This is a seriously fucked up story.

CNN - A German serial killer nurse was jailed for life on Thursday for the murder of 85 patients in his care, according to a statement from a court in the northwest city of Oldenburg.

Niels Hoegel, a 42-year-old former nurse who is considered Germany’s deadliest post-war serial killer, was sentenced to life in prison at the District Court of Oldenburg.
While summing up the trial, the judge said Hoegel’s actions were “incomprehensible: That’s the word that characterizes this.”

The health worker had previously confessed to killing 100 patients — aged between 34 and 96 years old — at two hospitals in northern Germany between 2000 and 2005. However Hoegel was acquitted of 15 cases on Thursday because there was not enough evidence.

Hoegel was accused of giving his victims various non-prescribed drugs, in an attempt to show off his resuscitation skills to colleagues and fight off boredom.

In past hearings, Hoegel said he felt euphoric when he managed to bring a patient back to life, and devastated when he failed.

Police suspect the true death toll may be as high as 200, but can’t be certain as many patients were cremated before autopsies could be performed, reported Agence France-Presse news (AFP) agency.

“and fight off boredom.”

I just can’t even. Fuck this asshole eighteen different ways.

HI-POINT WANTS THE YOU TO NAME THEIR NEW PISTOL (VIDEO)

Ohio-based budget gun maker Hi-Point has put the bragging rights to name their next generation of 9mm pistol on the table.

Still lacking an official name to their pending 2nd Gen blowback-action semi-auto, Hi-Point is inviting the public to do just that via their “Name The Nine” contest. The first phase, to start Wednesday afternoon and run through June 13, will be to garner name suggestions through the company’s homepage.

Besides eternal bragging rights, the lucky winner will get one of the first production pistols. Price hadn’t been set but existing Hi-Points are usually less than $200.

I’d say “Boat Anchor” given the weight of the slides since they’re all pure blowback designs despite the chamber pressures of 9mm or .45 ACP.

Sometimes, I like Bezos. Other times he comes off as arrogant and pretentious.

I think to build a business from nothing into a multibillion dollar global entity, arrogance and pretentiousness are basic requirements. Hell, on some level, I think they’re something you need to start any business. But the more successful you become, and the bigger the business becomes, you can be blinded by them - it’s part of the founder’s syndrome. So much of the business is tied (in their minds at least) to their own identity, so any success must be because of all the things they did.

it is also very likely, and common, that the very skills they had, and used, to build said business from scratch are not applicable to managing an actual robust going concern

Yeah, that’s a large part of the founder’s syndrome too.

The irony is often that someone starts a business because they want to do something, but the bigger the business becomes, the less they get to do that thing.

re: #30 Backwoods_Sleuth

They’re not even banning the guy from the service. They’re just not letting him profit from advertisements on his videos.

YouTube on Wednesday announced it will no longer allow a conservative commentator accused of online harassment to make money from ads on his videos, just one day after the company said he had not broken any of the platform’s rules.

In a tweet, YouTube said it has “suspended” conservative personality Steven Crowder’s “monetization,” a penalty that means Crowder will continue to stay on the site but will not be able to collect ad revenue.

So, yeah, congrats Crowder, you’re just like the rest of us schmucks who have to earn an honest living.

my opinion in general is that they are and should be treated like private property
no one is forced to use any of them
no one needs to use them
they dont perform a vital service (says me)
you choose to visit, or squat or whatever, you agree to follow the house rules
the house rules are more or less evenhanded

i can see that they may require some regulation if they dont do some serious self reflection and correction

emerging public policy issues like dealing with hate groups and speech, infiltration and lying on a massive scale to influence elections, markets, behaviour, etc, (whether by humans or bots) or merely enforcing rules in an arbitrary and capricious way

Strange internet rabbithole of the day…

I was looking for the Ahmed Jabral ‘Comme Si Comme Ca’ piece and ended up, for some strange reason, at:

The Muppet song “Mahna Mahna”:

Muppet Show - Mahna Mahna…m HD 720p bacco… Original!

Apparently it is a 1968 Piero Umiliani song. Most famously used in the sauna scene of a 1971 Italian soft-core porn movie titled “Svezia, inferno e paradiso”. (Sweden, Heaven and Hell). For those curious, both 1968 version of song and the sauna scene are on YouTube. No word on how the Muppet writers found it, though.

Now back to travel fiascos of our National embarrassment…

But we also know that if Republicans are in a minority they will behave as they do now. They will claim that a President who is a Democrat has committed terrible offenses that the Democrats are ignoring. They did this back in 1994 under Bill Clinton and there is no reason to think that the modern Republican party will do anything differently now. Until the modern Republican party is dead and replaced by a party led by politicians such as William Weld or Nelson Rockefeller, we have to be careful about these investigations.

re: #236 Hecuba’s daughter

But we also know that if Republicans are in a minority they will behave as they do now. They will claim that a President who is a Democrat has committed terrible offenses that the Democrats are ignoring. They did this back in 1994 under Bill Clinton and there is no reason to think that the modern Republican party will do anything differently now. Until the modern Republican party is dead and replaced by a party led by politicians such as William Weld or Nelson Rockefeller, we have to be careful about these investigations.

And the only way we’re going to make that happen is for Democrats to win it all in 2020 and keep it in 2022.

I just found out today that freaking Jello Biafra did a cover of Dr. John’s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters.”

LOL “Morrison was obliged to record exactly 36 songs for his old label” So he did. All about 1:30 min and all sound like this

I saw Neil in concert in the ’80s when he did a show that was half his “Everybody’s Rockin’” stuff and half “Transformer Man.” He even had a guy as a sports commentator come up on screen at “halftime” to discuss Neil’s strategy for ending the show. For overtime he played a few hits on acoustic and on piano. I have a special fondness for “Re-ac-tor”

We should put him behind a space wall and make the Martians pay for it.

Fat-shaming is still legal.

So I wouldn’t wear it, but that was just stupid on the part of the manager. It’s an obvious case of fat-shaming, which, as you said, is still legal. I’d note there are people who show up to work at my evil too big to fail employer dressed like that (mostly in July and August, when it’s 115 outside). Nobody cares, although I wonder how they stay warm, because the whole complex is cooled for the benefit of the racks and racks of servers in the data center next door and not for the benefit of humans.

And 2024 and 2026 and 2028 and 2030 and …. And it will have to be a large enough majority so we can pass legislation without filibusters.
