From the tweet you posted, a response to it:

This response is BS. The names of the drugs are on the containers, and who they are prescribed for.

My epilepsy medication is a controlled substance. I have carried it into the United States, and into Canada, Germany, and Poland.

Just thought I’d post my thoughts on Biden saying he supports the Hyde Amendment. The President can’t repeal the Hyde Amendment anyway, only the Congress can. And Congress isn’t going to repeal the Hyde Amendment anytime soon. Even if the Democrats win 50 seats in the Senate, and abolish the filibuster, there will probably be a least a few centrist Democrats like Manchin who wouldn’t go along. Lets not tear ourselves up over distinctions that don’t make a difference; whoever the Democratic nominee ends up being, Trump must be defeated.

re: #2 NO SMOCKING GUN!

I do not support the Hyde Amendment.

Former Vice-President saying he supports it means he will not get my vote in the primaries (in the same way Mayor Pete Buttigieg won’t get it for his support of Vice-President Pence in a speech here in my state).

That said, if Smokin’ Joe became the nominee, I will not hesitate a moment in voting for him in the General Election.

His support of the Hyde Amendment shows his lack of support for women’s healthcare.

That’s fine, whenever you get to vote in a primary, you have to make a choice, and that is a reasonable distinction to make, especially when you recognize that whoever the Democratic nominee is, warts and all, he or she will be vastly preferable to another four years of Trump.

More BS conservative apologetics for seizing medications:

Because something like epilepsy can be diagnosed after a five-minute check. Like they do in the hospital my skinny butt.

They have no idea whether the person needs it. Just like every tourist who comes to the country with medications, or every citizen who returns with a prescription from a foreign country.

It’s not Border Patrol’s job to be medical doctors.

Conservatives do love the poorly educated though. It makes manipulating bigotry so much easier, and helps them rationalise why cruelty is necessary.

When Xtians tell me they support the Hyde Amendment because of their religious objections to abortion I ask them how they would feel if they needed blood transfusions and Jehovah’s Witnesses pressured Congress to pass a law shutting down blood banks?

Missed in all the crapola like Donald Trump making Independence Day about himself by giving a speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial (causing Juanita Jean’s to actually use a cussword):
juanitajean.com

… was this nugget:

Adam Lanza’s Psychiatrist Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault (goes to the Connecticut Post).

State police detectives investigating the Sandy Hook tragedy later interviewed former patients of Fox and uncovered sexual allegations against the psychiatrist, according to court documents.

A then 18-year-old Western Connecticut State University student, identified as Jane Doe in court records, had begun seeing Fox in 2011 for treatment of depression and an eating disorder, authorities said, and at some point, he began having sex with her.

The woman told investigators about the sexual relationship, saying she was “drugged up and out of my mind” on a cocktail of prescription drugs Fox prescribed, court documents state. The sexual encounters occurred at his Brookfield office and on a sailboat, he kept at Candlewood Lake, documents show.

Fox later surrendered his medical license and moved first to New Zealand and later Maine.

It’s Not Just Biden

A sampling of policy proposals from Biden’s leading rivals suggests the lifting of direct text from academic papers, think tanks or policy institutes — and the cribbing of facts without attribution — is fairly widespread on 2020 campaign websites.”

“A Politico review found previously published material on the official campaign websites of Sens. Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders, as well as frequent use of facts and data without citation on a number of others.”

it took less than a day to learn at least this much

re: The Hyde Amendment:

“But… If you are or have been a member of Congress — 15 people in this field — and you’ve voted for big spending packages, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve also voted for the amendment.”

“Elizabeth Warren voted for this bill twice. So did Michael Bennet, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O’Rourke, Eric Swalwell and others. Bernie Sanders voted no. “

once again - piling on one candidate, without context is disingenuous and bonehead level counterproductive

Both campaigns vastly outspent the Russians on facebook and everywhere else, I think we need to ask why the Russians were so much more effective, or if they really were that much more effective.

here’s the link i was looking for yesterday

Russia’s Manipulation of Twitter Far Bigger Than Believed
(NBC News & Politico via politicalwire.com)

A new study finds Russia’s infamous troll farm “conducted a campaign on Twitter before the 2016 elections that was larger, more coordinated and more effective than previously known,” Politico reports.

“The Internet Research Agency campaign may not only have had more sway — reaching large numbers of real users — than previously thought, it also demonstrated ample patience and might have generated income for some of the phony accounts.”

NBC News: “The IRA’s basic strategy was to use a small core of Twitter accounts to push out new content. And they harnessed a wider pool of automated accounts to amplify those messages. The operation was carefully planned, with accounts often registered months before they were used — well in advance of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”

re: #39 DangerMan

this morning, more of this story was picked up by electoral-vote.com

Russian Interference in 2016 Was Much Greater than We Thought

Now it appears that the interference was bigger and better than anyone had thought so far. That is the conclusion of a report from the Cybersecurity firm Symantec.

The company studied 3,900 Russian Twitter accounts and 10 million tweets. One conclusion was that the average time between an account being opened and the first tweet was 177 days. This means the Russians planned their attacks very carefully, months in advance. It wasn’t a matter of the Internet Research Agency in St. Petersburg hiring a bunch of kids off the street and telling them: “Start tweeting right now.”

