What really strikes me about this performance is Tommy’s incredible rhythmic drive. It’s just flawless.

This video is part of the “Tommy Emmanuel – Center Stage” DVD which was filmed at the Big Room at the Sierra Nevada Brewery in Chico, CA. Filmed and Directed by Peter Berkow.

And Joey Gibson shows up right after a warrant for his arrest was issued…

The Multnomah County district attorney’s office has filed criminal charges against Joey Gibson, the leader of Vancouver-based Patriot Prayer.

Patriot Prayer is a far-right group that attracts white supremacists and has engaged in violence.

Gibson told conservative talk show host Lars Larson Thursday he believes he was unjustly targeted by the Multnomah district attorney in the lead up to anticipated demonstrations in downtown Portland on Saturday, which are expected to attract far-right figures from across the country.

“Obviously, they’re going to say I can’t participate in any protests in Portland,” he said.

But it looks like the Police are letting Joey do his thing…

One gets a real sense that that is exactly what the media figures will be the case come 2021. That either Trump will win reelection and they’ll continue to be treated like the slaves in a sex dungeon while their reporters try to follow him around like damned paparazzi. Or a Dem win will, in which case they’ll go back to the pre-Trump “norm” of daily press briefings, “exclusive interviews,” and being able to hire a comedian for the annual WHCD without worry that the new prez will stand them up and his chosen stand-in treated like a “victim” for having her eye-shadow joked about.

One of my never Trump Republican followers has decided that both fascists and “antifa” are exactly the same. There’s really not a big enough eye roll for that.

Chalk another fuck up to the Proud Boys here in Los Angeles!

While it may not look like it just yet, long-running Atwater Village bar the Griffin will undergo big changes. The once-popular dive-y sort of spot has an all new ownership team, and soon they’ll be working up a new name, new look, and whole new strategy.

For years, The Griffin operated as a mellow spot for mostly Eastside locals. It was the kind of place where anyone could swing by to munch on bar snacks and drink inexpensive brews, and maybe even catch a live band once in a while. Then, last year, an impromptu meet-up of far-right group the Proud Boys led to a ruckus at the bar, which led to a cavalcade of negative attention for the bar. Some felt that ownership and management didn’t go far enough to disavow the group, both at the moment and in the immediate aftermath, even after the Griffin closed for a time and reopened with a charity event to benefit the Southern Poverty Law Center and several local charities.

Now those same owners have sold off the Griffin to a first-time bar and restaurant group with long ties to Los Angeles and the music industry. While they won’t be immediately changing the property, the plan is to eventually close and reopen as Moon Room, complete with an updated menu of drinks and food, and loads more live music. Partner Dan Wilson tells Eater that, after years of watching Eastside spots get gobbled up by big corporations like LiveNation, he plans to keep an independent streak when booking the bands. It’s a similar sentiment that the new owners of the Silverlake Lounge want to affirm.

The Griffin was a nice place to go to…until the Proud Boys contaminated it…

Tehachapi man in custody after posting threat to social media, police say

A man remained in custody Friday after posting on social media about committing a shooting at a local retailer, police said.

Kevyn Devereaux, 29, also posted photographs of an assault rifle, according to police.

Devereaux admitted to posting the threat but said he was only “messing around” and would not have carried out the threat, police said. He indicated he was aware of recent mass shootings and that people would likely take the threat seriously.

A search of his residence in the 21600 block of Brook Drive turned up five guns, including an assault rifle and ammunition believed to belong to his roommate.

Man accused of carrying numerous weapons into downtown Austin park

A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly carrying several weapons into a downtown Austin park.

Austin police responded to the call around 1:32 p.m. at Pease Park off North Lamar Boulevard. A witness called and said they saw the suspect, 23-year-old Dalton Broesche, pulling a semi-automatic weapon out of the backseat of his car.

According to official court documents, police located him walking through the park carrying a loaded nine millimeter handgun, an extra magazine for the pistol, an expandable metal baton, two knives, a flashlight and black gloves.

Once confronted, police reported that he also took officers to a wooded spot in Pease Park where he had hidden the fully-loaded, AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle. The rifle was carrying a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

EDIT: From the Newsweek Article in question:

Cartoonist Art Spiegelman, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his graphic novel Maus, withdrew his introduction to a new Marvel comics collection after its publisher insisted he remove a description of Donald Trump as “Orange Skull,” drawing a comparison between the president and Captain America’s fascist enemy, the Red Skull.

In an introduction commissioned by publisher the Folio Society for its upcoming collection, Marvel: The Golden Age 1939-1949, Spiegelman described how dire threats like the Great Depression and the rise of Nazism inspired Jewish artists and writers to create the first superheroes, or godlike “secular saviors.”

Spiegelman concluded his essay by drawing a parallel to the resurgence of far right politics in the modern era. “In today’s all too real world, Captain America’s most nefarious villain, the Red Skull, is alive on screen and an Orange Skull haunts America,” Spiegelman wrote.

The Folio Society asked Spiegelman to remove the Orange Skull reference from the essay, claiming Marvel Comics was trying to remain “apolitical” and wouldn’t allow its publications to take political stances. In response, Spiegelman pulled the introduction and will instead write on the subject in an essay to be published in The Guardian on Saturday.

EDIT: From the Newsweek Article in question:

“I have a new dream. A new vision. Freedom must feel fear. And fear leads to control. I was wrong about this country. The wonderful ‘United’ States of America. It has all the resources already in place. It has the right attitudes laced within. They just need to be exploited. To become the perfect nation — America just needs a little push in the RIGHT direction. ” — The Red Skull (US Secretary of Defense Dell Rusk), AVENGERS (Volume Three) # 69, “Red Zone Part Five: Red, White, and Blue,” Cover date: September 2003.
