The former Secretary of State, and author of ‘The Book of Gutsy Women’ with daughter Chelsea Clinton, explains that America’s founders created the impeachment option for exactly this kind of situation: when a president attempts to subvert the Constitution.

Gorka blocked me on Twitter long ago, but I just discovered how to embed his videos in my tweets anyway.

It’s pretty simple: you just get the URL of the tweet and append ‘/video/1’ to it. This trick doesn’t work with all videos, but it worked with Gorka’s.

re: #276 Belafon

Boris has to worry about all those environmentally aware Brexiters, though.

I’ll admit that’s a real thing, though I suspect you were being fully sarcastic. They’re the ones who think the Labour Party can be converted into a full socialist party more in the Hungarian mold than the Swedish, if only Brexit brings about enough pain to cause the riots that will lead the country to reject capitalism once and for all.

OTOH, they’d never in a million years vote for the Tory backbenchers that Boris would need to survive the snap election, so they’re kind of a group you don’t need to appeal to.

I think he’d probably gain Tory votes by disposing of the cup in plain sight. Besides the which, if you’re buying it already-prepared, there’s a very good chance that it’s in a disposable cup anyway, and pouring it into a reusable one doesn’t do much to change the impact of said disposable. After all, not all of us subject reusable travel mugs to a soapy scrub every time we make to have them refilled, say when we’re actually camped out in the Starbucks or Caribou.

Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, a longtime advocate for stronger government whistleblower protections, has a new statement on the Trump-Ukraine call whistleblower: “This person appears to have followed the whistleblower protection laws and ought to be heard out and protected”

I assume that if a whistleblower cries “wolf” that they face serious consequences.

But Trump is trying to short-circuit the system here by declaring it all a scam without letting the details be heard.

Nothing to hide here, folks, just business as usual.

Donald Trump took an oath that he would “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” and that he would “to the best of [his] Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Is he living up to his oath?

Has Donald Trump even have any idea of what the execution Office of the President entails and has he ever read the Constitution?

About the trial, some reasoning at dailykos.com on why the jury went with guilty of murder:

The premeditation involved in choosing to go in with guns blazing when there was no immediate threat to her person, even if she had been at her own apartment, seems to have been the logic the jury was able to use when seeking justice in this case.

Speaking of Game of Thrones

Back in the 80’s somebody recommended me a book by an unknown author about a fictional 60’s rock band that modeled themselves after figures from Lord of the Rings, The Nazgúl.

I forgot all about it and could not even recall the name of the book until I did some Googling about, The Armageddon Rag, by a then-unknown G.R.R. Martin.

Seems that the book was a critical success but a commercial flop and he went back to screenplay writing for several years until launching a new project…

Switching it up to college sports for a second, this made me laugh a bit:

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith on Tuesday said he is against the Fair Pay to Play Act, which was signed into law Monday and states that colleges in California cannot punish their athletes for collecting endorsement money.

“My concern with the California bill — which is all the way wide open with monetizing your name and your likeness — is it moves slightly towards pay-for-play,” Smith said, “and it’s very difficult for us — the practitioners in this space — to figure out how do you regulate it. How do you ensure that the unscrupulous bad actors do not enter that space and ultimately create an unlevel playing field?

From the university that tried to trademark “The”. Also, it’s not like they’ve been very good at keeping unscrupulous bad actors out as the rules are now.

Trump’s Attacks Escalate

over the past 72 hours, trump has:

- Called 3x for arresting a House Democratic chair steering his impeachment inquiry, falsely claiming Rep. Adam Schiff broke the law and even suggesting he committed treason.
- Demanded to meet the whistleblower, which violates the anonymity guaranteed by whistleblowing laws and is opposed by Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley.
- Attacked his own watchdogs, pushing an incorrect story about whistleblower forms being shadily changed.
- Repeatedly defended as “perfect” the Ukraine call where he pushed for investigations into his political rival Joe Biden.

Ladies and Gentlemen, The President of the United States!
c’mon, give it up

I’m not really sure you can apply traditional contract or employment law to a presidential appointee. (Yes, technically he was appointed by Tillerson, but he’s still acting on behalf of the executive branch.)

That said, I’m fairly certain that executive privilege has an exemption for fraud-crime like the attorney-client privilege does. Which means he’s probably going to be able to testify about all of this… I wonder what the procedure will be if/when there’s objections based on privileges.
