This is the sort of ad hominem attack that plays well with the base and gets little or no pushback from the rest of the media

I offer these conclusions only after having read Mueller’s redacted report carefully and completely, having read or watched pertinent statements and testimony, and having discussed this matter with my staff, who thoroughly reviewed materials and provided me with further analysis.

In comparing Barr’s principal conclusions, congressional testimony, and other statements to Mueller’s report, it is clear that Barr intended to mislead the public about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s analysis and findings.

WaPo:

“…Prosecutors alleged in the new indictment that Assange and WikiLeaks “repeatedly encouraged sources with access to classified information to steal it” and give it to the anti-secrecy organization, posting on its website a “most wanted” list for leaks organized by country and saying the documents must be “likely to have political, diplomatic, ethical or historical impact on release.” They alleged that Manning responded to that clarion call, downloading nearly four completely government databases of war reports, Guantanamo Bay detainee assessments and State Department cables and turned them over to WikiLeaks.

The disclosures, prosecutors alleged, contained the names of local Afghans and Iraqis who had given information to the U.S., as well as other confidential sources for the U.S. government. They said the releases “put innocent people in grave danger simply because they provided information to the United States.”

Prosecutors seemed to distinguish Assange from a traditional publisher by his directions to Manning. They alleged, as they had previously, that Assange agreed to help Manning crack a password that might have helped cover their tracks — though the effort was apparently unsuccessful.

Justice Department officials could not immediately point to a successful prosecution of a case comparable to the charges filed against Assange.”

“…First Amendment advocates have expressed concerns that prosecuting Assange could set a dangerous precedent. President Obama’s administration declined to charge Assange with a crime out of concern that it would be too difficult to distinguish WikiLeaks from a news organization.

Floyd Abrams, an expert in First Amendment law, previously told the Post the 101-year-old act has long been viewed by press advocates as a “perpetually loaded gun that could too easily be aimed at the press, with ultimately Supreme Court interpretation unpredictable.”

“If it violated the Espionage Act for WikiLeaks to gather information from sources not permitted to release it and then publish it, then what American newspaper could be free from risk?” said Abrams, who practices at Cahill Gordon & Reindel in New York.

Under President Trump the Department of Justice revived its Assange investigation, but when he was charged under seal in 2017 it was with a narrow complaint that sidestepped such concerns by focusing on a single incident of attempted hacking.”

72
Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))  May 23, 2019 • 2:08:31pm

Kellyanne Conway’s version: she asked Pelosi if she would like to offer “a direct response to the president.”

“I don’t talk to staff,” Pelosi responded. “I talk directly to the president.

“Really great,” Conway replied. “That’s really pro-woman of you.”

And Conway goes on camera to describe Nancy as being arrogant and dismissive.

A slightly different wording to the quote:

Pelosi’s chief of staff Drew Hammill offered a slightly different version of events, telling CNBC that Pelosi actually told Conway, “I’m responding to the president, not staff.

The first wording makes her sound snooty and superior, the second version is simply the response of someone who is not going to waste her time with underlings after their boss stomps off in a huff.

In the Pentagon Papers case, NYT and WaPo had a valid 1st Amendment defense that kept them out of trouble.

Daniel Ellsberg did not.

The NYT and WaPo had nothing to do with stealing the stuff they published; it was just dropped in their laps.

Ellsberg would have gone to prison for life, except that some seriously over-the-top prosecutorial misconduct invalidated the whole thing. (they broke into his psychiatrist’s office and stole his medical records).

If the prosecutors had stuck to legitimate, established rules of evidence, they could have put him away for life. Which is a risk he understood, and willingly accepted, when he stole the documents.

Kellyanne Conway’s version: she asked Pelosi if she would like to offer “a direct response to the president.”

“I don’t talk to staff,” Pelosi responded. “I talk directly to the president.

“Really great,” Conway replied. “That’s really pro-woman of you.”

Women in power need to own their power. Too many women in power think they have to be nicer as women to make people comfortable and avoid the bitch stigma. Kellyanne apparently falls into that camp.

She is not the Speaker’s equal by virtue of them both being women. A serving wench is not a queen.

