So am I! When I was at UT Austin beginning in 1980, there was a media lab in the Undergraduate Library. You were supposed to request coursework (like Spanish records) but they also had a great collection of popular music. You could request a whole album to be played and I used to request The Cars every time I was up there. And a lot of the times the whole album would be played.

The lick that ends the solo in You Might Think is one. He actually bends a string to walk through a diatonic scale. Fast. That is not easy to get perfect.

I’ve heard of The Cars as being described their greatest hits album and it’s certainly the first half of one due to they synergy between Easton and Ocasek.

One of my early memories of my family road tripping to visit relatives in the midwest was The Cars. We listened to the Greatest Hits cassette tape to death. It was the one tape in the vehicle which everyone in the car could agree on. One time we drove to New Mexico to visit some of my parents’ friends, it was the only tape in the car. We listened to it over and over again for several hours.

Guess I’m showing my age but the first set of celebrity deaths I was aware of were in 1963-64 when Eddie Cantor, Stan Laurel, Gracie Allen and Harpo Marx all died within a couple months of each other.
Mom and Dad were really depressed when JFK was assassinated. Thanksgiving was the next week and nobody felt like having the traditional dinner. Mom just popped Swanson dinners in the oven that time and we just didn’t feel like talking at the table at all.
Then Dr. King and Bobby were killed and boy Mom got the blues. She said it was like a 1-2 punch.
Then there was that sad time 69-70 when Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison all died one after the other. Felt like that was when the 60s died.
After Nixon got re-elected Truman and LBJ died within a couple weeks of each other.
And on the job I got the calls that Gene Roddenberry and later Irwin Allen both passed within a short time. Felt like a big chunk of my childhood just dissolved…

For me it was JFK. I was 13 at the time. School had just let out for the day and there was a huge crowd of kids standing in the hallway. The principal was shouting YES THE PRESIDENT WAS SHOT! HE’S DEAD! NOW GO HOME!!
Some of the kids started crying.

Yes I remember that sad day. 3rd grade class. We were watching an educational program on WQED in Pittsburgh, it was a spelling bee. We were spelling the words that the instructor was saying then all of a sudden the tv instructor said that there was a news bulletin. The screen went blank. An announcer said that either JFK or LBJ had been shot and they said Jackie was covered in blood but they didn’t know if she was shot.
The principal came in and turned the channel to KDKA (CBS) in Pittsburgh. We saw Walter Cronkite doing his best to find out what was going on…then he did his best to hold back his tears as he said JFK had passed. We were told to go ahead home and Frank the janitor lowered the flag to half staff as we left. I rushed home. Mom just cried…
Then Mom and I watched as Oswald was coming out of the police station. Mom was on the phone with a friend and said she hoped someone would kill Oswald. Right after that, Ruby shot him. Mom yelled, “OMG He’s been shot!”
We were both stunned…

Now more memories. Mom and Dad loved Mario Lanza and Nat King Cole. They played their records a lot. Both of them really were affected when these two greats passed.
For me, it was when Frank Zappa died. He had been my muse ever since I first heard Freak Out in 1966. Freak Out was the first LP I ever bought and I had to hide it in my bedroom since Mom and Dad would not allow “jungle music” to be played in the house. So when Mom and Dad went grocery shopping I’d put Frank on the record player. Once they almost caught me and I had to pull the LP off the player and hide it in a stack of opera records. That night I got up at 1AM, snuck downstairs to retrieve Freak Out and put it back in the hiding place…
I did this everyday after school scores of times when I was in the 5th grade: I was always the first one home (I rode my bike to school when the weather allowed), I’d insert “Nevermind” into my father’s *big expensive* stereo system and blast “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” One time my neighbor (who was elderly) knocked very loudly on the front door and told me to turn it down. She told my parents, I got in trouble. Was grounded, yelled at, etc.

