WaPo breaking news just now:

The British Parliament has taken control of the Brexit debate and is challenging Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s “do or die” plan to get Britain out of the European Union on Oct. 31. Here is what we know.

● The House of Commons has passed a bill seeking to avert a “no-deal Brexit” in October. The legislation — which won’t be final until the House of Lords votes later this week — would effectively delay Brexit another three months.

● Johnson hosted the first “Prime Minister Questions” of his career and called for an election on Oct. 15. He is not expected to get sufficient parliamentary support for that on Wednesday, which would be a third major defeat in two days.

● An election may be inevitable, though. Johnson is pursuing a risky strategy, after purging his party of rebels, including the grandson of his idol, Winston Churchill.

Some Wohl details, from his Arizona crimes:

Among the 14 alleged counts of fraud in connection with the offer or sale of securities included in the cease and desist order are the following:

Wohl and WCIG falsely represented to Investor 1 that only 20 percent of his investment would be at risk, yet lost approximately 50 percent of his Investor 1’s account value between December 2015 and January 2016, according to the securities commission.

Wohl and WCIG falsely represented to Investor 1 that WCIG managed between $9 million and $10 million in assets, but actually managed less than $500,000, the order said.

Wohl and WCIG misled Investor 1 regarding the risk associated with the investment by representing that a textbook trade for WCIG had a 99.5 percent probability of profit, according to the commission.

Wohl, Johnson, and MAl falsely represented to potential investors that MAl had 35 years of experience flipping single-family residential real estate, but MAl had existed for less than six months, the order said.

On July 27, 2016 through August 27, 2016 Jacob Wohl and Matthew Johnson offered for sale unqualified securities in violation of California Corporations Code 25110 which has a three year statute of limitations

They had to file by August 27, 2019 to toll the action.

Wouldn’t call it privilege. Bond is only 5K and odds are the State WILL NOT pay for an extradition. I hear this all the time on my scanner. Police will run a check for 99s (warrants) and have it come back that X has a warrant in Y but Y will not pay for extradition. X is then allowed leave.

Lawhawk can correct me if I am wrong, but these types of warrants are generally used to keep a person from coming back to the State as they face arrest/jail if they do.

Probably ok if it is an established company.

I paid that for a 3.0 ton installation (new inside unit w/ gas furnace/blower/coil, outside unit 16 SEER, Trane) in Dallas a few years ago. I’ve heard the price of new installs is going up due to the sunset of older refrigerant. I was recently quoted 10K for a similar install.

If the rest of the unit is in decent shape, fixing the leak might be worth it to skip the cost of a new unit.

But, if the replacement unit is far more efficient than the older unit, then you might break even on the replacement cost relatively soon (making it a better deal than just fixing the leak).

i know what you mean but it’s a choice, totally a choice
its not that they cant. it’s that they wont.

- they all know that any public disagreement with the prez means theyre out
- they all do know what is true, what reality is, etc
- they’re each protecting their own jobs, power and futures

no one’s ever had to publicly disagree with a president on this scale before

to split a hair, i see ‘praying’ in this sense as a word choice. what they’re actually doing is ‘hoping’ dorian’s path will change, people will be safe, etc., and im all for that.

if they are actually praying, in an attempt to influence who or whatever put dorian out there in the first place, well then, nope.

Fuck this country, part #3217:

NBC - A judge Tuesday denied almost every request to dismiss charges or ease bail for three dozen counterprotesters who were arrested at the Boston Straight Pride event on Saturday, despite prosecutors’ requests, according to NBC’s Boston affiliate.

The counterprotesters, who outnumbered the parade crowd, accused the organizers of the event — billed as an opportunity to “embrace the vibrancy” of heterosexuality — of creating an atmosphere of violence toward the LGBTQ community.

Charges against those arrested included disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, though some were charged with assault and battery on a police officer.

LoL. All of you who are complaining about Walmart no longer allowing open carry in any of their stores do realize that YOU are also prohibited from either open/concealed carry in ANY federal facility. Hell, even Idaho, a conservative State, prohibits the open/concealed carry of a firearm in the State House as well as Court Houses. Also, as far as Walmart (and others) no longer carrying certain firearms or ammo, it’s called the free market. You all champion it until it decides not to cater to your wishes. Then it becomes a socialist/communist plot to undermine your rights. Make up your fricking minds. The market is either “free” to determine what it will provide, or it isn’t. You can’t have it both ways.

The other thing about this is that we’ve made it really hard for anyone to make themselves ineligible to buy a gun, meaning that the vast majority of Americans can legally buy guns.

This vast majority includes many reasonable, responsible people who would never loan their gun to anyone AT ALL, let alone to ‘a friend’. But there are also a lot of goobers, jeeters, jaspers, and just plain goofballs out there who haven’t got the sense god gave geese but they can legally own a gun, even though the thought of them armed is enough to give you the willies, and you’re trusting THOSE assholes to make decisions about giving guns to THEIR friends.

It’s like no one realizes (as just one example) that investing in green energy sources helps create these wonderful things called jobs which have a habit of keeping people OUT of poverty.

It’s just so fucking maddening.

They realise it. Their owners don’t want that. Profits over people, and green energy sources mess with Koch Industries and Exxon-Mobil’s profits.

It’s cheaper for such companies to buy Republican politicians than invest in new technologies.

