LYRICS:
The animals, the animals
Trap, trap, trap ‘till the cage is full
The cage is full
Stay awake
In the dark, count mistakes

The light was off but now it’s on
Searching underground for a bit of sun
The sun is out, the day is new
And everyone is waiting, waiting on you
And you’ve got time
And you’ve got time

Think of all the roads
Think of all their crossings
Taking steps is easy
Standing still is hard
Remember all their faces
Remember all their voices
Everything is different
The second time around

The Animals, the animals
Trap, trap, trap ‘till the cage is full
The cage is full
Stay awake
In the dark, count mistakes

The light was off but now it’s on
Searching underground for a bit of sun
The sun is out, the day is new
And everyone is waiting, waiting on you
And you’ve got time
And you’ve got time
And you’ve got time

Did that conclusion come from the science or the administration? Because from what I understand of the issue from the science POV (and I work very close to the people who do regulatory plant biotechnology) the causative correlation is not that strong. The regulatory science at FDA and EPA has not been totally corrupted. But again, it depends on how the decision was made; science or pure business.

That is regulatory speak (the administrator saying it is protocol) for the scientists saying the link is too tenuous to approve the Iabel. California is just CA.

IARC’s conclusions are not law and there is enough data out there to suggest their conclusion is just as political. Round-Up/glyphosate has too much baggage.

The Republicans worst nightmare.

I wish protests like that could/would happen in the US.

I think that maybe ‘economic insecurity’ might actually be a fitting reason that we don’t do it. No one can afford to take the time off work, and a lot of people are afraid of the economic backlash that might occur if they attend a protest, or are arrested for non-violent resistance. Not to mention the fear of what the cops might do with you.

Leave the pit in the half you don’t use and put it in a small ziplock that you’ve squished all the air out of. It will stay green. Air is the enemy. Wrapping it tight with plastic wrap works well too.

I still have beef with spinach, but can we talk about avocados? They’re jerks that turn brown immediately.

There’s no eating part of an avocado. You have to eat the whole thing within seconds.

How to extend the life cycle considerably:

add lemon or lime.

leave the pit in (that gives off signals that make the flesh think it is still in the fruit)

seal in an air-tight container, preferably of matching size to portion)

Whew just off the plane back from Atlanta. Wow, what an interesting place. I flew in, stayed in the financial district in Buckhead, then up tp Smyrna for the trade show at a mall. Kind of an oddity, convention center attached to the shopping mall. But omg, that place was deserted practically. The jewelry show was most of the traffic there at all. Malls are just dead.

36 short hours there. But had amazing southern food, drink etc. My gracious host set myself and his staff really nice. A grand hotel. The people were super friendly. Love that about the south. But the interracial thing is… different than Los Angeles. Okay before someone from down there hollers Captain Obvious, I’m just trying to wrap my racially progressive head around the lack of mingling between the white folks and the black folks despite a ratio of about half and a half in the nice hotel bar/lounge. Bourbon bar, jazz band very nice evening. Everyone dressed for the evening.

Of course, Trump went all-in on Clinton killing Epstein. So we have a choice. Play the right-wing game and accuse Trump. Just claim the tapes and records of Trump going to Epstein’s pedophile Disneyland were deleted, destroyed whatever. Let the GOP scream “no evidence” and turn that worm on them. “No evidence he didn’t either.

Or stick to facts first and completely dismiss all the conspiracy theories left, right or libertarian pending real physical evidence/reason to say so. Which would be my first choice. Bring evidence or go away, either way. So tired of bs.

Southern malls are evolving from single-building structures to a “distributed” model. (They’re like very upscale stripmalls.) The new ones are still in play around here, the old type are hurting. Some of it has to do with the advantage of parking close-in to the stores, avoiding the blasting Sun and frequent rain.

From what I saw yesterday Philadelphia is finally entering the 21st century in voting. I went for my introduction to these new machines. First one was an iPad. This is what we will be using to look up voters names to see if they are registered. If they are registered for our division we print up a long sheet of thermal paper and hand it to them. With the printed sheet entered into the new voting machine the voters can choose their language (English or Spanish) color/contrast and font. Of course they choose who they vote for. It is printed onto the thermal paper and then deposited into a drop box that will be collected by the police at the end of the day. It looks like a decent system and like it will work fairly well.

The most perverse thing ever was how Trump failed at not losing the 2016 election.

Cohen in his testimony before congress said that Trump went into the TTMoscow because he never thought he’d win—“the world’s greatest infomercial”—and could capitalize on both the media coverage and then make mint out of his Moscow project.

But I have to contradict myself. At some point, in his “Templeton smells a rotten egg” moment, he must have realized that being President was the ultimate grift in the hands of an experienced grifter.

