Impeachment Week: Trump Involved Pence in Efforts to Pressure Ukraine’s Leader

Politics • Views: 25,188

One of the ways a crime family operates is by making all the cronies participate in doing crimes so they’ll have a motive to participate in covering up the crimes. And also, be more malleable when the boss needs them to do more crimes.

Mike Pence has been managing so far to keep his name out of the Ukraine mess, but today that changed bigly.

Trump got Pence to snub Ukrainian President Zelensky’s inauguration, and then — after Trump’s now-infamous July 25 call — used Pence to deliver the news that he was continuing to withhold US aid unless Ukraine did more about “corruption.”

Trump spelled out in classic mobster fashion on that phone call what he meant by “corruption.” He meant “get me some dirt on Biden.”

Pence’s people put out a statement that he didn’t know about Trump’s extortion scheme, but uh…

Perhaps most significantly, one of Pence’s top advisers was on the July 25 call and the vice president should have had access to the transcript within hours, officials said.

Not just Pence. Oh yeah, he’s up to his eyeballs here. He knew and had reason to know. Any attempt to claim that he didn’t know because he didn’t read the readout is laughable but for fact that everyone in Trumpworld is incompetent and corrupt, so he might not have known or cared that he was listening in on corrupt acts in the process.

But back to who else is involved here.

Perry. He was the guy Trumpworld sent in Pence’s place. What did he know and when did he know it? What did Trump tell Perry to get him on the plane in Pence’s place?

Oh,and because I CL’d from the last thread, here’s something that flew under the radar today: Trump AG Secretary Purdue to small farmers: go fuck yourselves.

Farmers voted for Trump and got fucked at the drive through the first time around. How many of them are going to stick around for the repeat performance? Quite a few - even though they are demonstrably worse off thanks to Trump’s idiotic trade war, which is pushing farm bankruptcies up and slowing the economy measurably.

I still think, if Trump is actually impeached, there’s a decent number of Senate Republicans who would vote to convict because they would want to run against Pence in 2020. Cruz, Rubio, and Paul are high on that list. Romney and Scott are sleepers in that regard. Sadly, that only gets us to 52 votes, so we need 15 more before these folks would be willing to break ranks.

This is the bit I find most interesting:

I feel like we’re a benefit to society

So, if you think you’re a benefit to society, you get government money? There’s some amazing entitlement in that line of thinking.

Mitch won’t impeach both Pence and Trump.

Make Pence resign or impeach him first, then make Trump appoint someone half-way acceptable (sorry, none come to mind) then impeach Trump.

So the big corporate farms can withstand the tariffs but the small ones can’t. Then the small ones go out of business and the large ones gain more market share. Then as they further consolidate their power, they jack up prices and eat up the remaining 4 dollars the middle class got from Trump’s tax cuts. And all by design.

Farmers love Trump sticking it to the liberals. Even after they lose their farms they will still vote for Trump no matter what.

My congressman, Andy Biggs, the new head of the Freedumb Caucus, is completely obsessed with Rep. Adam Schiff. To wit, he has had his office put up three posts about Schiff in the last seven hours.

I’m thinking that by the way Andy is squealing, Adam Schiff has the GOP by the family jewels in ways we don’t yet comprehend.

This kind of sums up the whole Wohl/Burkman thing in two sentences:

It’s just like with the duck boats; these WWII combat aircraft were never intended to carry civilians and definitely not with airframes that were built as fast as they could be churned out under wartime conditions and are pushing 75 years old or more.

I love old planes and it’s cool to see them fly, but it’s time to put most, if not all of them, in static displays.

At the least, they shouldn’t be allowed to carry passengers. I’m fine if trained airmen want to fly them for fun and for airshows, but selling tickets on a WWII rustbucket is asking for trouble.

My grandfather was a professor in the ag department in the state university where I was born—after he managed University of Michigan farms in the 19-teens and then University of Illinois farms. His wife, my grandmother, like him was born on a farm and her sister and her husband farmed in western Illinois. All of their 5 sons helped. Three of them farmed. In my generation, several farmed for many years, but ultimately couldn’t acquire enough land to make it profitable, so they went into insurance or teaching, etc. Big agriculture made it nearly impossible to continue the family farm in one of the most fertile and productive places on earth. That’s why they vote republican. The old “New Deal” farmer was long, long gone.

Socialism.

Speaking as the long-time wife of a grain farmer, I can tell you several things:

1 - it is necessary for a society to be able to feed its people

2 - if a country relies on other countries for its food supplies, it can be held over a barrel very easily

3 - the American people expect cheap food

4 - weather happens, and it disrupts the food supply easily

5 - climate change means “weather is going to happen” more often

6 - if #2 is true, the same is true if large corporations are allowed to “own” the production of foodstuffs, because they will use that monopoly to make money

IMO, there is socialism, and socialism. Taking care that we have a healthy farm economy is not socialism.

re: #101 retired cynic

Don’t buy into the idea that socialism is a bad thing. Also, while socialism has a very specific meaning, like capitalism, they are both just models. Things in real life are more like 75% socialism, 25% capitalism. Society choosing to spend money to protect farming is socialism to me, but is not a bad thing at all. I would not mind that prices are being held artificially higher to support farms, as long as we also support subsidies for people in order to pay for them.

Any GOP Senator who voted to convict Trump would be viewed as a traitor by the GOP base and have zero chance of winning the GOP nomination for President.

Just an idle thought- maybe the Senate will vote to remove Trump on a unanimous voice vote? Nothing on the record, nothing to have to explain/apologize for!

Or maybe (along the lines of the blank cartridge issued to a firing squad), they can announce the vote as 99-1, so any one of them can claim to be the “1”..

Therein lies the rub for the Republicans: either stand with and defend Trump and watch the Dems finally take his avaricious presidential malpractice apart in Congress or (nominally) stand with the Dems in what most of the Trump faithful will (quite correctly) see as naked self-interest and watch as their career dissipation lights go into Ludicrous Speed.

Either way, fuck ‘em.

The biggest reason they are so popular is people know exactly what they are getting with Nickelback, and the songs aren’t terribly challenging. They just make some people dance. It’s sort of like not everyone wants to read Moby Dick but would prefer romance novels.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A Coast Guard lieutenant accused of stockpiling weapons and drafting a hit list of prominent Democrats and TV journalists is expected to plead guilty Thursday in a case charging him with gun and drug offenses.

A docket entry says Christopher Hasson, 50, is scheduled to appear in federal court for a re-arraignment, which typically signals a plea agreement has been reached.

A person with direct knowledge of Hasson’s plans said he’s expected to plead guilty during his court appearance Thursday in Greenbelt, Maryland. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because a plea deal hasn’t been announced.

So my new bookshelf stereo had been sitting in its box for a week or so, and I decided I’d better set it up before the warranty expired. That was my afternoon — I had to move a bunch of furniture to get the old one out, wires and all, and the new one connected. A five CD player was the main attraction of this particular system.

The first thing I played was a remastered 1955 performance of The Marriage of Figaro. Not a good test — I need to find something recent.

Not, I think, Nickelback.

Just in case no one has answered yet:
Not sure what you mean by a mic with a small output speaker, but as far as inexpensive microphones go, the Shure SM57 is rugged and durable and used on stages everywhere and in studios too (I can’t remember the name, but I recently read of a producer who records entire albums with only SM57s.)
It can handle high SPL, so along with vocals it can handle bass, guitar, drums, etc.)
