FBI Arrests Army Soldier for Allegedly Planning to Bomb Major American News Network

US News • Views: 32,301

We’re starting off the week with news of yet another far right terrorist (allegedly), a US soldier who discussed plans to bomb an unnamed major American news network, and kill presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke.

Just another day in Donald Trump’s America.

The FBI has arrested a U.S. soldier who allegedly discussed plans to bomb a major American news network, planned to travel to Ukraine to fight with violent far-right group Azov Battalion and allegedly distributed information online on how to build bombs. He also allegedly suggested targeting Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke.

According to charging documents in the case, Jarrett William Smith, who transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas, in July, joined the U.S. military only after first expressing his desire to fight in Ukraine.

On Aug. 19, 2019, Smith allegedly spoke with an FBI informant in an online chat group and discussed a plan for an attack inside the U.S., his search for more “radicals” like himself, and the possibility of killing members of the group Antifa.

Y’know, try as I might, I can’t ever remember there ever being such a case like this or those past ones during the Obama years. Or even the Dubya years. I remember cases during the Clinton years, but those were generally in response to shit that was said about him rather than by him.

It’s almost like having a hate-spewing, gutter-dwelling shitstain of a human being in the White House leads people to think that this sort of thing is acceptable…

I’ve never bought into the idea that Trump or his toadies are actively planning to stage an attack or in some way create a scenario where they’d then try to “postpone” or “cancel” the election next year, but I cannot for the life of me say that I find the idea that they wouldn’t try to take advantage of a domestic terror attack to do such totally impossible.

These nimrods have never struck me as overly great at planning things, but they have certainly impressed me with their ability to take advantage of otherwise adverse situations.

It was a shit posting in 1984 let me tell you. I might have stayed in the Active Army except for the year of hell there. The Infantry BN next door had concertina around the windows of the barracks to keep the soldiers _IN_ the place; awol rates were horrific. Of course, during a January FTX that same BN had over 40% of their personnel go down with some form of cold injury like frost bite. Shit leadership & shit troops; if 1ID had gone into combat then we would have been slaughtered in minutes.

Trump makes idiotic comments about how he’s this great arbitrator and totally ignores that Pakistan was where OBL was ultimately found and killed by a US raid in Abbottabad, which was down the road from a major Pakistani military base. He can’t keep up with his own bulkshit talking points - because he’s always got to make it about himself and how he’s the best/answer to everything, when he doesn’t have a clue about anything, and shows no interest in facts or logic, which are kind of necessary to being an arbitrator or negotiator mediator.

In fact, it’s part of the job description of being an arbitrator/mediator - to know the facts and circumstances and reach a consensus that works for everyone. Trump is supremely ignorant about everything and doesn’t listen to anyone who tells him what he doesn’t want to hear.

Yeah, it’s the mobster mentality that most troubles me, because they have no rock-bottom they can ever reach. No act is too evil, too depraved. They are not the cute Tony Soprano that people saw on HBO.

Trump marinated in the world of wiseguys, Vory v Zakone and his father’s neo-Nazi leanings.

We’re seeing how his instincts are to break the law and then grab his balls and shake them at the so-called “authorities,” daring them to try to hold him to account…

I NEVER worried about getting shot at school. Beat up? Maybe if I said the wrong thing to the wrong kid but that’s just school for you. But never shot. It didn’t even cross my mind.

Now I have nieces and nephews in my life and to think they will have to, as FIVE YEAR OLDS, start training for these kinds of things, is so disheartening. Even worse, I think about what would happen if I lost any of them in a school shooting. :(

Her speech:

This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be standing here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to me for hope? How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!

For more than 30 years the science has been crystal clear. How dare you continue to look away, and come here saying that you are doing enough, when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.

You say you “hear” us and that you understand the urgency. But no matter how sad and angry I am, I don’t want to believe that. Because if you fully understood the situation and still kept on failing to act, then you would be evil. And I refuse to believe that.

The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50% chance of staying below 1.5C degrees, and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control.

