GOP Rep. Steve King Explains the Good Side of Rape

Politics • Views: 23,019

Fresh out of admitting openly that he’s a white nationalist (and suffering no real political consequences for it), Republican dirtbag Steve King is now informing the world that there’s a good side to rape.

Because without rape there probably wouldn’t even be any white people at all, and that would be a real tragedy.

“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?” he said in Urbandale, Iowa. “Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can’t say that I was not a part of a product of that.”

King is gung ho for rape because he’s been trying to get legislation passed that would deny abortions to women who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest.

“It’s not the baby’s fault for the sin of the father, or of the mother,” he said.

Or of the mother.” I’ll just leave that one right there.

re: #296 Eclectic Cyborg

No boys in ten years? Unless birth rates are very low that seems to defy the odds quite a bit, no?

Not impossible. My village hasn’t had any boy births in a long time (it would take me some digging to find out when the last boy was born).

I looked the town up. I can only find articles in Polish and one in Spanish. The Spanish article notes the town only has 300 people.

Too short a skirt.
Displaying bare arms (which are not protected by the II Amendment)
Looked old enough (never mind age doesn’t matter)
Complained after she didn’t like it
Rape shouldn’t be illegal (libertarians) if you find a woman of any age on your property.

Just a reminder that my sister had to have an abortion because the fetus she carried died and septis set in.

If she had NOT had that abortion she would have died, left her husband a widower and her two sons motherless.

“The only moral abortion is my abortion.”

I imagine she thinks that (she’s not my sister though so I could be wrong).

The Only Moral Abortion Is My Abortion (goes to the British Columbia Pro-Choice Action Network, with tales of Antis who consistently argue those other women are sluts, including people who picket abortion clinics getting abortions).

They note that some abortion providers (which is elective, therefore they can reject patients) will now class as a contraindication antiabortion positions, because antiabortionists will often not follow up on appointments or give false information.

I just saw, and heard, a woman threaten to shoot a Walmart greeter. She was headed out the door with a cart with several bags of dogfood on the lower shelf and 3 small children in tow. The greeter was following her saying, “Ma’am! Ma’am!” If a cart has stuff on the bottom, dog food, water, etc., the greeters are instructed to check them to make sure they weren’t missed at checkout. At that point, the woman turned around and said, “If you follow me out of here, I’ll shoot you!” A police officer who was already at the store caught up with her before she got to her car. They arrested her for outstanding warrants and making a terroristic threat, and called CPS for the children. They took witness statements from me and another bystander.

She did have a gun in her purse.

re: #32 Shiplord Kirel, Friend of Moose and Squirrel

JFC. Thank god for that cop and you and the other bystanders.

I’ll be the first to admit I hate having to have the greeter check that stuff and it’s actually not legal for them to do it because once you have paid for the stuff, whether it is sitting on the bottom of the cart or not, it is now your property and you can do what you want with it.

So yes, I sometimes get perturbed about it. But I realize they are just low paid workers doing what their bosses have instructed them to do.

Which is why I’d never threaten to shoot one. Also, I don’t want to go to jail.

You know my wife and made a Wal-Mart run a few days ago and I found myself nervously looking around the store wondering “what if there is someone in here with an AR-15 right now?”, “what if something is about to go down?”.

I HATE to have to do that, but that’s the place this country has brought me to.

this is what im saying
she made a threat and so demonstrated she’s irresponsible, reckless and dangerous. so lose your:
- freedom (criminal) jail
- finances (civil) you threatened someone, they can sue you for damages
- future (gone) no more 2A rights for you, no second chance (no pun)

sorry about the kids

we start making examples, yes, examples of those who just made an example of themselves, and i do believe that most everyone else will start to be more careful

and it can be done without having to deal with any of the moronic arguments over bans, registrations, databases, insurance, training, ‘assault rifle’, whatever.

The people I picket think there is never a readon to get an abortion. Ever. Asshats.

I’ll bet if you had the ability to dig into the church membership, you’d find abortions amongst some of the parishioners.

focusonthefamily.com

Even Focus on the Family calls this “a problem,” citing a survey they conducted indicating 4 in ten women who go to churches have had abortions. They also note in the article that women widely distrust church information on options (duh, since “church information” is not real information).

