8chan Briefly Gets Back Online Before Being Even More Thoroughly Shut Down

Internet • Views: 43,469

As we reported last night, the web service company Cloudflare finally decided to do the right thing and stop working with far right pro-Trump hellhole 8chan (an incubator for violent domestic terrorists like the one who committed mass murder in El Paso).

Today we have even better news.

After briefly coming back online by switching to a company called Bitmitigate, which also provides services to neo-Nazi site The Daily Stormer, things got worse for them. And not just for 8chan — for Bitmitigate as well. Because the company they were renting hardware from, Voxility, realized what was going on and told Bitmitigate to take a hike: A defiant 8chan vowed to fight on, saying its ‘heartbeat is strong.’ Then a tech firm knocked it offline.

Abandoned by its key partner Cloudflare for its “lawlessness” in the wake of the El Paso mass shooting, 8chan briefly disappeared from the Web early Monday before reappearing with the help of a sympathetic ally: BitMitigate, whose cybersecurity services also helped keep the neo-Nazi site Daily Stormer online after Cloudflare dropped it in 2017.

But by Monday afternoon, both 8chan and the Daily Stormer plunged into darkness when Voxility, a tech firm that has leased servers to BitMitigate, announced that it would no longer provide those services. The site for BitMitigate, which is based in Vancouver, Wash., also dropped offline.

It’s “totally against our policy,” Maria Sirbu, a Voxility executive, told The Washington Post. “As soon as we were notified … we proceeded with (completely) removing” the company from their network.

She said Voxility was making a “firm stand” and urged that many other Internet authorities should take more action in “keeping the Internet a safer place.”

And as I noted earlier, this is just from China deciding to up the ante. The odds that Donny will avoid being provoked into saying or doing something even dumber are next to nil. He’s going to do something because otherwise he’ll be seen as “losing,” and his ego will never allow that. So buckle up, folks, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

Sites like 8chan and Daily Stormer are like cockroaches, they may seem dead now but you can expect them to be running around again later. It could be days, weeks, or even months while they find a server willing to put up with their bullshit for little money down. It may not even be in the US, they could find a space on a server farm operating out of an old Soviet-era tank factory. But like a bad case of herpes, they’ll pop back up and return to infesting the body politic.

Vichyssoise, a chilled creamy potato and leek soup, was created by a chef at the Ritz-Carlton in New York in the summer of 1917, to help keep patrons cool. Chef Louis Diat was French, hence the French name of the soup.

Hey, if you’re gonna repost yours, I’mma repost mine!

When The Younger Boy was, well - younger, we got him a Red Eared Slider, because he loved turtles. It was just a small thing, no more than 2” across the carapace.

Then we learned you really need a serious aquarium filter/pump with those guys, so we got that.

Then he got bigger. And we got another one, because a friend had one her kids no longer cared about.

They got bigger. And bigger. Now they’re the size of soup plates. We have them in separate big-ass tanks, with big-ass filter/pump things.

Mrs. FBW thought, a couple years back, that we should just build a pond in the back yard for them. She and the boys started digging one, thinking all you need to do is dig a hole and fill it with water.

So, being a researcher, I started researching what you ACTUALLY need to do to make a pond for a couple soup plate-sized RES’s. You need a liner. You need some containment for the turtles themselves. You need deep areas for them to get away from racketycoons, and a beach for them to pull themselves up onto, to dry out and sunbathe. You need an EVEN BIGGER filter/pump. And you have to figure out how you’re going to hide the electrical cords you need to run the thing.

That put the kibosh on the pond. But we still have the hole - a 1’ deep, 10’ wide depression in the yard.

With bread, I’d go for dips and salads that are served cold.

Personally, I default to chickpea salad of Indian extraction, yoghurt and vegetable dips (borani), and hummus or some other mashed seasoned bean. Basically stuff that can be eaten just with a knob of bread as pusher of medium.

What I’m considering making today is Georgian vegetable pate (pkhali), which is chopped or minced vegetables in a walnut sauce, which is then served cold/room temp with cornbread (though it goes well with any bread). My last attempt did not go so well, and I want to try again having actually had the real thing in-country.

