Lyrics:
Evolution takes a break, green becomes the only race
Freedom fades so far away, and the grim reap don’t care How much you made
Yeah…
Money money
Makes you rich I guess
Money money
Turns a no into a yes
Money money
Won’t turn me into a bitch
Money money
I need enough to just do this
This:

No plan B and no pullout, I sound the same with or without ($)
I’ll give the truth, not sell it out, I don’t wanna even sing About
About…

Money money
I won’t let it mess me up
Money money
Some freedom is enough
Freedom to do this
And this
And this
This

(its a song about not selling out)

(I practiced this slap bass part every day for 4 months, and its the only thing I can play on bass as of right now)

re: #323 Charles Johnson

Every time I think maybe I should relax and stop being so averse to Bernie Sanders he (or a spokesperson) goes on the record with something that pisses me off all over again and reminds me I was fucking done with him already.

Oh, Lord. Do I want you to tell me, or do I want to see his name start trending on Twitter?

They finally did it. They actually went and did it, found a position too whacky for Pat Robertson.

Pat Robertson: Alabama ‘has gone too far’ with ‘extreme’ abortion law

Televangelist Pat Robertson, who is opposed to abortion, criticized an anti-abortion bill passed by the Alabama legislature Tuesday as “extreme.”

“I think Alabama has gone too far,” he said during a Wednesday appearance on “The 700 Club”, referencing the bill’s 99-year maximum sentence for doctors who perform abortions and the fact that it does not provide exceptions for rape or incest cases.

He added that he does not think the bill would be upheld by the Supreme Court.

“It’s an extreme law, and they want to challenge Roe vs. Wade, but my humble view is that this is not the case we want to bring to the Supreme Court because I think this one will lose,” he said.

That’s the only thing I worry about her. There’s already a movement of hatred against her. It sucks but it makes me worry about how effective she would be. That said, she’s got a lot I like going for her.

HappyWarrior  May 15, 2019 • 6:09:21pm

This is a great reminder that all elections matter. My delegate is one of the most extremely right wing members of the VA state legislature. Our candidate isn’t running on a super liberal platform but she is a supporter of choice, reasonable gun laws, the LGBT community, expanding broadband internet access (we’re fairly rural here), and making the opoid crisis be handled humanely. I’m going to be sick if purity politics sinks us against Trump and beyond.

Watch her in action. She’s someone who won’t take any shit from Republicans!

It is funny about genetics and things like weather. My brother’s been looking at the part of Slovakia where our grandmother’s parents came from. My brother is a huge mountains guy. He loves winter sports and all that. He said he felt a special connection there just looking at the photos. We also on the Irish side come from a family- the O’Malley clan that were seafarers and I’ve always loved the ocean. Now I will admit that most of our love comes from our experiences but there is something to be said about this I think since our ancestors did live certain places for generations before they emigrated.

Can you guess the relationship between these states: Maine, California, Mississippi, and West Virginia?

These are the four that do not allow a religious exemption for vaccinations (when the Maine governor signs the bill).

Check out this quote from a Democrat Republican opposed to removing the exemption:

“We are pushing religious people out of our great state,” Sen. Lisa Keim, R-Dixfield, said before the vote. “And we will also be closing the door on religious people who may consider making Maine their home. We are fooling ourselves if we don’t believe an exodus would come about.”

78
FormerDirtDart 🍕🐀  May 15, 2019 • 8:22:30pm

Salt Lake County Attorney Sim Gill (D) declared that he would not enforce a Utah measure banning abortions after 18 weeks.

Gill, who oversees the county containing the Beehive State’s only two abortion clinics, said the prohibition was unconstitutional as a slew of states pass restrictions on the procedure.

The law, which was signed by Gov. Gary Herbert (R) in March, is currently being challenged in court.

“In our participatory democracy the Legislature is certainly free to pass legislation indicating what the law should be, the duty of a public prosecutor is to enforce the law as it currently stands,” Gill said in a statement Monday. “Residents of Salt Lake County deserve, and rightfully expect, that their fundamental rights will not be compromised by governmental bodies, whether by threat of criminal sanction or otherwise.

“Unless and until the United States Supreme Court weighs in with a contrary view of the scope of constitutional protection afforded to women, the DA’s Office will not enforce a law that is unconstitutional under existing precedent.”

Hello from Japan, which is fantastic. The food-last night we had wagyu beef in a shabu shabu at the ryokan in Karatsu. Wagyu is so tender. Now we’re on a bus to Onta, a tiny village part of Hita town. The village is devoted to a particular style of pottery and they prepare the clay using water hammers. I am having a great time!

