Trump should not be able to order, on his own, that a foreign national living in the United States be extradited. Wouldn’t any such order have to go through due process and our legal system? Of course, with Barr in charge of the DOJ, due process may have been another abandoned principle of this nation.

It’s weird how that article mentions Flynn spreading negative stores about Gulen and advocating for his removal, but doesn’t mention that Flynn apparently discussed a plan to illegally kidnap and rendition Gulen in exchange for $15 million from Ergogan.

On Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that retired general Michael Flynn was under investigation for allegedly taking part in discussions about a plot to kidnap and extradite a controversial Turkish cleric in exchange for $15 million. Both Flynn’s lawyer and the Turkish regime quickly denied knowledge of or involvement in any such plot, which one source told the paper might involve use of a private jet and a Turkish prison island. But word of the investigation, reportedly part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, represented just the latest humiliation for the man whose stint as national security advisor was, at 26 days, a historically short one.

Extradition is a judicial process, and if he tried it, DT would find out he can’t just boot him out. But we know he issues orders that are outside of his powers all the time. Damned if I know what Rudy was thinking. I hope they end up sharing a cell.

If true that totally destroys Sondland’s purported cover story that he never connected that the request of an investigation into Burisma was a request to investigate Hunter Biden.

So I saw goddamnfrank’s tweet about Bernie and is followers being a ridiculous cult and I have to agree. One of the smarter and most progressive guy I know is a huge Bernie supporter. I asked him his opinion about the heart attack and the campaign lying about it. He says they didn’t lie and that Bernie continued to campaign while in the hospital, showing that he was the man the country needs. I brought up the fact that Hillary was not even given an inch of decency while campaigning with pneumonia, and he scoffed a bit, stating that Hillary was Hillary.

Boggles the mind

It really is becoming a cult the same way Trump is and honesty it’s sick. Seventy eight year olds with heart attacks should not be running for Presidents. I’m glad Bernie was less shouty last night but I really would like to have someone whom health won’t be an issue and furthermore has better judgment.

re: #24 A Three Hour Tour

And if they endorse the eventual nominee. BTW how many out-of-district supporters do they have anyway? It looks like less of a big deal from a distance.

I’m ridin with Biden. But if he had a heart attack like Bernie, I would tell him to quit, find someone else to endorse that we could all get behind, and go home and recover. There’s more value to him besides being President. We need good advisors, cabinet members and such. If he can’t personally do it, find someone who can and work with them. He’s forgotten more about politics than some people have and what he knows is valuable too.
Because it’s a team endeavor. He can be Secretary of State like Hillary and Kerry or train future leaders like Obama is doing.

The Bernie stans scare me. While I’m not a supporter, they don’t seem to look at the facts about him: he’s 78, just had a heart attack, and needs down time and a chance to focus on his health. Running for President is just about the most stressful thing these days, and the stress isn’t going to lessen.

I just looked at the DNC primary calendar. During March, every week has at least 4-5 primary elections. That’s a lot of campaigning with no stop, no down time. I remember when Obama campaigned in 2008 during the Super Duper Tuesday-lots of jet hopping from state to state doing midnight rallies with the goal of staying alive and accumulating delegates. It tired him too, and Obama was fit as a fiddle. Him and both of his surviving rivals, John Edwards and Hillary Clinton, were decades younger and I bet it tired them out a lot too. Neither of them had had a heart attack either.

Jailed British tourists entered US ‘deliberately’

at least they are being consistently inhumane

After their arrest, the family was moved across the country from Washington state to Pennsylvania, to be housed in a family migration detention centre.

The Connors said they had been “traumatised”, detailing the “scariest experience of our entire lives”, in a sworn statement that was provided to BBC News by their lawyer.

The family statement is the basis for a legal complaint lodged by their lawyer with the US Department of Homeland Security inspector general.

US immigration authorities have confirmed that the couple were being held, but denied their allegations of mistreatment.

I don’t get it either. It’s only going to get more stressful. I get why people are attracted to Bernies worldview even if I don’t agree with all of it. Jailed British tourists entered US ‘deliberately’

They said the vehicle was captured on video “slowly and deliberately” driving through a ditch to enter the US.

Two adults in the vehicle had previously been denied travel authorisation to the US, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.

One couple involved claimed the group had crossed the border accidentally.

I’d be interested to know on what basis they had previously been denied travel authorization to the US.

There’s absolutely no surprise about this here. Bernie was one of her backers so it’s not at all surprising that she endorsed him here.

Who else in the field would she endorse, unless it was Warren? I’d also watch to see which, if any, candidates endorse her opponent in the primaries next year (someone is trying to primary her).

I don’t think she’s that dogmatic that she’d go home if Warren ends up crushing Biden and Bernie in the primaries. She’ll back the Democrat because she knows the biggest threat here is Trump.

This should get more play, but the basic facts have long been known. Trump essentially keeps two sets of books.

One set inflates his value to banks to secure more credit and loans.

Another minimizes his value to reduce his tax burdens.

In both cases, he’s engaging in fraud. He’s defrauding banks and he’s engaging in tax fraud with state and federal agencies.

We saw this play out when we learned how Trump would market his newly acquired golf resort in Westchester County NY. He claimed he pumped millions into sprucing the place up, but then sought a massive reduction in the property taxes, claiming that the property was decrepit.

Westchester said bulkshit, and noted the other statements Trump made about the value and property improvements, so the tax stood.

He does this over and over, and he’s been doing this for decades.

EDITED

Leaving aside the general principle that “Trumpworld” and “asshole” are pretty much synonyms, a little background would be helpful here. “Charles and Dunn” are the parents of the UK teen who was killed in a traffic accident by an American (?diplomat? Official?) intelligence officer at an RAF base in England, who then fled back to the US.

