Federal Appeals Court Rules That Trump Can Accept Bribes

Politics • Views: 17,703

Donald Trump has won a major court case, and is now free to take as many bribes from foreign governments as he likes. The District of Columbia and Maryland will probably appeal to the Supreme Court — a Supreme Court stacked with right wing operatives.

There is another way to hold this criminal administration accountable, but Democratic leaders don’t seem interested in doing that.

Here we are, exactly where we were promised we wouldn’t end up when the Dems won the House: Watching as Trump continues to act with total impunity, while the leadership sits around with the thumbs up their collective asses, scared into inaction by their own damned shadows.

Because impeaching him without a chance of convicting him is handing him another victory.

I guess I’d have to read the opinion, but who would have standing to enforce the Emoluments Clause, if not Maryland or DC (or some other gov’t entity)? Can I bring the suit? Someone has to be able to enforce the provision or it’s completely superfluous.

lawhawk  Jul 10, 2019 • 10:57:34am

Charles,

There’s still the Congressional emoluments suit still pending/active, but experts had considered the states case to be the stronger one.

The way this is going, the courts are going to claim that no one but Congress can hold Trump accountable, and if the Senate is controlled by the same party as the WH, then the president is above the law.

Winning the house hasn’t meant a fucking thing. Unbelievable

It really is up to Congress now to start the investigation into emoluments.

It’s a false choice to say that we must either impeach or continue to take no action. Commencing impeachment hearings and dragging his ass through the mud for months is something worth doing and the fact that the leadership continues to resist it is a damning indictment of their cowardice.

No it’s not. It’s making all the evidence public and letting the chips fall were they may. Until the evidence is introduced to the public trump wins.

Putting the GOP on the record as defending clear criminal conduct has value…. and has to be weighed against Trump claiming exoneration.

Of course McConnell has already said that he’d never allow a removal to come for a vote - showing that he doesn’t care about the rule of law. McGrath should remind everyone of that as well.

1. Because Trump is involved in some fashion directly (he’s one of those associates named in the indictment, or was involved in the earlier FL prosecution deal).
2. Because Trump doesn’t want to be seen as caving/losing by firing Acosta.
3. Because Trump doesn’t want to admit he was wrong (by firing Acosta) being competent.
4. Because it shows that Trump doesn’t know how to vet anyone for any position in government.
5. Because Trump doesn’t care about vetting; it’s about Trump showing that he’s never wrong and never knuckles to any pressure, no matter how awful the situation.

Pelosi could get a news conference together in less than an hour and say they’re going to start impeachment proceedings against the motherfucker.

Can someone give me ANY good reason to NOT do this?

16
marcusgorillius  Jul 10, 2019 • 11:10:21am

Impeach him, drag every republican you can through the process for the whole world to see. Make them defend him on the record. At least you could say you tried. Good God, whats it going to take!?

That’s just bulkshit from right wingers trying to deflect from GOP and Trump connections.

because none of this occurred while he was in the trump administration, and there’s some kind of common law belief that you don’t get impeached for stuff you did while you weren’t in office.

Not sure which is funnier: Ben whining that the WH publicly disinvited him, or insisting he can’t be antisemitic because “I have Jewish friends!”

The Republican Presidential playbook hasn’t changed much over the years, has it?

- Tax breaks for rich people and corporations
- Destroy environmental protections
- Fossil fuels are king
- Give the military ridiculous amounts of money
- Screw people on health care
- Send troops to the Middle East at some point
- Balloon the national debt

1) She’s not perfect
2) She is not giving a good enough reason to not move forward. She may have a plan, but how would we know?
3) Eventually she’s going to lose support from people who can’t take this much longer.
4) Investigating child rapists and human rights violations that are taking place in our country is part her fucking job.

I supported her for speaker, but my support is wearing thin, very thin.

re: #39 Charles Johnson

the acostas couldn’t look more like a strict christian family with dark secrets if they tried

And now the song “Dear Abby” from the Dead Kennedys popped into my head.

Dear Abby
Got a problem…

I’m a decent, underpaid, hard-working county coroner
It’s important that my family eats meat at least three times a week
But we just can’t afford to with prices the way they are
So I bring home some choice cuts from my autopsy subjects

Just mix in the Tuna Helper and ta-da!

Dear Abby
Got a problem…

The whole family things my new meals are delicious
They ask me, “What’s your secret?” Abby, I think they’re getting suspicious
My smart-ass eight year old keeps asking, “Where’s all the meat?”
“The red dye #2 kind that’s kept in the fridge?”

If they find out the truth, I don’t think they’ll understand
Abby, what do I tell my family?

Dear Reaganomics victim
Consult your clergyman
Make sure the body’s blessed
And everything should be just fine

Just Fine…
