As I’ve said many times, the hinterland gentry, the local rich and semi-rich, are the heart and soul of the Republican Party. This is the reason they hate Bill Clinton so much. He is one of them, adopted son of a car dealer from Hope Arkansas, yet he has turned his back on them and opposed their interests for his entire adult life. This makes him a traitor in their eyes, and a far different kind of enemy than, say, Joe Biden, a working class guy from the remote world of east coast unions, or Kamala Harris, a coastal elitist (in their eyes) who was seemingly born to thwart their plans.

There must be a revolution in this country. It must penetrate to every hamlet and suburb. This is where real oppression and injustice have their source. Washington and, indeed, the state capitals are only a reflection of what is out there, in the hinterland, where each county and ‘burb has its own structure of semi-feudal privilege.

There seems to be quite a number of poor people in my county who are all in on the GOP. That said, the party is masters at getting people to think of other things for their problems rather than rapacious capitalists.

It was hopeful here in the midterms though in this county. The county seat mayor was ousted and replaced by an independent (baby steps, a Democrat didn’t run). A second Republican ran in that race with deceptive signs which looked like the Democratic Party donkey and blue text; he was trounced.

In the second largest town, the Republican mayor was ousted by a Democrat with 93% of the vote, and the school board flipped to Democratic control.

In Dalton in Cheyenne County (where my school board is; my town is divided in a checkerboard pattern between Bridgeport Public School and Dalton Public School), the school board also flipped to Democratic control. One wingnut on the board was running on the idea of teaching evolution as one of competing theories (the other was not Lamarckism), and he was trampled (he didn’t even get ten votes).

To coin a phrase, that desperately needed revolution must start in our hearts and minds. Any shooting and shouting in the streets will be an afterthought.

The GOP gentry obviously don’t have the numbers to win elections on their own. This is the whole reason they appeal to racism, prejudice, and ignorance of every kind. Just as slave-holding planters needed the poor white farmers to maintain their power, today’s counterparts need the masses. They grift the rubes. When their grift succeeds, they win. When it fails, as seems to be the case in your area, they lose.

Yeah, Dipwad Douchcanoe, that isn’t your call:

Trump tells advisers Omar and Tlaib shouldn’t be allowed to enter Israel: report (The Hill)

President Trump has told advisers that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should prevent Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) from entering Israel, Axios reported Saturday, citing three people familiar.

The White House denied giving any such instruction to Israel and Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham told Axios, “The Israeli government can do what they want. It’s fake news.” The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

That makes me think of the beginning of Real Genius, where Professor Hathaway (played by William Atherton, one of the best on-screen smug assholes/jerks ever, a type that he played to perfection the year before in Ghostbusters and a few years later in both Die Hard and Die Hard 2) tells young prodigy Mitch that people like him were “different, better”.

He was talking about the uber-smart people of the movie (like him), but “conservatives” pretty much talk and carry themselves the exact same way.

The thing people don’t realize is that Hillary does all the killing herself.

She’s basically Pai Mei. One touch and eventually you’ll die.

Like, at any given time 2% of the population has been murdered by Hillary Clinton, but just don’t realize they’re living on borrowed time.

If any Trumper reads that and tweets it, Trump will retweet it and the media will call it a “theory”. You do understand that, right?

And if they do it they will still be liars, cowards, and cynics who use language to excuse what they already plan to do, but are too cowardly to do without vague justification-shaped word-spew.

Look—I grew up with the family scale version of this “you said words, so I HAD to do the ugly cruel thing” horseshit, and…I refuse to accept the framing that stray statements, stripped of context, involving obvious parody, significantly tilt the scales of decision-making within a sadistic culture that is utterly uninterested in veracity and literally has a billion-dollar industry of bad faith operators deliberately creating content that is essentially pornography for conspiracists and anger addicts.

Hey ABC, “sex with minor” is not what he pleaded guilty to.
Why does the press have such problems with terms like “rape,” “lie,” and “racist?”

Well technically he didn’t plead guilty to rape either. He plead to a lesser charge of injury to a minor. If they said he plead guilty to rape it would have been an incorrect headline. If they said he plead guilty to injury to a minor it may not convey exactly what that injury was. So they split the difference and used a non legal term that described what he did to lead to the plea.