I was in English class when a student who seemed distressed entered, told the teacher something, and left. She said nothing to us and continued the normal program. I was delivering the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette at 6 in the morning. The paper indicating that Bobby appeared to have won the California primary. I was delivering the papers not knowing what happened until I went to the first tavern that was opened and the TV was on saying Bobby had been shot…Felt like a real jerk delivering the rest of the papers with them saying that Bobby probably won California and the Democratic nomination…

For whatever reason its the musicians I miss when they pass. Singer-songwriters. Actors don’t impact me that hard. Really young I was struck by killings. JFK, Bobby Kennedy and MLK. For me back then celebrity death was murder, not natural causes.

i was waiting in line to play tetherball.
My mom is 72. She can still stand on one foot. Her mother died of Parkinson’s disease at age 91. It was a slow and tragic decline. Ever since her mother died she stands on one foot for 10 seconds to make sure she can almost daily. I watched her do it about a week ago.
So I am home, listening to The Cars on my headphones with a bit of wine to hand. Good times rolling indeed.

I remember senior year (1972-73) where Jobriath was advertised everywhere as being the next big thing. The first singer who said he was gay. Controversial as all CENSORED. Pittsburgh radio stations would not play his “offensive record”. WIIC (Channel 11 the NBC station) did not show the episode of The Midnight Special where he was singing several cuts from his debut album. The record stores in the Pittsburgh area were pressured by churches to not stock his record. He did a second album that flopped and then he faded into obscurity. His body was found in his apartment, he had been dead several weeks, cause was AIDS. His parents buried him with a marker that showed his actual name and they did everything they could to erase what he did…

He lied through his teeth all during the confirmation hearing, and now we have confirmation of same. He perjured himself in that testimony. That itself is an impeachable offense.
Yeah, add that to the list of things that wont happen because the GOP controls the Senate and removal of yet another person wholly lacking in character and judgment who engaged in high crimes/misdemeanors is thwarted so long as the GOP retains control and can get to 60 votes (and yeah, even if the Democrats retake, getting to 60 is a very long shot). We shouldn’t write all of this off, and it makes 2020 even more important than it already is.
Enablers like Collins must be booted from the Senate, and the race to unseat McConnell is even more important.
And yet all that pales to Trump getting kicked out of office (and ultimately being held criminally responsible for his crimes in and out of office.
The entire GOP shows depraved indifference to the rule of law - and howl when anyone tries to hold them accountable. Hold them accountable. Vote the fuckers out of office, and then hold those who engaged in criminal conduct criminally liable.
It also means that Democrats have to focus on more than just one election - or one election cycle. It means taking the long view of rolling back the GOP at all levels of government. Every election needs to be contested. Every last one. Yeah, I know that there are districts that are solidly red and have been for generations, but you signal to Democrats everywhere that fighting for every district matters, and that their voices matter. It also means that Democrats have to accept those who are not going to have the super progressive far left views - that they need to take a big tent approach, where they can squabble on some policy matters, but align on the big picture - namely that defeating the GOP to protect civil and voting rights and the rule of law is paramount, and that defeating the GOP in the Senate means putting teeth into the checks and balances that McConnell has thrown out the door so that he can remake the federal judiciary in the Federalist/Heritage minset.

Police said they executed a search warrant for his home, where at least one illegal device was uncovered.
Sources said people who know Kibler reported the threats to authorities.
The case remains under investigation by the Kenton County Police Department.
Police declined comment Monday morning, saying they expect to release more information once they notify the organization involved in the threat.

The states and stakeholders in seeing Purdue/Sacklers held accountable for their wrongdoing will fight the bankruptcy claims in court - claiming that the only reason for the bankruptcy to be filed is to avoid responsibility for the crisis of their own making. And one could make a convincing case that you could pierce the corporate veil and hold them personally liable for the malfeasance by Purdue since it’s a closely held company.

Never had the pleasureof seeing him perform. I did, however, literally walk into a conversation between B.B and Les Paul at a club in Manhattan one night. Despite being face to face with two living legends, I managed to recover enough to tell them both how much I loved and respected their work.
Lester was surly. B.B. put out his hand and introduced himself and asked my name. If ever there was a moment that I was a complete goofy fanboi, that was the moment.