That is one of the principal reasons atheists are amongst the lowest in abortions. We don’t hand out religious information on abortion, only real information.

Having said that…the small diner where I work has just hired Steve King’s granddaughter. She’s 14 or 15 and very nice. Everyone waited to tell me who she was. They were seriously afraid that I’d go up to her and say something along the lines of “Hey, are you a nazi like Grandpa?”. I smell a photo op here at the restaurant sometime during the campaign. I imagine Rep. King will use that as a photo-op. I also imagine his granddaughter will have no say in it, since King doesn’t care about the opinions of women, and probably girls even less.

It might be worth talking to your boss now about not wanting to be in such a photo-op, so when King (most certainly) appears, you won’t have to be there.

Oh well, 1 for 2 when it came to suppressing more lies from the Screw York Times…

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, unlike her co-author Glenn Thrush, was reportedly forced to pay back her advance to publisher Random House after their book deal on President Donald Trump’s presidency fell through as a result of the sexual misconduct allegations against Thrush.

According to Buzzfeed News’s report on Wednesday, Random House made Haberman give back her advance when she pulled out of the project after struggling to find a new partner to write the book. Thrush was dropped from the book deal in 2017 as he faced sexual misconduct allegations.

However, Thrush was still allowed to keep his reported six-figure share of the advance.

The Times launched an investigation into Thrush and then removed him from the outlet’s White House press team at the time. However, it seems that the disgraced journalist is quietly shifting back into his role as a White House reporter stenographer.

I had to correct that last paragraph.

Here’s the thing… he’s not exactly wrong about this. Where he fucks up is the conclusion he draws from it. It’s the same thing that happens with a lot of history - whatever happened led to these specific outcomes, so it couldn’t really have been that bad. It’s an argument you hear regarding the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade; it’s probably been made with respect to the Holocaust and the establishment of Israel.

Yet it (rather intentionally) misses the point that it wasn’t really “right” to begin with. It also ignores the possibility that the world could be better if those things didn’t happen. You can (and should be able to) recognize that people did some fucked up things in the past, and while it may have led to where we are, we have the ability to make the world a better place by making better choices on how we treat others. You don’t even have to accept moral responsibility for the actions of your ancestors!

I hope JD Scholten can use that incest comment against Steve King. I’d like to see the last House seat in Iowa flip blue and that Confederacy-apologist out of Congress.

Meanwhile, Wonkette is on it:

Steve King Wants To Thank Rape And Incest For The Wheel And Lightbulb

We know Republicans are generally opposed to abortion rights and overall bodily autonomy for women. But they don’t always accuse Margaret Sanger of personally murdering black babies and promote false narratives about imaginary infanticide. Sometimes they discuss pregnancies resulting from rape and incest, and when that happens, they compete for “Worst Statement Ever Uttered By A Person.”

The previous record holder on this subject was Rick Santorum. When he was running for president in 2012, he who cannot be Googled suggested that rape pregnancies were a Spencer’s gift from God, and only ungrateful skanks would consider exchanging them.

SANTORUM: I’ve always, you know, I believe and I think the right approach is to accept this horribly created — in the sense of rape — but nevertheless a gift in a very broken way, the gift of human life, and accept what God has given to you.

You don’t even get store credit from heaven. Carry your rapist’s baby and wear this ugly sweater God also got you.

You can’t make those arguments with anti-abortion fanatics. You simply cannot. They are so trapped in their black and white thinking that is a combination of:

* a pregnancy at any stage is a human life whose existence outweighs that of the woman.
* people who commit unlawful killings should be executed for murder.
* an abortion is an unlawful killing, no matter the reason, therefore, women who get abortions should be executed.
* a woman consents to pregnancy every time she has sex, even if she is unwilling

There are no exceptions and you cannot get around that black and white thinking.

The moral argument against incest linking it to rape is question of the power dynamic and whether one can actually withhold consent. It’s similar to the student-teacher or the employee-employer dynamic. Intergenerational incest creates that power dynamic. Intragenerational incest may not - though if pressure comes from other generations it could exist.