Why do the British get a pass on Agent Orange? They invented it and deployed it extensively in Malaya years before Vietnam. The British precedent, and the deafening lack of protest that greeted it, helped convince JFK that herbicide spraying was a legal tactic of war.

There is some evidence that 2-4-5T based defoliants (the term “agent orange” was coined years later) were used against the Mau Mau in Kenya in the early 50s. It was certainly sprayed there, the only question is one of intent.

The real persistent horror of Agent Orange is that it wasn’t Agent Orange. Dow (IIRC) contaminated it with dioxin in the manufacturing process.

The Japan trip is winding down. The last two days were spent hitting the tourist traps of Kyoto. Those would be Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, Arashayama, the Bamboo Forest and Fushimi Inari. Holy crap. Kinkaku-ji and Fushimi Inari were like the Tokyo subway during rush hour, and the other places were less crowded mainly because they weren’t crawling with junior high school students.

Today I have a shopping trip scheduled and if my feet hold out, a trip to the Kyoto Museum of Modern Art to view famous pottery.

The short fingered vulgarian is also coming here and I am fucking mortified. He is being taken to the last day of the May basho on Sunday. A basho is a 15 day series of sumo matches held every other month. It’s causing a massive security headache. They’re going to seat him near the dohyo (ring) in a chair, instead of sitting on zabutons like everyone else who pays the approx. $88 x 4 for box seats. They’re also talking about banning beer cans. Holy crap. People bring in big bags of beer and food to the Kokugikan, carrying bags emblazoned with the name of the beer company.

The other thing about sitting him near the dohyo is that rikishi get thrown out of the ring with amazing frequency. I would love to see the Secret Service go after a 400 pound rikishi who might land near Trump, but I will be either boarding a plane or taking off from KIX during that time period.

But THIS has me worried, wondering what kind of cheap-ass trash Trump is goingvto cone up with:

Trump has said he is having a trophy made for the sumo winner, which Japanese media have already informally dubbed the “Trump Cup.”

This seems ‘ungood’.

They say managers at the FAA pressure inspectors like them to ignore critical safety issues like corrosion or making sure vendors were FAA compliant and retaliated if inspectors refused to back off.

“I’ve been flat out told to back off,” one inspector said. “I’ve had airlines contact my management and ask them not to assign me any inspections to that airline.”

The other inspector said they’ve “repeatedly” been punished for finding a problem and reporting it and they’re not alone: “It’s very widespread.”

POST-RATIONAL
The PQ Test
by Jimmy Reynolds

Are you a conspiracy buff? Find out with our exclusive, self scoring PQ (Paranoia Quotient) test.

Directions: It’s simple. Each of the ten questions has four possible answers. Select the answer that you think is closest to the truth, then see the scoring guide at the end of the test. This is not a scientific test. Scientists don’t know everything anyway.

1. What is the government really hiding at Area 51?

A. Secret new aircraft and related technology
B. An illegal toxic waste dump.
C. UFOs and captured aliens.
D. The Russian submarine from Hunt for Red October.

2. Who really operates the mysterious black helicopters?

A. The U.S. Army. Dark green paint looks black against a bright sky, especially to sleepy-eyed Art Bell fans.
B. Some rich guys playing a practical joke with their corporate JetRanger.
C. The sinister Shadow Government’s secret force of UN monitors.
D. ‘I seen one of ‘em out between Idalou and Post. What would a helicopter be doin’ way out there? They gottabe UFOs in disguise.’

3. Who really killed JFK?
A. Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone.
B. A small gang of conspirators
C. An international conspiracy involving the CIA, FBI, the Pentagon, the media, the Mafia, [16,235 words deleted], space aliens, Atlantis survivors and the Plainview Flat Earth Society.
D. Nobody. He’s alive and well and living across from Elvis at Area 51.

4. Why do mainstream scientists reject Creationism?
A. It’s a convoluted pseudo-science with no real scientific merit.
B. They think it’s a crude attempt to sneak religion into the classroom
C. It threatens their prestige and job security interest.
D. They’ve been brainwashed by local witch covens and devil-cults.

5. Why did Art Bell announce his sudden retirement last fall?
A. It was probably a publicity stunt.
B. He had a sudden attack of conscience and rationality.
C. Skeptics kept writing him nasty letters.
D. The real Men In Black paid him a visit.

