And who will be on the Sunday Gasbag Shows?

NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.)

ABC’s “This Week”: Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)

CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Reps. Jim Hines (D-Conn.) and Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.)

“Fox News Sunday”: Reps. Val Demings (D-Fla.) and Chris Stewart (R-Utah)

CNN’s “State of the Union”: GOP presidential candidates former Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.)

From last month, a preview of what’s coming to this country: Putin’s thugs raiding opposition members under pretext of “fighting corruption”:

MOSCOW — In a nationwide crackdown to prevent discontent in Moscow from spreading to far-flung regions, Russian security forces on Thursday raided and searched hundreds of homes and offices of activists across the country who were affiliated with the opposition leader Aleksei A. Navalny. […]

The money-laundering case against Mr. Navalny’s organization, announced in early August, is widely viewed as transparently political. It is focused on allegations that his foundation funded its work with 1 billion rubles — around $15 million — “obtained by criminal means.”

He hasn’t lost Carlson, because the sack of shit immediately starts spinning Donny’s actions as “not that bad” before the end of the first paragraph. Then spends the rest of the op-ed making the “If he’s so bad, just vote him out!” argument that has become the last refuge of wingnuts who have no real defense for the man’s actions. How does Tucker know it wasn’t a crime? Because the DOJ (read: Barr) said so and wingnuts have never questioned the conclusions of the DOJ…oh wait, they’re doing that now as they cheer on Billy flying off to foreign locales to ask their help in “investigating” the FBI.

What The Epoch Times is peddling hasn’t been confirmed. Stedman might have used a legitimate source like the Washington Post.

Oh wait, no legitimate sources are reporting this. The Epoch Time’s article is spreading rapidly across right wing fever swamps like The Washington Examiner though.

According to The Epoch Times Mifsud’s laywer is only talking to EP and only via E-mail.

I’d put the link to the article there Stedman is quoting, but I don’t want to kill too many brain cells here.

The Guardian reported it thusly:

The Daily Beast reported on Wednesday that Barr and Durham met Italian agents at the US embassy in Rome, where they were shown evidence that Italy had on Mifsud, including a tape he handed over to the authorities when he applied for police protection after disappearing in October 2017. On the tape, he reportedly explained why he might be in danger.

Here’s the Daily Beast’s coverage of the incident and provenance of the tape:

The Italian justice ministry’s public records show that Mifsud had applied for police protection in Italy after disappearing from Link University, where he worked and, in doing so, had given a taped deposition to explain just why people might want to harm him.

A source in the Italian Ministry of Justice, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Daily Beast that Barr and Durham were played the tape.

In addition Marcy Wheeler compiled all the coverage of Barr going to Italy to listen to the deposition, which Mifsud reportedly handed to the Italians when he applied for asylum.

Yesterday, the Daily Beast provided details about what Bill Barr was doing in Italy on the trip to dig up dirt first confirmed by the WaPo. According to DB, Barr and John Durham went to Italy on short notice (that is, even as the Ukraine scandal he is personally implicated in was breaking) to watch a videotaped deposition by Joseph Mifsud.

Marcy also goes back and establishes the initial impetus for Barr’s and Durham’s trip:

The Attorney General’s voyage to Italy got set in motion last fall when Ross published two stories relying on Mifsud’s “attorney” Stephen Roh (who himself has close ties to Russia). The first, dated September 10, reported that Mifsud was alive and well hiding in Italy. The second, published October 24, was explicitly a set-up for George Papadopoulos’ testimony before the joint OGR/HJC investigation into the Russian investigation. It included comments from Roh alleging that Mifsud was not a Russian asset, but was instead a Western one.

So if you’re done talking down to me and acting like a gigantic asshole the underlying point Stedman is trying to make in his tweet seems perfectly valid. Instead of directly interviewing actual FBI agents or primary fact witnesses in the case, Durham is letting Barr drag him around the world to listen to random videotapes of fever swamp retcon bullshit from Mifsud, who for all intents and purposes acts exactly like a Russian asset.

And who will be on the Sunday Gasbag Shows?

NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.)

ABC’s “This Week”: Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)

CBS’s “Face the Nation”: Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Reps. Jim Hines (D-Conn.) and Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.)

“Fox News Sunday”: Reps. Val Demings (D-Fla.) and Chris Stewart (R-Utah)

CNN’s “State of the Union”: GOP presidential candidates former Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.)

I’m sure there will be a heaping helping of Republican $tenographers$ on the panels tossing softballs at Republicans and spitballs at Democrats…

Okay. Offer me another coherent, non-paranoid explanation for why a guy standing out on the street at 1 a.m. gets gunned down by people driving by: they either thought he was somebody they needed to execute, or he WAS somebody they needed to execute.

Ha now that’s an analogy. But hey if Trump being an ass who can never admit being results in his downfall, I’ll take it because he’s going to take a lot of people with him and the GOP base will be in shambles since they’ll be convinced that he was betrayed by McCarthy and Mitch.

I think Trump doesn’t know a damn thing about what the President does.