Logical.

Two rednecks, Bubba and Cooter, decided that they weren’t going anywhere in life and thought they should go to college to get ahead.

Bubba goes in first, and the professor advises him to take math, history and logic.

“What’s logic?” asked Bubba.

The professor answered, “Let me give you an example. Do you own a weed-whacker?”

“I sure do,” answered the redneck.

“Then I can assume, using logic, that you have a yard,” replied the professor.

“That’s real good,” the redneck responded in awe.

The professor continued, “Logic will also tell me that since you have a yard, you also have a house.”

Impressed, the redneck shouted, “AMAZING!”

“And since you own a house, logic dictates that you have a wife.”

“Betty Mae! This is incredible!”

“Finally, since you have a wife, logically I can assume that you are heterosexual,” said the professor.

“You’re absolutely right! Why, that’s the most fascinating thing I ever heard of! I can’t wait to take this here logic class.”

Bubba, proud of the new world opening up to him, walked back into the hallway where Cooter was waiting.

“So, what classes are ya takin?” he asks.

“Math, history and logic,” replies Bubba.

Cooter asks, “What’s logic?”

“Let me give you an example. Do ya own a weed-eater?”

“No.”

Given the source take this claim with a grain of salt, but pretty interesting if true:

A New York Post report on Sunday hinted that Attorney General Bill Barr may have visited the prison where Jeffrey Epstein was being held before he allegedly committed suicide.

Lewis Kasman, a former mobster and top associated of John Gotti Sr., told the Post that Barr made a secret visit to Metropolitan Correctional Center two weeks ago “about the time Epstein was found in his cell with bruises around his neck.”

“When does that happen?” Kasman asked. “The attorney general never visits jails. Something’s not right there.”

She’s the same way with my racist cousins: I’m the one who gets screamed at when I point out their bigotry because I’m supposed to be the bigger person and pretend it’s not happening.

I utterly agree with everything you said. I’m willing to bet, though, either the author or the editor(s) or both of that article are pulling their punches when they do shit like this, just like my friends and family do. Afternoon, y’all.

All the sweet corn is canned now at Chez Tumbleweed.

In the meantime, we’re up for another round of severe thunderstorms. There are tornadoes SE of Sterling, Colorado, and a huge severe thunderstorm line is about to move across the state line from Wyoming into South Dakota and Nebraska.

Laramie County (Cheyenne) is under a flood warning.

Otherwise, a boring day around here.

I see in the thread above another racist Catholic priest outed himself on Twitter. A couple months ago a Jesuit priest did the same thing. As long as they get their single issue (abortion restrictions), the Church will throw anything it claims to stand for in its catechism under the bus.

It’s a fucking untenable standard that elevates civility over everything. You know, except for the fact that it privileges racist bullshit as inherently civil long even when folks go on rants about it. And it seems to be sadly prevalent through our entire fucking society. It’s somehow always fucking worse to call someone a racist than to be a fucking racist.

This is why i don’t inherently disbelieve that there’s a danger to calling out Trump’s racist bullshit, but that’s because I just honestly believe we’re broken as a society at this point that there would be more people who would run screaming toward Trump when he’s called out than there would be convinced to leave him.

Civility has always been employed by conservatives as a tool against progress, whether now, minority religious groups demanding their rights under the Constitution, during the Civil Rights Era, the suffragette movement, &c.

The House and Senate rules against calling slavery “slavery” are another example, and the caning of Charles Sumner shows the violence inherent in Conservative Religion.

When I was a kid, we came home and found the door scratched up and the carpet torn up at the front door by our dog, and some damage on the outside of the door. I think someone was trying to get in.

A few years later, that same dog would be the one that caught and killed the rats that had gotten into the house. We figured this out because, the second time we found one dead in the middle of the floor, when my dad tried to pick the body up with pliers, the dog saw it move, thought it was alive, and jumped at it again to make sure it was dead. He had crushed them enough to kill them, but never drew any blood.

Everything Trump said on the campaign trail was as racist and misogynistic as he had always shown. None of this was new to anyone who followed Trump, and now media reports are supposedly dropping hints that he’s upset that he’s got a racism branding problem?

Cats will avoid rats if at all possible - a rat can kill a cat easily and a domestic cat will struggle to kill it. If there are kittens involved or the like (I read of one case where a cat defended a human infant from a rat) they’ll fight to the last breath but if they can, the’ll avoid fighting them.

Our Corporate Controlled Conservative Press locked their camera on empty podiums waiting for Trump and never broke away from his speeches. But they continually broke away from Hilary’s speeches and let Mark Halpern and his ilk trash her.