(Also I have vegetables to use up because I’m basically refrigerator Sisyphus, buying new produce to use up the old produce)

re: #60 Blind Frog Belly White

i am laughing so hard at your turtle pond post

we went through a lot of that in our research stages too

- we decided, and we think we can build what we want without any filtration or circulation
- south florida means lots of sun and algae, and likely it wont be clear all year round, if ever - but we dont want a koi / gazing pool - we’re after more like a wildlife pond or what the shallow parts of a lake might look like. hazy but not black.

- we start with lots of the right kinds of plants and wait 3 months or so.
- then we introduce the right fish a few at a time - if we do it right eventually the fish and the plants naturally balance each other out without us having to feed, clean or do any maintenance

if something goes wrong, we drain a foot of water, refill and rebalance…
if we cant maintain the balance (say 2-3 years down the road), we have a contingency plan to add filtration then.

- there will be a raised ‘pool’ at one end with about a 1’ spillway drop - mostly for the sound. we’ll do that with a bilge pump connected to a solar panel

- and yes, we’re looking at wrangling a 30’x50’ liner when the time comes.

at least we didnt have to dig the initial 30’x16’x6’ hole

The GOPers in Congress are heading for the hills… retirements are starting to pile up.

AND while they’re all quitting somewhat because they want to distance themselves from trump, none of them are calling him out as they’re doing it.

and they will not all be replaced with someone worse
they are seeing what’s coming:

marchant’s district is R+9 per presdiental results not house polling
- in 2014 he was reelected by 33 points
. In 2016 by 17 points
- last year by 3 points

too much work to campaign and win, especially when you’re tied to trump at the hip

easier to quit quietly

(JTA) — A letter sent by National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Emmer to party members identified three “left-wing radicals” that he says “bought control of Congress for the Democrats.”

Emmer represents Minnesota’s Sixth District in the U.S. House. The Minneapolis-based American Jewish World newspaper first saw the letter, which is said appears to have been circulated in March, in July and reported on it Friday.

The letter on Emmer’s letterhead says “the news of impactful, real progress on turning our nation around was undercut by biased media and hundreds of millions of dollars of anti-Republican propaganda put out by liberal special interests, funded by deep-pocketed far-left billionaires George Soros, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg.”

“These left-wing radicals essentially BOUGHT control of Congress for the Democrats,” the letter also said.

Hi.

I was reading through the last thread and Twitter feed of the wingnut woman who claims she needs an AR-style rifle to shoot varmints (specifically coyotes) to defend her grass farm from vegetarian coyotes or some such crap.

Wholly crap, she didn’t even spell varmint correctly.

We don’t have many coyotes here, but we do have a few. Ranchers and farmers mostly leave them alone. In the unlikely event a coyote was a problem, they use friggin’ super soaker water guns. That’s all you need to drive off a coyote.

For something larger, like a mountain lion, a bolt-action rifle or a shotgun is all you need. Even if you miss, the gunshot will drive off the mountain lion.

I know who the gun owners are in my town (everyone in town). No one has an AR-style weapon.

The way she had that gun in her truck and as filthy as it was (along with the ejector port open), it’d likely blow up in her hands if she ever tried to use it.

Can he make this a permanent situation? And I find it kinda funny he’s got to go to Tennessee to get health care because there’s no where in Kentucky that would do the procedure? Vandy is a fine hospital in Nashville. Are there no hospitals in Kentucky that can do it (or want to)?

All I can think that makes any sort of sense, is that Trump is getting rate cuts because he’s so far in debt that he can then re-fi the billions he owes Putin & the Russian oligarchs.

So rate cuts make sense to his lizard brain and fuck everyone else with a Ditch Witch.

So Trump would take action to fix things.”

IMO trying to distinguish between violent white nationalism and non-violent white nationalism is idiotic, especially in the US.

The violence is always there at least as an implied ‘or else’ if the white nationalists can’t get their way via normal political processes.

Trump’s been in office for four of the five worst drops in history (not percentage but total point). GWB has two, and between them, own 7 of the 7 worst point drops in DJIA.

Point drops are meaningless — it’s only percentage drops that matter.

Nimrod here doesn’t need an automatic rifle for this. In the very unlikely scenario proposed, I am fairly confident I could shoot 10 hogs a minute with my 45/70 Henry, for real, especially at point-blank range, and even pausing twice to reload. Once hit with that caliber, they go down and stay down, something that is iffy with a 5.56. I wouldn’t like it but it could be done.