For Game of Thrones/ASOIAF fans, think of the Targaryans. Brothers and sisters were wed to keep the bloodlines pure, so it was intragenerational incest imposed by parents. But there were a few situations where an uncle married a niece, usually they were close in age.

The issue of consent is complicated by the inequality of most familial relationships. The national and global economy can absorb a lot of damage before teetering. Individual countries can be in recession without taking the entire global economy with it. Germany is already seeing recessionary activity, with 2019 seeing 0.9% growth. The ME is at 0.3%.

China is over 6%, but the trend line is slowly moving towards 5%. That’s been a gradual change. The US is at 2.3% and UK is at 1.2%. All figures from the IMF.

The trade war does damage to both the US and China, but China has more room to give IMO (and they can produce the stuff Americans want, but Americans aren’t producing here). They have other markets. American farmers are watching the Chinese retaliate in a very specific way that maximizes harms to American businesses.

Trump doesn’t get any of this. Or he doesn’t care.

As the guys on Pod Save the World mentioned this week, trade wars can turn into shooting wars. If China is worried about an economic slowdown, they can always invoke Rule of Acquisition No. 34 - which may explain why they’re going into Hong Kong with such force.

The issue of consent is complicated by the inequality of most familial relationships. And most people aren’t going to ask for a DNA test if somebody makes a claim for an exception to an abortion-denial on the basis of rape, to determine whether is WAS incest, with somebody wanting to conceal evidence.

You’re also left with problems like Iceland, where they have an app for cellphones (of course) to determine consanguinity due to the low population and relative isolation of the country.

“Lemme check my phone and see if we should marry - oops, we’re first cousins.”

Laws in the USA which prohibit an adopted child from knowing who their biological relatives actually promote unintentional incest.

I’ve always wondered if the notorious promiscuity of certain ministers contributes to this. The ex-wife of a famous evangelist swore to me that he had admitted to sex with 300 different women during the 30 years they had been married (1946-76). Since most if not all of these were married church ladies from the same all-white congregation, it seems that quite a few births would have resulted. In the days before DNA testing no one would be the wiser. Some of those children could easily end up marrying each other. This has gone on for more than 200 years. I seriously think we will find massive inbreeding in some elements of the population when mass DNA analysis becomes a reality, as it inevitably will.

The single biggest hurdle was finding a venue. No one wanted to deal with the hassle.

Woodstock 94 (which I attended) was a muddy mess in Saugerties. Woodstock 99 was at Rome AFB, because no where else wanted to deal. That was an even bigger mess, complete with sex assaults, rapes, etc.

No one wanted to touch Woodstock ‘19 because of the liability of hosting what could be 250-500k people and all the logistics involved. The promoters couldn’t get things lined up, and it fell apart (even though they had a supposed lineup with big names).

This is why heads end up on pikes.

I am convinced that this is because of the late ’80s phenomenon at Microsoft, where they famously had given stock options to the early employees.

Thus, secretaries were winding up as millionaires, and the CEOs of the time were all in a huff.

“How dare the peons actually get enough money to compete with us? We need more! More! More! If they’re millionaires, we’ve got to be hundred-millionaires!”

This is when it really started getting traction - the Dot-com 1.0 era, when it seemed like every dunce in tech was raking in millions. Full disclosure: I was almost one of them. Almost.

We should all be volunteering as much as we can, starting yesterday, but the value of your retirement funds on the day you retire doesn’t mean as much as people seem to think. I retired five years ago (?! time flies when you’re having fun), and most of my retirement money is still sitting in a 403b and a couple of IRAs. If yours goes down in the short run, there should be time for you to recover, although you may have to tighten your belt in the short run.

Also, if we add recession to the rest of DT’s woes, we have good reason to hope for a blue tsunami in 2020.

Any president who is in charge when that happens should be impeached.

snopes.com

Snopes says it’s unproven.

But there is no record of Trump having posted such a tweet on 6 November 2012, or on any other date. Since it’s conceivable that he published it then deleted it, we can’t reach a definitive conclusion as to whether or not it is genuine. However, there are good reasons to doubt its authenticity.