Fox: New Evidence Hillary Killed Lincoln

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what may be the most serious allegation ever made against the former Secretary of State, Fox News Channel reported today that Hillary Clinton was involved in the conspiracy to murder President Abraham Lincoln.

The latest charge against Mrs. Clinton was reported by Fox host Sean Hannity, who said that the evidence of her role in the Lincoln assassination came mainly in the form of e-mails.

According to Mr. Hannity, “If it’s true that Hillary Clinton killed Lincoln, this could have a major impact on her chances in 2016.”

…….and so it was. The emails anyway.

Looking at state senator John McCollister (R-District 20, Omaha) and his voting record and endorsements, he doesn’t really fit very well with Conservative Religion.

votesmart.org

Most recently, he voted against the bullshit law foetus-worshippers are promoting requiring doctors to tell women they can “reverse abortions” after taking the first of two medications.

It was signed into law after passing the Unicameral 36-12.

It requires physicians to say that the procedure may be reversible because the first drug is “not always effective.” It requires DHHS to print materials to hand out to all women seeking these drugs they may “still have a viable pregnancy.”

The following statements are mandatory:

“Research [bullshit] indicates that Mifepristone alone is not always effective in ending a pregnancy. You may still have a viable pregnancy after taking Mifepristone. If you change your mind and want to continue your pregnancy after taking Mifepristone, it may not be too late”; and

Materials including contact information, that will assist the person on whom an abortion is performed in finding a medical professional who can help them continue their pregnancy after taking Mifepristone.

Decriminalises breastfeeding in public (that was thrown in to get Democratic votes).

Hate is fun. It’s anger, plus the “happy ending” of visualizing the destruction or removal of an impediment to your goals. That those goals don’t make sense, that the perceived “obstacle” isn’t really an obstacle, don’t matter, because lizard-brain stuff isn’t rational even if the more sophisticated brain meat assembles patterns from it. Hate triggers aggression instincts and thus HPA activiation, and the power fantasy of winning is a dopamine.

If you think of stuff like that tweet as pornography, but instead of sexual arousal it’s gratifying because you get to hate the target more, and feel smarter, and more righteous…

…it makes as much sense as it’s ever going to make.

It’s not about feasibility or describing reality; it’s about the momentary rush of swirling narcisistic power/superiority/revenge sentimentality.

Without any evidence to the contrary, that is the only credible position to take.

Lots of people commit suicide, especially when facing life in prison. All it takes is a minute or two of inattention, and someone who wants to do it and has the means will.

Just gonna throw out there that Jeffrey Epstein can both have committed suicide and there could have been a deliberate effort to let him commit suicide, motivated by what he might say (whether or not it was truthful). The dude’s mere existence posed a plausible threat to a lot of powerful people, including the President whose DOJ had him in custody. It’s not a conspiracy theory to simply acknowledge these facts.

Given the previous suicide attempt Epstein should have been watched very carefully. Yet, he wasn’t. I’ll close with this:

Offing Epstein (or allowing him to off himself) doesn’t remove all the other evidence gathered against him (including the tranche of DVDs that look like extortion material). Those investigations will still go forward, no Epstein required.

Moreover, there’s Epstein’s partner-in-crime if they can track her down. Folks all over the world are going to be looking for her. In 2017 her lawyers claimed to a judge that she had no permanent address but was believed to be living in London.

I imagine if she turns up on the UK’s radar they will have her in for tea and a metric fuquetonne of questions.

“Opposition to the burning of kittens is not what sets the members of the AKBC apart from everyone else. What sets them apart is their strange belief that they are a special, beleaguered minority. What sets them apart is their refusal and/or inability to recognize that opposition to the burning of kittens is a unanimous, universally shared opinion. That won’t get them anywhere with conservatives. The ideology is racist to the core, and claims by people like Pence claiming they want to preserve persecuted Christians (but only them) are outweighed by the inherent racism in conservative ideology.

Of course, an Assyrian Frenchie must know all about how Muslims live in America:

No Christians ever committed genocides in America of course (cough Natives, slavery, currently stealing children from their parents).

Number of genocides committed by Muslims in the USA: 0.
As a matter of fact, number of genocides committed by Muslims in France: 0.

