jews and there were individuals that did their worst to aid in the genocide of Europe’s Jews. I kind of get why Tlaid is a little defensive because so many on the right want to write off the Palestinian people as all being like the Mufti and all Christians as being like Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

My guess is that it would hurt him. Polling on abortion, in general, has been mostly pro-choice. Prohibiting “late trimester abortions” is one thing, but making the procedure illegal at any time for any reason would be a bridge too far, I think. Pro-birthers (which is what pro-lifers really are) would spooge for days, but they’re a minority.

On the other hand, Trump has defied the odds in so many ways, it might just help him. I mean, the Access Hollywood tape would have made it impossible for any other politician to be elected dog catcher, but Trump somehow overcame it.

Again, I can’t see attempting to overturn Griswold (allows married couples to use contraception) and Eisentadt (allows unmarried couples to do so) working. Roe works so well for them since it’s an easy issue to put in black and white terms. Clinton’s most critical mistake - worse than not campaigning in WI/MI/PA in the closing days - was not taking Trump seriously as a candidate. She, and a lot of people can be forgiven for that in one sense because….well look at him. He’s ridiculous for God’s sake. It seemed like we were watching the GOP commit Hari Kiri. What she, and a lot of people didn’t realize was that there was such a clamor for an outsider - and the right wing noise machine made it seem like Hillary would actually be a worse choice than Trump - that enough people in those three states (because those were the ones the put him over the top) reluctantly gave him a chance. 2020’s nominee has to take Trump and his record seriously, and detail how disastrous it has been and will continue to be if he is re-elected, while also emphasizing many of the horrors - Puerto Rico, child separation, this moronic trade war with China, and God forbid 1000 times any military action taken against Iran (to name just three).

And of course, while doing all of that, show that the emperor Fox “News” and right wing talk show hosts and podcasters really has no clothes, and that the GOPers who have supported him really have no principles whatsoever and are craven and corrupt, and that Trumpism is anything but an aberation (I love Joe Biden for so many reasons, but COME ON MAN!! It may be that but I think unfortunately as both are important issues that it’s going to be a lot harder for Roberts to invalidate the many same sex marriages currently legal than women who might need abortions in the future.

REALLY?).

It’s simple really.

So easy, a caveman could do it.

One thing I think she did too was recognize the unique danger he was compared to your average Republican nominee but at the same time, I do think they underestimated his appeal too. We all did. I am still shocked he won a single primary let alone the nomination and presidency. Because it’s Donald fucking Trump, a man who openly wondered about his baby daughter’s breast size and yes I know anti politician blah blah but you can’t tell me that anyone else who had that on their resume wouldn’t have been sunk in some way but somehow he survived. I don’t know man. There’s something deeply wrong with a lot of our electorate and Trump exposed that.

The masses have amnesia. It happened in 2000 too. I just hope it doesn’t happen again next decade or the following decade. I think I want a Harris-Castro ticket at this point. I know this. Whoever the Dem nominee will be made out to be the worst thing ever by the right. So I’ll take an experienced prosecutor who knows how to fight back and a guy who got to where he is through his own merits and both whom have fresh new ideas for the future.

I like Castro, but Warren is better on the stump. It’s difficult to see anyone with sufficient ego to run for POTUS saying to herself, ‘I’d be the best second fiddle’.

Available now on YouTube is the Polish documentary film Just Don’t Tell Anyone (Tylko nie mów nikomu) with English subtitles (use the closed caption option).

Father Franciszek Cybula, the former chaplain of president Lech Wałęsa, and Father Eugieniusz M, the custodian of the Shrine of our Lady of Sorrows and of the Basilica of Our Lady of Licheń, are among a number of priests who molested children, according to Just Don’t Tell Anyone, a documentary by Tomasz Sekielski.

Needless to say, this film is starting to cause a good deal of controversy in Poland, which is well-known as a heavily Catholic country.

In spoiler tag, because NSFW, and because it’s thematically disturbing.

Well did you see how the midterms turned out? The presidential election will have higher turnout. I honestly won’t be surprised if Trump has the worst re-election loss since Carter.