Firstly, it is strikingly similar to another tweet which was revealed to have been a hoax in February 2018, after another massive loss for the Dow Jones. On that occasion, Shaun Usher — who runs the popular “Letters of Note” blog — admitted to having fabricated an “old Trump tweet” from 2015, in which the presidential candidate was supposed to have proclaimed:

The only people winning are exceptionally wealthy people who will win on the market no matter what, and those of us too poor to gamble in the stock market.

Looking at my little Kitco app, all the major market indices are down. Gold indices are down. The dollar is up slightly.

There is no rationale to being in the stock market. None. It exists to take wealth from the middle class. Buy tulips.

I am not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, and the stock market has done pretty well by me. Just saying.

I’m not wealthy enough to own any stocks.

The only time I had anything to do with the stock market was when I had a mutual fund while I was in the Navy. The fund allowed purchases below $100 (rare for such funds).

The entire fund was ordered liquidated by the divorce court in my first marriage and all money turned over to my ex-wife. The liquidation of the account was about flat (no dividends or interest).

The Dow was at 27198 on July 30, and since then it has slid to 26269. It’s gotten as low as 25717 on August 4, but it’s going in fits and starts with big chunks of losses mixed with smaller gains. Trend line is down.

Thing is that we’re nowhere near a correction, which would mean losses back to 24479 or so. Correction is 10% off a peak. We’re not there yet. Not even close.

It closed at 25479.42

The single biggest hurdle was finding a venue. No one wanted to deal with the hassle.

Woodstock 94 (which I attended) was a muddy mess in Saugerties. Woodstock 99 was at Rome AFB, because no where else wanted to deal. That was an even bigger mess, complete with sex assaults, rapes, etc.

No one wanted to touch Woodstock ‘19 because of the liability of hosting what could be 250-500k people and all the logistics involved. The promoters couldn’t get things lined up, and it fell apart (even though they had a supposed lineup with big names).

hey they could have just invited 1000 of their closest friends.
everyone else woulda just showed up.
it might have turned into a free concert even

seriously though this is part of the changing times: ‘let’s put on a concert, man’ vs ‘well we better consider the liability first’

this from forbes. and yeah, technically, not a ‘firing’

Still, White House lawyers looked into the president’s options for removing Chairman Powell as early as February of this year. While Trump’s top economic advisers told him removal of the Fed chair is not legally possible, his lawyers have reportedly provided him with a legal outline to demote Powell and strip him of his powers.

overstock.com Inc. shares completed their worst two-day decline on record Wednesday, after Chief Executive Patrick Byrne claimed to have worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on a “political espionage” case involving Russia, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Overstock’s OSTK, -22.40% stock declined 22.4% Wednesday, the worst single-day percentage decline since 2014, after dropping 17.6% Tuesday. Combined, shares fell 41% in the two trading sessions, which FactSet data shows is the biggest drop since the online retailer went public in 2002.

Stock down 40%. Good. This guy is nuts or a liar or both.

Byrne was a guest Monday morning on Fox Business, and discussed recent articles that claimed he had a romantic relationship with Maria Butina, who has been convicted of being an unregistered foreign agent from Russia, at the behest of the FBI. He claimed to have collected evidence of a vast conspiracy involving the two 2016 candidates for the presidency, as well as other politicians, and turned it over to federal authorities.

For more: Overstock CEO spins an insane Russian-spy drama, with himself as the star

“I think we are about to see the biggest scandal in American history,” Byrne said in an interview with David Asman on Fox Business. “Everything you think you know about the Russia and Clinton investigations was a lie, it was all political espionage. I think [U.S. Attorney General William Barr] has gotten to the bottom of it.”

Byrne then issued an Overstock news release Monday evening titled “overstock.com CEO Comments on Deep State, Withholds Further Comment,” in which he proclaimed that “I am the notorious ‘missing Chapter 1’ of the Russian investigation.”

re: #405 Anymouse 🌹🎃

Thread, seventeen tweets.

And the thread’s comment section goes along a predictable path for Twitter.

