They say we need to fix our broken immigration system. First, we need to fix a shattered Presidency. A morally diminished office subsumed by a con man and (as of yet unconvicted) criminal rapist who would be dictator.

This weekends threatened raids were a psychological attack. An act of infusing terror into immigrants legal or not.

Australia-Norway—what a game!

I’m reading Kurt Andersen’s Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire. It’s pretty good. One thing I hadn’t heard before: when someone asked Alexander Hamilton why there were no references to God in the Constitution he supposedly replied, “we forgot.” But it’s a good reminder that America has a rich—exceptional—history of fabulists, fraudsters, and credulous dupes.

Where do they find these hobgoblins who are willing to argue against science (yeah, yeah) but sleep deprivation is know to be unsafe. Not allowing anyone to wash or brush their teeth is unsanitary. These are not “boundries” as she put it, the are definitions. Again, where did the justice department dig up de facto evil people who would argue this? Pretty sure in five years no one is going to look at your brilliant argument of torturing children and say “damn, she’s a brilliant litigator, let’s hire her”.

Have you noticed the dual personality our Fake President displays?

First he announces an obnoxious action, then declares himself the “Hero” for stopping such action.

Rounding up “millions” of illegals.

Retaliation bombing of Iran.

Pardoning war criminals.

etc, etc, etc

Definitively something wrong upstairs.

I happened to have left the TV on this afternoon when MSNBC was showing Tulsi’s speech.

The silence when she hit what I guess were supposed to have been applause lines was deafening… and her response to that seemed so stiff and wooden.

And yet she likely has NO incentive to be an early dropout. Ugh.

Since NY passed a law that allows termination in late stages for reasons of the mother’s health or when it’s determined the fetus will not live, the GOP has decided to take it to it’s illogical conclusion and decided that it applies after birth.

How late after birth? There are some Republicans that I think probably deserve to be post-birth aborted./////

Here’s an article from the New Yorker, it’s an interview posted today with one of the attorneys who went out to the “Clint Facility” near El Paso. It’s heartbreaking.

newyorker.com
There are 350 children being held in a facility designed for 104. This is just a recipe for an epidemic (of something) to go racing through there. And since children are constantly being moved in and out of the Clint Facility, the chances of an epidemic (of something) being transferred around is very high.

This is an untenable situation.

Existing government offices are largely held by people who seem impervious to shame and protest. A more useful target of street action are the larger (hierarchic) churches like the RC, Episcopal, Methodist, Lutheran. They have a moral obligation to resist this shit in the name of their expressed beliefs. Shame the bishops into action.

They were convicted - of being brown people. Evidence - look at their skin. Judge, jury, executioner - ICE agents. It’s all a perfectly legal process.

On a lighter note (?) I got a shiny new ice cream maker for my birthday last week. So froze the base, ran out for heavy creme, milk, eggs, and real vanilla beans. Yikes those vanilla / Orchid seeds are costly. Of course we have a few things that could be added. But what makes the difference between okay and really good vanilla?

Sweet experimentation I guess.

Back when I was able to eat ice cream I would make a French Vanilla with egg yolks, Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Extract (which I got from Williams-Sonoma) and I would grind vanilla beans to a powder and add them in the ice cream mix. Put it in the maker and let it set and it was the 2nd best French Vanilla ice cream I ever had.

#1 on my list was Lady Borden’s Extra Premium French Vanilla.

But drip that Hershey’s syrup on the ice cream I made OR put a scoop on top of a slice of hot peach pie…

Reminds me I need to get out our ice cream maker and try some dairy free ice “cream.” (Son’s fiancee is dairy free. Mr. C. is gluten free. Nuts make my tongue sore. Cooking is so much fun around here…) I’d like to see what I can do with oat milk.

As for vanilla, anything you’re going to bake (cookies, cakes, etc.) you can get away with the artificial stuff. Otherwise, bite the bullet and fork out for the real vanilla. Even though one needs to take out a mortgage buy it these days.

“…Gensburger points out that the Nazi intentions in taking such low-value objects went beyond greed. “These images,” she writes, “show the extent to which the looting of Jewish possessions in all its various forms was, more than anything else, a process of destruction and anonymization.” Looked at this way, a photo of a room full of bedding is also an image of the erasure of Jewish homes.”

This is very true. Increasingly, radical right-wing Protestant churches have been viewing Catholics as “the enemy”. To be fair, Catholics have been pretty acrimonious towards Protestants in general throughout history, but it’s descended to a personal level of late.

