Trump is deporting Cuban immigrants residing in the US waiting for asylum.

Cuba doesn’t want them back:

(Wonder what the defacto Cuban Republican leaders of South Florida Al Cardenas, Jorge Mas, and the Diaz Balart brothers think about this)

… Some arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border only a few hours after the sudden change in [wet foot- dry foot] immigration policy on Jan. 12. Others have been in the United States since much earlier. The majority face possible deportation.

According to official figures, the number of Cubans with final orders of deportation has increased this year. Through Dec. 9, there were 37,218 facing final deportation orders.

Meanwhile, the number of Cuban migrants currently in detention centers now exceeds 1,600

Four thoughts on the shelling of the Special Forces Post in Northern Syria.

First, Liz Sly used the phrase ‘bracketing’.

This is the artillery name for the systematic method of bringing in artillery fire on a target. The object is to get a shell to explode on one side of the target and then another shell on the other side of the target. After that, one reduces the distance between the shells in order to directly hit the target.

The Turks were clearly threatening the deliberately shelling that post.

Second, in this day and age of highly computerized artillery fire direction friendly locations are well known. It is particularly important when there are lots of different nations all operating in a single area. NATO trains on this. And these systems were heavily used in Syria to prevent fratricide.

The identity of a long standing US Military Post had to have been completely known to the Turks.

Third, as shells get within 200-600 meters (known in the military as Danger Close. The actual distance depends upon the type of weapons being used.) of a target, people at that location get an extremely loud ‘boom’. Then they can hear debris and shrapnel flying around.

Danger Close is also a defensive tactic. It is the bringing down of friendly fire on a position in order to, hopefully, kill off or drive off attackers who are in the process of capturing that post.

Again, the Turks were sending a deliberate message. These type of games when implemented by barely literate, sleep deprived 18 year olds can easily get people killed.

Fourth, a lot of Kurdish refugees have been quoted as saying that they were heading for US positions to seek protection from the Turks. If the Turks were trying to scare off any refugees from seeking safety at the posts. It is quite possible that innocent civilian refugees may have been killed or injured in the shelling.

edit - my writing after a very long week was not as clear as I had intended. Added some dropped phrases.

Tonight’s “WTF?!” moment comes courtesy of the fellow at the hotel next door who called twice tonight, first to ask if Doordash had made a delivery over here (they did, to me) and if the driver was still there (he wasn’t).

The second call was to accuse me of stealing his food, refusing to take “I did not” as an answer, and then giving up in a huff when I told him that the meal I had was ordered from McDonald’s and was not the Denny’s meal he’d ordered.

FFS, why am I dealing with all the crazies tonight?! It’s not even a full moon!!

It becomes clearer every day that the only lesson any living Republicans took from Watergate is “if we’d just circled the elephants then, Nixon would have left office no earlier than 1977. Possibly even LATER if we’d figured a way around that stupid 22nd Amendment.”

I think that this time the “So what, we did it, what are you gonna do about it?” approach will actually work.

It was no secret around Capricorn that the Allman Brothers copied from many blues performers before them, including Elmore James and Taj Mahal.

What the Allman Brothers did differently was to blend psychedelical with blues.

There was a reason for the Allman Brothers mushroom icons.

But then heroin changed things, and not for the better.

The thing these jackholes don’t want to recognize is that the horse has already bolted from the barn. Kicking him out of the clubhouse is not going to make the problem go away, it will just leave him even more unhinged and likely to try to drag down others with him. From selectively prosecuting mobsters.

Trump was very likely involved at least to some extent with dealings with the mafia, as he was involved in construction on New York in the 80’s.

But he was never linked to any prosecutions that were brought by the SDNY and Giulliani.

There was almost certainly some things that Giulliani would have known Trump had done, that could have been prosecuted, but chose not to, both because he had larger crimes to prosecute, but also having an allegedly rich person owe you a favour is nice thing to have.

At least some of the odd behaviour tied to the SDNY FBI (e.g. leaking selective details about Clinton’s emails) are senior people in that organisation still having ties to Giulliani and Trump, and almost certainly ongoing money laundering schemes.

There needs to be a massive cleaning of every organisation tied to this massive criminal enterprise.

It was Ry Cooder playing slide guitar with Taj Mahal who inspired Duane Allman to start playing slide guitar.

I lost all respect for Gregg when he got busted for cocaine and let his tour manager take the rap for him.

BTW, the latest round of “Ukraine talking points” inadvertently publicized by WH buffoons (wrt ex-Amb. Yovanovitch’s House testimony) seem - unsurprisingly - like pretty weak sauce. Basically, just the usual reflexive dumping on Adam Schiff, mainly on procedural grounds: viz.:

“We are not concerned with any information Yovanovitch might share, because the President did nothing wrong,” the White House email meant for Republicans said. “But we are concerned that Schiff is putting her a precarious position by having her testify in secret without State Department lawyers be present.”

“It raises serious questions about why Schiff is willing to put career officials in such risky situations while bullying them with legally unfounded threats of obstruction charges,” the email continued.

It added that Schiff “is willing to ride roughshod over fair process and to use career officials to further a baseless political objective.”

Begs the question (as usual with these crooks): why would Amb. Yovanovitch need a “State Department lawyer” for her deposition anyway? And if she had wanted one, why didn’t she just ask?

A hollow voice says, Impeachmoot now!  Oct 12, 2019 • 10:04:15am

re: #187 mmmirele

I got a cut from my stylist on Tuesday. It cost $50 and I gave her a $17.50 tip, because I’m well aware of the economics of renting a chair in a salon, plus she’s worth it. I color my own hair because I cannot even begin to afford letting someone else do it.

ETA: and I live in Mesa, Arizona. It would cost significantly more 10 miles northwest in Scottsdale.

I trim my own bangs and braid the rest.

It was this stylist that encouraged me to let my hair grow out and encourage the curls that I didn’t know I had.

Trump is carrying out Putin’s order to destroy NATO and the Kompromatted Republicans are giving him a blank check to do that.

If this betrayal of the Kurds succeeds in cleaving Turkey from NATO, it’s gonna confirm a lot of our worst suspicions isn’t it.

How on Earth did that building collapse like that?

If I had to guess, they did a rush job trying to get the upper floors put in, the supports weren’t cured enough to hold the load, and everything just gave way.

re: #146 Backwoods_Sleuth

from last night:

As I have long suggested, Cheeto may be about to “acknowledge” that the original Moon landings were a liberal-orchestrated hoax and he, the Chosen One, is ready to go ahead with the real thing. This will appeal to a large part of his base, as will an executive order to halt chemtrail spraying and an acknowledgement of the capture of aliens and their spacecraft at Roswell in 1947. His failure to produce the aliens could be explained away as the result of a magical self- destruct device. The base would swallow it book, line and sinker.
