Remember when the USA didn’t lick Putin’s balls?

What a difference a vote makes:

Instagram

Given what just transpired between Comrade minus and Vladimir Putin, I thought it would be a stark reminder to post this photograph again.⁣

Asked by a reporter whether he would tell Russia not to meddle in our election, minus turned to Putin and, with a joking grin said, “Don’t meddle in our election.” Putin grinned as well.⁣

Minus and Putin also bonded about the press.⁣

“Get rid of them,” minus told Putin. “Fake news is a great term, isn’t it? You don’t have this problem in Russia, but we do.” ⁣
⁣ “We also have,” Putin answered, in English. “It’s the same.”

Nah, send them to FEMA camp with a concrete floor to sleep on and a foil blanket. No soap or toothpaste either, not that they would have much use for them.

Give them FoxNews and a picture of Hillary to fling their poo at and they’ll be fine….

And the really fucked up thing is the cartoonist is CANADIAN. Doesn’t even work in this country.

Update: Apparently the papers he worked for are owned by the Canadian version of the Koch Bros, so that explains it.

They’re just following the lead of Trump who has come to Biden’s defense while attacking Harris and JFC, Jimmy Carter. Meanwhile on FB I’m seeing a number of “vote blue, no matter who” people saying they will as long as it’s not Harris.

The Pie Overlord!  Jun 29, 2019 • 8:44:32pm

Well shit.

Still no word from Twitter on why @ViciousBabushka had suspended. Aren’t they supposed to send you a warning or at least an explanation?

Meanwhile my backup account is @Pie_Overlord so if you haven’t already please follow. VB had over 16K followers, PO has 687.

I guess the main reason I am pissed is because of losing all my followers (including Mark Ruffalo & Rosie O’Donnell!) other than that I have configured Pie_Overlord on Tweetdeck with all the same parameters.

Losing my followers. That would probably be the thing that bums me out the most if/when Twitter suspends @teleskiguy for whatever the fuck. Some of my favorite pro skiers, Kelly Carlin, Moon Zappa, almost everyone in the Umphrey’s McGee organization that has a Twitter account (players, sound guy, the band’s official account)…

My guess is that I sent out too many weekly Friday #FF #FBRParty Tweets of new followers (which I have done ever since I joined Twitter in 2010!) and for some reason they flagged that as “Spam” every though everyone ASKS to be put on these lists!

Other than that I have no idea what I did that would violate their TOS.

I remember reading something similar a couple of years back - that Deutsche Bank reckoned Trump was worth something in the neighborhood of $800 million.

Which is certainly nothing to sneeze at and it’s a damn sight more than I have sitting in my bank account at the moment, but he’s not the “multi-billionaire” he so loudly claims to be.

We just got back from Scottsbluff. I had a good conversation with the pharmacist about the shingles vaccine.

She said she was surprised we came sixty miles one way to get it. Both my wife and I pointed out seeing shingles in people we knew, and we damn sure didn’t want to get it. Sixty miles is nothing compared to that.

She noted my t-shirt (“Teach the controversy, with the five traditional elements of Greek thought arranged as a periodic table) and laughed at that.

I then said I’m really not a fan of anti-vaxxers. She demurred, probably because she didn’t want to offend anyone. After I called them “pro-plaguers,” the dam broke. While she sat with us to observe after the shots (to ensure there wasn’t some terrible effect like sudden fainting or an allergic reaction), the conversation turned to making fun of anti-vaxxers.

re: #13 Dave In Austin

Also, from that article, I thought this was highly interesting:

Mr. Trump told Deutsche Bank his net worth was about $3 billion, but when bank employees reviewed his finances, they concluded he was worth about $788 million, according to documents produced during a lawsuit Mr. Trump brought against the former New York Times journalist Timothy O’Brien. And a senior investment-banking executive said in an interview that he and others cautioned that Mr. Trump should be avoided because he had worked with people in the construction industry connected to organized crime.

That would’ve been around 2004 or so.

And this is all part and parcel of NY state investigation into Trump……and there’s not a damn thing Trump can do about it.