Big midterm losses for the incumbent party don’t always carry over to the next Presidential election. The Dems were “shellacked” in ‘94 and ‘10, yet Clinton and Obama essentially cruised to re-election. Bush didn’t, however after the Dem sweep in ‘06, so maybe..

The one factor that has undone incumbent Presidents is a primary challenge. Carter was badly damaged by Kennedy’s challenge in 1980, and HW Bush was by Buchanan. Weld doesn’t look like much of a threat to Trump right now, but maybe he’ll emerge as the place for Republicans who just can’t take it anymore to go once the primaries begin. If Weld does well enough in Iowa, NH…that could doom Trump. It might even cause him to drop out, a la LBJ in ‘68.

True but Clinton and Obama had rebounded by 1995 and 2011. Agree about the primary challenge. I’m hoping honestly someone like Kasich runs against him. Weld seems like a decent enough guy unlike Kasich but Kasich has actually run against Trump in the past and has an idea what works with 2010’s Republican voters. I don’t think Weld with all respect to him does. Another one who should run is probably Larry Hogan of Maryland. Kasich would be better though.

What’s depressing about this isn’t that a hate-monger like Liz Cheney would take two words out of context and twist them 180 degrees to smear Rashida Tlaib. That we’ve come to expect. What’s depressing is that she knows the smear will be amplified by the media, and she’s right.

I think those people look at one reliably unreliable source for an “amplifying quote” and then quit. This is the first thing I found when I went to see what the fuss was about.

Maybe you all need to stop relying entirely on the worst of the media for your information. Or consider that you somehow manage to get accurate news — if everything is RWNJ amplifications, just where do you think it’s coming from?

So, this Saturday, here in Ostrava, the long-abandoned Grossmann Villa will be open to the public for a tour before it’s renovated.

It’s a sad story - the man who built this lovely place committed suicide during the Great Depression, along with his wife, and the property was subsequently left abandoned. It was used in the Communist Era as a basic school, but it’s been empty since 1997.

Should be interesting.

This is not good. Tanker in the gulf was damaged in an attack, apparently small scale.

I’d drop your last two and add O’Rourke twice. Nobody is better at thinking and speaking on his feet.

I would vote for Sanders over a GOP person, but I would be hard pressed to say anything nice about him.

I like Beto, but he’s been a non-factor so far. He seems unsure of himself, especially after Buttiegieg stole his thunder. There’s still time for him to bounce back though.

I like Beto more than Pete. Agree there’s still time though but I think Beto may have waited too long.

I had her confused with Omar, but in their eyes, she does.

Which makes it okay for you to pass on the same crap. Good to know.

The people who destroyed keurigs over Hannity and think Happy Holidays on a paper cup is an outrage are mocking Milano? That’s cute.

LOL every woman I’ve ever known, regardless of orientation, enjoys the horizontal tango. I can say my ex-wife enjoyed it greatly and would often initiate such sexytimes. My girlfriend enjoys it as well.

What these hapless doggie dicks are really saying is, “I couldn’t get laid in a morgue”. And of course, that old double-standard - ….”a bitch is a woman who’s not interested in having sex with you. A slut is a woman who’d rather have sex with anyone else but you”.

My all-time favorite Dear Abby quote:

“There’s no such thing as frigid women. Just clumsy men.”

my point is that the RW pundits know that they can totally twist the words of our Muslim representatives and see them retweeted and spread as gospel truth.

because they are ill-disposed towards these women, headscarf or not.

I am pleased to report that the scrub jays who nested in a shrub outside our bedroom window had their little ones hatch out on Mothers’ Day. They are incredibly tiny. Little bits of fluff and very large mouths. We make Dad Jay kind of nervous, but Mom Jay is cool with us on the other side of the window.

Can’t really get good pics of the young ‘uns yet. The nest is pretty deep and they are pretty tiny, but I’ll see what I can do.

In one way though, overturning Roe may weaken them because what else will they have to rage against? Yeah Obergefell but I think Roe is a lot easier to rage against than Obergefell.

I am sure that they will turn against Loving vs Virginia after that as the next natural target.