Said official happened to be in the WH, when the parents were there, and this dick O’Brien seems to have thought a sentimental photo-op would have been a good thing. Gag. RTWT.

ADD: A report on the incident from the BBC here

Weirdly, the only one who seems to have acted nicely in this whole sad affair was Trump. Go figure…

At this stage of the game, let everyone endorse who they want, as long as they all support the Democratic nominee.

I also expect her to endorse the nominee, especially if it’s Warren. And that will work out well. If AOC can go from Bernie to the nominee, then none of the other Bernie supporters will have much of an excuse.

Los Angeles DSA having it’s annual local convention here this weekend. Berniebots running the show. IMing me to come and support Bernie and once again I tell them I’m backing Warren and they get downright mean calling her a capitalist stooge and only fools will follow her.

Nice set of insults from them calling me a Putinphobe.

Of course, while the main reason for this attempted stunt was to get Trump a photo op, the ulterior motive was to undermine the case for having Sacoolas extradited to the UK by portraying the whole mess as a “reconciliation.” Telling UK authorities that, since the parents had “forgiven” her, there was no need to take the matter further.

Go figure…

worse than that.

It was the *wife* of an intelligence officer, she was driving on the wrong side of the road.

And no, it wasn’t “acting nicely” for Trump to surprise them with “she’s in the next room and wants to apologize and take responsibility.” If she really wanted to take responsibility, she’d go back to the UK and speak with the police (and probably face charges).

First is from ProPublica, which did a report on debtor’s examinations and contempt of court in a rural Kansas county. Attorney Michael Hassenplug is a thoroughly awful person with a law license, making his money off the poor.

Then we have a srmtudy by UCLA where Lis Angeles uses “community service” work to cover what would be nearly 5,000 paid jobs a year. And again, the poorest get hit hardest.

But Charles, the teenager’s mother, said the meeting ultimately went “round in circles” as Trump and his team tried to get the family to “accept the invitation to meet her [Sacoolas] on their terms which we weren’t willing to do.”

She said that any meeting would need to involve “therapists and mediators in the room and not just her and us. I wouldn’t imagine that’s even advisable for her, let alone us.”

Tim Dunn said they felt “a bit rushed” and that they “don’t think it would have gone too well” if they had gone through with the president’s plan.

Wingnuts think the defense’s case was just made, when the reality is the arrest warrant is even more damning than originally thought:

- Instead of approaching the front door and knocking, Dean decided to do a perimeter search in the dead of night as a “wellness check”

- They never identified themselves, so that Jefferson only saw two men walking around her house

- His partner is on paper swearing he did not see a gun through the window before the fatal shots were fired

They gave this woman every reason to believe she and her nephew were in danger, so arguing in court that his “defense” is she had a gun barely seen in a single body camera frame is going to be absolutely disgusting to a jury.

A move so “strategically brilliant” that the Russians are literally eating our soldiers’ lunches.

The DNC needs to make heavy use of that Russian footage next year.

Marine Iraq War veteran to be deported Tuesday to El Salvador

Combat veteran, field artillery, has lived in this country since he was 3 years old.

Fuck you, Trump base, and especially the deserters, pretenders, and slackers in the so-called Oath-Keepers.

President Obama Was Right and Justice Alito Was Wrong Nancy LeTourneau in Washington Monthly, about the Citizens United ruling.

Back in 2010, just a few months after the ruling in the Citizens United case was released, President Obama took the unprecedented step of criticizing a Supreme Court decision during his state of the union speech. By saying, “I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by…foreign entities,” he was prescient in a way that few people understood at the time.

I admit that I nearly got into a couple of crashes in the UK for mentally slipping and finding myself on the wrong side of the road, or reaching over to shift gears and rolling down the car window instead….

But if I had done so, I would have taken full responsibility for my choice to drive there.

That’s why I just took taxi’s when I was in the Bahamas. I just knew if I rented a scooter I would end up on the wrong side of the road.

re: #139 HappyWarrior

Okay. Two of my cousins have been driving in the UK for awhile now. Never hit any pedestrians and if you think Trump would be sympathetic to a British diplomat’s spouse who hit an American, you’re delusional.

I can semi-/quasi-/sort-of sympathize with the situation of driving in the UK: it happened to me once: I had borrowed friends’ car to go visit the megaliths at Avebury (fascinating place), and when leaving, reflexively turned onto the right-hand lane. Fortunately, I caught myself - and every time I have had to drive there since, I have obsessively minded the lanes/turning patterns to avoid the problem. It’s not easy to change habits (though Brits who drive on the Continent have to do it a lot), but not impossible.

But: tragedy as the Harry Dunn case is, fuck fucking Trump with a rusty fucking saw. Grieving parents come to see him in the WH over a “diplomatic” incident and he (or his idiot asshole staffers) try to gin up a photo-op? To make HIM look good? And then he makes a public statement stupidly trying to shift or obviate the blame?
Forget the saw: make it a rusty fucking scythe…

No - no - no. Let’s stop this dementia nonsense. He is repeating the storyline that his supporters believe because they are getting their information from conspiracy theorists such as Q or Faux News or …. In order to retain the cult, he has to confirm these myths, otherwise they will have nothing to hold onto. They are eagerly awaiting the OIG report that they all believe will finally expose the evil Deep State actors that are trying to undermine their brilliant leader. The fact that he can recall details of these stories shows that his memory is working just fine. He is inciting his base to violence to revolt against anyone who criticizes him and to anyone who may seek to remove him from office.

I think it’s a bit of both. “They have sand to play with” is not something any mentally stable person would say (unless referring to kids at a playground or in a classroom). I don’t think the concern is his memory as much as it is his overall mental state.