Yep….

Thirty five MPH pre -frontal gust just hit us.

This is a vanishingly rare event, this time of year. A low pressure system from up around Shreveport is moving southwest (!!) and pushing that squall line southwards toward us. The low will trend over Travis county tomorrow and then hook towards the northeast tomorrow, passing south of Dallas and then trend on its normal course to the northeast. I cannot remember when this has happened previously, this time of year, and I have lived here for over 30 years.

Sorry, nobody will ever convince me that antifa are good guys.

He is an author at Quillette. He also has a YouTube channel where he defends people like the Proud Boys, frequently appears on FOX News to talk about “hate hoaxes,” has called for the death of Antifa activists (you know, those who oppose fascism), insists Christians will inherit the Earth and all non-Christian religious people and atheists will be killed, covered the so-called “Patriot Prayer” fascist group in Portland (as a participant), &c.

When you’re an atheist, you have to keep track of the Christians who want to kill you.

In Which Junior Briefly Attempts to Accuse Kamala Harris of Not Being a Black Person (goes to Wonkette).

Well, this stupidness is now being promoted by Trump’s family.

Here we go again! Kamala Harris must have scared the pants off of America’s stupidest people during the debate this week, because she’s managed to stir up quite the troll campaign of neo-birtherites who are now accusing her both of not being an actual black person (which she is) and of having been born in Canada (she was born in Oakland, CA)

It all started when alt-right conspiracy theorist and convicted felon (for credit card fraud and theft) Ali Alexander — formerly known as Ali Akbar/Ali Abdul Razaq Akbar — put out a tweet claiming that because Harris is half-Indian and half-Jamaican, that she is not a “real” black person.

$778 million

presumably this is net worth, adding in the value of his real estate, and not just dollars currently in a bank account

at that rate, anybody who owns a house in california and has paid off their mortgage, and has a 401k, is a millionaire

personally i think his real estate is losing money and he’s cash poor and living on loans

it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a “multi millionaire” was in a situation like that

He is the self-proclaimed “King of Debt”, aka, one economic downturn from being bankrupt (again). That is why he is raking in as much cash as he can by being the Prez. He is making a mockery of the emoluments clause:

The Constitution also contains a “domestic emoluments clause” (Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 7), which prohibits the president from receiving any “Emolument” from the federal government or the states beyond “a Compensation” for his “Services” as chief executive.

He is absolutely doing this, and it is an impeachable offense.

Yep, that was when the party flip happened. And the GOP stubbornly refuses to admit they’ve morphed into a white nationalist/white supremacist political party, or at the very least, a good-sized segment of their base certainly embraces such ideas.

Drumpf: Kim Jong Un! How they hanging?

Kim: (to translator) What did he say?

Translator: I’m not sure. Have we executed any political prisoners lately? I think he asked if we have hanged anyone recently.

Kim: (to translator) Well, yes, of course we have. Some cousins and anti-revolutionists have been dealt with. How should I respond?

Translator: I suggest that we avoid the question!

Kim: Proceed.

Translator, to Drumpf: The citizens of the People’s Republic are very happy Mr. President! And the Supreme Leader is happy to greet you this fine day!.

Drumpf: I was hoping for better weather.

Kim: What?

Translator: He’s complaining about the weather.

Kim: Oh, for fuck’s sake. It’s either brutally hot in the summer and Siberian cold in the winter with monsoons in between. Tell him we apologize and that we are not expanding our nuclear program.

Translator: The weather is not in our control, Mr. President, but it has nothing to do with global warming. (smiles, Drumpf nods approvingly) But we want to reassure you that we are not expanding our nuclear program and not expanding our missile delivery systems in any way.

Drumpf casts his eyes on Kim, looking into his soul.

Drumpf: I know that you are speaking the truth. Thank you for being such a good friend to the United States of America!

Kim, to translator: What did he say?

Translator: He bought it. He’s very happy.

Kim: He’s a complete idiot, isn’t he?

