I really don’t care much about the debate other than @BravelyWriting is going to live blog it.

She does some writing for Wonkette and is my second fave Twitter follow after @AngryBlackLady

Yes, you should follow her. Or else.

Which of these people can really move those Americans who voted for Trump but now have buyer’s remorse?

Any of them?

Pete, no offense, but I covered this the other day: The whole idea of “unity” after 9/11 is so much nostalgic BS. The only thing that unified America after 9/11 was anger and shock, both very negative emotions as we saw in the following year.

No. None of them.

But… which of these people can really move those Americans who sat out the last election because “both parties are the same,” or “Hillary would be worse”? Dear God, I hope most of them.

These criticisms of Kamala (and Amy) are always about picking a few cases in which some injustice appears to have been done.

But what the critics never seem to acknowledge is that there are millions of cases, and trying to make a prosecutor, even the state AG, seem like they are responsible for every choice is just wrong.

The critics take the easy road.

And this is the problem with criticizing anyone in office. You have to take the whole picture in.

Meanwhile, 23&Me and ancestry.com have both run numerous commercials where they brought on one or more people who share stories about how their families believed for generations that they were descended from one place, but then learned they actually came from somewhere else. Ex: The guy who believed his family’s ancestry was German, only to find out they were Scottish.

I actually agree with this wholeheartedly. Fully automatic weapons and silencers are illegal to all but a select few who pass very rigorous background checks. Whoa. What a concept.

I have friends who own AR-15-style rifles. They think they should be able to keep them. I agree, you can keep them if you pass a rigorous background check and an interview with local police.

And firearms should be insured against negligent use or if it’s stolen and used in the commission of a crime.

Basic stuff. BUT MUH 2ND AMENDMINT

According to Warren, salaries aren’t included in that value:

Elizabeth Warren: “The insurance companies last year alone sucked $23 billion in profits out of the health care system. $23 billion. And that doesn’t count the money that was paid to executives, the money that was spent lobbying Washington.”

Warren’s campaign directed us to a report from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, a nonpartisan group of industry regulators. It supports her assessment.

The report says that in 2018, health insurers posted $23.4 billion in net earnings, or profits, compared with $16.1 billion a year prior.

re: #102 Belafon

My Dad, a former Army mechanic in Vietnam, will completely approve of this message.

These days, a lot of people will respond favorably to Beto (and hopefully other Dems as well) saying what needs to be said about guns in this country, because they’re tired of the almost-daily blood sacrifices to the Tree of Liberty and the 2nd Amendment.

The NRA and the Republicans will bleat and squeal like stuck hogs, but fuck ‘em, because they’d never vote for a Dem anyway and you can’t work with people who never deal in good faith.

(you and I had an exchange somewhat related to this a while back, when I commented on how the trump campaign relied on three-word, three-syllable chants that were especially memorable as a result. Progressive groups need to learn to do the same on behalf of their own cause)

If AOC did not exist it would be necessary to invent her just for the vast stretches of Republican mental real estate she takes up rent-free.
If I were a billionaire, I might be tempted to set up my own Republican PAC. We would run commercials denouncing Jussie Smollett and notorious Civil War era Democrats like Jefferson Davis. Our crowning effort though would be a video called “The Return of Freedom.” This would feature heroically chiseled, black-clad SWAT cops herding slovenly leftist professors out of their classrooms, all to a background of waving flags and stirring music. A follow on scene would feature long lines of filthy, ape-like Latinos and Muslims being herded toward the border, Bataan death march style. I’ll bet we could get C. Kirk, Ass-Wohl and the Rage Furby to participate gladly.
On second thought, such a thing might actually help the Republicans by convincing hard core, self-disenfranchised racists and conspiracy dupes that it’s not all rigged after all.

Another thing I just realized is that the trump rally chants contain, as marketing parlance would put it, a Call to Action (“lock her up”, “drain the swamp”, etc)

So sane people/groups could try something like:

Stop the con
End the grift
Vote them out
Im-peach trump

And while it doesn’t contain a Call to Action, an example of a chant that’s already taken off is “Moscow Mitch”