The feral hog thread really is wildly funny. So are a lot of other responses to the gun cult and its stooges as they make fools of themselves trying to spin the recent events to their advantage. 1. The vast majority of extremist mass shootings are by right wing extremists. That’s not the same as most right wingers being extremists.

This is the lesson of “the deplorables” - you cannot point out that there are a lot of racists on the Right without everyone on the Right accusing you of calling EVERYONE on the Right racist.

HRC very carefully separated the racists, Islamophobes, and misogynists from the rest of Trump supporters when she labeled them ‘deplorables’. Trump supporters then ALIGNED THEMSELVES with the racists, Islamophobes, and misogynists by calling themselves ‘deplorables’, essentially erasing the distinction.

And, honestly, we should take them at their word.

How Trump’s biggest broken promise will make white supremacist terrorism even worse, by Paul Waldman, WaPo

As historian Rick Perlstein noted just after the 2016 election, Trump made practical promises he couldn’t possibly keep, but “the biggest, only made implicitly, was the same one fascist strongmen always offer: transcendent national renewal, built upon the cleansing of dangerous untermenschen from the body politic.” Once that promise inevitably fails to be fulfilled, the results could be catastrophic. “The more Trumpism fails, the more, and more violently, scapegoats will be blamed.”

We are not heading toward that point, because we’re already there. And what happens if Trump loses in 2020? Then the most radical and murderous on the far right will know that the political project truly failed, and they may decide there is no option but violence until the America they want is born out of the carnage.

So yes, we can and must condemn Trump for being such an inspiration to the most depraved among us. But we should also know that defeating him will not make them disappear. It could make them even more dangerous.

Well one of them needs to move. Probably the ones with pick-up trucks.

I was at an archery tournament on a ranch down in Santa Barbara county years ago. The targets were 3D foam animal targets that the organizers had viciously set in realistic hunting situations*. Right after the ‘Running Hog’ (hog target on a sloping track so it moved), one of the guys sniffs the air and says, “PIGS! can you smell em?” and a group of 3 busts out of the brush ahead of us, trots across the trail and disappears up the hill on the other side.

And all of us with field points.

*Like, down hill at a steep angle behind a big tree that still left the whole vital target area open so you could shoot it, IF you could take your mind off busting an arrow on the tree. Then there’s the Steel Pig, where only the 10 ring isn’t made of 1/4” thick steel - *PWANG!* “Son of a bitch!”

The prevalence of this argument shows just how ignorant many Americans are of conditions and events in other countries. In western Europe people take religion a lot less seriously on average yet there are far fewer murders relative to the population, especially mass murders. When they do happen, as in Paris, they are usually the work of highly organized international terrorist gangs, never of local folk who buy their guns openly and legally then go apeshit some day. This is because the local nuts cannot buy guns openly and legally, not because there are no nuts.

You knew this before your boy started this trade war, dudes. And you’re ignoring rules that could have helped you, so I wouldn’t expect much help from others.

And don’t expect other countries to automatically come to our aid as trade wars ramp up worldwide now. Trump has helped usher in the new “every country for itself” mentality that our middle class will soon discover they didn’t want after all.

re: #384 Decatur Deb

With Texans as heavily armed as they are, and hogs as tasty as they are, how do we explain feral hog overpopulation?

Most Texans do not have the skills to hunt the wily critters successfully. They are fast and smart. Among other things, they will instinctively use the lay of the land; tiny dips and humps in the ground, clumps of vegetation etc.; to shield themselves from potential threats. They will also seek a background that makes best use of their natural coloring as camouflage. They know to weave back and forth to avoid gunfire, probably because individuals who naturally did that survived longer and had more offspring until the behavior became instinctive. When cornered, they will charge and this can completely unnerve slob hunters. The hunter usually isn’t harmed but the hog will depart in haste, leaving him to seek clean trousers.

My cousins and my uncle are fairly unapologetic about their racism. You could always tell when my dad was hanging around my uncle, because his own “issues” would flare up.

And I’ve mentioned before, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had complete strangers start up “Just between us white guys” conversations with me out of the blue.