As a long-time downtown Manhattanite, I miss the days when the cast and crew hung out with us neighborhood folks at the local bodegas (which no longer exist) and saloons (a couple of which still do). The last episode of the original show was not only filmed in my neighborhood joint, the Reade Street Pub, but in the background you can vaguely see the bartender played by the late and lamented local legend Mike Hickey, a born and bred Limerickian, perhaps most famous for 86-ing Frank McCourt for being too grab-assy with the ladies. Mike, who grew up with the McCourts in the Old Sod, was a true gentleman.

Anywho, I had the pleasure of witnessing Jerry Orbach’s billiard playing skills at the Raccoon Lodge (R.I.P.) on several occasions, and he was truly awesome on the felt. Everyone said Chris Noth was a nice guy, but as a short guy meself I tend to avoid giants.

If you’re still here, I have a question about something you’ve posted here before - that forced-birth clinic protestors actually took their gory placard imagery from autopsy/accident photos. Do you have a citation/source for that? The last time I looked, I couldn’t find one (and it would come in quite handy as a rebuttal to forced-birthers who also plaster that imagery online)

I’m pretty sure my local flock is of the Red-crowned amazon:

They gather in large flocks being noisiest in the morning and evening. The characteristic screeching heard of these birds usually occurs when they travel in a large flock to a new feeding area.

When they gather in a large flock I can hear them from blocks away.

A couple of years ago I was out for a walk and came across a local flock of parrots making quite a racket, more than usual. I looked up an figured out why - there were 4 or 5 red-tail hawks circling overhead.

Then all of a sudden I saw a green streak run across my path, followed by a brown blur.

One of the hawks was chasing a parrot. Don’t know if it caught it.

You know, if I were a less ethical person, I could be making some serious $$$ in the current grift-a-thon environment.

That’s right: this man says The Lord—the Almighty God who created the Universe, and who exists in the realm beyond space and time—told him this coin is the “point of contact” between people praying for President Trump’s success. And it’s only $45! And, as luck would have it, the same guy who spoke to God Himself about this coin is also selling the coin, right now!

“Every day, when you see it, remember: God put something in your hand that you have a role in,” says Doctor Lance. If you’d like it in your hand, God accepts major credit cards. The chyron very charitably calls this a “donation.”

“That’s why we’ve got to pray,” Doctor Lance continued, attempting to establish an in-group mentality where The American Way of Life is under siege, and the only way to save it is to pray while holding this 45-dollar coin. “Because they think we’re crazy. But we’re actually the sane ones.”

There are states that also ban total nudity, so they wear pasties & flesh-colored panties with a merkin.

A merkin being an old English word for a pubic hair wig.

Because nothing could be more ‘merkin than strippers wearing a fake bush over their flesh-colored bottoms in order not to violate the law.

Let’s be honest, what we have right now is a 5-4 majority that would be willing to not only let these two outrageous laws stand, but put an axe through RvW’s head with two words: “States rights.” Argue that the “settled law” was a mistake, that the Burger Court was wrong to “create” a right to abortion when it really should be a “state matter,” and instead put some extremely loose “rule” in place that relies upon subjective rather than objective reasoning (ex: “reasonable access”).

There’s an argument from the other end that if a right is not one spelled out in the Constitution, then it effectively doesn’t exist or only exists within whatever framework established by the government. That that right may be restricted or banned in whatever way the government in power allows.

I mean, I’m just putting out there the most likely argument, which is “states rights.” For all we know, the Roberts Court could lose their damned minds and hand down a “personhood” ruling stating that a fetus is a person in the eyes of the law.

Just came across my news feed:

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday declaring a national emergency, barring the use of telecommunications equipment made by companies that are deemed a threat to national security, clearing the way for an outright ban on products made by Huawei.

The Executive Order did not name China or Chinese companies specifically. However, separately, and soon after the order was signed, the US Commerce Department did just that.

The Commerce Department added Huawei and 70 affiliates to its “Entity List” after it concluded that the Chinese company was engaged in activities “contrary to US national security or foreign policy interests”. Inclusion in the list means that a US company, person or government agency purchasing Huawei equipment now requires a specific license “to export, reexport and/or transfer (in-country).”

The US government claims Huawei’s equipment poses a security risk because the company might acquiesce to demands from Beijing to allow access to networks and private user data - claims that the company and its chief executive, Ren Zhengfei, have repeatedly denied.

To be blunt, Greta may have had some assistance by her parents fame, but if Malena and Svante put Greta up to it, so would quite a number of parents all over the world. Like, I knew that someone like Greta would pop up eventually, simply because it’s that generations whose lives will be made miserable by the inability to act on climate change.

or any children in poverty. I have not ever see the people who decry the right to choose ever care about children who may go hungry. They really are “prolife” until birth. I refuse to call them pro life. Tehy’re not. If they were truly concerned, they would support things like better pre-natal care, helping poor and or single moms out, etc but nope they say shit like what Tucker did that it’s somehow a duty of rape victims to have their rapist’s child. And these are the people who insist that Muslims and other people can’t integrate into our society. There is zero difference between how they view women’s place in society than how ISIS does. Zero. That used to sound hyperbolic but I don’t think it is anymore.