He ran as the ultimate Outsider, the anti-politician, not beholden to any special interests.

The prime example is his Wall: had be been at all serious or competent, he would have, immediately upon assuming office, assembled a planning commission to assemble design, engineering, environmental and legal studies as well as proposing a budget and timetable.

He has done none of that.

Yeah it’s what they wanted. My point is we have someone who has no idea about the office they’re in charge of. Like past awful Presidents. Yes, they were awful but in my life and reading of history, we have never had a President that misunderstood what the Presidency was so profoundly. That may have been Trump appealing to some but imo it’s also going to be his downfall along with his inability to ever admit being wrong.

Do you have a link to the source for this? Just about everything I am finding has the same vague report. He was shot in a parking garage at an apartment complex, not the same one where Botham Jean was shot at, but none of them specify he lived there, he might it has been more than a year, he may have moved. The Guardian reported it thusly:

Here’s the Daily Beast’s coverage of the incident and provenance of the tape:

In addition Marcy Wheeler compiled all the coverage of Barr going to Italy to listen to the deposition, which Mifsud reportedly handed to the Italians when he applied for asylum.

Marcy also goes back and establishes the initial impetus for Barr’s and Durham’s trip:

So if you’re done talking down to me and acting like a gigantic asshole the underlying point Stedman is trying to make in his tweet seems perfectly valid. Instead of directly interviewing actual FBI agents or primary fact witnesses in the case, Durham is letting Barr drag him around the world to listen to random videotapes of fever swamp retcon bullshit from Mifsud, who for all intents and purposes acts exactly like a Russian asset.

Thanks for the additional sources. The original one is crap, though, and would make Breitbart look reputable. I would think it’s fair to challenge it as a source.

Absolutely. Part of the job is delegating. Is anyone honestly wowed by what Pompeo is doing at Foggy Bottom or what Barr is doing at RFK. These aren’t Lincoln’s Team of Rivals. This is Trump’s Team of Lackeys. No one challenges him. It’s not merely Trump is lacking the Professional qualifications to be potus. Yeah, I think I’d say Lincoln fits more in the category of “reformer” than “outsider”. Usually, when we talk about the body politics hunger for an “outsider”, it’s more about the desire for someone who doesn’t have any particular interest in the rules of politics. It’s the rejection of what is seen as process over results, as if the process was the issue. It’s the hunger for the “man in charge” who “just gets things done”.

Now mind you, you could say some of the same about reformers, but usually they do care deeply about process, principals and law. Because it is the law that stands between us and the worst of our own impulses.

re: #15 NO SMOCKING GUN!

This article says what I said here a couple of days ago. SCOTUS is going to make abortion illegal in much of the country, without even reversing Roe, but rather eviscerating it.

And, to be blunt about it, making abortion illegal doesn’t mean that abortion will stop. All it means is that legal abortions in states like California and New York will become harder to get and women will turn to potentially dangerous underground sources of abortion, just as happened prior to Roe v. Wade. What saved the US from a massive number of deaths in those years was the availability of antibiotics. Now that antibiotics are becoming less useful, it’s entirely possible women will die.

If you want a preview for what it will be like, just go to Brazil or Argentina, where there are medical wards filled with women who attempted abortions and it turned dangerously bad. Women don’t stop getting abortions because it’s illegal or nearly so. The financial and social pressures that push abortion are still there.

The abortion pill may alleviate some of the danger, but it is concerning that women may be taking it without medical supervision, because it doesn’t always work.

We’re in for bad times, folks.

Definitely. We could use a Lincoln right now. I’ve been teaching my five year old niece a little about the Presidents. I always tell her Abe is my favorite. She’s more partial to Washington. And I can’t argue since Washington had a lot of wisdom in first turning down an offer of king and then retiring after two terms.

Free, not every Christian takes the Bible literally. The Bible is a record of man’s attempts to reach out to God. The texts have to be studied within their historical and social milieux, not yanked out as proof texts for whatever crazy happens to strike one’s mind.

Science and the Bible are not necessarily in conflict unless you are a dogmatic Fundamentalist Biblical Literalist.

We’re in a world far removed from where the average person is intimately involved in agriculture. I think that speaks to your point about considering the times holy books were written.

That’s actually an interesting thought. So far as I know, there are no extended examinations of more modern scriptures (such as the Book of Mormon* and the Urantia Book) as products of their time. For the latter, I remember Martin Gardner wrote a skeptical takedown of the whole Urantia movement. He pointed out that the writings in the Urantia Book were not awfully revelatory but situated completely within the upper middle class milieu of the people who were the recipients of the Urantia Papers. One could probably do the same with other, more modern, channeled material and come to similar conclusions-very human documents, written within their times as an attempt to explain the essentially unexplainable.

*Yes, I am very aware that the Mormon church sees this as an ancient document. There is no evidence for same.

Washington started that long inevitable trend of cutting down all the rainforests /

They’re doing a story on CBS this morning about Lizzo. It was really good and I think almost every young kid, especially girls, should see it.

