re: #2 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Sam Cheng bio (she’s at Arizona State):

Cheng’s research aims to improve understanding of the process of using scientific evidence in conservation planning and decision-making using a multi-disciplinary approach by systematically examining the role of evidence, methodology, interactions and stakeholders to determine effective pathways from information to action to outcome. Additionally, she is exploring the role that data science and technology play in improving the use of evidence in conservation. She runs two apps that facilitate and democratize evidence uptake (natureandpeopleevidence.org) and use machine learning (colandrapp.com) to help find evidence that matters.

Probably not a MAGAhead.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is aware of an email phishing scam that tricks users into clicking on malicious attachments that look like legitimate Department of Homeland Security (DHS) notifications. The email campaign uses a spoofed email address to appear like a National Cyber Awareness System (NCAS) alert and lure targeted recipients into downloading malware through a malicious attachment.

I backtracked along that twitter “thread,” and one of the people calling for action on the conditions in the concentration camps is one Matt Krause, Republican member of the TX legislature. I am surprise.

(But I haven’t heard that he’s against them… that would be an “I am flabbergast” moment.)

Trump has managed to fail upwards despite the worst business and political instincts.

I’m firmly of the belief that the impeachment process is the right thing to do - morally, politically, and any other way. There’s little doubt in my mind that even a limited impeachment inquiry (focusing on conspiracy with Russia and obstruction of justice) is going to crush him with public opinion. Add in the fact that he won’t be able to shut up during the process and the fact that every time he talks his numbers go down, and, well, it won’t be good for him.

Also, I’m also of the opinion that the impeachment inquiry should be wide ranging. It should include abuse of power (declaring emergencies), emoluments, nepotism (including granting security clearances against recommendations), and everything thing else we can put on the list

How Donald Trump Silenced the People Who Could Expose His Business Failures (by Jonathan Greenberg, goes to the Washington Post, more at the link):

How did Donald Trump, a self-serving promoter who lost billions of dollars for his investors, convince the world that he is a financial genius? It wasn’t just by fabricating tales of his success. It was also by bullying and silencing people who could have stopped those deceits — particularly reporters and Wall Street analysts — forcing all but a very few into a conspiracy of silence.

These tactics, which form a core element of his politics, were something I saw him hone firsthand in the 1980s and 1990s as Trump’s company was imploding.

I was the lead real estate wealth estimator for the Forbes 400 list in its early years. Trump called me twice in 1984, posing as his fictional “VP of finance” John Barron and professing the kind of riches that ought to land him on the list, despite failing to document them. So when a New York Times exposé last month showed that Trump had lost $1.1 billion between 1985 and 1994, I looked back at my archives and began calling old colleagues to compare these figures with what Trump was telling journalists three decades ago.

Much to the surprise of perhaps absolutely no one here:

A member of a border patriot group that patrolled southern New Mexico is facing two counts of impersonating an officer or employee of the United States.

James Christopher Benvie, 44, of Albany, Minnesota, could face up to three years in prison if convicted on both counts.

The U.S. Department of Justice, which announced the indictment in a news release, did not give specifics of the alleged offenses other than noting they happened in Doña Ana County on April 15 and April 17.

Benvie, who has been a spokesperson for at least two “patriot” groups, was arrested this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Not the first guy from the “United Constitutional Patriots” to face charges. Larry Mitchell Hopkins was arrested by the Feds in April for felon in possession of firearms. He was in Doña Ana County Detention Center but a search shows he’s currently not there. This is not surprising, since he was beaten by some other men being held there not long after he was arrested.

Well, I don’t know about that, but I’m currently engaged on my daughter’s texting with someone claiming to be a US soldier in Afghanistan with something like $10.5 million that she’s trying to get out of the country and trusts me. Lol I’m playing along and it’s kind of fun because it’s so obvious this person doesn’t speak English as their first language, but the photo is a blonde
white woman. My 12-year-old is telling me that the woman did give us a name and photo. It’s a learning experience because I told her when she has time to do a Google image search. I’m just doing this as a teachable moment for the children!

I’m not sure how a plant food could do that. I’m not a botanist, agricultural scientist, biologist (or any kind of -ist which requires college), but that doesn’t make sense to me.

Marrianne Williamson, Longtime Wacko Is Now a Dangerous Wacko (goes to The Daily Beast)

To most observers, Marianne Williamson’s quirky presidential candidacy is a footnote. She’s running at around 1 percent in the polls. Few Americans know who she is, even though she’s written a few best-sellers and has managed to qualify for the 20-person Democratic debate squad next week.

But that may change thanks to Williamson’s anti-vaxxer statement last week that policies requiring children to get life-saving vaccines is “Orwellian” and “draconian” and that the issue is “no different than the abortion debate.”

Now she’s headline news—at least in the context of the noxious, moronic, false, and dangerous anti-vaxxer conspiracy theory, which now has a Democratic presidential candidate backing it. (Donald Trump, of course, has backed it for years.)

