Of course, the irony is that that’s set (albeit in a fictional town) on the Ontario Peninsula, which is literally the southernmost part of Canada though prone to lake-effect. Though admittedly if I had to take a runner, I’d much rather do so to BC or Southern Alberta as far as the weather goes, and probably only BC, because while the weather in Calgary is about the same as here, it’s also Canada’s Colorado Springs. And Edmonton is dark for too long every day and too cold in the depths of that darkness like what they’re making Letterkenny out to be.

Boris Johnson’s right-hand man in Downing Street expressed the damning views at a conference in 2017, claiming the public were “correct” to believe Tory politicians didn’t care about the people who relied most upon the health service.

Mr Cummings’ appointment has sent shockwaves through Westminster - as the former Vote Leave chief has been outspoken in his criticism of MPs and civil servants.

Johnson just met with DUP leaders, which is why they’re going all Trumpian on the truth.

I do too. Sad to say, I think it would have hurt Reagan far more then now among Republican voters. The GOP Moderates who were much stronger then as opposed to non existent today didn’t think much of Reagan at the time and this would have amplified that. Now? Reagan’s machine does a whole sorry you were offended, doesn’t reflect what’s in my heart blah blah, and it was a different time. It really though is time to look at Reagan though without 1980’s coke eyes. He was racist in both his words and actions.

The reason CNN went after Sen. Warren tonight on not using nuclear weapons unless someone else used them first was a bill she introduced in the Senate two weeks ago, which only has twelve words.

As for the issue of CNN’s moderators using Republican talking points, those are the exact points Democrats would have to counter or refute in the general election campaign. I’m not so opposed to the idea of using Republican talking points as questions to Democrats, as long as the Dems are clear those are in fact GOP points and effectively counter them or show them as lies.

my grandad finally had to have my dad give him the talk about how firing at ground hogs from the back porch was a little reckless, because there could be richochets, and people sometimes were walking on a blind corner back of the farm. It would have validated the moderate Republicans and Rockefeller ones who were right about him but either became Democrats eventually or accepted Reagan because he was a boon to Republicans everywhere. That probably doesn’t happen in this scenario. Is it enough for Carter to beat him with all that went down though? I don’t know but there is no Reagan landslide if this comes out.

Yep. Too bad it didn’t. Reagan really more than Nixon even began the road to today. This really I hope does spark discussion on his Civil Rights legacy or there lack of. At best, you could have accused Reagan of indifference to minorities but this reveals hostility.

In the filing, the Federal Bureau of Investigation says Capital One was notified in an email tip on July 17 that some of the acquired data was being stored on Github, an online platform with more than 36 million users. Also in that Github account, timestamped April 21, 2019, was Thompson’s resume, FBI special agent Joel Martini says in the filing.

Nixon supported sanctions against Rhodesia, but Republicans in Congress overrode his objections in 1971 to allow certain critical (read profitable) mining products to be imported into the USA. Congress did support the UN resolution for the UK to put a naval blockade on Mozambique to prevent petroleum products being shipped out of Rhodesia.

The GOP in Oklahoma passed a series of driving regulations requiring any person with certain medical conditions to get a sign off from a specialist (not a GP) and giving them one week to do that.

I got a form from the state saying I needed to see nine specialists in a week, and the VA said they did not cover that because it was not medically necessary.

We got the hell out of Oklahoma. My wife was looking for houses we could afford (at the bottom of the housing crash she could only sell our house at auction for $7,000), and this one popped up on her radar (long story behind how that happened).

So we bought this house with cash (which left us our house in Oklahoma as a temporary storage unit so we didn’t have to pay for something like that).

Now, Oklahoma has one of the highest uninsured and unlicensed driver rates in the nation, because most people could not afford to get those specialists to sign off on their medical conditions or schedule such appointments within a week.

It turned out the house was entangled in state District Court over non-payment of $50,000 worth of back child support payments the still-married wife of the owner wasn’t paid. He also was entangled in a bigamy case in Colorado.

The real estate agent refused to refund our earnest money. My wife called the Nebraska Real Estate Commissioner, and that guy pulled up a rap sheet on the homeowner a mile long. He leaned on the real estate agent, who then refunded our money.

Afterwards, continuing the search, she found this house. The money to purchase the Valentine house was still in our checking account, so she contacted the agent in Scottsbluff and said we’d like to come visit.

After we saw it we said we’d buy it, and signed the paperwork in the general store here. One of the sale conditions was you had to prove that you had a mortgage lined up to finalise the purchase, so I had our bank in Oklahoma fax him the balance on our checking account. That cleared the sale.

Nebraska wasn’t particularly the place we wanted move, it’s just the houses here were within our price range, and Nebraska driving law concerning epilepsy is more generous than most states. (My license was revoked in Florida, and when I became homeless I could not get one in South Carolina before its driving laws were struck down by the Supreme Court. When I was homeless in Omaha I was able to get a license, and moving here made it easier; I only had to “renew” my license despite being licensed in Oklahoma.)