Good luck with that. They won’t even call out the hateful churches in their midst. Why would they take on the government and risk their tithing stream?

Military members are required to disobey unlawful orders. Her Nuremberg defence has been rejected around the world in civil and military courts of virtually every nation including ours.

The CPPCG has article 4:

Persons committing genocide or any of the other acts enumerated in Article 3 shall be punished, whether they are constitutionally responsible rulers, public officials or private individuals.

International Law concerning War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity also have similar provisions denying immunity from prosecution regardless of rank or status.

Now guess, just once, which country is one of the countries that have made reservations against and want immunity from prosecution for Genocide, War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity? The United States of America.

Make no mistake, the reservation will mean nothing if evidence of severe enough violations of international law concerning Genocide, War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity is uncovered. The ICC and the International Community will act.

When the Trumpler admin throws its weight around making life difficult for ICC personnel, it will only have the effect of them trying covert methods of investigation and further justify a preliminary investigation.

And as a related note, below is a list of which acts fall under the jurisdiction of the
ICC, under international fucking law…

I think that it is at this juncture open letters to the ICC should be sent requesting an investigation into the actions of the Trumpler admin should be made. En masse.

I didn’t hear BDS during Bush’s term (but I didn’t pay attention to politics at that time - too busy being homeless then under the Conservative Cruelty to disabled veterans then).

During Obama’s term, conservatives were deranged.

IIRC, the term “Bush Derangement Syndrome” was coined by the right-wing blogosphere to paint critics of Bush’s Iraq War as wild-eyed loonies and delegitimize them. Clinton Derangement Syndrome definitely existed as a phenomenon in the nineties (see Jerry Falwell’s hawking of The Clinton Chronicles conspiracy videos) but we didn’t coin a term for it. We borrowed the “Derangement Syndrome” construction from the Right when they became truly unhinged with Obama, and the Right reclaimed it when they went back to the Bush-era playbook under Trumpolini.

Not conservatives. They’re tweeting support for these baby prisons, saying it’s protecting their children from getting murdered by “illegal invaders.”

Nothing new there; conservatives have been doing that all my life.

I have heard the “illegal invader” line from conservatives since I was a teen.

Since NY passed a law that allows termination in late stages for reasons of the mother’s health or when it’s determined the fetus will not live, the GOP has decided to take it to it’s illogical conclusion and decided that it applies after birth.

You mean that the GOP is going to lie about the procedure which is not killing a child after it has been born. If it were, it would be murder which is already covered by law(s). I’m sure the idiots in the GOP know this quite well.

This not having beds/housing for the children and families is just plain bullshit!! FEMA has 1,000’s of beds stockpiled in warehouses and semi-trailers. Here’s some photos of Bldg 136 at Kelly AFB in San Antonio after Hurricane Katina. These sleeping areas were occupied by hundreds of families at a time. Many nights there were over 2,000 people sleeping/living in this one building alone. Within a week of opening the facilities, numerous toilets and showers were installed. Kitchens, operated by churches and other charities were opened up and served basic, hot meals.

It can be done, but then again, we shouldn’t have to do this shit. Katrina was a natural disaster, this is a trump made disaster.

Some who want to self identify as “leftists” are just anarchists. They want to see the world burn, just like Trump. They may pretend its for some twisted notion of noble goals, but they still want to see the current world burn. This is why some “leftists” are gravitating towards the racists like Carlson.

Encinitas has always been on the upper end of costs in San Diego… “always” meaning at least since before I got here. It’s on the ocean and the neighboring communities are the most expensive in the county (and in the world for that matter.)

So yes, not a cheap place to vacation.

re: #97 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

This is very true. Increasingly, radical right-wing Protestant churches have been viewing Catholics as “the enemy”. To be fair, Catholics have been pretty acrimonious towards Protestants in general throughout history, but it’s descended to a personal level of late.

So where is the American catholic church on this? Too busy picketing gay bars and abortion clinics? Where is the Father Groppe for this generation?

I have to say, on this Sunday, that I have never been more certain that I made the right decision in dropping all faith in gods.

RE the vigil, a thought I had. So what if there is a vigil in New York? Philly? Los Angeles? Chicago? Just a bunch of liberal, nothing to see here.

BUT what if the were massive vigils in Birmingham, Little Rock, Jackson, Richmond, Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville? Here would be an opportunity for the huddled masses of Democrats in the red states to get out, get together, and call out their fucking neighbors and representatives for being disgusting.

I bet the media would cover that. And maybe make the Senators think twice.
