A friend of mine had several abortions when she was in her teens. She doesn’t regret it but maintains they were all very, very tough decisions.

NO ONE enjoys abortion, contrary to what some of these right wing nutjobs think.

So I visit Twitter and see the trends:

And I tried to remember what I may have thought, way back, when I was in school and we’d get those weekly school-age magazines (forget what the titles were) that had world affairs and promises of the future - remember this was when the Apollo program was going strong - and how things were changing…

… and here I am in 2019 and the big news is about Alabama nitwits going all anti-woman, mixed in with diversions from entertainment (rock music and wrasslin’.)

This is not the future I was promised.

Maybe we won’t go to war under you necessarily but you might make it more likely that we go to war under one of your successors because you couldn’t understand the Iran deal that Obama made because you were more interested than repudiating everything Obama’s administration ever did to appease your racist base.

Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page(The Yardbirds) 1967.mpg
The Yardbirds also recorded “Stroll On”, a reworking of Tiny Bradshaw’s “Train Kept A-Rollin’”, recorded for Michelangelo Antonioni’s critically acclaimed film Blow-Up. Relf changed the song’s lyrics and title to avoid having to seek permission from the copyright holder. Their appearance in the film, about a hip fashion photographer (played by David Hemmings) undergoing an existential crisis in Swinging London, came after the Who declined and the In-Crowd were unable to attend the filming. Andy Warhol “Factory” band The Velvet Underground were also considered for the part but were unable to acquire UK work permits.[31] Director Antonioni instructed Beck to smash his guitar in emulation of the Who’s Pete Townshend.[32] The guitar that Beck destroys in the film was a cheap German-made Höfner instrument.

Hell and damn.

Air Force Academy special operations pilot accused of raping a child under the age of 12

A special operations pilot at the Air Force Academy is accused of rape, rape of a child and three counts of sexual abuse of a child, the school said Thursday.

Maj. Travis J. Burns will appear in military court Monday for an Article 32 hearing, which “is similar to a civilian grand jury proceeding,” an academy news release says. “The primary role of the hearing is to determine if probable cause exists to support the charge and its specifications.”

*snip*

The child involved in the alleged rape and repeated sexual abuses was under the age of 12, Burns’ charge sheet shows. Those alleged crimes happened in 2017 and 2018 in Colorado Springs.

An earlier rape is alleged to have occurred in December 2013 near Clovis, N.M., and involved a woman.

Way back at the beginning of Trump’s run, I was pounding the Internet insisting that the media (and people on political blogs) should call a lie a lie.

I kept getting tone policed, saying that shouldn’t be used by the media.

McDonald’s has entered the world of diplomacy.

McDonald’s in Austria offers hotline to embassy Might be a good thing, but I can’t help feeling that it has an Idiocracy vibe to it.

US citizens who need help in Austria can now head to their nearest branch of McDonald’s, because of an agreement signed by the fast-food giant.

The embassy says any American “in distress” or whose passport has been lost or stolen can get assistance from one Austria’s 194 McDonald’s joints.

Restaurant staff have been given the task of helping US citizens get in touch with the US embassy.

A 24-hour hotline to the embassy is part of the arrangement.

The embassy said it was ensuring that American citizens had every option available to get in touch when in need - “the #1 duty of every embassy around the world”.

Megan Hunt is a state senator representing part of Omaha. She is quite popular with Democrats across the state.

There are quite a few people here who want her to run against Gov. Ricketts in the next election. I’d be all for that.

I retweeted her last night. This one.

Then I looked through her timeline. She’s using her Twitter very similarly to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, which is smartly and not afraid of controversy or irony. And the fact that she’s a state senator in neighboring state, well, I gave Megan a follow. A theme I noticed in her timeline is young native Nebraskans that leave the state because it’s still a bigoted place in too many ways.
