What is there to say about the legend that is Steve Vai??? Well, mainly that he is one of the most special human beings in the planet. We have become friends over the last couple of years, and his humility and life-awareness, in face of his greatness, never ceases to blow my mind. I wrote Do You Feel Love especially for him. I sent him a bunch of impossible midi-guitar, which, impossibly, effortlessly, he transcribed and played note-for-note. He then completely let loose over the end of ‘Outro’… it brings me goosebumps every time. It was the last song I wrote for the album—it was imagined and recorded in a total of three days. The Northumbrian pipes legend from ‘Intro’, Kathryn Tickell, returned to play that epic melody in harmony with Steve on this one.

Fun fact: The groove in the verse was made from chopped up sounds of garden tools!

I don’t think that’s going to work.

It looks like he’s trying to hunker down and wait out the protests, hoping people will forget.

That’s my expectations too. It’s been 11 days since protests started. School starts in early August (school summer here runs from June to July). If he can hold out until then, the protests will die out.

Plus his word on “he won’t run again” probably doesn’t mean much after the chatlog dump implicating him in holding up relief supplies.

This is true. While the PNP is lukewarm, several key mayors have stood by on their calls for his resignation. Without these mayors’ help, no governor candidate will win.

Among other books I read to my kids, I read the Hobbit + LOTR to my oldest, His Dark Materials to the middle one, and all of the Hitchhikers books to my youngest.

My third was the hardest because he was the last. Mine are five years apart, and I stopped with them between 8 and 10 because they were more interested at that point in reading on their own. The gap was good because I could do an easy quick book for the younger while I was still reading to the older. When I no longer had anyone to read it, it was tough.

I’d say that it sort of became pointless to worry about such things the moment he went back on his “condemnation.” Whether he planned it or it was spontaneous, the reality is that he’s totally for it and the GOP are left making fools of themselves trying to defend it.

A Waco couple said their daughter was denied admission to a local day care because they are in a lesbian relationship.

Brittney Ready and her wife, Stacey, have been married for two years and have four kids.

Their youngest daughter, Callie, was on the waiting list at Parkview Christian Academy until they got a call Thursday saying the day care finally had an opening.

Brittney wrote on Facebook that the director was sweet and welcoming to the couple and their daughter. It wasn’t until they were ready to leave that they ran into problems.

“We go to leave with paperwork in hand only for the administrator to call us into his office to let us know that he heard that Stacey and I our ‘mates’ and because of that they cannot welcome Callie” Brittney said.

Ready said the director told the couple the day care could not welcome Callie because their christian-based faith would not be able to accept their daughter.

The director needs to stop thumping his Bible long enough to open it and read this:

Yup. Juanita Jean ran a registration/get out the vote campaign in Fort Bend County (where she lives) and flipped every county seat to the Democrats. She says the GOP still hasn’t figured out how she and her workers did it.

If Texas was to go blue in 2020, not only would that take away the GOP’s largest Electoral College state, that would give a Democratic House a chance to un-fuque the gerrymandering which does things like split Austin into six different GOP districts.

So I ended up quitting the BlazeItForward Facebook group this morning. A couple of members decided to give me shit on the page and in messenger over my idea to pay the lunch debts for students who don’t qualify for free lunches and are still struggling to pay the bill. Why? Come on, guess, you know what I am going to say because we hear it all the fucking time:

It’s the parents’ responsibility to feed the kids, not ours!!! Donate to food banks instead so their parents can go there and get food. One of these people claimed to be a social worker for neglected kids.

Judgment does not feed hungry kids. Food is a right and not a privilege. And kids, even if we say some parents are awful, shouldn’t ever be forced to pay for their parents’ mistakes. Blaze’s family doesn’t actually run the Facebook group, it looks like it’s a friend or friends of theirs doing it. And while it might have been nice to have group support, I don’t need it to try to do something. As fucked up and dumb as this very red county is, it would not surprise me at all if there were rules against helping. My hope is that there is already something in place, like all lunches being paid for regardless, I should be able to find out soon enough.

And if I can’t do this, I’ll figure out another way to help. But can I just say how much humans irritate the hell out of me? Who shits all over an idea to help feed kids? On a site to honor a young man who was killed just because he was a light in a dark world? I’m all out of patience for these fucking people.