Translator: Yes, but he’s OUR idiot. I suggest that you stand, smile your best smile, and heartily shake his hand.

Kim stands, smiles his best smile, and heartily shakes Drumfp’s hand.

Drumpf, leaving the meeting, to an aide: That was a great meeting! We got everything we wanted! But his haircut is still a disaster.

The point is to equate anyone who opposes Fascism with violent Antifa.

While white supremacists who go on violent rampages are “lone wolves”.

The Antifa groups here are not the violent Black Bloc anarchists who show up at most liberal protests.

Funny thing, I support anti-fascism. When Christians or fascists call for my death, I reserve the right to use whatever defense will sustain my life. That includes if I go to a protest.

I’m doomed.

I just took off the bandage the pharmacist put on my arm yesterday afternoon for my shingles vaccine.

It has advertising on it. (I don’t understand that since my bandage was covered by my shirt sleeve.)

Prominently displayed on the bandage: “Acme Vaccines.”

If those come from the same company Wile E. Coyote gets all his stuff… .

Antifa has a decades-long anarchist history with fluid overlap with the Black Bloc. The “nice” antifascist strain is relatively new. Anarchists are inherently poor at maintaining membership rolls and ID accreditation. That whole end of the spectrum has been infiltrated by amateur and professional shit-stirrers, including the police.

I am seriously beginning to wonder if we can really ever have anything nice, like ever. I preface this with my love of libraries, I have had a library card every place I have ever lived since age 8. I am 59. I never knew this before today and yeah, goofy as it is, I’m bummed about this.

Melvil Dewey, the guy who created the Dewey Decimal Classification for libraries, was a complete and total racist, sexist, bigoted asshole. I found this out at the library, lol. I went yesterday to see the county’s remodel and to find a few books about drawing faces and forms. There was a big buzz with the front desk staff about the ALA removing his name from an award because he was just an asshole to almost everyone. His wife was not exactly lovely either. They owned a resort that didn’t allow Jewish people, or any one not the right level of white. He also could not keep his hands off women who weren’t his wife and was kicked out of the ALA in the early 1900s because of that shit. There’s probably more there to dig up, but I can’t go down that rabbit hole at the moment.

I’m really starting to think that humans are just mostly awful. I’m having trouble believing otherwise at the moment. I mean come ON. Living in red state America isn’t helping. And I know it’s weird, they really do care about libraries and schools here (curriculum however is not the best because religion and politics don’t educate kids very well alone), but there’s a level of mean spirit here that can be palpable at times. Sorry to be weird, I’m wired like that.

Also, from that article, I thought this was highly interesting:

That would’ve been around 2004 or so.

And this is all part and parcel of NY state investigation into Trump……and there’s not a damn thing Trump can do about it.

Their answer will be a disagreement as to future value. For example, I’m 63 years old, and I expect to start my own pillow company in two years (Your Pillow) which will net me $10 million per year for ten years. Hence, my net worth today is $100 million. But of course I won’t pay taxes now on any of that “stored wealth”.

It is amazing how much of a blizzard you can invoke with a single word (yet they claim they don’t believe in magic, and are twisted up in knots when invoking a single word).

Arguing over a word or concept is way more important to these people than the thing itself

Not so sure. Are the rich and powerful always assholes? Usually. But there were always people who fight for what is right (Abigail Adams for women to pull one example, Mark Twain another). There have always been people who knew what was right and spoke truth to power. So I don’t buy the “person of their time” arguments. They knew it was wrong, they were told it was wrong, but they did it anyway.

re: #155 Old Liberal

Not so sure. Are the rich and powerful always assholes? Usually. But there were always people who fight for what is right (Abigail Adams for women to pull one example, Mark Twain another). There have always been people who knew what was right and spoke truth to power. So I don’t buy the “person of their time” arguments. They knew it was wrong, they were told it was wrong, but they did it anyway.

Dante was an asshole. Thomas More was an asshole. Bach was an asshole. Will Durant was an asshole. Love Mark Twain, but he was an asshole. My daughter was formally charged as an asshole for teaching that asshole Harper Lee. And now Joe Biden is an asshole. Everbody’s somebody’s asshole, especially if you work at it.

