The Racism Connection: Trump Once Suggested Trading Puerto Rico for Greenland

Politics • Views: 28,608

President Racist Grandpa once infamously mused aloud about how much better America would be if we had fewer immigrants from “shithole countries” full of brown people, and more from countries like Norway where the blood and soil are pure and snowy white. (Or so he thinks.)

And if you were wondering how his deranged idea to buy Greenland (a country that isn’t for sale, and a fantasy that he’s now provoked an international incident over) ties in to his virulent racism, now we learn that he’s been privately “joking” about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland.

While President Trump seemed to pull his interest in purchasing Greenland out of thin air this week, he’s actually been privately talking about buying the semi-autonomous Danish region for more than a year, according to the New York Times.

In fact, last year the President even joked about trading Puerto Rico — the U.S. territory he’s treated with contempt ever since it was ravaged by Hurricane Maria — for Greenland, according to a former administration official who spoke to the Times.

Please note: Trump never “jokes” in a normal human sense.

If this were to actually happen, it would have the added bonus of making all the Puerto Ricans here in the U.S. automatically no longer American citizens, and thus vulnerable to immediate deportation proceedings.

Trump jerks himself off every night at the thought of being able to round up all the Puerto Ricans in New York, pack them into container ships and send them back.

Getting rid of all the Puerto RIcans would also remove the danger of Florida flipping reliably blue/Democratic, due to the immigration of people from the island that Trump has basically ignored.

Not a joke. He’s trying the Trump marriage approach. Get rid of the old and busted and go for the new hotness.

He oversaw the historically awful response to Hurricane Maria and continues to show depraved indifference to the plight of millions of Americans living in Puerto Rico. He thinks he can swap millions of Americans, many of whom are not white-skinned, for a predominantly white European enclave that the Danes aren’t going to sell to him no matter what?

Yeah, that’s not a joke. That’s Trump’s base racism shining through. It’s the one honest thing he does - he telegraphs his racism and bigotry for all to see; his base just doesn’t care.

The cruelty is the point.

White people with barely a high school education have been fed 40 years of hate and fear. They have been told they are the real victims, and that their steadily declining standard of living is due to there being lazy black & brown people sucking up all the social services that they have a god-given white right to.

There is a major distinction between a real estate deal and an exchange of sovereign territory for money. Although it is a “real estate deal” in some sense of the word, there are aspects to it that Trump simply did not find necessary to process.

He certainly deserved the response that he received.

That’s an interesting gray area. What I’ve heard from lawyers here is that those born before the political status change will keep it, but those born after will no longer have the citizenship. Of course, this is in context of a possible Puerto Rican independence, not a trade.

It would, likely, come down to how any potential deal is negotiated. There could be a scenario, for example, where those born in Puerto Rico would lose their US citizenship while those born stateside would keep theirs. Or those who stayed in Puerto Rico after a certain dated. More likely, everyone would get to keep their US citizenship as the US allows (but doesn’t encourage) dual citizenship (and even if another country does not, you can retain your US citizenship).

But let’s be honest, Trump doesn’t know a cotdam thing about US citizenship law, I mean he thinks he can end birthright citizenship via executive order… despite the 14th Amendment, a 100 year old Supreme Court decision, and the US Code all clearly establishing birthright citizenship.

my mantra of ‘control your weapon at all times’ include any sale, transfer, gift etc

if the seller, in which i include lawful gun dealers, doesnt take reasonable steps to ensure the buyer is 1) allowed to own and 2) isnt arming up to do mass damage, then nail the seller. take his freedom, finances and future.

selling to someone with reckless disregard - someone who’s not supposed to possess or that any reasonable person could see was bent on destruction means the seller lost control of his weapon. true if you’re a gun dealer, someone at a gun show, over the internet, or are giving/gifting your gun to your kid

Yeah, thanks to Trump, the estimated time to flip moved up something like a decade.

California was basically a swing state until Wilson pushed Prop 187. Granted, it passed with 59% of the vote.

But since then, Republicans have won a total of 5 statewide elections (including Arnold’s win in the Davis recall election). And we have 7 statewide offices up every 4 years, plus the senate elections.

And now the GOP is in third place behind independents in California.

Jackie Speier calls for Trump’s removal from office under 25th Amendment

A Bay Area congresswoman is calling for President Donald Trump to be removed from the presidency under a never-before-used constitutional provision.

Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, on Tuesday became the first member of Congress to say that Trump should be removed from office with the 25th Amendment, following his latest comments blaming “many sides” for violence after white nationalist protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“POTUS is showing signs of erratic behavior and mental instability that place the country in grave danger,” Speier tweeted Tuesday evening. “Time to invoke the 25th Amendment.”

Jackie Speier KNOWS crazy, psychotic behavior. She stared crazy directly in the eye and lived to tell about it. As an aide to Congressman Leo Ryan, she was at the airfield near Jonestown when the party was ambushed by People’s Temple fanatics. Ryan and four others were killed. Speier was shot five times but survived after waiting 22 hours for help.

That’s all well and good… but the 25th Amendment’s provisions are triggered by the Cabinet, none of whom are going to turn on Trump. Congress has another way to remove a president.

Trump’s Bid to Become Born-Again Fails as Jesus Turns Down Friend Request

The billionaire Donald J. Trump’s bid to become a born-again Christian failed over the weekend after Jesus Christ turned down his friend request, campaign officials have acknowledged.