Maybe 50% is acceptable to you. But those numbers don’t include tipping points, most feedback loops, additional warming hidden by toxic air pollution or the aspects of justice and equity. They also rely on my and my children’s generation sucking hundreds of billions of tonnes of your CO2 out of the air with technologies that barely exist. So a 50% risk is simply not acceptable to us - we who have to live with the consequences.

To have a 67% chance of staying below a 1.5C global temperature rise - the best odds given by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - the world had 420 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide left to emit back on 1 January 2018. Today that figure is already down to less than 350 gigatonnes. How dare you pretend that this can be solved with business-as-usual and some technical solutions. With today’s emissions levels, that remaining CO2 budget will be entirely gone in less than eight and a half years.

There will not be any solutions or plans presented in line with these figures today. Because these numbers are too uncomfortable. And you are still not mature enough to tell it like it is.

You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to fail us I say we will never forgive you. We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not.

The allegation is that Joe Biden pressured Ukraine’s government to have a specific prosecutor removed in order to protect his son Hunter. That allegation falls apart when you realize that the prosecutor in question was never investigating Biden’s son, but instead an oligarch who was the CEO of a company Hunter Biden sat on the board of, and the investigation had quietly ended without charges being filed before Joe joined the broad international diplomatic push to have the prosecutor removed. The prosecutor in question was universally thought of as deeply corrupt, never once filed a high profile case, and was notorious for “investigating” targets so that he could shake them down for payoffs.

The prosecutor in question was universally thought of as deeply corrupt, never once filed a high profile case, and was notorious for “investigating” targets so that he could shake them down for payoffs.

Also, after the corrupt prosecutor was removed his successor re-opened the investigation into the oligarch, only to close it a second time without filing any charges. There is no evidence whatsoever that Biden moved to have the second prosecutor removed or that second investigation reigned in. The truth is that Hunter was only ever tangentially related to any of this simply through his association and there was no allegation of wrongdoing ever leveled against him.

Lastly, it’s hypocritical as fuck for Trump to rail against “corruption in Ukraine” and try to use it as a weapon against Biden’s family while he kowtows to MBS in Saudi Arabia, KJU in North Korea, and while his adult children use the Trump properties to openly launder bribes from corrupt governments and meet with corrupt foreign leaders to pursue lucrative building contracts. Ivanka and Jared are sitting in the White House right now racking in Chinese patents after negotiating a badly needed bailout from the Emirates for his families 666 5th Avenue property.

The sheer gall of it all is just staggering to behold.

I’m seeing shit on my Facebook feed about how she’s being manipulated by her devious parents and that she isn’t that bright because of autism. My friend and follow lists keep getting smaller and smaller. And I honestly don’t give a fuck anymore.

Being on the autism spectrum doesn’t mean you’re not intelligent. Some autistic people (like me) are very intelligent but can be socially clueless. I always hated being told I wasn’t working up to my potential.

I think it’s great Thunberg has done so much despite the autism. I’d note that she wasn’t diagnosed until a couple of years ago, which is another data point on how autism manifests differently in girls than in boys and is diagnosed much later than boys.

Asperger’s does not prevent someone from being brilliant and successful; indeed they can often focus and understand details that would overwhelm the rest of us. One person profiled in Michael Lewis “The Big Short” was an M.D. with Asperger’s who read financial statements, comprehended their underlying flaws, and made a fortune on shorting certain securities.

Exactly. My parents were German and Irish, but the Irish were Europe’s mercenaries for centuries and many of the Spanish Armada’s ships foundered off the Irish west coast as they tried to get back to Spain. Many of the rescued sailors liked the place (good Catholic country and all). I wouldn’t be at all surprised if I had a drop or two of Moorish blood in my veins.

I believe they’ve pinpointed (as much as one can) the Mitochondrial Eve to somewhere around 150,000 years ago. The Mitochondrial Adam is a bit harder to pinpoint, and range anywhere from 180,000 years ago to 520,000 years ago.

Apparently the common ancestor of Homo Sapiens and Neanderthal is around 580,000 years ago.