As for “betraying the country,” Muslims have fought for the country in every war going all the way back to the Revolution. Part of the reason we were able to make the Treaty of Tripoli with the Ottoman Empire provinces in Africa was because we specifically said the character of our nation had no enmity toward Islam as a secular state, whilst Christian European powers constantly warred with Muslim states (and vice versa).

If every Muslim in the world was really a “radical,” the rest of the world would be in real trouble. A billion radicals would be a real problem.

Those Christians who bomb abortion clinics, shoot doctors, bomb Olympic venues, steal children at the border? They’re not “real Christians.” Any Muslim (or for that matter, any person who is not a Christian) is representative of the whole group, even if Christians have to make up the crime.

Republicans are navigating the waters and doing it well

Republicans are going down the same well-tread path they’ve ventured again and again, dragging out the response to the latest shooting in an effort to outlast public outrage before quietly dropping any proposed legislation. And we saw how well that worked for them last year, when all the predictions about “anti-gun Democrats” being trounced at the polls were turned on their heads.

There’s a little more variety this go around, such as Graham championing a “red flag” law, but we know that by month’s end they’ll have moved on because the media will have moved on.

In the sad state of affairs we find ourselves in right now, the question is only when, not if.

Granted, Canada has a smaller population than the USA, and Wikipedia is not exhaustive, but they only show eleven mass shootings in Canada.

For the USA, they have to break it down into thirteen subcategories.

“One of the problems in trying to assess a causal relationship between cannabis and mental health outcomes is the chicken or egg issue. Is it that people who are prone to mental health problems are more attracted to cannabis, or is it something about the onset of cannabis use that influences the acceleration of psychosis symptoms?” says Conrod.

In other words:
a) There is no conclusion to this study
b) Every place which has legalised maryjane has put an age limit for adults

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is a United States federal-government research institute whose mission is to “lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction.”

The institute has conducted an in-depth study of addiction according to its biological, behavioral and social components. It has also supported many treatments such as nicotine patches and gums, and performed research into AIDS and other drug-related diseases. Its monopoly on the supply of research-grade marijuana has proved controversial.

en.wikipedia.org

That is the source of the study.

The study included 3,720 adolescents representing 76% of all seventh-grade students at 31 secondary schools in the greater Montreal area.

For 4 years, students completed an annual web-based survey in which they provided self-reports of past-year marijuana use and psychosis symptoms. Researchers assessed symptoms with the Adolescent Psychotic-Like Symptoms Screener, and students showed how often they used marijuana with a 6-point scale (0 indicated never, and 5 indicated every day).

(Self reporting is the least-reliable method of collecting data on a study.)

Laura Ingraham is citing a study from last year conducted on 7th graders in Montreal. She does not cite the source material, only WebMD
webmd.com
and WebMD also does not cite the study in question, just sumarises it without linking to the original paper or data.

In other words, the study is questionable and her story is fear-mongering.

The old Tories, the ones who were around when the UK had a functional government, are starting to pull no punches in regards to Brexit and Boris Johnson:

William Keegan (not a Tory, old or otherwise) writes:

Brexit was becoming a farce. Now it is turning into a coup

[…]

There is no getting away from it: this is a rightwing coup. I agree with Ferdinand Mount, once head of Margaret Thatcher’s policy unit at Downing Street in what now look like less disturbing times. Writing in the current London Review of Books, Mount sees echoes of Mussolini’s rise to power, in that “yes, [Johnson] has come to power by strictly constitutional means”; it is what happens after that matters, and the do-or-die approach of Johnson and his warlord Dominic Cummings is truly disturbing.

As my former Observer colleague Neal Ascherson says in the same vintage issue of the LRB: “We have leading Tories - not only Johnson - apparently prepared to suspend a sovereign parliament in order to force through a Brexit meant to restore the sovereignty of parliament.”

[…]

Here’s what Ferdinand Mount wrote:

How bad can it get?

Yes, this is a right-wing coup. It is duplicitous or self-deceiving to pretend that British politics is still proceeding more or less as normal. We are told that it is ‘hysterical’ to argue that Boris Johnson’s regime is in any way comparable to the nationalist dictatorships of yesterday or today. If this is a temptation, I shall happily succumb to it as a patriotic duty. By every standard of measurement, the Conservative Party has been transformed into Britain’s own BJP. ‘Optimism with a hint of menace’ was how the Sunday Times approvingly described Johnson’s first days in power - pretty much the way you might describe the first hundred days of Narendra Modi, or Donald Trump, or Benito Mussolini. Yes, he has come to power by strictly constitutional means. So did they all. It is how they govern when they get there that counts.