You don’t loan a gun to a friend who doesn’t own a gun, because they almost certainly are not familiar with guns (because if they were and could legally own a gun, they probably wouldn’t need yours). You’re giving a gun to someone who might shoot themselves or someone else by accident, or who might pull a gun and not click off the safety, and have the gun taken away by the person they were trying to defend themselves from, who might kill them, and/or use the gun in further crimes. You may be giving the gun to someone who will panic when confronted by a panhandler and shoot them. Or they might leave the gun in a purse or backpack, or just on a shelf in a public restroom, where anyone could get hold of it, including a child.

This is all leaving aside the possibility that they don’t own a gun because they’re not legally allowed to.

And Obama’s light bulb rules are not Obama’s. They are George W. Bush’s.

And they don’t ban incandescent light bulbs, but offer a mix of policy changes and market forces to gradually phase them out.

You can still buy incandescent light bulbs of any size that was currently made (we use a 300W light in the winter to keep our kitchen pipes from freezing).

Way back in October 2007, candidate Barack Obama pledged to “immediately sign a law that begins to phase out all incandescent light bulbs.” About two months later, President George W. Bush signed a bill to do that — the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.

Most of the lights in my house are T4 fluorescent tubes. Both bedrooms have incandescent sockets which have the mini-florescent tubes. The front porch has a 15W incandescent (amazing how much light you get out of that when it’s dark).

Not only is the energy savings worth it, but, to those so inclined (as I am), all “smart” bulbs (Z-Wave, Zigbee, Philips Hue, WiFi, etc.) are LEDs and many of them are infinitely dimmable (and, in the case of Philips Hue bulbs, can easily change lighting colors).

My brother has a gun. If/When we go out to the range, he’s there with me. He’s just not going to just give it to me, because I don’t have a lot of experience with guns. This is the sensible and smart thing to do.

What we should have—and don’t—are the gun equivalent of dram shop laws, licensing laws and insurance requirements. You can’t own a gun without holding a license and insurance. If you lend out your gun, you are responsible (to be worked out similarly to the dram shop laws). I realize this is strict, but I am TIRED, VERY TIRED of people leaving their guns around the house and kids pick them up and shoot themselves or someone else. Someone dies, but nobody goes to jail because we’ve exempted guns from anything resembling serious laws and regulation. (Yes, I’m aware there are some laws, but not near enough). Hell, you can’t even sue a gun manufacturer for a freaking DEFECT—they are THAT protected.

You can sue for defects in manufacture and other things. You cannot sue for “misuse” (such as shooting people).

The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) is a United States law which protects firearms manufacturers and dealers from being held liable when crimes have been committed with their products. However, both manufacturers and dealers can still be held liable for damages resulting from defective products, breach of contract, criminal misconduct, and other actions for which they are directly responsible in much the same manner that any U.S.-based manufacturer of consumer products is held responsible. They may also be held liable for negligent entrustment when they have reason to know a gun is intended for use in a crime.

I agree a dram shop law example would be useful.

I see that Republicans are making their usual threats to leave the country if a Democrat, especially a woman, is elected President. We should do everything possible to encourage this.
Consider, for example, a Dunkirk in reverse: The new Democratic President Elect announces a 3 day amnesty, starting January 20,. for all Republicans who may have broken the law. They have that much time to get out of the country after the POTUS is sworn in. This should be announced far enough in advance that Putin and the Chinese and anyone else who wants them will have time to send cargo planes, cruise ships, container carriers, oligarchs’ yachts, cattle boats or whatever else they might have to pick them up. The ships would have to wait outside the 12 mile limit until the amnesty takes effect, at which point they may enter US ports for exactly 3 days under strict quarantine: Anyone can go aboard, no one comes off. Of course, particularly desperate refugees will be free to sail, swim, or inner tube out to the fleet in the meantime.

Well, from the forum I manage over at Yahoo, someone sent me a link to a video on YouTube claiming Washington Irving was an atheist (no, he was a Presbyterian) who was part of an atheistic conspiracy to make Christians look bad for believing in a flat Earth prior to Columbus.

No I will not put that video here. Is there a class beyond “brain dead?”

Irving did falsely introduce the idea Europeans did not know the Earth was a sphere before Columbus, but it was not part of some grand conspiracy for (name something).

Due to Irving’s influence, a lot of schools taught this misconception for many years.

Europeans knew the Earth is a sphere. That’s been know for thousands of years. Columbus just thought it is smaller than it is.

This is the man the Denver GOP chairwoman went after with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King gun meme and attacks across social media. He is running for an at-large seat on the Denver School Board.

Probably a little late, but I only realised this morning that this had already deteriorated to an actual end of carriage already:

Somehow I doubt I’m the only person annoyed with this, though admittedly it’s a small number since most of us aren’t in the Denver-controlled media market and most of those who are, aren’t as into indoor team sports, but I still want to at least bounce it off you?

re: #398 NO SMOCKING GUN!

It would appear Maryanne Williamson’s prayers are having the opposite effect. Dorian is back to major hurricane status, hurricane force winds are up against the coast now, the storm is growing larger, and will come very close or cross the coastline near Charleston.

Maybe she would do better to direct her prayers from the shore in Charleston Harbor?

Tropical Depression 12-E has formed in the central Pacific, and is expected to become a tropical storm. It is currently forecast to pass well-south of Hawai’i.

And right into Alabama.

re: #294 Belafon

I went and looked, and the federal law is basically that you can loan a gun to a person who could own one on their own: blog.princelaw.com

Which brings up the question, if they don’t have a gun already how do you know they are legally able to own one in the first place without a background check?