6. Why did Bell un-retire just as suddenly?
A. The wave of free publicity had exhausted itself.
B. Revenue projections cured him of conscience and rationality.
C. Psychics promised to protect him from Men In Black and hostile skeptics.
D. He is a man of vision and courage who will accept any risk to put the Truth before the American people.

7. Who really runs the United States?
A. Our elected leaders and a horde of civil-service bureaucrats.
B. Big Business and the Media.
C. Evil secret societies who manipulate history from behind the scenes.
D. The aliens at Area 51, with the help of highly paid agents who masquerade as skeptics and scoffers. [the checks are in the mail-JR]

8. Why can’t a new Suburban get 150 miles per gallon?
A. There isn’t that much chemical energy in a gallon of gasoline.
B. The technology would cost more than anyone is willing to pay.
C. The car companies aren’t as smart as the guys who advertise in the back of mechanic’s magazines.
D. Oil companies and car makers have suppressed the magic carburetor that would make it possible.

9. Why has SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) so far failed to locate alien intelligence.
A. The universe is very large and SETI lacks adequate funds for a faster search.
B. There may not be any aliens close enough to contact.
C. They HAVE succeeded and the government is covering it up.
D. The whole thing is a put-on. Aliens actually run SETI.

10. Why do UFO advocates place such great emphasis on cover-ups and conspiracies?
A. They have to account for the lack of hard evidence.
B. The movement attracts people who are pre-disposed to believe in ‘hidden truths’.
C. Excessive secrecy fuels suspicion and speculation.
D. There’s obviously a cover-up. The proof had to go somewhere.

11. What incentive do the world’s governments and scientists have to cover up the reality of alien visitations?
A. It doesn’t matter. It’s impossible that every government and almost every reputable astronomer in the world would go along with it for fifty seconds, let alone fifty years.
B. None. The military and most scientists would love for alien invaders/visitors to show up.
C. The worldwide shadow government knows that people would panic if they knew the Truth.
D. The economy would collapse if Earthlings knew about alien stuff like immortality pills, free energy, and big houses for everyone.

Scoring Guide: Give yourself 1 point for each ‘A’ answer, 2 for each ‘B’, 3 for a ‘C’, and 4 for a ‘D’.

Find your PQ below:

10-15 points: You’re a skeptic, but you may find that hard to believe.

16-29 points: You can be a consumer-unit in the new age of unstructured knowledge. You won’t be alone; there’s one born every minute.

30-40 points: Sell your guns and seek professional help.

I was thinking about fake videos and realized that someone should start a company now that certifies that a video was made by the people claiming to make it. So, a campaign video or a news video could get a certification by the company.

Wasn’t always so:
First flight over Everest: Squadron Leader Douglas Douglas-Hamilton, Lord Clydesdale, flying Westland WP-3 G-ACAZ, approaching the summit of Mt. Everest, 3 April 1933.

30,000 feet in an open cockpit biplane was a great adventure in and of itself.

And every mountaineer knows this picture: Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay at the summit, May 29 1953.

I was scared CENSORED when a tornado touched down a block away from our home in Ambridge PA. Worst thunderstorm we ever had there must have been dozens of lightning bolts going at the same time. the tornado then went thru the Ohio River and dissipated but when it was in the river we got the heaviest rains for a good 15 minutes…

Remark for Philly Pretzel: They just issued a tornado warning for Philadelphia.

Remark for Teleskiguy.

You might recall the discussion we had over the toll road around Denver (E-470) with their photograph tolling.

They never sent us a bill.

When I last lived in Massachusetts in the early Nineties, they used tickets and toll booths on the Mass. Pike. Today I found they use the same EZ-Pass system or photographic tolling. There are no toll takers or cash booths anywhere on the Mass. Pike.

Considering Colorado apparently didn’t recognise my license plate, I wonder if Massachusetts will. (The toll is a lot higher on the Mass. Pike,)

That makes me think that because there are so many different license plates that photographic tolling can’t catch them all (they are not Pokémon), and states like Missouri are printing their state names so small you can’t see it if you stand next to the car, I wonder if the tolling for those with EZ-Passes isn’t actually higher to make up for those of us the toll road cannot bill.