First, there was the brutality of the cabinet cull. Macmillan’s Night of the Long Knives pales by comparison, […]

We are already beginning to take for granted Johnson’s abusive tone towards international institutions and foreign leaders, except those like Donald Trump who talk the same mixture of bluster and treacle. At home, we are promised more mega-bridges and bonanza buses, the sorts of project with which dictators always like to dazzle the plebs. Here, the author of Boris Island Airport and the garden bridge is at least staying true to form.

What still puzzles some people is that so many old-fashioned Tories should have fallen for such a seedy, treacherous chancer. In fact, I think Johnson has succeeded because of his amorality, not despite it. The transgressive sayer of the unsayable breaks through the carapace of conventional politics with a mixture of humour and vituperation, slang and high-flown rhodomontade. Clowning is part of the act for the leader who wants to reach beyond good and evil in the fashion Nietzsche recommended. A cartoon Superman? Yes, but they all are. See Charlie Chaplin, passim.

That massacre has been far surpassed by shootings with semi-automatic weapons.

The Boston Massacre was such a big deal it sparked a revolution. It’s still taught in every high school, 250 years later. (3 people died)

If somehow Britain winds up not leaving on October 31st, and those coins are already in circulation, they could end up being a minor collector’s item.

They’re in a hell of a pickle, to be honest. Realistically, Article 50 could be revoked - but it would be political suicide to do so. Brexit could be delayed with agreement between the UK and the EU; but for how long? And what would happen in that interim?

This is all a giant clusterfuck, and no one can figure out a politically palatable way of disengaging from it. Little wonder Queen Elizabeth II has expressed “displeasure” at the state of affairs. And thanks to legislation passed in 2011, she no longer has the power to dissolve Parliament - which would mean new elections and a possible solution to the ongoing impasse.

Canada cable car cord severed in likely act of sabotage, police say (BBC)

Canadian police are investigating after a cable car gondola was sabotaged in an apparent act of vandalism.

Almost all of the 30 cars on the Sea-to-Sky gondola in Squamish, north of Vancouver, fell to the ground.

Police believe someone deliberately cut the cables in the early hours of Saturday.

The company said the incident happened at around 04:30 local time (11:30 GMT), when the line was closed, and no injuries were reported as a result.

The tourist attraction’s manager told Canadian broadcaster CBC that maintenance on the line had been conducted recently “and it was a big, thick, beautiful healthy rope”.

The rope is a multi-strand steel cable, 55mm (2.2 inches) across.

Police said that technical safety experts were assessing the line.

All of Trumpworld is in full conspiracy mode claiming the Clintons were behind Epstein’s death.

These people are fucking nuts.

Thing is, we knew they were nuts even before Trump got in the WH. He was a racist fucknut who was a conman and grifter early and often. He never had any policies that he could get specific about. His racism informs immigration policy and his outlook in curbing civil and voting rights. His opposition to the 1A is because he hates when people criticize him.

He doesn’t care about gun control and lets McConnell block action because that’s what the NRA and gun merchants want, not because of public safety.

He rails about how no one liked his El Paso and Dayton trip. He’s an immature vain egotistical reactionary know nothing. This was always apparent, but Maggie ran an article where she confirmed this (again) for all to see. There’s a reason people didn’t like his trip. It was not about the victims. It was not about comforting them or reassuring them or anything more than a photo op where he could talk about how he had bigger crowds than Beto who was running for a completely different position.

Who the fuck talks about crowd sizes when you’re in the hospital trying to meet with victims of the mass shootings? Oh wait, none of those in El Paso wanted to meet him, and they had to scramble to find anyone released from the hospital who might want to meet with him.

The meeting/photo op with the baby of the mom and dad who were murdered by the white supremacist weaponized by Trump’s stochastic terrorism was another sign of how far off the rails things went. How do you thumbs up during that? It’s not even about the baby. The baby is treated merely as a prop, and that’s all too evident from every aspect of this.

The GOP wont give a shit about any of this, because they continue to get what they want - or so they think. McConnell is the one who gets what he wants - remaking the judiciary for decades to come, so no matter what else happens, he’s insured that rights and liberties we take for granted are going to be eroded for years to come.