Andy Ngo is a Quillette editor. Given this association, I would wait for details from reputable sources on what actually happened. I wouldn’t believe anything that came from anyone associated with that publication.

I underatand he’s vehemently Islamophobic, too, and casts aspersions on “SJW’s” as well. He seems to be a fringe figure on the rise, a la Michael Knowles. Shapiro often retweets him. So he’s hardly sympathetic. Plus, one GoFundMe set up by Michelle Malkin is probably past it’s $50,000 goal by now.

That said, the Portland Police said the milkshakes he was attacked with was laced with quick drying cement.

Mmm.. ribs. We’ve taken to slow cooking ribs in a pan with beans and various bean fixings like onions, ketchup, bbq sauce, brown sugar, chopped peppers, etc. Works good with sliced potatoes tossed in for an all around tasty dinner.

She’s on the WaPo “poll” for the first time, tied with Kirsten Gillibrand. I am not a fan of KG, but to have them “tied” is appalling, and I said so in the comments. That is enough for me to stop following them.

Hecuba's daughter  Jun 30, 2019 • 8:03:36am

It took some thought to discover the reason for Trump’s visit to the DMZ.

What happened the past week?
— The horrific picture of the dead migrant father and daughter, who perished because of Trump’s policies.
—The Wednesday debate whose winners were a couple white women, an African-American man, and a Hispanic
— The Thursday debate with a black woman as the clear winner — a woman who dominated the stage

So who was the focus of attention? Certainly not Trump. And when it was Trump, it was not in a good way for him. So clearly he had to divert attention away from everyone else and make himself the center of attention again.

The swirl of stuff about Harris not being the “right” kind of black is a standard move from the GOP play book. The same claim was raised about Obama when he was a candidate. A simple, and rather silly, attempt to drive a wedge between a black candidate and the demographic that the GOP expects to support said candidate heavily by default.

I’m not a quick dry cement expert, but whenever I’ve used it you have to move fast. The only way you don’t have to move fast is if you over-dilute it and then it just makes a brittle crusty form. Because most of these fools aren’t decent or smart, and the only reason they are half as successful as they are is because of the laziness and active enabling of media disseminators.

Also, as people were actually drinking these shakes during the whole thing, either there were dedicated ‘fakes’ or they were ‘laced’….and sugar would prevent the cement from actually setting from what I heard, so…yeah. It’s thin bullshit that’s spreading fast because anything bad about lefties or Dems must instantly be treated as gospel truth forever, and once the narrative is set, nothing can break it.

I think Obama got it purely from European angst over George W. Bush. I think drumpf creates way more angst for Europe than Bush ever did so perhaps that won’t happen. In any event, like everything, I think Nobel prizes are being devalued by the actions of the committee, so doing this would just be one more nail in the coffin. All you need to know about the GOP, and I voted for GOP candidates is this one fact.
They hold Ronald Reagan as the best when Ike Eisenhower was the best.

I’d add Teddy Roosevelt in with Ike. Grant may have had corruption in his administration but he stood up to the Klan. Garfield was a brilliant man who never had a chance thanks to an assassin’s bullet. The rest of them were just mediocre.

I used to say the Worst President was Buchanan with Andrew Johnson next to the bottom of the list. Then Nixon came along and I moved him to the bottom of my list. Then Pruneface got in and I placed him below Nixon. Then Dumbya got in and he deservedly was placed last. But now Trump is the Ultimate Asshole at the bottom of my list.

For the record: Trump was not totally the first president to visit N Korea. On his visit, president-elect Eisenhower flew a light liaison aircraft across the 38th parallel, and visited 1BN 15th INF at the front. There is no report of a bone spur flareup.

Hey folks! I know I haven’t posted much in a while, and you all might be asking, “Blind Frogbelly WHO?”

Spent some time back in PA for Dad’s memorial, which went really well. Your Dad is always your Dad. Mostly we all feel like our Dad was special. But when a lot of other people feel that way, too, maybe he really WAS special?