And when it came to newspapers, the Screw York Times tag teamed with Breitfart to publish the libelous “Clinton Cash” book. That was a key part to the Times game plan to endlessly lie and trash Hillary. Yup, I have the same unique first name, last name problem.

I don’t know the answer to this. A free and open Internet allows you to speak your mind on anything. That means rodent copulators from anywhere in the world can do the same.

On the other hand, requiring some kind of proof who you are means people can be harassed in real life, and I have no faith in corporations to keep that data secret.

On the third hand, newspapers require anyone writing a letter to provide their name and address.

re: #113 Mattand

I had a conversation with my sister last week about current events and when the child concentration camps came up, she was definitely Team “AOC is Out-of-Line Calling Them for They Really Are.” The whole “Sure, locking up brown kids based on their race is wrong and all, but you can’t say that because no one’s being gassed to death. Civility!!!”

They are literally scared of Trump and the MAGAts accusing them of partisanship, so they’re dancing around the truth.

Which is fucking nuts. The man is openly cultivating white supremacy as a voting block for Republicans, but it’s somehow wrong to point that out.

The idea of “civility” is always a one-way street, no matter how much the supposed guardians of such claim otherwise. A large part of it is an unspoken realization that a large portion of our fellow Americans are out of their fucking gourds to the point that there is a very real danger of violence on their part if their emotions are not kept in check.

The real time lightning map is kind of kewl.

We just had a strike north of town; the map in real time shows the shock wave of a thunderclap as it moves outward from the strike. As it passed over town, we got the “boom” (rattle the windows).

re: #168 Anymouse 🌹🎃

I can usually safely leave my laptops on, due to battery backup.

About 25 years ago, when I went to work for a local tech company, my boss had a personal interest in lightning and flying, so some of my earliest efforts as a programmer was developing a microprocessor based system for detecting nearby lightning strikes, in terms of signal strength (from which distance could be inferred) and direction (within about 3 degrees). The front-end hardware involved a vertical whip antenna for signal strength, and two horizontal ferrite-bar antennas for sensing direction.

Initially it just used a 40char by 2-line display for real-time info, but I also devised a serial output which would allow a standard DOS PC to record those events, and to display them on a color monitor in real-time, graphically, using a BASIC program. With creeping featurism, that BASIC program could eventually handle Pause, Rewind, Replay, and Resume (ie, return to real-time display). And it could “replay” a stored data file.

I did not know anything about Trump until he started rising in GOP polling. All I knew about him was he was a rich guy who owned hotels. I didn’t know he’d bankrupted a casino or any of the racist crap he was hit for under Nixon’s DOJ.

Most people I know don’t put as much time into learning about candidates as I do. They don’t want to hear it if you’ve learned something either.

Celebrity politics is going to kill us.

That’s really interesting on how people outside of of NY/NJ, (or in my case, Atlantic City), knew next to nothing about him.

I wasn’t following every second of the coverage, but there was enough in the Philly area (which AC usually falls under) for me to think “How the hell can anyone go bankrupt running a casino? It’s supposed to be a license to print money” and AC was pretty much the only real gambling destination on the East Coast at the time.

Add that to the news coming out of NYC that it seemed he always going bankrupt. I’m still shocked at how regional this was, given his nationwide celebrity.

Well, as far as his nationwide celebrity, I don’t know how much of that there was. He was the host of “Celebrity Apprentice” (a show I never saw or even heard of until after it was off the air), but his image was curated by the producers to show him as a “successful businessman” and not all his business failures.

Couple that with AMI killing off every bad story about him by buying it then burying it, I can see why a lot of people didn’t know diddly about him.

Just for the views and times and years and how big of a project this is. US 11-15 Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway.
Over the West Branch of the Susquehanna river.
Just north of the junction of the north and west branches at Sunbury
Decades in the making.

The last link on a highway that was the last to be linked. THE highway from Virginia to Western New York and all points in between not covered by I-81. Promised for 50 plus years it is now just 3 years or so from being reality. I drove many a night and day on US 15 from central Pa up to Buffalo. Steam Valley and 2 lanes of shit and every small town cop in every small town waiting for you to go 5 MPH over the posted speed.

He has an archive from the beginning. The engineers are using his work to document the process.
Impressive.

You need a 700c front wheel. The 38 is the tire size (that’s pretty wide on a 700c wheel.) The inside surfaces of the front fork dropouts almost certainly measure 100mm, but it doesn’t hurt to measure just to be sure. Then I’d go to a local bike shop or REI. Here’s a cheap $45 front wheel on REI that’ll get the job done. You’ll also need a tube, tire, some 10mm rim tape, a tire lever and a pump with a Presta valve head if you’re gonna DIY.