GOP is truly evil, and there’s no easy way back from this.

i’d say frum nails this one pretty good

The Shame and Disgrace Will Linger

Reactions to actions by Trump are always filtered through the prism of the ever-more-widely accepted view—within his administration, within Congress, within the United States and around the world—that the 45th president is a reckless buffoon, a conspiratorial racist moron, whose weird comments should be disregarded by sensible people.

By now, Trump’s party in Congress, the members of his Cabinet, and even his White House entourage all tacitly agree that Trump’s occupancy of the office held by Washington, Lincoln, FDR, and Eisenhower must be a bizarre cosmic joke, not to be taken seriously. CNN’s Jake Tapper on August 2 quoted a “senior national security official” as saying: “Everyone at this point ignores what the president says and just does their job. The American people should take some measure of confidence in that.”

But sometimes—and this is one of those times—the optical demands of the office are the only demands. In the immediate bereavement of an infant’s parents, nothing is needed but respectful silence. This is never truer than for a man like Trump, who cannot speak without giving offense and enjoying it. The photograph was released by Melania and could have been taken in the spirit of mourning that the occasion deserved, or it could have been taken not at all. It is one of the most twisted things I have seen in a long time.

Here’s what Ferdinand Mount wrote:

They saw created the crisis as an opportunity and seized it. It’s what they do.

I’ve always seen the Brexit debacle playing out as a sort of “coup” - or at the very least, a blatant power-grab by a generally-unpopular political fringe seizing on a single “nationalistic” issue* as a wedge to force their way into influence, and relying on a combination of public prejudices and political gamesmanship to get to their goal(s):
A) Britain leaving the EU, and B) the “nationalist” Right cementing their hold on Government as a reward.

I saw a piece from a British commentator recently positing that the “Hard Brexit”/”Crashout” outcome: far from being the worst-case scenario those [wasted] years of negotiation was ostensibly designed to avoid, was rather the desired outcome all along: The economic hardships that almost everyone agrees a Hard Brexit would engender were/are an irrelevancy: because the politicians stage-managing the Leave want to be able to exploit those hardships for political gain. And sadly, it looks like they are going to succeed. In the short run, anyway.

Except the entire party kowtows to him and seems to have no problem with his dismantling of the State Department and undermining our intelligence agencies.

Please, Frum, they are complicit and completely fine with him. They know that if he goes down, the press will immediately rehabilitate them and treat them as though they merit respect, when they are the ones who have provided him the freedom and leverage to wreck this nation. Frum is just another “never-Trumper” who believes that Trump was not a natural by-product of the RW ideology and that the problem is his style, not the Republican substance.

Yeah Frum is making excuses. These guys all serve Trump happily because he gives them what the GOP ultimately wants: unchecked power, right wing hacks on the federal bench, & tax cuts for their donor base.

WTF? SRSLY??

So iow, a number of folks in the US Government know and acknowledge that the incumbent POTUS (the most powerful/influential leader in the world) is an unfit, incompetent moron and a national disgrace: and we’re meant to be reassured by the statement that governmental stuff is going to mainly (or only) get done by people ignoring him?

Oh yeah: that REALLY installs a sense of “confidence”…. ///

Of course, the normal Republican policies implemented under this administration are destroying the environment, workers’ rights, health care, etc. And let’s recall that anonymous NYTimes opinion piece (probably written by someone long gone) that the administration contained officials who were protecting us — this is a farce to reassure us that there remain sane, decent, competent people in this administration. Sorry — Coats was the last of them — there is no one left who is sane, decent, and competent.

Their way of avoiding paying their workers and getting rid of those who may have been asking for rights. The next set of undocumented workers they hire will be much more submissive to avoid deportation. Those who support Trump but don’t want to be tarred with the racism charge love that Trump policies silence workers.

Don’t care what he agreed to plea to.

In other words:
a) There is no conclusion to this study
b) Every place which has legalised maryjane has put an age limit for adults

en.wikipedia.org

That is the source of the study.

Studies on Schedule One substances are really hard to do, nevertheless there is credible evidence of links between Cannabis use and psychosis. The fact that Laura Ingraham is touting the idea (and picked the wrong study — there are credible ones out there) doesn’t change that.