Part of that time, and the week or two since, I spent obsessively looking at houses around that part of PA on Zillow. I gotta retire sometime (I’m thinking 2028, when I’m 70), and I sure can’t afford to live HERE! Bay Area real estate prices really mess with your mind. I’m looking at houses that I can buy for a smallish percentage of the profit from selling my tiny ranch house on a tiny lot, and they’re BIG HOUSES. But, how will 70 year and older Me live in a big house with a big yard?

Meanwhile, here’s a picture of Rango and a stripey pal who has come to visit until the rummage sale at the church my atheist wife goes to…..

I am thinking of shifting back to the western part of PA since I am now essentially retired. Like the area outside of the weather, have friends and some relatives in the region, and it’s roughly the same time to drive north to visit my brother.

Shifting near a seacoast was interesting me, but I foresee the issues being expense and an expectation that if not directly on a coast the experience would be very buggy.

And the main things slowing the move are not wanting to move myself and three cats again so soon after the last move. Plus the disruption of having to find a whole new set of doctors for my various pre-existing conditions.

This is one of the things that got me started looking at houses back there a few years ago. We were in Pittsburgh for a family reunion (the Smiths are South Side denizens going back to at least 1822), and it seemed like a really nice town - vibrant, no longer dependent on smokestack industries but not dying from their absence - and I started looking at houses, because I’d spent some time on Ancestry with old City Directories and had identified the street addresses where the Smiths lived going back to 1860. A couple of them had old listings on Zillow, which keeps the listings with pictures even after the property sells. I noticed two things: 1) the houses were pretty cheap and 2) the Dignals (one of them married my Great Grandfather in 1887) managed to fit 9 people into a house that was one narrow door and one narrow window wide. Must have been a real rabbit warren!

BUT, Pgh gets REAL FUCKING COLD in the winter!

6% of voters in 2016 voted for someone other than the Republican or Democratic nominee. That’s the highest third party vote percentage since Perot got 8% in 1996. And Clinton underperformed Obama’s 2012 totals by about 100k votes nationally (even though 7 million more people voted in 2016 than in 2012). There are plenty of votes out there for the 2020 Democratic nominee to win that didn’t vote for Clinton in 2016. The question at this point, is what is the best way to win those votes?

I’d like to stay in Los Angeles but the rents are rising here because Garcetti lets gentrification run unchecked. Older apartment buildings are being torn down and replace by units that are excluded from rent stabilization.

I just got my annual rent increase notice and this time it’s increased by $50. When I moved into my apartment my rent in 1988 was $390. Now it’s going to go to $1,040 after the increase.

The new 8 story apartment building across the street is advertising rents that I can’t afford—Singles start at $1,595, One bedroom starting at $2,250 and 2 bedrooms starting at $2,995.

I may have to go to buying 2 shots of each Lotto jackpot to afford the rent…

Oh, I agree entirely. Trump is going to have the lowest ceiling of any incumbent president seeking re-election. Assuming turnout similar to, or higher than 2016, I don’t think he can do much better than about 46%. As I said in my last comment, the critical question will be whether the Democratic nominee can convince a sizable portion of the 6% who voted third party last time and new voters that they are a better option.

Well, not really that cold. (I grew up in northeastern NY state near Canada. Pittsburgh doesn’t get that cold for long during the winter.) However, it will give you a winter that is generally gray, damp, and temps that hover between freezing and the low 40s.

You’d probably need to look for a town/city with a decent college in it which might also supply a bit of a liberal bastion to make the area more tolerable.

When my mother moved back east for Oregon in the mid-90s she picked Meadville, PA to look for an apartment in. Was equidistant to people see wanted to visit, had a decent college in it (Allegheny) and was a bit of a cultural center for that area of northwest PA. And was close enough to Pittsburgh that she could drive down and use the airport there for travel. (Though she usually came down and stayed with me the night before traveling since I could give her a ride into downtown where she could get a shuttle to the airport.)