Jesus, who has not generally been active on Facebook, made a rare appearance on the social network on Monday to announce His decision to ignore the presumptive Republican nominee’s request for a personal relationship with Him.

In a brief post, Jesus offered the following explanation: “Just everything.”

The turndown from Jesus Christ, the inspiration behind one of the world’s most prominent religions, caps what has been a tough month for the Trump campaign.

That is right. And the Republican trained monkeys in Congress will push for it.

Ascension Parish has a 287(g) agreement with ICE, which means: Through the 287(g) program, state and local police officers collaborate with the federal government to enforce federal immigration laws. Ascension Parish just renewed its 287(g) agreement LAST MONTH.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office recently extended its agreement with federal immigration authorities that allows deputies to check the citizenship status of people booked into the parish jail — part of a nationwide program that critics say creates a climate of fear within immigrant communities and erodes their trust in local law enforcement.

In 2017 the sheriff’s office became the first agency in Louisiana to enter into a 287(g) agreement with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. Now two other parishes — Ouachita and Terrebonne — have also signed on, joining a relatively small group of fewer than 100 agencies nationwide.

theadvocate.com

We have that bullshit agreement here in Maricopa County, and Sheriff Joe Asshat Arpaio used it to harass brown people. We are still cursed with it. I’m hoping a lawsuit will get Ascension Parish’s goddamned attention, because this is BULLSHIT.

We were on a relatively normal process of getting Naturalization status for my wife when 9/11 happened. Then everything was frozen. But I had received a grant to do research abroad. Somehow, we managed to get a deferral (I can’t remember what it’s called, but basically you can’t leave America until the Naturalization process is complete) but she had to be back within one year. So we came home two weeks before the one year permission expired.

I went through my citizen line upon return, but she and my infant son weren’t getting through. So I went to the area behind the line she was in and saw her crying, and so I approached. The officer at customs was yelling at her: “why did you leave the country?”

It was fucking written on a document stapled into her passport: May leave for one year. We were out for about 350 days of the year.

To this day i could probably recall that fucker’s face. I approached and intervened to explain. He huffed and puffed. I probably wasn’t supposed to do it, but he quickly relented and she and my son got through.

Now I’m worried about her leaving again, though I shouldn’t. She’s thinking of citizenship, but she has some money in her country’s welfare system like social security pension that she’d like to have, but can’t if she renounces her citizenship (she thinks I’m going to die on her! Ha!).

Now I have to worry again….

re: #191 Barefoot Grin

She should wait until 2021. My children are citizens, but they are Chinese immigrants, and I worry about if they’d be allowed back in the country if they traveled overseas.

As an aside, I am really flummoxed by otherwise intelligent people who say, “Buying Greenland makes strategic sense”, as if it belongs to a government and not the people living there.

I mean, we “bought” the Louisiana Purchase from France, but what claim did France have to it?

I grew up with Amway and Hal Lindsey-esque Christianity starting when I was a pre-teen. I’m glad I didn’t grow up with it from day one, I’m not sure I would have known to think for myself and run from that crap. By the time I was a teen I was calling bullshit on this nonsense and that led to me being homeless my senior year of high school. I take this shit personally, it ruins families. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if my dad had said no to his high school buddy who had a great new business opportunity, we would have avoided all that crazy religion too. My family is sort of ok today, but not at all close. The end times shit was it for me, and I figured that out at the first bible study I went to based on a book called the Late Great Planet Earth. It was just dumb to me, went against most of the things I was taught. Money. It was always money, the promise of more, being blessed and being deserving for Hard Work, that you did for Amway. Prosperity gospel meets End Times, it was fucking weird. It was more than a bit cultish and very sexist. Jewish people were viewed as flawed but redeemable, but only a certain number and the rest were doomed to suffer with the rest of the godless. It was mean and not the same Christian stuff I was taught. We weren’t even religious at all til Amway messed shit up. This shit has been percolating for a long time. There’s a lot of mess to clean up. I hope it’s even possible now.

gauge wise i’m going thinner and thinner ,i’ll probably wind up stringing “Rev. Willy’s Mexican Lottery .007’s -.038 ” on my electric before too long.

Jewish humor time! (in spoiler tags because it’s kind of long)

The Midrash tells us that two brothers lived and farmed on that site. One was married and had a large family, while the other was single. They lived in close proximity to each other, and each worked his land growing wheat. When harvest time arrived, each was blessed with a bountiful crop and piled up his grain for long-term storage. The unmarried brother, observing his fortune, thought to himself that his brother had many children who will need lots of food, while he had much more than he needed. He arose in the middle of the night and secretly took some from his grain and put it in his brother’s pile. Similarly, the married brother thought to himself that he was blessed with a large family who helped him, while his brother lived alone and could surely use more. He, too, arose in the middle of the night and quietly transferred grain from his to his brother’s pile. In the morning, each pondered why there was no noticeable decrease in his own pile, and so they repeated the transfer the next night. These nocturnal activities went on for several nights until one night the brothers bumped into each other. In that instant, in the dark of night, the glow of brotherly love lit up the mountain sky; they each understood what the other had been doing and fell into hugging, kissing, and crying of joy. On this very spot G-d made a choice to build His house, the Beit Hamikdash.

Not too far away, two other brothers lived and farmed. One was married and had a large family, while the other was single. They lived in close proximity to each other, and each worked his land growing wheat. When harvest time arrived, each was blessed with a bountiful crop and piled up his grain for long-term storage. He arose in the middle of the night and secretly took from his bothers grain and put it in his pile.