Both manure and waste treatment sludge are prohibited in my state for use on food crops. (Manure can be used in personal gardens.) For crops not intended for human consumption (such as silage), there are restrictions on how it can be used (significant slope of the land, permanent water or streams, human dwellings or wells, &c all prohibit its use). Anyone who uses such thing as sewage discharge for irrigation or sludge for fertiliser must obtain a license to use it (which also requires them to conduct state sanitary tests on their crops, maintain useage logs, &c).

I’m not sure that guano is much of a fertiliser in the USA anymore.

It was a Christmas caroler who’s anti-vax mom got me with mumps in 2012.

If you change “schools” to “public spaces,” I’m not even in then. I lean toward “child abuse” equaling “I won’t vaccinate my kids.”

Since the autism thing has been beat to death, and people with autism are pushing back claiming antivaxxers are really bigots, they are starting to claim other nonsensical things such as “vaccines cause Teh Geyh (did you ever see any Geyh people before vaccines were mandatory), epilepsy (that one will get a blistering response from me), even ADD and AIDS.

Properly composted manure hit temperatures that should kill all bacteria, birds (guano) carry very few bacterial pathogens; in addition, not much modern commercial farming outside of “organic labeled” foods use such. Waste treatment sludge is all heat-treated to kill bacteria.

so we have a hedge fund manager who is betting on the spread of preventable diseases?

jolly brilliant business strategy.

It’s entirely possible that he is just a sociopath, showing his superiority over the consumer-unit masses by tricking them into killing their own children. Our financial system rewards pathological greed over other types of motivation like idealism, revenge, or personal vindication. It is reasonable that this pathology would manifest in other ways as well.

So, odd question.

I was just at the hardware store looking at hedge trimmers. I…don’t like any of them. Most of what I need to do is vertical trimming, but all of them are designed for horizontal movement.

Does anyone know if there is there an electric hedge trimmer that is built for vertical movement, or better yet, designed to switch the axis of movement?

Marrianne Williamson, Longtime Wacko Is Now a Dangerous Wacko (goes to The Daily Beast)

I had an argument on Twitter last night with some of Williamson’s wackos. My regular argument is to point out that measles is not an inconsequential disease and that my mother missed a year of school and was hard of hearing as a result. The response was that Williamson just wants more oversight. No, that’s not what she wants, she wants parents to be able to opt out of vaccines, which ruins herd immunity. I swear, these people are going to bring back polio.

I have first hand experience of what a dangerous asshole Williamson is.

Back in 1982-83 I worked overtime in the Hollywood Social Security office taking disability claims for sufferers of what was then called “GRID” on Saturdays and Sundays. They asked for a volunteer to do that because the staff refused. So I was basically there with another volunteer who would open and close the office. I took the claims and listened to the stories.

Learned about how two people were nothing but scam artists. First was the pimp priest running Covenant House Bruce Ritter who was pimping kids out to his clients. Kids told me story after story of how Ritter treated them like dirt. He demanded they get the money and give it to him. He played the pimp mind game on these kids and when they got sick, Ritter disowned them and tossed them out on the street.

Williamson is a slick operator telling her marks with HIV that they didn’t need to take AZT (which was the first approved medication) and they just needed to do the oils, vitamin C and other holistic shit. Oh, and Marianne made sure that these victims signed over all their possessions to her when they passed. This is the same crook who started Project Angel Food with cash she fleeced from Wayland Flowers and several other celebrities as they were dying.

Oh if you didn’t give sign everything over to that Pulpit Pimp, she acted just like Bruce Ritter and tossed you away.

I truly detest that CENSORED and when the Los Angeles Daily Kos group invited her to a meeting, I walked out on that witch.

This reminds me of the third season of the ST:TOS episode “The Cloud Minders”.

In our reality, business writer Tom Peters recalls an incident at a Mars candy factory whose HVAC system went schizoid at a plant-specifically, their AC failed, and the plant managers didn’t lift a finger to correct it. Once Forest Mars (at the time Mars CEO and 2nd generation exec) found out about it, he ordered the plant staff to relocate the plant manager’s desk smack dab in the middle of the plant’s worst part for overheating. A day later, the plant manager started the process to fix the plant’s environment.

Someone in 28,000 BCE sketched these pictures of lions on the wall of a cave in what is now France. Such beauty and grace in a few lines of charcoal!

On another subject, I forgot to add that I believe the people at the church who tell me I don’t have the fruit of the Spirit are seeing me in a gendered fashion. As in, I don’t act in a way they expect women to act, therefore, I must not have the fruit of the Spirit. So instead of “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”, it’s feminine demureness, deference to patriarchs and deliberate ignorance, among other “fruit.”

It takes a lot of self-control not to tell these people in blunt language how I feel they’re treating their children.

Istanbul mayoral re-run: Erdogan’s ruling AKP set to lose

Turkey’s ruling party is set to lose control of Istanbul after a re-run of the city’s mayoral election, latest results show.

The candidate for the main opposition party, Ekrem Imamoglu, has won 54% of the vote with nearly all ballots counted.

He won a surprise victory in March which was annulled after the ruling AK party complained of irregularities.

His opponent, former Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, has conceded.

So how do they “fix” this “irregularity” now? Get him convicted of some trumped-up charges of drug dealing or pedophilia?

I cannot believe the AKP are going to let it go this easily.