Discussing this, remember that there are actually two new Alabama abortion laws this year. This one aimed at doctors (with the inclusion of a few other stupid ideas) and the earlier state constitutional amendment that implicitly criminalizes just about everyone involved. That amendment, voted on by the general public as part of the 2018 ballot, is passed but on the shelf, waiting until RvW is cleared out of the way.

It passed by 59%-41%.

Actually, this has has been going on for some time now.

The Pentagon bans Huawei and ZTE phones from retail stores on military bases

The US government has been making more significant moves against Chinese tech companies since December, although officials have been suspicious of the two companies since before then (such as in 2014 when Huawei was banned from bidding for US government contracts). In a Senate testimony this past February, six major US intelligence heads warned that American citizens shouldn’t use Huawei and ZTE products and services. In January, US lawmakers introduced a bill that would ban US government agencies from using the two companies’ phones and equipment.

I’ve always seen Roe v Wade as… did you ever get off the freeway at the wrong exit, sort of stumble around and make guesses about surface streets, but eventually you end up at the right place? It’s not the best way to get there, it’s certainly not the directions you’d give anyone else, but it works? Like that.

I don’t see abortion rights as a privacy matter; they called it that because they were trying to build off Griswold and Eisenstadt.

For me, it’s a 13th Amendment question, it’s about involuntary servitude. My uterus, my blood, my kidneys, my thyroid, the calcium in my bones, those are mine. Nobody else gets to use them without my consent. There’s a reason it’s called “labor”.

Forest burials are growing popular in Germany, although the Catholic Church finds it too “pagan” for their theological tastes.

How about a Tibetan sky funeral? (take your body to the top of a mountain, stake it out, let the vultures have at.)

Well, this is decidedly not good news, I’d say.

Every week dozens of metal flasks arrive at NOAA’s Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado, each one loaded with air from a distant corner of the world. Research chemist Ed Dlugokencky and his colleagues in the Global Monitoring Division catalog the canisters and then use a series of high-precision tools—a gas chromatograph, a flame ionization detector, sophisticated software—to measure how much carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane each flask contains.

These air samples—collected at observatories in Hawaii, Alaska, American Samoa, and Antarctica, and from tall towers, small aircraft, and volunteers on every continent—have been coming to Boulder for more than four decades, as part of one of the world’s longest-running greenhouse gas monitoring programs. The air in the flasks shows that the concentration of methane in the atmosphere had been steadily rising since 1983, before leveling off around 2000. “And then, boom, look at how it changes here,” Dlugokencky says, pointing at a graph on his computer screen. “This is really an abrupt change in the global methane budget, starting around 2007.”

The amount of methane in the atmosphere has been increasing ever since. And nobody really knows why. What’s more, no one saw it coming. Methane levels have been climbing more steeply than climate experts anticipated, to a degree “so unexpected that it was not considered in pathway models preparatory to the Paris Agreement,” as Dlugokencky and several coauthors noted in a recently published paper.

As the years plod on and the methane piles up, solving this mystery has taken on increasing urgency. Over a 20-year time frame, methane traps 86 times as much heat in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. It is responsible for about a quarter of total atmospheric warming to date. And while the steady increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide are deeply worrying, they are at least conforming to scientists’ expectations. Methane is not. Methane—arguably humanity’s earliest signature on the climate—is the wild card.

Under the legal principle of jus soli (law of the soil), such children are determined to be citizens, often offering a foothold for the parents to remain in the country as well. But is that a popular position for Democrats to run on?

Probably not as popular as you might think, despite the positive coverage such family situations receive on most cable news outlets. Scott Rasmussen recently conducted a poll on the subject, and support for anchor baby citizenship doesn’t even reach a majority.

I’ll put my tinfoil hat on: With the makeup of the SCOTUS today, the forced birthers actually have a good chance of challenging and overturning Roe. But, if Roe gets overturned, [most of the] forced birthers probably realize there will be a HUGE backlash from voters that oppose such overreach. There will be a Blue Wave that will set-back their party substantially. So, here’s my conspiracy: the Alabama forced birthers purposely passed a law so extreme that the SCOTUS will have no choice to either shoot it down or they will leave it to the lower courts (which will shoot it down). Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey’s end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You’re only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon
Why do the white gulls call
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home

And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don’t say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

And you’ll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon
Why do the white gulls call
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the west

That’s a possibility yes.

But let me add

NOT Retroactively. Nobody born here should get their citizenship taken away regardless of the status of their parents at their birth

And only as part of a comprehensive and humane reform package of immigration, naturalization and residency legislation.