The most retweeted account got 6 million retweets and fewer than 2,000 of those came from Russian accounts. In other words, once the Russians planted the seed with a tweet, it was the Americans who helped it grow into a giant tree. The technical term for Americans who unwittingly do the Kremlin’s work is “useful idiot.”

Most of the accounts were automated, but there was still a fair amount of manual intervention—for example, to change the wording of tweets to avoid having Twitter flagging them as bots.

Despite being former communists, some of the Russians tried to make money while they were at it. They did this by using link shorteners. The way that works is that the original tweeter uses a short link like link4.me. Every time someone clicks on the short link, they are shown an ad for a few seconds, then they are sent to the original content. The (Russian) poster gets paid a few pennies each time the short link is clicked. One Russian account may have made over $1 million this way.

The Symantec research concluded that the scale and impact of the disinformation campaign indicates a highly professional, well-coordinated, and well-funded effort. Something like that must have been run by someone in, or with experience in, the Russian intelligence services. Amateurs could never have pulled off something like this. (V)

like i said, the russians just harnessed it first:
- we believe everything that we read on the internet is true
- if you focus a message to reinforce bubble thinking, those folks will the rest of your work for you

this is a winner
politically astute

people need to learn that ‘impeachment’ is actually a multi-step process and a significant amount of ‘damage’ can be done in the early hearings and inquiry phase

if the house doesnt vote on articles, the senate is made impotent

During his state visit to Britain, which ended on Wednesday, President Trump sat down for an interview with the British television personality Piers Morgan, someone he considers a friend.

Stephen Colbert was not impressed with Morgan, who complimented Trump for “being on his best behavior” around Queen Elizabeth II.

“Is this how far we’ve sunk? We’re complimenting the president on being well behaved like he’s a dog? [Imitating talking to a dog] ‘Who’s a good president? Who’s a good president? Who is a good — yes, you are! Who is a good president? Who didn’t hump the queen’s leg? You didn’t! At least not on camera!’” — STEPHEN COLBERT

Nbc news (can’t link in this phone)

He thinks this is just another of his usual business negotiations where he can browbeat the other side into accepting his terms “or else”. Problem is that Beijing can just find customers for its goods elsewhere and there’s numerous countries wishing to make bank gobbling up market share of exports to China. Not to mention the huge difference from China, where it’s accepted that the government will use subsidies to prop up businesses hurt by this trade war, and the US where the people hardest hit are also the ones who bitch the loudest when offered a “hand-out.”

So I was supposed to come home from a business trip last night. Short flight from Phoenix to LAX. Going from the cool weather we have had in so cal to the desert led to me being miserable with sinus issues the whole trip. We get on the plane and boom power goes out at LAX, we’re delayed, we get deboarded, then boom Flight is cancelled. I could get a flight at 6 this morning, no they won’t give me my bags. It’s already 9 at night. So I rent a car, leave phoenix at 10, and drive all the way back to L.A. now I need to go get my bag and drop off the rental later this morning. Fun times. Oh and currently operating on 3.5 hrs sleep.

Donny’s trade war is having the desired effect:

Between this and the bitching about how such tariffs wouldn’t be necessary if the Dems would “drop the investigations and work with us,” I’m beginning to suspect that the White House know an economic crash is coming…and are preparing to blame “illegals” in a bid to ride a wave of white fright to a second term.

More thoughtworthy stuff from Craig Mazin, the creator of HBO’s miniseries “Chernobyl”, not only for science, but in general as well:
“To be a scientist is to be naive.
We are so focused on our search for truth, we fail to consider how few actually want us to find it.
But it is always there, whether we see it or not, whether we choose to or not.
The truth doesn’t care about our needs or wants.
It doesn’t care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions.
It will lie in wait for all time.”

About that ‘legal euthanasia in The Netherlands’ story that popped up yesterday: No, a 17-Year-Old Was Not Legally Euthanized in the Netherlands

If you got online today, you may have seen tragic headlines floating around about Noa Pothoven, a 17-year-old woman from the Netherlands who was legally euthanized after a lengthy battle with depression, PTSD and anorexia. It’s a sad, shocking story picked up by the National Review, the Daily Beast and Ozy. It’s also not accurate.

That threatens entire religious control structures. It’s not that religion has to be opposed by science, but so many of the religions require people not to question it.

The 92 recession killed the reelection of the president who “won” the first Gulf War. The 08 recession tanked the election of a Vietnam veteran who actually had voters on both sides.
There are a whole lot of people who vote their feelings when their pocketbooks aren’t affected. They’re the kind of people that think that if they had to put up with Obama, we can put up with Trump. That story changes really quickly when they get affected.

What killed Bush Sr’s candidacy was breaking his campaign promise of “No New Taxes.” The one-two combo of a recession and new taxes was enough to kill off any good will he’d won in GWI. And it was only when the Great Recession started digging a whole new level of Hell that McCain tried to divorce himself from Dubya by suggesting a campaign moratorium so he could run back to the Senate to “fix” it.

We really haven’t had a wingnut candidate yet who tried to run a reelection campaign by promising to punish an entire foreign nation for dragging the economy down.