Unfortunately, a century of fearmongering, plus users’ wishful thinking about the ultimate safe high are adding to the problem of schedule one testing to muddy the waters.

This isn’t an argument against marijuana altogether, or even against recreational use — every drug has side effects, and people vary greatly in their reactions to them. But we need to be aware that these problems are out there.

After all, if hooch weren’t potent, we wouldn’t be using it.

It’s not a conspiracy theory if it’s true

My point about the difference, which I’m doing poorly is this: Stalin took over the entire political system. He scared everyone into supporting him at least outwardly. People here are scared, and rightfully so, but their fear is not causing people that didn’t already vote GOP to turn to him. In fact, we had a massive, woman base election because of him.

Republicans backing him are doing it for one reason: loss of power. Whether that is white supremacy, male superiority, or just unregulated capitalism, they’re backing him because he’s what that party has become.

But I’m never going to support him.

I don’t know why, but I can’t believe that republican senators are ok with drumpf destroying the intelligence community and civilian leadership in the Pentagon. But they are allowing it. There is no longer reasonable republicans, only reactionaries.

I wish we still had predatory animals in the DMV. Keep the damn deer under control.

Help with the feral children, too. Survival of the smartest and all that.
/s, I guess

Well, we do have coyotes in the DMV(District, Maryland, Virginia). And even the occasional black bear. (Usually when a young inexperienced bear makes a wrong turn from the Appalachians; Wanders southeast along the Potomac River and ends up in suburbia.)

Our major predator, though, is the automobile. But I suspect that feral children do rank up there on the predator list.

Hmm, just got the note “You are next”. Fortunately it is about a package delivery. Otherwise I might be a bit anxious.

Looks like that’s where I fall, too:

Economic Left/Right: -7.5
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.31

I wish they’d ask demographic questions. For the record: white, female, single, middle-aged, two university degrees, gainfully employed at a quintessentially capitalist enterprise (bank), homeowner. But also protests churches on Sunday. I suspect my “female, single, university degrees” outweighs other factors. Many of my friends are female, single and have university degrees, some have kids and pretty much to a woman, they have financial issues. There’s a lot of “there but the grace of God go I” here.

It’s on BritBox, under Amazon Prime. One short season a few years ago. Hyacinth and her 3 sisters (all named for flowers) tend their father, a drunken canal lock-keeper.

I worked in Houston with a gal named Hyacinth. She was from Louisiana and was a hell of a cook. She was skinny as a rail. She would bring in crock pots of food and put them in the breakroom for everyone.

This kid is well dressed, with pizza & a soft drink. There are tens of millions of kids in places like Mumbai who have none of this. It was to put her chances ahead of theirs that her parents broke the law. So I feel sorry for what this kid’s parents did to her

Not quite the same thing, but: in general, plan A of propaganda is for you to believe anything the propagandist tells you. Plan B is for you to believe nothing anybody tells you, and sit in your apartment doing nothing for anybody with a cynical smirk on your face.

Some of the questions, though: oof. In order to get the opposite of what we got, you have to answer affirmative on some ones that seemed designed to say “So, how down are you really with eugenics and white supremacy?”

Did that conclusion come from the science or the administration? Because from what I understand of the issue from the science POV (and I work very close to the people who do regulatory plant biotechnology) the causative correlation is not that strong. The regulatory science at FDA and EPA has not been totally corrupted. But again, it depends on how the decision was made; science or pure business.

from the article:

The Trump administration has told companies not to warn customers about products that contain glyphosate, a decision targeted at a California regulation that requires labels to warn consumers that the Roundup ingredient is potentially cancer-causing.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it will no longer approve labels warning glyphosate is known to cause cancer. The chemical, marketed as a weed killer by Monsanto under the brand Roundup, is currently the focus of lawsuits from thousands of consumers alleging it caused their cancers.

Such labels are “irresponsible,” EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said in a statement. He cited the EPA’s conclusions that the chemical doesn’t represent a cancer risk.

The decision from the EPA highlights the growing debate over the safety of glyphosate, with scientific research often reaching contradictory conclusions. The World Health Organization’s cancer agency has said that the chemical is “possibly carcinogenic to humans,” yet on the other side of the debate are studies that refute reports of glyphosate’s risks, such as a long-term study of agricultural workers that didn’t find a link between Roundup and cancer.