Anyone 5% or below should drop out.

Yeah, that means folks I like, including Booker, drop out and focus on the critically important task of retaking the Senate. Booker and Klobuchar can do that from within the Senate and support those seeking to book GOPers from their seats, including #MoscowMitch. Anyone under 5% shows that they can’t break through and that they aren’t generating any traction. There’s a reason for that - there are far better candidates who have the ability to take the fight to Trump.

The format of these debates gives the cranks and fringe candidates an oversized say (Delaney, who gets 0% support in polling, got how much airtime?) That’s time that the frontrunners could have used to go after Trump and GOP policies.

Another thing is that the moderators are more than happy to work with GOP talking points about Democrats, but they never seem to hold the GOP accountable when their own proposals blow out the debt. Democrats have to be fiscally responsible and pay for every dime, but Trump/GOP can propose massive tax scam, push to build a wall, but can’t identify a single source to pay for any of it - Mexico is not an answer. It’s a deflection from fact Americans pay for it. Tariffs are paid for by Americans importing those goods. We pay Trump’s trade war tax.

That’s why Bush I got the VP slot, to bring those conservatives into the fold.

Reagan won because disaffected Democrats crossed over to join the guy who thought segregation was a good thing; because he made a transactional agreement with the evangelicals, and the celebrity patina didn’t hurt either.

The party then remade itself in Reagan’s image because those who are most comfortable with hierarchy wanted to reflect their leader; much like what Trump has done now.

Earlier in the debate, Jake Tapper did frame his question based on Republican talking points. He asked if Medicare For All would increase the taxes of Americans. Both Sanders and Warren always answer those questions correctly. It is not about one’s individual government taxes increasing. It is about out of pocket expenses for health insurance and medical care.

The corporate media wants to have the soundbite and video clip with candidates saying Medicare for All will increase their taxes. Candidates should not. Leave it to the activists who can discuss the policy in paragraphs instead of in snippets to ensure the entire concept is well understood.

$3.00 for a gallon of gas
1.89 for a dozen eggs

we get lost when it’s indirect - like insurance, and when there isnt a definite, direct payout (car insurance or fire insurance)
and worse when there’s an intermediary - say a government or the insurance company between you and the provider

SS, medicare, health insurance (heck, most insurnace except whole life) are all simply means of amassing from each of us a lesser amount of funds to pay estimated, expected, but unknown, likely larger specific claims

if you take the details away its basically money goes into a pot, hopefully gets efficiently managed and gets spent out the other side

the details are how efficient the administration, what’s covered, how to deal with those who have no money to pay in, etc

whether you pay an insurance company who pays the claim or the government who pays the claim, either way you are gonna pay first and likely close to the same amount

The party then remade itself in Reagan’s image because those who are most comfortable with hierarchy wanted to reflect their leader; much like what Trump has done now.

I like Ford. I think the Nixon pardon was a mistake but it was just that. Agree about the Reagan-Trump analogies.

Yeah, that means folks I like, including Booker, drop out and focus on the critically important task of retaking the Senate. Booker and Klobuchar can do that from within the Senate and support those seeking to book GOPers from their seats, including #MoscowMitch. Anyone under 5% shows that they can’t break through and that they aren’t generating any traction. There’s a reason for that - there are far better candidates who have the ability to take the fight to Trump.

The format of these debates gives the cranks and fringe candidates an oversized say (Delaney, who gets 0% support in polling, got how much airtime?) That’s time that the frontrunners could have used to go after Trump and GOP policies.

Another thing is that the moderators are more than happy to work with GOP talking points about Democrats, but they never seem to hold the GOP accountable when their own proposals blow out the debt. Democrats have to be fiscally responsible and pay for every dime, but Trump/GOP can propose massive tax scam, push to build a wall, but can’t identify a single source to pay for any of it - Mexico is not an answer. It’s a deflection from fact Americans pay for it. Tariffs are paid for by Americans importing those goods. We pay Trump’s trade war tax.

It’s a full year to the convention. Six months to a primary. The problem isn’t how many people IMO the problem is the dumbass media taking a two person format and cramming 20. The equivalent of putting 100 players on each side in a soccer game.

Trump can’t lecture anyone on his faith. He doesn’t have any. He knows nothing about Christianity other than a wide swath of Christians can be conned easily. Many more partner with him to con other Evangelicals. It’s a dumpster fire.

I once told my Evangelical cousin that Episcopalians read more scripture in our services than any other Christian denomination. She didn’t believe me. He also had a plan for universal health care, even leftier than what we ended up getting with ACA. Ted Kennedy said many times that his greatest mistake as a senator was turning down that health care plan because he thought he’d be able to get something even better if he pushed. (I specify “as a senator”, because Mary Jo Kopechne was arguably not an “as a senator” kind of fuckup.)

I would argue that any good legislation that came during Nixon’s tenure was a successful attempt to water down what was needed. Eg they knew there was an environmental wave they couldn’t block so they tried to get the most watered down version.
