Why is there a Sergeant-at-Arms posted if they’re not going to do anything? Have every one of those fuckers who still refuses to leave arrested and charged. If you’re going to declare almost daily that “nobody is above the law,” then make that clear by enforcing it. They’re not your buddies, guys, they’re accomplices in an effort to obstruct justice.

No shit, if I tried to bust into an SCIF facility with my cellphone out and taking selfies, they’d tackle my ass and have me hauled off in cuffs before I made it into the room. Every single one of these bastards should have their clearances revoked and their presence barred from ever entering the facility again, because they’ve made clear they cannot be trusted to safeguard our national security.

Because IOKIYAR isn’t just a media axiom at this point. It’s all but law.

Between that, the DOJ guideline, and the apparent general unwillingness of any law enforcement to ever lay a finger on a GOPer when they pull shit like this, it’s clear that the GOP is above the law, precisely because those who would enforce it see them as above the law.

Which only ensures that it will happen again…and again…and again, until they either agree that holding these despositions in the SCIF isn’t working because the GOP keeps just kicking in the door and letting themselves in or until they do enforce the law, at which time the “bad optics” will be amplified by cries of “YOU LET THIS GO ON FOR DAYS, WHAT CHANGED?!” from the press.

If I were the judge I’d have made him dance more, with just more and more shocking scenarios.

“So you’re saying Donald Trump, while President, could stab a pregnant woman to death and eat her baby in front of her, mocking her while she’s dying, and the police couldn’t arrest him or charge him with a crime? That’s your honest legal opinion?”

Just make the fuck squirm, make it clear what a shit argument he’s making, while reminding him he has an ethical duty of candor to the court and not so subtly reminding him of the Barr Association rule regarding meritorious claims and contentions.

For what it’s worth, the second impeachment referral from the House to the Senate was a judge, in 1803 for drunkenness and unlawful rulings. Judge Pickering was convicted and removed. The next impeachment was Associate Supreme Court Justice Samuel Chase in 1804 for political bias and arbitrary rulings, he was acquitted on 8 articles.

So if they end up being as bad as advertised, there may be a remedy. The question, of course, is would the Senate vote to convict and how bad would their rulings have to be in order to trigger impeachment?

Iowa and New Hampshire are stalking horses. If Biden underperforms his expectations, let’s say he finishes fourth, or even tied for third, his support may disappear in South Carolina and Nevada. It starts out kind of clumsy but he’s asked about republican participation in the hearings, and he talks about how republicans have equal representation on the committee, but they just come in to make statements about the process and then leave. It shows how hypocritical the republican stunt is, before it happened (I wonder if they knew it was coming when they set up these questions).

The problem is, Iowa and New Hampshire both have laws on the books that automatically move their events up on the calendar if someone tries to jump in front of them.

Having IA/NH and NV/SC flip each cycle would make sense. Sort of like the College Football Playoff or the Super Bowl where they rotate the events through venues each time. But, I suspect that Iowa and New Hampshire generate a decent amount of tax revenue from their primaries going first. Lots of people traveling there every three/four years that otherwise wouldn’t.

Sometimes Iowa gets it right. Sometime Iowa gets it wrong. Just like any other state would in its position.

But Iowa is always first in the nation, perennial gatekeeper for every presidential campaign.

Honestly, it’s fucked in the head to give any one state that much power.

That kind of delay shouldn’t be allowed to happen. Devin Nunes is in these hearings legitimately because he’s the ranking member of the House Intel committee.

Therefore it has to be assumed that at least one US adversary has as full a readout of the hearings as Nunes can provide.

I was wondering how we could ever find the FEMA camp space for all the Russian stooges and dupes who have been exposed. Then it hit me: Pardon non-violent marijuana offenders. This would provide more than enough space for crooks, spies, stooges, un-registered NRA agents, militia terrorists and other GOP operatives, and the follow up legalization would furnish massive new tax revenue. It’s a win/win.

I’m actually 2nd on the adoption list, if the other person doesn’t show up when they open, she’s mine. She looks like a full blooded GSD , mostly black, about 7 months old. She’s a complete spaz but very sweet. She needs training and love but that’s not an issue. Our county shelters are doing their best, but it’s so sad. I cried more than once while we were there. And then a couple more times since we got back. I hope I get to bring her home. She doesn’t have a name yet, I’m kind of scared of getting too ahead of myself(yeah, too late). I need to spend more than 5 minutes with her to figure it out. It’s been over a year since my GSD/Doberman died and I truly need a dog buddy right now, so keep a good thought for me and Miss Dog in the shelter. Sigh.

I’ve had my rescue wonder-dog for 3 years now. Named him Roswell II the Atomic Pound-Pup. Never regretted it for a minute. He loves life on the farm and has one particularly valuable skill: He can spot feral hogs before I have an inkling of their presence and can even chase them away. My guess is “probably.”

The California case where the state is requiring people running for federal office to release tax returns will probably be a loser for the state - there’s precedent on similar cases. Basically the only ballot access limits are filing fees and limits listed in the constitution.

But in the NY case involves prosecutors using the judicial power of subpoenas, which is entirely different. The States have an interest in enforcing their laws. And nobody in our system has “absolute” immunity.

Part of me wants the House Dems to say, “ok, all of this is going to be public hearings from now on, and any attempt to suppress ‘classified’ information will be seen as obstruction of Congress.”

Because I’m guessing, deep down, Republicans really don’t want these depositions to be in open sessions. That would probably go spectacularly poorly for them.

- i want the dems to stick to the plan (how it seems to me)
- get the prelim info privately. no drama, just the facts, ma’am as a dress rehearsal.
if they have to, use “we dont know whether natsec issues are gonna arise”

A lot of my fellow Tennesseans, our GOP governor and legislative super-majority particularly, make things really fucking hard.

The right’s entire culture is moving toward a violent showdown, churches, media, and politics. They base this primarily on the fatal assumptions that they have a monopoly on guns, and that small arms superiority will be decisive. Both assumptions are provable nonsense, of course, but they are profoundly embedded in right wing mythology. From the Minutemen who won the Revolution (they didn’t) to the Guns that Won the West (it was numbers, germs, and organization) to repelling the zombie like hordes who will invade suburbia “when the welfare checks stop,” the private gun myth is part of who conservatives are.
I am afraid that quite a few of them will die in shootouts with police and the military, or self defense by their targets, before they understand that this is real life, and their fantasy ideology is a bill of goods foisted on them by billionaires and the hinterland gentry.

To be exceedingly blunt, events like this would be most useful for reducing their numbers.
