Watching the Bethesda Studios reveals on the official E3 live stream.

Among the new games being revealed today are two new Wolfenstein titles. “Double up on stabbing, shooting and killing Nazis” - that’ll be triggering a lot of alt-righters tonight…

I think it’s a sign of how jaded I’ve become about the state of the games industry that I’m not even really paying attention to E3 this year. Between EA, Activision, and Bethesda’s fuck-ups in the past year, I just can’t feel excited right now. Because anything that’s revealed at E3 has be to viewed with suspicion until it actually launches. All the big companies have just burned up too much good will for me to take anything they say at face value anymore.

Thankfully, I live in the nearer-the-bay east bay, where daytime temps will be about 10 degrees cooler on Monday, and the fog should come in on Tuesday. (The bad news is, I can’t complain, when everyone around me has it so much worse.)

The parts farther east have to wait another day for some relief.

“Societies reorganize, we move to different places, we develop technology and innovation,” he added. “I am convinced, I am convinced that we will do the things necessary as the climate changes.”

“We” (of course) being men like Mikey who will have money or influence to move to more hospitable places. The rest of us? “Fuck you, I got mine!”

Well, I got jaded years ago with my work on the software side of Dreamcast. Used to do game coding on the side until I got sick of the “work on spec” process that stiffed me out of pay the second time. Now the coding. jobs are overseas anyway…

I feel the same way about the bike industry. Sort of. It’s probably a lot smaller. The industry trade show was cancelled this year, not that I was going to go, which is how enough people feel about it that they cancelled it. At least the industry trade magazine was sold to an enthusiast publication by the trade organization that had taken hold of the trade show, too. There’s hope. But I sold my bike shop. Stay tuned for developments (the bike shop is staying sold).

We’re on the Peninsula, but at 500’ so we may have to wait another day for some cooling. That marine layer usually starts pretty thin.
I also see “they” are upping the forecasted temperature for Tuesday, so we’ll have to wait and see. We finally caved after dinner and turned on the A/C since it was 80° in the house. Down to 86° outside at nearly 8 pm. Sigh.

Watching the Bethesda E3 show now and I find myself again remembering why I was happy with their show last year. They come out of the gate owning up to their mistakes, even if they don’t dwell on them, then they start making clear how they’re listening to the fans rather than just shoveling shit out the door. Case in point, they’ve thanked fans for sticking with Fallout 76 and creating a positive community in-game, before moving on to a big update that addresses the biggest issue players had: the lack of human NPCs. They are working like Bungie did with Destiny, working to improve the game and get people playing, instead of following EA’s example of all but abandoning an unsuccessful game and moving on (*couAnthemgh*).

I’ve never had much time for gaming, so when I play games, they’re usually 30 years old or more. Graphics are pretty basic compared to current (but the limitations force them to be creative), but the plotlines are exceptional — and the bad ones have been weeded out.

Well, as long as you are discussing new games, what would you recommend for a guy who really only likes FPS like Doom, Unreal, Fallout 3 and 4. He did really also like Skyrim. Does not do well in online games. I’d like to get him something new.

Hase he played any of the Borderlands games? There’s a new one coming out soonish, and the older ones are good.

Edited for pronouns.

I don’t have ac, but it’s “only” 82 outside, so my fan, plus the crossdrafts, keeps it bearable. It almost never gets above 90 around here, although who knows what climate change will serve up.

Looking forward to my trip to Las Vegas next month, but not for the 105-110 degree weathet.

Surprise (not really)
Remember the oak tree donated by France, in memory of the US Marines that died in Northern France during WWI
And, remember how there was a ceremony planting it on the White House grounds. And, then it was dug up to sit in quarantine (as is required for all live plants).

Well, it died

Last time we drove through Las Vegas it was 113°. Ugh.

This house didn’t originally have A/C, but it was added when my parents got old and couldn’t tolerate heat well. As a retrofit, it’s not as efficient as it might be, but until the last few years we only ran it a couple days most summers. We seem to be using it a bit more lately. Still, speaking as someone who went to college in Stockton, and lived in southeastern PA for a few years, I have nothing to complain about here.

I am mostly in the only part of the friggin’ country that isn’t either roasting or freezing — or flooding, so I try to keep that in mind when the weather turns non-idyllic.