First, several parents come into the thread saying thank you.
Then, a couple people note they’ve observed the same behaviour, whether at home or in a public setting like school.
Then, since Jordan Peterson was mentioned, Jordon Peterson fans swarm the thread and start insulting the parent original poster.
Then, conservatives come in and use some of their charming insults, or ask why she’s indoctrinating her kid against conservatism (well, if the white supremacist shoe fits, as she didn’t mention conservatives at all, just white supremacists), or claim she’s a bad parent for (pick a reason)
Then, the “you’re the real racist” crowd comes in, since she mentioned her white teenage son (because white supremacists aren’t targeting black teenagers to become white supremacists).
Then, the libertarian free speech absolutists come in, throwing up apologetics on why they absolutely should be allowed to propagandize your kid.
Then the Frog Brigade comes in and starts spamming Pepe all over the thread (and disingenuously claim they don’t know what the “clown world” frog meme means, or it means something different than what it does).

I ain’t signing up for Twitter. The owners are Nazi-adjacent if not outright supporters.

I’ve seen those and while that gives hope, the only thing that matters is the head-to-head matchup state by state. And that info wont really be accurate or knowable until next year.

But if those favorability numbers keep sagging and Texas turns deep blue, then you know Trump is well and truly fucked.

To follow up on an earlier discussion, I am really beginning to suspect that the explosion at the Nyonoksa missile testing site may have involved a hitherto un-publicized nuclear thermal rocket rather than the 9M730 Burevestnik nuclear ramjet cruise missile. Russian reports all claim that liquid propellants were involved but the nuclear ramjet uses atmospheric air as its propellant.
Energia corporation, with whom “Foamy” Santorum has an employee in common, allegedly has plans for a crewed Moon landing by 2025, with a Mars landing sometime after 2035. That is an awfully short time frame considering that Russia does not have a booster powerful enough for that mission, and has had no luck developing one. A nuclear upper stage would allow existing boosters to handle the job, essentially a short cut to the Moon. It is a known, if risky, technology and Putin has shown that he doesn’t mind risk.

I am very, very, very glad to see that it looks like we finally broke through the “TOO SOON!” fake ass barrier which has stifled the voices of reason since, like, forever.

Nothing on Philadelphia from my rep (Adrian Smith), the other two reps from this state (Bacon and Fortenberry), or my two senators (Fischer and Sasse).

Just perusing Twitter, it seems Republicans are keeping their heads down as they do when a mass-shooting goes down. Tomorrow it will be “it’s too soon to politicise this” because they don’t care about cops either.

NERVA Nuclear rocket engine.

This is fairly simple in both concept and execution, essentially a nuclear reactor replaces the combustion chamber of a rocket motor, instantly heating a working fluid (liquid hydrogen in NERVA) to incandescent temperature and blowing it out the nozzle. The exhaust velocity is much higher than for a combustion rocket, and the amount of propellant used for any given thrust level is therefore lower. This means it pushes longer for any given propellant mass and will therefore add more acceleration.

Harry Reid has come out in favor of abolishing the filibuster:

The Senate today, after years of abusing an arcane procedural rule known as the filibuster, has become an unworkable legislative graveyard. Not part of the framers’ original vision, the modern filibuster was created in 1917. The recent use of the filibuster — an attempt by a minority of lawmakers to delay or block a vote on a bill or confirmation — has exploited this rule, forcing virtually all Senate business to require 60 of the 100 senators’ votes to proceed. This means a simple majority is not enough to advance even the most bipartisan legislation.

….

The Senate is now a place where the most pressing issues facing our country are disregarded, along with the will of the American people overwhelmingly calling for action. The future of our country is sacrificed at the altar of the filibuster.

Something must change. That is why I am now calling on the Senate to abolish the filibuster in all its forms. And I am calling on candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for president to do the same.

That is what is suspected blew up outside Archangelsk. Norwegian and Finnish atomic energy and/or radiation safety authorities are monitoring the situation closely, still waiting for official word from SSM (Strålskyddsmyndigheten), the Swedish equivalent. I have a feeling this may turn out to be as bad as the Kyshtym thing.

*nods*

What I have a hunch happened is that one of the lines which carry the fuel through the reactor core failed. Even if it just affected one rod, it’s pretty bad, and if it resulted in a cascading failure… Let’s just say I don’t want to think about a firenozzle on stereoids spewing fission products all over the landscape too much…
