Lyrics

When you climbed the hill of vision
As above so it was below
Through the apathy and derision
Each step ascending you took alone
And when they pin you in the corner
Pay no heed to their droning on
‘Cause you’re not going back where you don’t belong

Well you rose up through the ranks now
And you worked hard for your luck
You’ve only got yourself to thank now
You and everybody else in the book
And there are hidden hands to guide you
Other forces now at play
But you’ve got to learn to get out of their way

Oh, don’t settle
Oh, not yet
Oh, don’t settle
For less

May your song ring true and bright now
And be honed by your own hand
As the day gives way to night now
May it echo through the land
And when they turn your words against you
Try to grind you to the ground
Let them know that they might beat you
But they’ll never turn you round

Oh, don’t settle
Oh, not yet
Oh, don’t settle
For less

Well you sought no one’s allegiance
You were cowed by no one’s hand
You outgrew your antecedents
Worked your own corner of the land
And when they set their sights upon you
Come to mine the seam you struck
May you bid them well and wish them luck

Oh, don’t settle
Oh, not yet
Oh, don’t settle
And don’t forget what Liam Clancy said

No envy, no anger, no cruelty, no regrets
No jealousy, no rancour, no confusion; don’t forget
No enemy, no anger, no incredulity; show respect
No envy, no anger, no judgement on no one; lest you forget
Lest you forget what they did to you
Come on, rise off your knees, you’re not beaten yet
No envy, no anger, no judgement on no one; lest you forget

And you’re not going back where you don’t fit

I’m still ashamed of my French countrymen, but EU-wide projections are looking much better:
election-results.eu

The Social-Democratic block’s losses are quite limited in the end, and in terms of voting coalitions they are compensated by the gains of the Green and Liberal (ALDE) blocks.

So far, so good. The EU Parliament will keep its current Conservative leaning, but with a fairly strong left-wing and centrist counterbalance.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange.
washingtonpost.com

9
jaunte  May 26, 2019 • 1:34:18pm

“In May 2016, McCarthy signed up to serve as a Trump delegate at the Republican National Convention, breaking ranks with Ryan, who said he still was not ready to endorse the candidate. McCarthy’s relationship with Trump became so close that the president would sometimes refer to him as “my Kevin.”

10
jaunte  May 26, 2019 • 1:35:42pm
“…That’s when McCarthy brought the conversation about Russian meddling around to the DNC hack, Trump and Rohrabacher.

“I’ll guarantee you that’s what it is. . . . The Russians hacked the DNC and got the opp [opposition] research that they had on Trump,” McCarthy said with a laugh.

Ryan asked who the Russians “delivered” the opposition research to.

“There’s . . . there’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy said, drawing some laughter. “Swear to God,” McCarthy added.

“This is an off the record,” Ryan said.

Some lawmakers laughed at that.

“No leaks, all right?,” Ryan said, adding: “This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

“That’s how you know that we’re tight,” Scalise said.

“What’s said in the family stays in the family,” Ryan added.”

Traitors.

So, the rainforest isn’t so wet anymore:

In Southeast, Alaska is seeing its first extreme drought ever recorded, climatologists say

As usual, the headline doesn’t quite match what the article says. There have been recent dry years but the current criteria used to classify severity refers more to conditions in the lower 48 than Alaska. So, “extreme” is very subjective.

But, we have had a lower rainfall/snow fall which, in turn, have caused deficiencies in the water storage in our hydro-electric reservoirs.

You know, it’s rather hard to fault Donny for acting like he’s still the star of a reality TV show when the media keeps treating his administration like one. This is the sort of coverage that past presidents would have dreamed of, their cohorts treated less like scummy assholes trying to hide their crimes and more like contestants in a show trying to hold on against any increasingly negative audience. It’s like watching a season of Survivor where the person receiving the most positive press is the biggest asshole who keeps dragging their tribe down but yet avoiding being voted out.

Eggs to be legally reclassified as chicken in Alabama restaurants.

The moment an egg passes through a hen’s vagina, it becomes a chicken. To treat them any differently would be cruel and should be punished by God,’ said Billie Jean Bob Cooter.

especially since they always freak out when there is a blood spot in the egg (which has nothing to do with whether the egg is fertilized).

Greetings from central Oregon, where the weather has been mostly 10 degrees colder than average, windy and with occasional downpours or fog. Better than 100°, so there’s that.
We’ve done Newberry Nat’l Volcanic Monument, except for the higher elevations because it’s still pretty snowy, John Day Fossil Beds (Clarno and Painted Hills units-we did Sheep Rock a few years ago and it’s a long way from the Bend area where we’re staying) and we had a gorgeous day at Smith Rock State Park yesterday. Sunny, cool, perfect for hiking (and biking and cliff climbing, and dog walking) so it was overrun with people, but still worth it. We spent an hour or so watching a bald eagle nest, though not a lot happened. The eaglets are at the stage of some bouncing on the edge of the nest, so will probably fledge in a couple weeks. One of the parents (dad, I think) dropped by with a small meal and then sat around for a while until he took off and flew around in the area with the female for a couple minutes.

The nest with 2 eaglets is to the left of the tree trunk, dad eagle is sitting to the right of the trunk and a bit higher. Both near the top of the tree,. Not the best photo ever, but all I had along was my iPhone…

Anyway, Mr. C. and I have been very much enjoying not following the news or politics for a few days. Tomorrow we head west to the I-5 corridor and spend a few more days heading home. Exact plans are somewhat weather dependent, but lots of good options.