Yeah because it’s a big part of why we’re so successful as a country at integrating people into our society. Again, just listen to yourself. You’re talking about revising 120 years of legal precedent that has worked. Millions of the men and women who helped us win WWII were birthright citizens. I’m sorry if I come off strong but you’re wanting us to give on an issue to people who want to reduce LEGAL immigration. I can’t do that. I can do with things like monitoring for criminal records and health risks at the borders but I will not accept the throwing children under the bus to satisfy anti-immigrant fanatics. Most people who oppose this don’t know a goddamned thing about immigration law and by humoring them you’re cosigning on that Know Nothingism.

Wendell, I deeply apologize if I’m coming off too harsh but as someone who has worked in immigration law in this country, I know how expensive and timely naturalization is. If we were to revise birth right citizenship, we would be making life very difficult for millions of people who know no home but the United States. My SiL’s cousins’ children got their citizenship this way. They attend American univeristies. They speak English. They hold jobs. They have ties to their parents home in Peru but it’s no different than my grandparents’ older siblings and cousins who did to Slovakia. You’re going to create a lot of potentially stateless people by getting rid of this and people who will feel like an outsider in their homes. Again I apologize if I come too harsh but I can’t compromise on this. I support things like making sure we are not getting criminals or people who are health risks nto the country and monitoring the border for ilegal substances being smuggled in like arms or drugs but if someone is following the law, they belong here IMO.

That. And the NT argument.

And Paul’s argument. The poor woman giving of her heart gives the better gift.
Also, do I remember correctly that the poor woman didn’t have the horn blown like the rich man? I have some vague recollection that when you do good/charity, if you do it for recognition, it is for nothing.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. I I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

In Judaism, there is a very useful multi-layered understanding of charity. It goes like this.

jewfaq.org:

Levels of Tzedakah
Certain kinds of tzedakah are considered more meritorious than others. The Talmud describes these different levels of tzedakah, and Rambam organized them into a list. The levels of charity, from the least meritorious to the most meritorious, are:

Giving begrudgingly
Giving less that you should, but giving it cheerfully.
Giving after being asked
Giving before being asked
Giving when you do not know the recipient’s identity, but the recipient knows your identity
Giving when you know the recipient’s identity, but the recipient doesn’t know your identity
Giving when neither party knows the other’s identity
Enabling the recipient to become self-reliant

We Christians need to understand this better.

As I was trying to explain to my (mostly) apolitical sister earlier, virtually the entire “argument” these for such bans hinges on emotional appeals. That means using incorrect terminology because it leads to more visceral responses, portraying the women who undergo abortions as “victims” of an uncaring system, and society at large as somehow suffering from “genocide.”

The pregnant woman always supersedes the fetus.

As it should.

That’s my understanding - because if an unborn fetus has rights of a person, it deprives the pregnant woman agency over their own body. A human life in being (having been born) takes precedent over an unborn.

I also think we should keep it in principle, but also reform issues of residency and work status. That is not what the President or his supporters want.

Okay, that’s a different matter. Personally the problem isn’t border crossing, it’s overstaying visas. Fix that not 120 year precedent on citizenship.

A random question… What is the rules for retroactive laws in the United States?
Just had this horrible thought of the-party-which-must-not-be-named imposing draconian and retroactive laws against abortion…

I did not say end it, I said that I would support revising it. I see that it is way too touchy an issue to broach here.

i know you didnt. i get what you’re saying and i dont disagree.

i was just typing fast and implying that, like abortion even a total ban wont change the actual numbers

The constitution forbids being punished retroactively.

So is the solution for the goobernmint to take over the private corporations that control the social media? This is some solid fascism here. The trains will be running on time, soon.

… because the US pulled out of the agreement and is provoking Iran by destroying their economy. It’s not our fault we had to attack Iran, they started it. Fuckers.

CONGRESS shall make no law…

Social Media Platforms are free to make their own rules.

They just cannot discriminate outright based on sex, race or religion.

After the goobernmint takes over the corporations in a good-old-fashioned fascist manner, then we shall be freeeeeeeee.

re: #384 Targetpractice

As I was trying to explain to my (mostly) apolitical sister earlier, virtually the entire “argument” these for such bans hinges on emotional appeals. That means using incorrect terminology because it leads to more visceral responses, portraying the women who undergo abortions as “victims” of an uncaring system, and society at large as somehow suffering from “genocide.”

That article by the self described ‘theocratic fascist’ (Matt Walsh) uses the phrase ‘abortion is a lifestyle choice for most women’. Just because you have had enough children, have career planning to do, are too young, too old…. It is irrelevant, but appeals to emotion are a valid weapon in the rhetoric of anti-choicers.

F me with a rusty spike and mark this day in history: I finally agree with Pat Robertson.

Robertson disagreed with it because he thought to was too extreme and that the Supremes would therefore not use it to overturn Roe vs Wade.