Lizzo got a music scholarship for the flute to the University of Houson. She went back, and was talking in front of the band and asked to borrow a piccolo. And all the players were waving their instruments at her in the “pick mine and I will never wash it again way.”

Science and the Bible are not necessarily in conflict unless you are a dogmatic Fundamentalist Biblical Literalist.

Reconciling science and religion is a fools errand imo.
Even smart people who have tried I think failed miserably
They are best off staying in their own worlds

- science and its quest is to understand, to believe that; by virtue of independent, repeatable and transparent proof.
- religion and its quest is to believe in; to have faith without proof.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. We’re finally experiencing fall here (well, somewhat like fall). After 90 degree record last week, we had freeze/frost warnings over the past day or so just north and west of NYC.

But that’s not what should send chills down your spine.

It’s that we’ve got whistleblower number two, and they’re not only confirming everything number one said, but everything that Trump said on video, Trump readout stated, and corroborates the fact that Trumpworld engages in quid pro quo activities to use US foreign policy for expressly going after Trump political enemies.

Trump continually lies and makes up bulkshit - claiming that the first whistleblower was making up stuff, even though it expressly corroborates what Trump himself has repeatedly stated on video.

Media outlets need to stop with the magic balance fairy both sides bulkshit. Trump is a corrupt criminal whose statements are all deflections, obfuscations, and lies about Trump’s criminal conduct. He wants to go after Biden claiming Biden did all the things Trump has actually done (and is still doing). Trump wants to smear Hunter Biden, when his own kids are enriching themselves precisely because they’re working for the administration and using the levers and power of government to direct taxpayer funds and activities at their businesses. It’s not just the golf business every fucking weekend. It’s the Scotland golf resort and USAF sorties that have to overnight at a Trump hotel despite not being the closest or cheapest stay near the airport.

It’s Pence staying at a Trump business 100s of miles from where he was supposed to meet with govt officials. It’s all the foreign countries and lobbyists knowing that the quickest route to Trump access and him doing what they want is to stay at a Trump business or to give Trumpworld benefits they would never ordinarily ever get.

It’s a criminal conspiracy all the way down, and the GOP are complicit in all of this.

The prohibition on pork isn’t specifically stated as “pork” — the kosher rules say things like
“split hoof” or “chews its cud.” For seafood, does it have scales and fins? For birds, predator and scavenger species are un-kosher. Reptiles, amphibians, worms and most insects are forbidden.

It’s not about their noise; it’s about what the animals themselves eat, because who the hell knows what they’ve got in their systems.

Let me give you an alternate explanation. He was killed by a random asshat who didn’t like that his testimony put a white female officer behind bars. You know,a slightly more violent version of the people who got another witness fired by harassing her employer - or were those people also just random drug dealers?

There’s a lot of drug related murders in this country, but not so many that your random guy with no history of involvement in the drug trade is likely to get ambushed and killed on any given day getting out of his car in front of his apartment building.

The stringent prohibition on lobster would explain some poor schmuck who ate one without cooking it alive.

Now I’m thinking, who was the first person to think, Hey, if we boil this sucker alive maybe we can eat it and not throw up!

I sometime think about the poor shlubs who discovered - with quite unfortunate results - what not to eat.

I’ve dealt with Calvinists who were in Mom’s Orthodox Presbyterian Church and they really are into the “TULIP” shit.

Calvinism can be summed up as “TULIP” with:

Total Depravity—Man is born depraved and is inherently lost.

Unconditional Election—BUT, The Big G predestined a small elite to be saved. Everyone else goes to the BBQ joint for all eternity no matter how they live their lives. Do note the inconsistency with the first point

Limited Atonement—JC sacrificed himself for those The Big G preselected. Everyone else—BBQ time…

Irresistible Grace—Once the Big G grabs you by the MEOW you can’t let go. But this point is also inconsistent with the first point

Preservation of the Saints—God preserves His people so they can never be lost. To put it simply, it means this: “Once you are saved, you are always saved.” Even after Falwell Jr paid $1.8 million to ride the “Three Way Of Love” with his pool stud, he’s still saved…but Bill Clinton is going to the BBQ pit…

I would get in arguments with Mom’s pastor. He always got pissed off that I followed Dad into Judaism. He really got pissed off the time I recited Nichiren Daimoku when he started his asinine babbling.

Moral of the story—You can’t engage in a battle of wits with brain-dead Xtians.

More like the “uphold your reputation train” for Bill Barr has not only left the station, but left the station, hit a bridge abutment, derailed, rolled down the embankment and caught fire.

But back at the station, management is still selling tickets, insisting there’s nothing at all going wrong. And hoping the passengers won’t notice or have questions about the huge yellow crane on the flatcar slowly trundling down the track….

Cooking also preserves food. Bread lasts longer as toast, dried meat, somethings are easier and softer once cooked, plus more storable. It’s the reason why the discovery of fire and cooking is just above books for tremendous discoveries.