That said, you could set up a not-for-profit (with all the attendant headaches that involves) to collect money for school lunches for everyone.

Alternatively, you could go to the school board armed with facts about how much more wasteful it is to harass children and parents to collect debts from people who don’t have the money, and just have the board pass a resolution abolishing collecting money for school lunches. Any increase in taxes would actually be minuscule. The whole freakin’ city of New York did it, and their school district has to have orders of magnitude more students.

I’m calling the school district this morning to see what they do about this. I also am trying to get in touch with one of my son’s teachers to ask her for an insider’s POV. We live in one of the richest counties in the state, but there are pockets of poverty even in the wealthy areas, the southern part of the county is where the poverty becomes more obvious, but I am certain that there are families here that could use the help. You have to start somewhere, making sure kids can focus on school instead of hunger seems like it should be easy.

I’m calling the school district this morning to see what they do about this. I also am trying to get in touch with one of my son’s teachers to ask her for an insider’s POV. We live in one of the richest counties in the state, but there are pockets of poverty even in the wealthy areas, the southern part of the county is where the poverty becomes more obvious, but I am certain that there are families here that could use the help. You have to start somewhere, making sure kids can focus on school instead of hunger seems like it should be easy.

It’s also not lost on me that it costs more than a couple of dollars and you have to have a corporate structure to start a non profit organization. Gah.

Sorry to be late to the party, but my school district has a program where kids with extra money left in their account at the end of the school year can donate it to settle the balances of the kids who need it. They are able to cover those balances every year as a result….what parent needs the drama of chasing down a $5 check to get a refund?

If your district would consider it, it’s a very cool program.

I think that at its core explains why I’ve never embraced economic right wing thinking. Calvinism never influenced my grandparents or parents and thus me. I have one Great Grandparent who was raised Lutheran but the rest were Catholics of the Roman and Byzantine variety. Obviously those denominations have their own root problems but never this “Tough shit if you starve because you can’t afford something.” No child or adult for that matter should go without a meal.

Equifax settles with states for $425 million over data breach. NY gets $19.2 million.

That’s still a fraction of the damage they did to everyone’s data privacy and credit info.

Equifax currently trades at $138 a share. They give a 38 cent per share dividend, and have EPS of $1.20.

This company still has oversized say as to the credit that individuals and businesses can obtain, despite having massive data breach and not doing right by anyone who was harmed (and that’s pretty much everyone in the nation).

Yea, for going for written media to movie it seems that novella length is about the most you can do a decent movie from. For novels you have to chop stuff out* and short stories often need padding. A series allows you a lot more leeway to work with the material.

And even that is speculative, as it doesn’t seem like the Dem caucus has actually settled on much of a narrative. They truly do seem to be engaging in the very thing that we’ve tried to deny for a good while: A fishing expedition in search of anything that would look “bad” next November.

Our entire transportation system (starting with the Erie Canal, up through the transcontinental railroad and the interstate highways), land ownership (The Homestead Act), our great scientific achievements (The Apollo program, USDA and NIH grants for basic medical research, CDC, etc), to even our current Brave Protectors (the fire department, the police department, the military) and the courts — those are all socialist enterprises. Marvel rocked the annual gathering of people who read cartoon books and dress up in capes on Saturday, revealing that Mahershala Ali will star in the reboot of the greatest black superhero movie since Meteor Man when the Oscar-winning actor assumes the role of the iconic vampire daywalker in Blade.

The announcement from Marvel Studios came during its panel at the San Diego Comic-Con International, Variety reports. After Marvel studio chief Kevin Feige introduced the stars and revealed the titles of the company’s upcoming slate of movies, the Disney-owned studio surprised the audience by bringing out Mahershala Ali to thunderous applause that may or may not have included a few nerd orgasms. The award-winning thespian embraced the other actors onstage, including Tom Hiddleston, who plays the role of Loki in the Thor series and serves as the Asgard ambassador to Wakanda.

Never mind that using nukes against terrorists like al Qaeda or the Taliban would not defeat them. It’s just more evidence he’s unfit for office (and never was fit for office).

Not only would it not defeat them; it would radicalize and activate a billion Muslims, and most of the population of the Western nations and third-world nations as well. Russia would be our only ally, and maybe not even them.

We have the biggest and strongest military in the world, but it’s not bigger than stronger than everybody else all added together. This would end with NYC looking like Dresden.
